Tuesday Tones_Ft. Rishita Harish - The Power of unity in diversity

We very often hear of Unity in Diversity. While in school we would have speeches that included this phrase every now and then. But do we know or actually appreciate the nuances of this term. India is diverse in every aspect - religion, culture, language, customs, traditions, way of dressing - and because of this it is so important that we remain united inspite of all the diverseness across the length and the breadth of the country. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas aims at trying to link the citizens of the country and build in them a pride for the differences and a resulting appreciation. To let us stop fearing and doubting each other and move ahead hand in hand - standing united. Rishita Harish- Grade 8 student of Al Saad Indian School , Al Ain talks about the importance of the day

Phenomenal Women by Maya Angelou was written and published in 1978 in a collection of poems called Still I Rise - a collection of poems that naturally sought to empower women and inspire them to come out of societal and self imposed oppression. Phenomenal Women are out there. She can be her, you and me. Amishee Gupta of Grade 9 of Bhavans Al Saad Indian School, Al Ain renders an inspiring narrative of phenomenal women.

Saturday Soiree_Ft. Malavika - Poems of romantic era

Saturday Soiree_Ft. Malavika - Poems of romantic era

Romantic poetry is the poetry of the Romantic era, an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that originated in Europe towards the end of the 18th century. It involved a reaction against prevailing Enlightenment ideas of the 18th century, and lasted approximately from 1800 to 1850. In early-19th-century England, the poet William Wordsworth defined his and Samuel Taylor Coleridge's innovative poetry in his Preface to Lyrical Ballads (1798):

"I have said before that poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin in emotion recollected in tranquility.”
Wordsworth and his English contemporaries, such as Coleridge, John Keats, Percy Shelley, and William Blake, wrote poetry that was meant to boil up from serious, contemplative reflection, over the interaction of humans with their environment. Although many stress the notion of spontaneity in Romantic poetry, the movement was still greatly concerned with the difficulty of composition and of translating these emotions into poetic form. Such an attitude reflects what might be called the dominant theme of English Romantic poetry: the filtering of natural emotion through the human mind in order to create meaning.
We present Kublah Khan rendered by Malavika of Grade 12 of Bhavans Al Saad Indian School, Al Ain a poem by Coleridge ... from the romantic era.

Saturday Soiree_Ft. Fathima Narmin

There are so many stories that centre around spiders and everytime I hear of spiders the story that comes to my mind is Charlotte’s Web by E B White written almost 68 years ago. It is a magnificent classic that is the story of a little girl named Fern who lived on a farm, who loved a pig named Wilbur and Wilbur’s friend Charlotte - a beautiful large grey spider who lived with Wilbur in the barn. Charlotte saves Wilbur’s life. The is a beautiful story of magic of childhood on a farm, miracles of changing seasons , life and death and just the glory of every day life and everything about it. In stark contrast we listen to the poem the spider and the fly by Mary Howitt published in 1829. The narrative is about a cunning spider who entraps a little fly into its web by seduction and manipulation and use of flattery. Fathima Narmin if Grade 8 - Al Saad Indian School, Al Ain, renders this dark poem with enchanting voice overs by both the spider and the fly. Listen ....
