Special Guest Interview with Denise Brixey
Denise Brixey grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, where she studied writing.  During her many years of living in a big city from birth into adulthood, she had more than her share of challenges. When she left the big city life to move up to a small town in the Gold Country, Denise volunteered at a cat rescue. She soon discovered that, while she was working to save them, it was she who was magically being rescued by the cats! Felines have been a meaningful part of Denise’s world ever since: starring in blogs, social media pages, and currently, her new book series. Although he’s been physically absent for years, the original Harry, a.k.a. Monkeyface, continues to magically impact her life through his teleportation that continues to fuel Denise’s passion for writing and love for her cats. Harry will live forever, so Denise started her series, Harry, the Wonder Cat, to share all his antics and spread meaning and joy to the lives of readers. Her latest book is entitled, Harry the Wonder Cat: The Jamaican Mission Harry the Wonder Cat: The Jamaican Mission In Harry the Wonder Cat: The Jamaican Mission, Harry is back in action after receiving another special assignment from the Cat King. He has been tasked with finding out who killed Marianne Johnson in 1929. At that time, Marianne had just gotten married in Jamaica to Nikki’s Great Uncle Frank, Harry’s then charge in the line of the Johnson family. Following Marianne’s death on their honeymoon, Frank spent the rest of his life trying to solve the mystery as to who killed her. Now he is unable to be at rest and needs Harry’s help, since he has the limitations brought on by being a ghost. To accomplish this mission, Harry needs to go back to the Hailey House B&B where Marianne died. Using his powers, and the cunning of his cat gang, he convinces Nikki, and her friend and housemate Heather, to vacation in Jamaica. Once there, Harry rounds up some Jamaican cats–and even a dog gets involved–to help him solve the mystery. The leader of the beach cat gang is a beautiful petite cat named Luna, who may be the solution to more than one mystery. Final writing prompt and bonus challenge
Today’s writing prompt is more about your reflections, rather than creating a new piece from scratch, so you’ll need your journals for this one. Write down your thoughts and reflections during this 30-day writing/creative challenge. What did you learn about yourself and your family during this challenge and what did you love about it. Put your responses to each day's prompts together and either publish them as an eBook on Amazon, Smashwords, Draft2Digital or whatever free self-publishing platform you choose to use, create a scrapbook or slideshow for your friends and family, or if you chose to create videos, put them together as a play list on YouTube and share the link to your playlist on social media. Special Guest interview with Carla Vergot
Carla Vergot taught special education in Virginia for years before taking a sabbatical to write her first book— Lily Barlow: The Mystery of Jane Dough. The experience was fulfilling, and while she missed touching the lives and minds of elementary school kids, she decided to resign from teaching permanently in order to write the second book in the series — Lily Barlow: The Mystery in the Mangroves — which was released in March, 2020. Carla recycles, gardens, and rescues bugs. For fun, she loves to travel, camp, fish and drive her Jeep off road. Her favorite food is a homegrown tomato on white bread with Duke’s mayonnaise. Her favorite dessert is a marshmallow on a stick by a campfire with friends. She lives with her husband and two rescue dogs in Virginia and is working on Lily Barlow 3 now. Weekend Wrap up: Camp NaNoWriMo updates and Day 22 Writing Prompt
Todays episode is two-fold. First of all, I discuss my goal and my progress during the first half of camp NaNoWriMo for the month of April. I also encourage parents to consider enrolling their children in the NaNoWriMo young writers program, if they show an interest in writing and/or storytelling. If you’d like to enroll your child(ren) in the young writers program, you may do so at the following link: https://ywp.nanowrimo.org/ The second part of this episode is the writing prompt of the day. If you could go anywhere in the world we live in, or if you could fly away to a fantasy or faery tale world, where would you go and how would you get there? Write a story about your journey to your chosen destination. What problems do you or your characters face along the way? 3 Tips for Repurposing Dumped Scenes in your Writing
In today’s episode, I discuss three ways writers can repurpose dumped scenes from their fiction. The tips are as follows: 1. Dump unnecessary scenes into groups, according to a side character’s backstory or plot sequence. 2. Place scene groups in separate documents for future use. 3. Rework scene groups for publication as single books to promote your novel. You can also publish them as a collection later on. Book review of The Misadventures of Mistletoe Mouse by Susan Bourrie
Celebrate the Christmas season with the lovable and hardworking Mistletoe Mouse. After he befriends Molly Dolly, a doll who is left behind on Christmas Eve by Santa’s elves because they did not have her ready in time to go on Santa’s sleigh, the pair join forces and, with the help of an express reindeer, work to make terrible Christmases terrific. During the following year, Mistletoe Mouse experiences one misadventure after another as he and Molly Dolly save the show when a little girl cannot sing her solo, comfort a grandmother whose grandchildren are caught in a blizzard, and teach boys and girls who cannot afford gifts for their parents how to make something even more valuable than presents. Whether he is dangling from a tree, covered with seaweed, confronting a stranger, or scampering through a skyscraper, Mistletoe Mouse tackles every Christmastime surprise and challenge with energy and imagination. The Misadventures of Mistletoe Mouse is a traditional and wholesome tale that is sure to please children of all ages. Book review of Lyric Harper and the Harmonic Bridge by Jen Lowry
In Today’s episode, I give you a review of the book entitled Lyric Harper and the Harmonic Bridge, by Jen Lowry. Lyric Harper, musical genius, is about to embark on her senior year at the most prestigious arts school in the world nestled right in the pines of North Carolina. Harmonic Arts Center, this hidden gem of talent and artistry, has another mission than to equip talented young musicians with the heart for greatness but to test and develop their inner spirit to bring out their mythological nature. Seven youth are selected for an early admittance summer program under the guise of performing at the opening showcase in the fall. They are called for a greater purpose and shapeshift, train, and work as one flock to combine their gifts to defeat the creatures threatening to cross the Harmonic Bridge into our world. Birds of a feather fly and rock together in this new MG Contemporary Fantasy set in 1985. Special Guest Interview with Thea Ramsay
Thea Ramsay has been a Christian for a long time. As a member of the Baptist Denomination, she has undergone the believer’s baptism twice—the first time at the age of fourteen, the second time in the Pacific Ocean off Maui, with her late husband. She started writing before she could spell. She still remembers writing a short story in which she spelled magic “M-A-D-J-I-K.” She’s also a voracious reader, and still likes magic. Not witchcraft, but that of fantasies and fairy tales, which have delighted people for centuries. Thea was born blind, and she suffers from chronic pain, caused by a variety of conditions, and a serious mental illness called borderline personality disorder. Thea loves soft, romantic and beautiful things, which she writes about in her novels, because she feels that the world is lacking in these qualities. Lisa mixes her own personal journey of emotional healing so the reader can relate, and identify their own need for emotional healing. The book has contemplations or visual prayer exercises at the end of each chapter, however, this is not a how to book. Readers are invited to cultivate their own intimate relationship with the lover of their soul. Book review of Lucy by Thea Ramsay
Today’s episode is a review of a fabulous SciFi novel entitled Lucy, which was written by Thea Ramsay. Description: Ten-year-old Lucy and her parents live on Earth in the last throes of its final holocaust. Their only hope is being accepted as refugees on another world, but one rejection letter after another eats away at their hope, while death closes in on them. Hope revives when a stranger arrives with a letter of acceptance from the mysterious planet Andorpha. While Lucy, her best friend, Kim, and her parents wait to board the space ship, her parents are killed. Lucy faces danger and growth as she comes to grips with her parents' death and the strange customs of Andorpha. While Kim laps up Andorphian love like warm milk, Lucy wonders if it's all too good to be true. When Lucy learns the Andorphians believe their planet is under a curse, she begins to suspect there is a reason that she and her family were so readily accepted as refugees. Do they expect her to be the antidote to an ancient curse? When Kim urges Lucy to accept the Andorphians and their way of life, the only shot at life they have, Lucy is certain she's right. But all is not what it seems. Special Guest Interview with Cynthia MacGregor
Multi-published author and freelance editor Cynthia MacGregor can claim over 100 books of hers that have been published since 1993, when her first book came out. And that total doesn’t include books she’s ghostwritten for clients. She writes for both adults and kids; and oddly, while her books for adults are almost entirely nonfiction, her books for kids are predominantly fiction. She works 7 days a week, with time off for church on Sundays, and puts in long hours every day. People who know her call her “the Energizer bunny.” She just keeps going and going. Cyn, as she likes to be called, loves her work and her life and says, “There’s no one in the world I’d want to trade lives with.” Visit Cyn’s website at: www.cynthiamacgregor.com  and find her on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008501104899  (there is more than one Cynthia MacGregor on Facebook.
