55. As a Parent to Donor Conceived Kids, This Is Why It Is Vital You Tell Them Early and Often
I’ve been seeing in Facebook groups recently comments about how people who are choosing to use donor eggs, donor sperm, or donor embryo don’t want to tell their kids they are donor conceived.
To be very clear - I 1000% believe that not telling your children or future children they are donor conceived is not an option and if you feel that way then donor conception is not for you.
What I do talk about on today's episode is that a lot of these feelings come from fear and shame and when we work through those feelings, it makes all the difference.
Join me as we talk about these hard feelings, how you can navigate them and work through them so, if you decide donor is the right path for you, you will be excited and confident talking about your child(s) conception story.

54. Surrogacy Simplified with Jessie Jaskulsky
March is Surrogacy Awareness Month and what better way to kick off the month is this episode all about surrogacy!
Today I'm joined by surrogacy expert and mom via surrogacy, Jessie Jaskulsky. Jessie experienced the devastating loss of her son at 22 weeks pregnant which led to secondary infertility and learning about her inability to carry a pregnancy to term. She chose surrogacy as the route to build her family and with the help of two beautiful surrogates she now has her two daughters. Jessie now owns Surrogacy Simplified where she helps her clients navigate all the different elements of surrogacy and helps relieve some of the stress that comes with this path to parenthood.
Jessie and I dive into all things infertility, surrogacy, what to consider when thinking about this path, and talk about resources available for you.

53. Everyone With Feelings About the Alabama Supreme Court Ruling Needs To Hear This
It's been all over the news and spreading through the infertility community online. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos have the same rights as children.
In the episode today, I'm getting pretty raw and personal about my feelings on this topic. I am sharing my frustrations and speaking out about my opinions and what I think.
I'm also sharing what we can do about this. It can feel like nothing but the reality is there is a lot you and I can do to make a change and difference.
This is a raw and real episode but one I think is incredibly important to share.

52. 4 Things to Consider When Switching Fertility Clinics
Today I'm sharing 4 things you should consider or keep in mind when you are thinking about or planning to switch fertility clinics.
There are a lot of reasons to switch: maybe it's not feeling quite right, maybe you want a second opinion, maybe you are moving and need to find a new provider. Regardless, keep these 4 tips in mind.
Remember: I'm not a doctor or a medical professional, these are my own opinions and thoughts. For any medical advice please talk to your personal provider.

51. 9 Things To Say When Friends and Family Ask How They Can Help You
How many times has someone said "let me know how I can help!" and you've been left thinking..."thanks but I have NO idea how you can help".
Today on the show I'm giving you 9 responses you can say when people ask how they can help you or how they can support you while you are trying to build your family. Some of these ideas may resonate with you. Some may not.
What I want you to walk away with is this - ASK for the help you need. Your loved ones who you’ve confided in WANT to help you - otherwise they woudln’t have asked. It’s a win-win - you get what will help you and they feel good about contributing and making you feel better.

50. Why I'll Never Wonder Why It's Important To Know Who Your Donor Is
I didn’t realize until recently how important knowing where you came from was. I’m not donor conceived. I have had the privilege to grow up and be around my family. I had heard from donor conceived people how important that was or how jarring of an experience it was to not be around people genetically connected to them but I had never really connected the dots. I’ll never know what it really feels like because that is not my experience. However, I did have an experience in my recent past that I think gave me some insight into what this could be like for my girls.
On the episode today I'm sharing with you the experience I had and how it has shaped my view of having contact with or being able to help your children or future children contact their donor.

49. Turn Your Pain Into Healing Through Infertility Advocacy
Today we're exploring the power of advocacy within the infertility community. In the politically charged U.S., I won't dive into politics, but let's discuss supporting bills and laws for positive change. After overcoming my fears, participating in Resolve's Advocacy Day in May 2023 empowered me, showcasing that anyone can make a difference with zero experience.
Infertility often strips us of control, leaving us feeling powerless. Engaging in advocacy not only helps regain control but also contributes to increased happiness and wellbeing. Even if you're not comfortable sharing your story publicly, you can discreetly support bills that matter to you through Resolve Advocacy.

48. Four Things To Do When You Are Feeling Left Out
This week we are diving into a topic we can all relate to - feeling left out. I share some personal stories of feeling left out and how those feelings get exacerbated while we are struggling to build our families.
I also share with you why we say “my feelings are hurt” and what is actually happening in our brains when we are left out of events, groups, or life events - like everyone around us having babies and we are not. At the end, I will give you 4 easy strategies you can use to help you navigate these feelings that you can implement right away.

Today, we're diving into a topic many of you have messaged me about—secondary infertility and the decision to pursue donor conception for a second child. It's a journey filled with complexities and considerations.
In this episode, we explore key questions: How does bonding differ with a donor-conceived child? Will your second pregnancy be different? How to talk to your biological child about their half-sibling? Plus, we touch on potential family and social perceptions. It's a quick but insightful guide for those at the crossroads of secondary infertility and donor conception.

45. The Best Thing I've Done For Myself and How It's A Game Changer for You Too
It’s been a while since I published a podcast and today I’m revealing to you why! In May 2023, I realized that I was heading down a path of severe burnout. Life was a lot and I needed to make a hard decision - to step aside from some of the things I loved to find space to rest, relax and heal.
It is hard to recognize burnout in ourselves or to admit that we need a break. Especially from fertility treatments. But taking the opportunity to slow down, say no more than yes, and to reclaim who you are and what your goals are can be a game changer.

43. 5 Ways to Improve Egg Quality with Claire Innes
Today we dive into the fascinating world of egg quality as it relates to your fertility and you’ll walk away with five things you can start doing today to improve your egg quality.
Our egg counts are going down by the month, even from the moment we are born. For some of us we have more eggs than we could ever imagine needing or using. For others, like myself, we don’t have enough eggs and the ones we have are crap. We also never learn about our eggs, how to protect them and help their quality and what we can do to support our own egg quality.
Enter today’s episode. We are talking about why egg quality is important, and what we can do to support the eggs we have.
My guest today is Claire Innes. Claire is a fertility coach who helps burned out action takers conceive and carry heathy babies using the things they can control - food, hormones, lifestyle. I love Claire’s approach - she is no nonsense yet kind and loving in a way that will make you want to take action.

42. Genetic Grief with Sara Reece
Today on the show we are talking about genetic grief as it relates to egg donation. At the core of who we are, when we are not able to conceive a child using our own DNA or our partner’s DNA there is a deep sense of loss. One that can only be described as grief. But it can be so hard to manage when going through infertility because a lot of time that grief is not validated by those around us because they don’t understand it. Society understands what it is like to grieve the loss of a loved one but the idea of genetic grief is one that is not as mainstream and a lot harder to understand…until you are in it.
Sarah Reece joins me on this episode to share her experience with genetic grief and to guide us through the concept of genetic grief: what is it, how do we cope with it and why it is so important to befriend your grief to move through it.

41. What You Think Self Advocacy Is vs. What it Actually Is with Lucy Lines
So often we think that self advocacy is finding a different doctor or speaking up when we have questions and those are true but there is SO much more to being able to advocate for yourself during your infertility journey.
On today’s episode I’m joined by Lucy Lines, a clinically experienced embryologist and award winning IVF coach. Through her 17 years working in the fertility industry and her passion for helping people through IVF, Lucy has seen it all when it comes to labs, embryo grading, IVF protocols, you name it.
She shares with us the importance of having an independent review of your personal results, shares how to find the information specific to your story and journey (hint…not everything is for everyone!), and talks about what it really looks like to advocate for yourself as you navigate becoming a parent.
Lucy is someone I wish I had in my corner during my journey to becoming a parent and I’m thrilled to share her with you today.
About Lucy:
As a fully trained and clinically experienced embryologist Lucy has had the good fortune to travel the world practicing her craft in IVF labs in Australia, Sweden, Ireland and the UK.
Over her first 17 years in the fertility ‘industry’ she became increasingly frustrated over the ‘business’ aspect that was creeping in to the large IVF companies and the huge gaps that was creating for patients accessing those services.
After a redundancy at 37 weeks pregnant, (and at 44 years of age) Lucy saw an opportunity to fill those gaps - with education, care, support, guidance and space for women and couples experiencing difficulties with their fertility - totally independent of the big businesses!
She now offer my services as an independent embryologist through Two Lines Fertility - with her signature program ‘IVFWTF’, her website and blog, e-courses and, of course, 1:1 support. She now helps women and couples to feel empowered, and more importantly EDUCATED and in control of their fertility, whether they are right at the beginning of considering growing their families, in the depths of IVF treatment, or anywhere in between.

The truth is there are ways for you to regain some of that control to help you navigate your path to becoming a parent in the best way for you.
On the episode today, I’m joined by Laura Watson. Laura is a fertility coach and fellow donor egg mama who supports women who are suffering for infertility. [Encore] 14. Hayley's Story: From Donor Conceived to Recipient Parent
Hayley is an amazing human who is not only donor conceived but is also a mom to donor conceived twins. In today's episode, Hayley and I talk about her story of learning she was donor conceived, how her own experiences have shaped the way her and her wife approach parenting their children, and our shared thoughts on how, as recipient parents, we have to do our own work in navigating our feelings around using a donor.
This episode is packed with personal stories, shared experiences, lots of great tips and tricks and a little fun along the way.
About Hayley Darknell-King
Hayley Darknell-King (she/her) currently lives in the UK with her wife. They've been together for over 12 years and have two beautiful children via donor sperm IVF. Her wife carried and they used her wife's eggs. In a twist of fate, Hayley is also a donor conceived person. Her parents used an anonymous (sperm) donor to have her as part of pioneering IVF treatment in the 1980s, however she didn’t find this out until much later in life. In 2019 she DNA tested herself and has located her biological father and 3 other donor siblings. It’s been something of a journey!
She recently started speaking openly about her story and taking part in some educational and advocacy work around donor conception. Her hope is to raise awareness and help others on their parenting journeys.
You can find Hayley on Instagram @dcp_journey_2_rp where she has been documenting her journey and connecting with others in the donor conception community.

Holy smokes! We've published 37 episodes and wow am I proud. When I first started this podcast I was worried I wouldn't have enough content to get through 5 episodes and here we are! Summer is here which means I'm taking a break from the podcast for the next few months. Don't worry though! I already have 5 episodes ready to drop in the fall to kick of Season 2 of Infertility Crossroads.
In the meantime, go back and listen to some of your favorites. Or maybe there are episodes on topics that felt too hard to listen to when they first came out but you are in a different place now and ready to hear them.
And, I'll still be available on Instagram or my website for the summer so I'm not going to far.
Lastly...if you have an idea for an episode, email me at hello@metagetman.com and let me know! Any feedback you have is greatly appreciated.
Happy Summer!

This episode is all about the friends and family who are supporting you on your fertility journey. It’s one I created for you to SHARE with others.
Infertility is incredibly hard, isolating, and lonely. Most people who have never been through it don’t understand. So the burden to educate falls on us, those who are struggling.
On the episode today I’m sharing five tips for our friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, anyone in your life who is walking along side you on this journey but hasn’t been through it themselves. I’m telling them the things you wish you could say but don’t know how.
Listen to the episode, then share it with anyone you want to so they can be better and more supportive for you.

36. Lindsay's Story: Being Donor Conceived and an Advocate for Donor Conceived People
In this episode, I’m chatting with Lindsay Blount. Lindsay learned that she was donor conceived as an adult. Through this information, Lindsay has been learning what it means for her, her children and her family. Through her experience, Lindsay has become an advocate for the rights of donor conceived people and has worked hard to help educate recipient parents about the donor conceived experience (through her lens).
Lindsay is one of those people who offers her viewpoints and life stories in a way that makes it easier for you to comprehend her perspective and story. She is approachable, straight forward and is a donor conceived person who I’ve learned a lot from.
While Lindsay shares her own, personal perspective and does not speak for all DCP, she shares a lot about her own story, sharing with your child that they are DCP, discusses terminology that she uses and uses with her own children, talks about the rights of DCP and how when we are centered and focused on the DCP experience we all win.
Covered in this episode:
- The importance of sharing with your children that they are donor conceived
- How Lindsay learned she was donor conceived and how that has impacted her life and the life of her family.
- Her relationship with her siblings
- Terms to describe the donor / biological parent
- Rights of donor conceived people and why they are important
- Focusing on what is best for your child is how we are all on the same team
Lindsay shares a mix of personal and donor conceived content on her Instagram page. In addition, she has two really great posts on her page to check out:

This is a bit of a woo woo episode but one that I think you will really enjoy if you listen with an open mind, an open heart, and a spirit of curiosity. I find everything Elaine mentions fascinating!
Covered in this episode:
- The evolution of fertility work
- What is the root of stress and anxiety?

34. Once I Realized This...Everything Changed For Me
Infertility is full of mixed feelings and emotions. What I like to call the both / and. It’s hard AND it’s beautiful. It’s painful AND it’s fun. It’s broken AND amazing things happen.
When we can start getting ourselves into a place of feeling gratitude AND pain and get comfortable in the uncomfortable space of both/and amazing things start to happen.
And once I realized this on my own infertility journey, I started to develop skills that I would take with me through the rest of my life.
In the episode today I'm sharing what I've learned about existing in the both / and - the good and the bad. I'm sharing some ways you can start learning how to feel uncomfortable in the conflicting feelings and how you can hone these skills now and into the future.

32. 6 Things I Learned About Infertility Advocacy
Advocacy Day is an annual event that takes place in Minnesota, other states across the US and at the federal level. The effort is led by RESOLVE, The National Infertility Association in the United States.
This is an event and opportunity for people to gather at the state capital to advocate for families who are suffering from infertility, have limited to no access to infertility care, and to support equity for all to access the medical care they need when diagnosed with infertility.
It was so great that I've put together this podcast episode to share my experience with you and encourage you to join us next year. Whether you are in Minnesota, are in another state that has an advocacy day or you join the federal advocacy day (it's virtual so you don't have to travel to Washington D.C. to participate!).

31. Thinking About Plan B Doesn't Jinx Plan A with Naomi Woolfson
Do you ever feel like if you think about what would come next if THIS cycle fails you are jinxing yourself? Have you looked back on a failed cycle and thought “if only I believed that cycle would work” that it would have? I’m going to raise my hand and say I’ve totally felt that way.
Today on the show, I’m joined again by my friend and colleague Naomi Woolfson from Embrace Fertility. Today we are trying something new by just having a deeper conversation on the topic: thinking we are jinxing ourselves or our cycles when we open the doors to what might come next if this cycle fails.
In addition we open up about what happens when we feel like we are running out of options or are feeling like “it’s either this time or we are done” and how to navigate that.
We laugh, we get serious, we cuss, we open up about our own personal stories and struggles. This is a can’t miss episode!

On the podcast today, I’m joined by Kristin Dillensynder, a certified mindset coach who helps high achieving women thrive while on the rollercoaster of infertility.
Kristin breaks down why your mindset matters, helps you redefine failure into thoughts that can help propel you forward all while navigating the ups and downs and the failures that come with an infertility journey.

29. I Got It Wrong. You Don't Have To Jump When There Are Stairs
You don’t have to jump when there are stairs.
It sounds so simple yet so often we are standing on the edge of a cliff and we think and believe our only option is to jump.
I made the mistake of jumping off the cliff of my fertility journey. But you don’t have to. Join me in this short episode where I share my cliff, share what I think the stairs look like and challenge you to find your own set of stairs.
This episode was inspired by the episode I did with my brother, Kenny Anderson. 28. I'm a Non-Genetic Uncle: What It's Really Like with My Brother, Kenny Anderson.

28. I'm a Non-Genetic Uncle: What It's Really Like with My Brother, Kenny Anderson
When we were considering using donor eggs to build our family, one of the things that crossed my mind was how my kids, who wouldn't be genetically connected to me, would fit in our family. This may have crossed your mind too. Will they be accepting of our choice? Will they treat my child the same way they treat their family members who are genetically connected?
These are common concerns that many couples face, and that's why I invited my brother, Kenny Anderson, to share his experience as a non-genetic uncle to his donor-conceived nieces (my girls!) on my latest podcast episode.
This episode is the first time Kenny and I have talked about this topic together so you get the raw, real and vulnerable conversation as it is taking place. And, walking away from this conversation I found that for him, being an uncle to my girls is an amazing gift, one that is not defined by the genetics that created them. It is defined by the relationship he has built with them as people.

26. Rewriting Egg Donation and Egg Freezing with Lauren Makler from CoFertility
In today's podcast episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Lauren Makler from Cofertility. As someone who has personally experienced a unique road to her fertility, Lauren understands the emotional rollercoaster that we can go through to build our family. That's why she's on a mission to revolutionize the egg donor and egg freezing process.
During our chat, Lauren shares her own medical journey to having her daughter and how that experience, combined with her passion for healthcare start-ups, led her to co-found Cofertility, a platform that connects families with high-quality egg donors. But what sets Cofertility apart is that while helping families who need egg donors find diverse and high quality donors, they are also educating and supporting women in preserving their fertility through egg freezing. They take a personalized approach, provide education to intended parents and egg donors and are advocates for making the egg freezing and egg donation process simple, easy, and accessible.
Lauren's story is inspiring, and Cofertility's approach is truly revolutionary.
About Lauren Makler
Lauren Makler is the Co-founder and CEO of Cofertility. She previously founded Uber Health, a product that enables healthcare organizations to leverage Uber’s massive driver network in improving healthcare outcomes through patient transportation and healthcare delivery. Lauren’s winding road of a fertility journey led her to believe that everyone should have the opportunity to freeze their eggs –and that there should be better access to egg donors. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their miracle baby girl.

25. My Doctor Said "Donor", Now What?
I didn't grow up dreaming of using a donor to have my children.
After our second failed IVF cycle, my doctor brought up the idea of using a donor and I was a hard no. I would NEVER use someone else’s genetics to create a child.
My whole world came crashing down when the doctor told me donor might be my only chance at being a parent and experiencing pregnancy. On the episode today, I am diving deep into the beginning of my story and sharing with you three things I wish I had known and had access to right after that conversation with my doctor.

21. My Best Advice for Navigating Fertility Unknows
Did you know that your brain is wired to fill in the gaps when you don't know things? Did you also know that the fear of the unknown is known as the biggest fear of all?
Infertility is full of unknowns. Things we don't know. Things we can't control. And because our brains want to fill in the gaps we are wired to worry and spiral and try to fill in what is missing.
On today's episode I talk about this and share with you my best advice for navigating the unknowns and what you can do to make it easier.

20. Are Toxins the Reason Why I'm Not Getting Pregnant?
I have a confession...sometimes I wonder if my exposure to toxins in my environment impacted my ability to get pregnant using my own eggs. I will never know the answer to that question but it is something I've become more aware of over the last 10 years.
We hear it all the time...contaminates in the air, water, food, skin care, make-up, etc are causing issues in our bodies. It can get overwhelming. And it can be hard to know what is real vs what is data being twisted to scare us into doing something or trying some new product.
But I do think there is enough data now to show that certain chemicals can be harmful to our health both short and long term. And I do think that being mindful of what we put in and on our bodies along with the environments we are in can make a difference when it comes to our reproductive health.
Today's episode is about those different toxins, my own experience, and some suggestions you can try if you are interested in reducing your exposure to environmental toxins.

19. 5 Reasons why IVF With Your Own Eggs Isn't Working
Failed IVF cycle after failed IVF cycle is the absolute worst for so many reasons. For me, it was because I thought IVF with my own eggs was going to work, no questions asked. The reality is that IVF doesn't always work and in fact, only works about 45% of the time for people under the age of 35.
On the podcast today I'm talking about 5 reasons why your IVF cycles with your own gametes (egg and/or sperm) and what these reasons mean to you and your infertility journey.

Do you feel like your partner shuts down as soon as you try to talk about your struggles with infertility? Or maybe you are the one feeling like you just can't talk to your partner about your struggles because it's too hard.
Friend, you are not alone.
Infertility can cause a huge wedge between you and your partner. The good news is that it doesn't have to stay that way. In fact, going through the challenges and struggles of having a baby can actually bring you closer together.

17. Why You Are Struggling to Make a Decision
Making decisions can be difficult and can often leave us feeling overwhelmed. The advice out there is to take your problem and break it into smaller parts. Then take time to consider the different options. Sometimes people recommend pros and cons lists, checking in with yourself, getting advice from others who have gone through a similar experience. All this is great advice but there is something you have to do first. Because if you don't do this one thing first...all the lists, checking in, etc will get you no where.
On the podcast today we are talking about why you are struggling with making a decision and what steps you can take to start feeling confident in the decisions you are making.

16. Should I Use an Anonymous, Known or Open ID Egg Donor?
Choosing to use an egg donor is a big decision. Once you've made that one though...another big decision comes and it is around what kind of donor to choose.
I hear it all the time from my clients and from people I connect with on Instagram. I also felt the exact same way: all the options are overwhelming and it is hard to know what the best choice is.
As future parents we are constantly thinking about what is best for our future children.
Weighing their needs vs. our needs and our ability to access the best possible solution.
On today's episode, I'm diving deeper into the types of egg donor you can choose from, the pros and cons of each option, and the things you need to know going forward regardless of what option you choose.

15. 10 Tips to Help You Move Forward When you Feel Stuck
I recently did a poll on my instagram and I wanted to share the results with you. I've personally been feeling tired. Burnt out. And I asked if others were feeling the same thing. I got an overwhelming response of YES! You are feeling burnt out just like me.
It got me thinking...when we are feeling tired, burned out, or are forced to take a pause on our fertility journey it can feel so frustrating. It can make us feel stuck when really what we have is an opportunity.
On today's episode I'm sharing 10 tips to help you keep moving forward when you feel stuck. This episode is great for anyone who is forced to take a break (a canceled cycle, a clinic closure for maintenance, etc.) or anyone who is just generally feeling tired and not sure how to move forward.
