Weekly Love and Hate

Christine Love: My niece and nephews Christmas lists contained so many books!!!!

Lindsay Love: Marriage Story on Netflix

Book Club Discussion

Book Club questions found on Victoriamag.com

  1. Do you think the traditional “little women” roles celebrated in Louisa May Alcott’s classic are outdated in today’s society? What ideals do you believe are timeless?
  2. Who is your favorite character in Little Women, and why? Which character do you most identify with, and why?
  3. In Chapter One, Marmee reads a letter from Mr. March in which he exhorts the girls to “fight their bosom enemies bravely.” For Jo, her enemy was her temper; for Amy, it was her vanity. What would you consider to be your own bosom enemy? Have you discovered a way to manage it?
  4. Although the narrator is able to offer insight from each of the main characters, Jo’s voice rings above the others throughout the pages. How do you think the novel would differ if a sister other than Jo was the central character?
  5. Were you disappointed that Jo did not marry Laurie? Or do you think Professor Bhaer was better suited for her? Why?
  6. The complexities of sibling relationships—a jumble of childhood games, petty squabbles, family traditions, deep frustrations, and fierce loyalty—play out on every page of the novel. What moments best or most precisely illustrate the bonds between sisters?
  7. What scenes from Little Women linger in your mind long after you have closed the book?

How to cope with stress during the holiday season

How to cope with stress during the holiday season

Do the holidays stress you out? If so, we've got Sheryl from How to Make a Life (https://howtomakealife.com/) back on with us, discussing ways to help you this holiday season! She's sharing her thoughts on women and how they're often times responsible for creating all of the Christmas magic. Plus, she's sharing her best tips for avoiding holiday burnout, the financial part of the holiday season, and we discuss loneliness and grief during the holidays.

Weekly Love and Hate:
Christine Love: Disney+ is magical
Lindsay Love: Silly, but I got my eyebrows tinted. Game-changer.
Christine Hate: Blogger Burnout (Figuring out my game plan and updating site)
Lindsay Hate: To go along with today’s episode, the consumerism of the holidays. The non-stop gift guides, etc. I’m very privileged, of course, and we try to donate during the holiday season and all year. It’s very self-serving to talk about it, but, why are there so few talking about giving back?

Expectations on Women Part 2
-Here are the questions we asked our audience - we read through some of the answers in the episode:
-What expectations do you think are placed on women?
-What pressures do you face as a woman?
-If you’re in a relationship, do you handle the majority of the grocery shopping/cleaning?
-How do you split household chores?
-Have you ever felt criticized for not appearing friendly/smiling?
-Have you ever felt the expectation to be intimate with your partner, even if you didn’t want to/didn’t feel like it?
-Do you feel pressured to be thin?
-Have you felt pressured into marriage or having a family?
-If you’re single, have you felt pressured to be in a relationship?
-Do you feel that you have to shave your body hair?
-We would love to discuss these same questions with men and members of the LGBTQ+ community. We realize women are not the only ones facing pressure and expectations.

Welcome to Influenced The Podcast (http://www.influencedthepodcast.com/adult-friendships/) Episode 7! We've got a mini bonus episode for you today! Surprise!!! Lindsay and Christine are chatting about authenticity in blogging! Let us ask you a question. Do you think that most bloggers content is actually authentic content? Do you think that they do a good job in showing their true personalities? Do you think they accept sponsorships to just land money. These are the topics that Lindsay and Christine tackle.

* What is your brand about?
* How are you different?
* Are you struggling to produce content?
* Are you happy with your content?
* You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be willing to try
* Are you just pumping out affiliate links?

Episode 7: Authenticity in Blogging

* Once a month have a discussion with yourself
* Are you going through a "Summer Slump?"

Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult?

Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult?

Weekly Love

Christine: Schitt’s Creek (Pregnancy Test Episode)

Ew, David Doormat

Lindsay: Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick (in Truffle)

Weekly Hate

Christine: The weather we’ve been having (Hot, Cold, Rainy, etc)

Lindsay: The Nordstrom Sale posts starting early (as of June 17) and telling people to open the Nordstrom card (bad advice to suggest people get in debt to shop a sale early)

Christine and Lindsay both shop the sale and use the credit card, but feel talking about it a month early is overkill.

The Nordstrom sale begins on July 12th. Will you be shopping it?

June Book Club (The Idea of You)

June Book Club (The Idea of You)

Weekly Love
Lindsay: Digit Money Saving App (https://digit.co/r/WkxLbgoI7f?wn) (Referral Link)
Lindsay featured this money saving app in a previous blog post (http://bourbonlipstickandstilettos.com/2019/05/things-that-make-my-life-easier/). If you have any questions, be sure to turn to her post for more information!
Christine: Harry’s Fig Body Wash (http://bit.ly/2FwjhEY) (Affiliate Link)
Christine mentioned this as her weekly love for this episode. It’s under $10.00 and smells incredible! Available where they sell Harry’s (http://bit.ly/2ZKj2xC) and available in two other scents.
Weekly Hate
Lindsay: Lack of diversity in the blogging world. Ever pay attention to blogger events? Alicia Tenise said it best (https://twitter.com/AliciaTenise/status/1141694857372676096).
Christine: Shopping for men, in particular, for Father’s Day. It’s often impossible to shop for certain people in your life. Right!?!? An update my FIL received an outfit for Tennis and dinner! I’m sure you were all on the edge of your seat waiting for that update, LOL!

Discussing The Idea of You By Robinne Lee
This episode opens up discussion for our first ever book club pick for the podcast. We chose The Idea of You (https://amzn.to/2Ry1T7A) as it is a book that really took us by surprise! It’s sexy, it’s thought provoking, and it’s a great Summer read! It brings up a lot of important topics such as ageism, feminism and sexism. However, I think that most importantly, it shows us that a woman can be desirable, even at an age where we’re told that we can’t be.

This book will have you wanting to pack your bags and head on tour with Hayes. It will have you blushing as the scenes are VERY descriptive. It will leave you asking yourself a lot of questions even after you finish reading this book. Bottom line, it’s a must-read book!
