Episode 38: Reflection as a Way to Understand
This episode asks us to reflect and to notice when reflection happens on and off of the yoga mat. Within the Eight Limbs of Yoga, we have the niyamas, or positive duties. While they are all observances, Tapas and Svadhyaya, two niyamas in particular, remind us that action, passion, or fire happens, and are followed by self-study. As we study ourselves and look lovingly on the way we are in the world, we open up space to listen and hear feedback from others. Instead of thinking or reacting, can you reflect? You don’t have to analyze all the time. Can you bend back on yourself as a way to be propelled forward? We discuss a-ha moments and how messages from the universe can be clear and direct. We acknowledge that too much awareness becomes too heady and can lead to spiritual bypassing. We surrender to the notion that we can absorb what we need to embrace the moment.

We chat about how these ideas apply to yoga, how to own your truth, how other people’s projections can show up, and what your responsibility is and what isn’t.

Episode 32: Captivated by the Process, Not the Outcome
We can become fixated on the outcome when it comes to personal projects, work, and creative endeavors. We tend to seek external validation to prove the worth of our work.
How can we become captivated by the process, rather than the outcome? Because oftentimes "doing the thing", and not the result, is what fills our days.
In this episode, learn how mindfulness and yoga help us to be more involved in the present, rather than only thinking of the result in the future. We talk about trust, boats, the dip, and more. Listen now!

Episode 27: Karma Yoga as a Pathway
This week's episode discusses Karma yoga as one of the 5 pathways. Karma, in this instance, means "action." The path of Karma Yoga is "the yoga of action, the path of selfless service."
To be genuinely selfless can be challenging. We share personal struggles and stories of inaction in an effort to be transparent with you all and to show that this doesn't just occur overnight.Karma yoga can be attained when we are in line with our dharma (duty in life) and is an effective means of spiritual development. Give it a listen and share your journey with us! :)
P.S. Here's the quote Sydney shared:
“The one who sees inaction in the midst of action, and action in the midst of action is wise and can act in the spirit of yoga. With no desire for success, no anxiety about failure, indifferent to results, this person burns up their actions in the fire of wisdom. Surrendering all thoughts of outcome, unperturbed, self-reliant, this person does nothing at all, even when fully engaged in actions. There is nothing this person expects, nothing that this person fears. Serene, free from possessions, untainted, acting with the body alone, content with whatever happens, unattached to pleasure or pain, success or failure, this person acts and is never bound by those actions. When a person has let go of attachments, and is grounded in wisdom, everything this person does is an act of sacred joy, and all actions melt away.” ~ Bhagavad Gita ch. 4 v. 18-22

What happens after dharma is established? Or does it all come back around at some point?
Today we explore the four Purusharthas or the "object of human pursuit" found in ancient the Vedic texts. Dharma leads the way as we explore artha (material security), kama (material happiness), and moksha (spiritual liberation). How can these aims lead you to your purpose, and how can your purpose lead you to these aims? Will you let us know in the comments how the Purusharthas are showing up in your life right now?

We discuss what being in-process looks like, what we see on social media, how to step back and check-in with what is actually going on instead of seeking outside validation, and the idea of adjusting in the process to do what actually suits you instead of the goal.

Episode 14: Exploring Isvara Pranidhana
We have arrived at the very last niyama, Isvara Pranidhana, often understood as surrendering to a supreme being or our truest self. In practice, we learn how to cultivate trust and how to let go of control.
We discuss surrender and what that means today, how to observe the walls we build in protection that may obstruct this niyama, how it shows up for us personally, worry/rumination, AND there's very amusing entertainment from Jovie the dog.
It's sometimes helpful to think of this niyama as an "opening to what is," instead of fighting against life.

In this episode, we discuss different avenues of self-study, pride, music, labels, and experience some real a-ha moments toward the end. Listen now and let us know what you think! Do you have a different way you connect with Svadhyaya?

Episode 12: Exploring Tapas
Today we dive into the next niyama, tapas. In Sanskrit "tap" means "to burn" so we think of tapas as a fiery discipline or passion. In this episode, we chat about the word discipline and how it can feel full of possibilities, rather than a punishment. We discuss how tapas helps light us up and burn away the impurities holding us back, the importance of controlled burns, how tapas involves courage, and more!
“A worthy aim makes life illumined, pure and divine. Without such an aim, action and prayer have no value. Life without tapas is like a heart without love.” – BKS Iyengar

Is feeling content currently part of your life? Where does it show up? What helps you find it? Our journeys are all different.
