Is “Forehand in the Middle” Always Right? | in the riff – let’s prevent those injuries in 2022 | Pickleball Therapy with WeArePickleball | Episode 70
“The was my forehand.” How many times do we hear that on the pickleball court? Is Forehand in the Middle really a thing? Well … it depends. And it certainly does not overcome some other principles (not all the time), such as Respect the “X.” What is important to continue to better understand the game so that you can determine what makes sense when. It is what we call the Strategic Pillar at WeArePickleball. In this week’s podcast, we explore forehand in the middle and suggest when it might apply – and when not. In the riff we discuss injuries and what you can do to minimize them by sharing my current injury story with you.You can find out more about our WeArePickleball immersive pickleball camps at https://wearepickleball.com/camps/  Get the same visual training that CJ and I use to improve our vision, our game, and our lives (better night driving included). Learn the pros’ strategy when they play pickleball | PLUS Injury prevention – make it a regular part of your life | Pickleball Therapy with WeArePickleball | Episode 67
There is some suggestion that pickleball is becoming a hard game. The pros are hitting harder, attacking more often. But is that really the case? In this week’s podcast we explain why the soft game is ALWAYS the right answer to the game. It is the approach to the game used by the pros when the stakes are highest. Yet it is a strategy that any player can use, regardless of background, size, age, etc. Adopting the soft game can radically alter your game. In the riff we discuss minimizing injuries – on and off the court – in 2022. You win when you lose (seriously) | PLUS What it means to compete on the pickleball court | Pickleball Therapy with WeArePickleball | Episode 59
When we think of winning as getting to 11 first and losing as when our opponents get to 11 before we do, we rob ourselves of the benefits that can come from score losing a game. The only way we grow as pickleball players is when we are pushed to do so - this often means losing in terms of the score in a game or match. Take advantage of these growth opportunities by focusing on what you can do to improve as opposed to just the L that you get after that "loss." In the riff, we get into what it means to compete. What is the right bar for you to set for yourself when you are out on the pickleball courts. Take Advantage of Opportunities | PLUS how will rally scoring impact your game | Pickleball Therapy with VIPickleball | Episode 53
Pickleball is a game of error reduction. True. But to improve you also have to learn how to take advantage of opportunities that arise. In this episode we explain what we mean and get you to think about the game a bit differently (at least that is the objective). Rally scoring is coming to pickleball. At least that is what the tea leaves are saying. Am I excited about rally scoring coming into the game? No. But will it prevent me from playing? Also no. Stay tuned to the riff to hear more on this. Are you working on the Second Pillar (what is the Second Pillar anyways??) | PLUS Ready Position is more than the paddle | Pickleball Therapy with VIPickleball | Episode 46
To play your best pickleball you need to "see" the game. This is where the Second Pillar comes in. It is not just how to hit the ball. It is what shot to hit when. The when and the why if you will. If you do not have this understanding of the game, that you can apply in real time, then what will your results on the court look like? Your paddle is our in front. But are you ready? The 2 Things You Need to Play Optimal Pickleball | Pickleball Therapy with VIPickleball | Episode 40
If you are looking to play optimal pickleball, you need two things: (1) the ability to hit the shot you are trying to hit (third shot, serve, punch volley, etc) and (b) the knowledge of what shot to hit given the context of the rally (what are you trying to accomplish at that stage of the rally?). In the podcast we explore these two facets of the game and give you some tips for improving in both. Sign up for THE Pickleball Summit 2021 here: https://the-pickleball-summit-2021.heysummit.com. Are your third shots beating you? | Pickleball Therapy with In2Pickle | Episode 24
Trying to copy the pros can be "dangerous" to our game. There are things that pros do that maybe we are not ready for ... yet. But there are definitely things that the pros do that we should emulate regardless of our level. One of those is the third shot. The higher the level of player (and, by turn, the higher the level of the player's opponent), the higher their third shot apexes over the net. Seems counter-intuitive but it makes perfect sense once you reflect on it. The pros know there is one opponent they cannot beat no matter what. In the podcast we tell you what that opponent is. What is the No. 2 Error in Pickleball? | Pickleball Therapy with In2Pickle | Episode 13
Pickleball is a strategic game. You can play it simple if you want. Nothing wrong with that. Get some exercise and social time. BUT ... What if you want more? Pickleball offers more. You can think of the game as you would a chess match. Hit the ball to the left. Move to cover. Then switch it to the middle. Back to the left. You induce the pop up and hit it in the open hole for a winner. Thinking strategically about pickleball will also show you if you are leaving your queen exposed to attack. This would be a serious error in chess. The No. 2 error in pickleball is similar in its gravity. I also share with you some tips on using the offhand. It is what I am adding to my game. If you like the podcast, please share it with your friends. If you like it, they probably will too. Be well Tony

Information overload (BEWARE) - plus avoid tennis elbow (and wrist pain) | Pickleball Therapy with In2Pickle | Episode 8
Are you a student of the game? If yes, you may be studying too much. It is really hard (if at all possible) to incorporate 7 new things into your game at once. Much easier if you incorporate 2 new things. Then 2 and 2 more and lastly 1. Nothing worse than some elbow or wrist pain keeping you off the courts. And it may be avoidable. We share some ideas. If you like the podcast, please share it with your friends. If you like it, they probably will too. Be well Tony

If you want to improve as a pickleball player, you need to understand – and then embrace – process pickleball. In this Episode we illustrate this concept and tell you what a "bad" winner looks like. Let us know what you think about the podcast and rate and review us on your platform.

Improvement requires work - some suggestions for you | Pickleball Therapy with In2Pickle | Episode 5

We can learn a lot from No. 23, including putting in the work. In this podcast we talk about the drudgery required to improve and also about some specific steps you can take to elevate your game - if that is your thing. Our riff this week is about paddle swing weight and how understanding it can help you make better decisions about the paddle you play with. Keep working Tony
