Will AI ever have consciousness?

Will AI ever have consciousness?

In this episode of "Innovation Waves," we delve into the intriguing question of whether artificial intelligence (AI) will ever possess consciousness. As AI technology advances at a remarkable pace, pushing the boundaries of what was once thought possible, many ponder whether these intelligent systems can truly experience the world in the same way humans do.

We explore the concept of consciousness, the ability to have subjective experiences, self-awareness, and make independent decisions based on those experiences. While AI can mimic certain aspects of human intelligence, we discover the fundamental differences that set them apart.

Join us as we examine the limitations of AI systems, their lack of physical form and the inability to experience sensations, leading to an absence of subjective experiences. We explore how their decision-making abilities are confined to programmed instructions, devoid of personal experiences and emotions.

Furthermore, we discuss the crucial element of self-awareness, a defining characteristic of consciousness that remains elusive in the realm of AI. While they can recognize objects and identify patterns, AI systems lack the capacity to recognize themselves as distinct entities with unique perspectives and experiences.

As we conclude the episode, we reflect on the profound disparities between AI and human consciousness. While AI may continue to advance and exhibit astounding feats of intelligence, it will always fall short of genuine consciousness.

Tune in to "Innovation Waves" as we navigate the captivating intersection of AI and consciousness, shedding light on the intricate nature of human experience and the unique qualities that make consciousness an elusive trait for artificial intelligence.

An infinite journey into David Deutsch's world

An infinite journey into David Deutsch's world

I've recently immersed myself in the fascinating world of British physicist and philosopher David Deutsch. His book "The Beginning of Infinity" is a unique exploration of progress, innovation, and the strength of human knowledge. Here are some intriguing insights I've gathered from his work:

🔬 Deutsch is a powerhouse in the realms of technology, science, and physics. His contributions to quantum computing and the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics are monumental.

🌐 His perspective on "infinity" as an ongoing journey of progress, driven by human knowledge and innovation, challenges traditional wisdom and asserts that our understanding of the world is continually evolving.

💡 The concept of solid "explanations" is central to Deutsch's work. These explanations, he posits, should be hard to vary and specific, not just in scientific theories but in all aspects of human understanding.

⚖️ Deutsch also emphasizes the significant role of culture, politics, and morality in our pursuit of progress. He highlights the importance of open societies that support the free exchange of ideas and the need for ethical considerations in our knowledge quest.

🚀 His philosophy of "optimism", defined as the belief that there are no insurmountable obstacles to human progress, urges us to leverage the power of human knowledge to overcome limitations and pave the way for a future replete with infinite possibilities.

Deutsch's work is a profound reminder of the power of knowledge and the limitless potential of human progress. It challenges us to step outside our comfort zones and embrace the infinite possibilities that lie ahead.

🔗 You can read more about Deutsch's work in the full article at www.innovation-waves.com/an-infinite-journey-into-david-deutschs-world/. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the crossroads of science, philosophy, and human progress.

Don't forget to share your thoughts about the book or the article in the comments. Let's start a conversation!

Mental health, anxiety and biohacking.

Mental health, anxiety and biohacking.

Our brains and bodies are complex adaptive systems who rely on change and emergence as much as any other chaotic system. Understanding the structure and function of the human neurons is key to understanding mental health. Matinicus' company Pathwaves is a pioneer in the analysis of the structure and function of our conscious experience. Through extensive correlation of qEEG brainwave data and psychological evaluations, they have discovered a way to improve the effectiveness of mental health treatments. In this episode we'll try to understand where anxiety and depression generate from and why these feelings, that seem to be so counter to our well-being, even exist.

A Theory of Everything. Mathematics and the symmetry that might be at the heart of the universe

A Theory of Everything. Mathematics and the symmetry that might be at the heart of the universe

We've learnt to read the universe through its own language, mathematics, since ancient Greece. In 1687 Newton projected us forward by unifying the laws of nature with the ones governing the orbits of planetes. Then in 1865 Maxwell connected Electic energy with magnetism. In 1915 Einstein merged Space and Time with his revolutionary general relativity while Niels Bohr and Max Plank discovered the infinitively small and chaotic world of quantum physics. Since then, Theoretical Physicists and Experimental Physicists have worked hard to try to reconciliate general relativity with quantum mechanics in a Theory of Everything or Quantum Gravity.
For a few decades, String Theory seemed to do the job but Science is now craving for new ideas that can better fit our current models.
Garrett Lisi is an American theoretical physicist who works as an independent researcher off the coasts of Hawaii where he found the perfect balance between personal life and work, surf and science. In this episode we'll try to understand better how the academic world operates and how innovative ideas are tested before diving into Garrett's multidimensional world and his fascinating E8 theory: 8 dimensional structures that perfectly encode all particles and forces of our three dimensional world.
