Designers are always going to have to deal with clients that do not have a budget or are not wanting to pay as much. Sometimes it is worth doing the free work or the cheaper work. But you need to make that choice. What is not worth it is clients who are willing to pay. 

Freelance designers need to know how to present their work. Presenting with a client can make or break a design project and it is something that designers will have to learn. There are many schools of thoughts of how to present as a designer. Here are my thoughts on how to present your work to a client. 

As an inhouse designer you will wear many hats one of the most important hats you have to wear that is the brand identity enforcer. You need to make sure that everyone in the company is using the logo the right way and is not showing the logo in a way that is damaging. Also you need to make sure that you are using the logo but you need to know when to break the rules.

 Freelancers only have so much time in a day with their work. That is why it matters for freelance designers to find the right clients. They need to understand what clients they offer the most value to and what brings them the most enjoyment of working on. In this in between is the place where the right client for a designer is.

Inhouse designers need to present in their career there is more times than ever that you need to present. It could be something as simple as presenting a new flyer or as large as presenting a new strategy for the company. Designers are usually not the most comfortable being on a stage like that but it is something they need to get used to and understand how to do it to be a successful in their field.

Finding your niche as a designer is something that all freelance designers need to do to make their best career they can have. When starting off as a freelance designer everyone tries to offer everything and the kitchen sink. This is because people think that their customers want a swiss army knife.  We all go through different stages as creative, designer, etc. I think that there are specific stages everyone goes through as a creative and some people find stages that they are comfortable with and do not desire to keep moving. These stages include hobbyist, amateur, professional, and master. Each of these have multiple different levels inside of them. Also people will find that they are perfectly okay with some of these categories and that is okay. As designers and creatives you do not need to always be top of the food chain.
