Political Economy, Psychology and Propaganda w/ Peter Beattie

Peter Beattie is an Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong who focuses on Political Psychology and Global Political Economy. He is also one-half of the wonderful program BettBeat Media which can be found on YouTube and Substack, with Karim Bettache.

In this episode, me and Peter discuss what the studies of Political Psychology and Political Economy mean, how they help us to understand current global affairs and events, how propaganda and media misinformation dilute many peoples ability to comprehend the current situation we are in, and how understanding these things helps us to struggle for a better tomorrow.

What the fuck is going on?! An Explanation (Part I of III)

In this episode, I discussed how Capitalism came into being, broadly, and how this process and its contradictions have led us to where we are today. I speak generally about how Feudalism was thrown into the dustbin of history through the collective action of the poor in alliance with the newly forming Capitalist class, and how this class of exploiters took advantage of the people's will to seize power for themselves.

We discuss the movement towards Capitalism, the transition from "Free Market Capitalism" to Imperialism, how Imperialism, monopolies, and crises are a part of Capitalism's natural development, and how this intrinsic logic led us to today.

In the next episode I intend to go deeper into the last 80-100 years to show how history doesn't exactly "repeat itself" but rather, comes in echoes.

In this episode I speak on the feeling of defeatism/doomerism, fear, and worry, and how to deal with these feelings. I also speak about the need to redouble our efforts against Colonialism and Imperialism worldwide and to view the current situation as a whole, not as individual or isolated parts. We discuss the victories of the Axis of Resistance, BRICS, and other forces opposing US/NATO imperialism globally, and how these victories are inherently victories for all of humankind!

A bit repetitious, but I wanted to put more of my thoughts into an episode and ask directly for responses questions and answers, we also must lift up in this moment Mumia Abu Jamal who is ailing from his imposed sicknesses cause by incarceration and attacks by the state; Leonard Peltier, who’s vision is quickly degenerating due to abuses in concentration camps, and who just lost his sister (who’s daughter needs help with funding!) and will not be able to say goodbye; Kamau Sadiki turns 71 today and still sits rotting in concentration under oppressive and cruel restrictions of food, water, and movement. These and others like Joy Powell are our heroes, our freedom fighters- we must struggle to see them free, safe, and taken care of

Determination in the Face of Struggle - Learning from the Palestinians, Congolese, and others!

It was hard to come up with the title for this episode because I spoke about a lot of different things. Brief synopsis though would be that we start with some discussion of the apathy, and in action of many of us, including myself, and transition to discussing why we especially in imperialist nations have come to be so willing and able to normalize suffering, while others around the world, have no options, but to either fight, flee, or die. So, let us learn from those around the world who have shown us what it means to be human, by fighting for humanity.

Colonial Connections: the Attack on Children

In this episode I added a bit of an additional layer to our discussion of Colonialism and Genocide. Historically, children have along with folks who are disabled, and Elderly folks, been disproportionately affected by war and especially by genocide, displacement, starvation, lack of medical care, hospitals, schools, jobs, etc. They are forced to leave their homes, their lives, their families, often coming or going to this or that imperialist nation, forced to give their intellect, labor, and tax dollars to a nation that helped destroy theirs. This cannot continue!

“Organizing” - Get out there and do it!

No matter what little time, skills, capacity, capabilities, or experience, you feel you may, or may not have - it’s all helpful in the struggle. Many of us feel bad because we can’t give our all, or can’t do all of the things that others can do, that we shouldn’t organize. We also believe that until we get things sorted out in our individual, that there’s no way we could help in a collective. But this is where we are wrong! In fact, many of us can do almost nothing alone, even for ourselves. We require collectives and other people to accomplish anything, including revolution. No matter what you have to give, any organization would be lucky to have you. Each and everyone of you! So, go out there and join one, if you can’t find one you like, form your own! The time is now. None left to waste.

Colonial Connections Part Three: Fascism, Neocolonialism and Reform

This episode is a continuation of the colonial connection series, where we speak more in depth about the origins and functions of fascism, as it relates to both Zionism today, the occupation of Palestine, and colonialism throughout history. We also talk about how reform is intrinsic to new developments of fascism that do not look exactly like what came about in Europe throughout the 1920s and 30s - today Fascism is of its own forms, which have learned lessons from the past, right beside the ruling class, and our oppressors, who work hand-in-hand (though not always in “unison) to oppress the people and make off with their riches. Colonial Connections: An Intro to the Relations of Colonialism, Capitalism, Fascism and Zionism

If the title wasn’t long enough, wait till you hear how much information I packed into this one episode! This is my best attempt to try to put onto the table, all of the different historical connections and points of origin between colonial and imperial powers from Britain to the United States to Nazi Germany and to the state of Israel. Through discussing the means by which colonialism came to be, Europe, founded itself and created an institution of white supremacy, and how capitalism/imperialism was able to time and time again, assert its domination over the world through occupation, genocide, slavery, wage labor, resources, extraction, and political domination. This is only part of an ongoing discussion. I hope to have with others, and to expand upon myself. All power to the Palestinian people, long live liberation, and revolution!

I gave a brief introduction to start us out about Black August, and go into a discussion of my own failures criticisms of myself, criticisms of this notion of so-called movements, in the form of a question. The Right of Humanity to Struggle and Life

In this episode, I again engaged the idea that revolution and resistance are the most natural characteristics of any living organism, and any human being, who faces oppression and exploitation. If we do not struggle to build a world based on the needs of the masses of people who are illiterate, who go hungry, who are homeless and who are made to suffer and die, we too will die along with them and our Earth.
