Episode 38: Reflection as a Way to Understand

Episode 38: Reflection as a Way to Understand

This episode asks us to reflect and to notice when reflection happens on and off of the yoga mat. Within the Eight Limbs of Yoga, we have the niyamas, or positive duties. While they are all observances, Tapas and Svadhyaya, two niyamas in particular, remind us that action, passion, or fire happens, and are followed by self-study. As we study ourselves and look lovingly on the way we are in the world, we open up space to listen and hear feedback from others. Instead of thinking or reacting, can you reflect? You don’t have to analyze all the time. Can you bend back on yourself as a way to be propelled forward? We discuss a-ha moments and how messages from the universe can be clear and direct. We acknowledge that too much awareness becomes too heady and can lead to spiritual bypassing. We surrender to the notion that we can absorb what we need to embrace the moment.

Episode 34: You and Your Expectations

"...Patanjali says that you must do your yoga practice, whatever that might be, with consistence, diligence, patience, and, most importantly, without attachment to results. By not worrying about what will come from your efforts, you’ll set your mind free."

Meeraj and Lianna discuss expectations. We learn that expectations are helpful, but that a frequent check-in is necessary in order to confirm we still align with our goals. We also discuss how we cannot control anything other than ourselves and how control is a large part of managing expectations!

Episode 27: Karma Yoga as a Pathway

This week's episode discusses Karma yoga as one of the 5 pathways.  Karma, in this instance, means "action." The path of Karma Yoga is "the yoga of action, the path of selfless service."

To be genuinely selfless can be challenging. We share personal struggles and stories of inaction in an effort to be transparent with you all and to show that this doesn't just occur overnight.Karma yoga can be attained when we are in line with our dharma (duty in life) and is an effective means of spiritual development. Give it a listen and share your journey with us! :)

P.S. Here's the quote Sydney shared:

The one who sees inaction in the midst of action, and action in the midst of action is wise and can act in the spirit of yoga. With no desire for success, no anxiety about failure, indifferent to results, this person burns up their actions in the fire of wisdom. Surrendering all thoughts of outcome, unperturbed, self-reliant, this person does nothing at all, even when fully engaged in actions. There is nothing this person expects, nothing that this person fears. Serene, free from possessions, untainted, acting with the body alone, content with whatever happens, unattached to pleasure or pain, success or failure, this person acts and is never bound by those actions. When a person has let go of attachments, and is grounded in wisdom, everything this person does is an act of sacred joy, and all actions melt away.” ~ Bhagavad Gita ch. 4 v. 18-22
