The "no biopsy" way to address prostate "cancer"

The "no biopsy" way to address prostate "cancer"

For 70 years we have been taking prostate glands out of men in an attempt to "cure" prostate cancer. For about the same length of time we have been sticking needles in prostate glands in a scavenger hunt looking for cancer cells. These approaches seem logical and have become the standard of care. But there is a problem, the current approach to diagnosing and treating prostate cancer has not been demonstrated to actually cure cancer, or even help men live longer. On the other hand biopsies, surgery and radiation cause harm. How did we get stuck in this place, and is there anything we can do about it?

Intellectual Medicine proposes an alternative approach to evaluating and managing suspected prostate cancer that does not involve sticking needles in the prostate, surgery or radiation. For some men this approach will offer them a welcomed option.

Above all else ask questions, gather information, then reflect upon how you want to manage your health. This podcast will help to give you a unique perspective worthy of considering

Is Sirolimus the Anti-aging Fountain of Youth We Have Been Searching for?

Is Sirolimus the Anti-aging Fountain of Youth We Have Been Searching for?

Since his discovery in the 1990s sirolimus, also known as Rapamune, has been intriguing scientists with its antiaging and life extension potential. The cumulative research in labs have pointed towards strong biological evidence of cellular antiaging. Studies testing various types of mammals have all had consistent results of life extension up to 30% while preserving youthful vitality. Evidence in animal studies includes dogs who are having the same beneficial outcomes. The evidence has become so compelling that hundreds of thousands of people have started to make it part of their antiaging regimen. The clinical results have been impressive.

Dosed once a week, relatively inexpensive, extraordinarily low side effect profile, and an accumulating catalog of positive outcomes all are starting to build momentum for this agent. This podcast will share with you the science, philosophy and some of the evidence behind its use.

The episode kicks off with headlines from medical news including a cancer treatment that actually increases cancer risk, and when is prostate cancer not really cancer?

The promise of stem cell therapy: has its time arrived?

The promise of stem cell therapy: has its time arrived?

We all have stem cells. They are part of the body's natural regenerative process. As we age our population of stem cells diminishes. Given their central nature to our vitality, should we endeavor to boost these levels through infusions? What role do stem cells play when it comes to joint regeneration? Can it help to reverse chronic disease states like heart failure, cognitive impairment, and others? These questions are explored as well as a discussion of the difference between stem cells acquired overseas, and those domestically available.

The podcast opens with headlines from medical news including new studies looking at testosterone, prostate cancer and prostate enlargement. Does replacing testosterone increase the risk?

New information regarding the risk of screening for lung cancer. Is screening more dangerous than helpful?

Can Methylene Blue preserve the brain and stop dementia?

Can Methylene Blue preserve the brain and stop dementia?

Dementia might be the most feared consequence of aging. However there is nothing inevitable about brain decline. Our brain should remain functioning at a high level throughout the entire span of our lives. Any degree of lost function should be responded to vigorously. But that's the dilemma, despite billions of dollars of research big Pharma and conventional medicine have not discovered a remedy

This episode describes the role of methylene blue, a generic drug that can be repurposed to support brain health. Compelling evidence supports its potential value. In addition to helping people with cognitive impairment, it has enormous potential for primary antiaging and brain preservation in people who currently feel great.

The episode opens with headlines from medical news highlighting interesting articles and developments relevant to antiaging.

Can You Eat Your Way Through Ozempic (Semaglutide/GLP-1)? Strategies for Long Term Weight Loss success

The weight loss drug revolution is upon us! Brought you my big Pharma, the new class of drugs are being heavily promoted as the solution to the problem of national obesity. Drugs are an important and welcomed component of the comprehensive approach for managing weight in America. However at $1500 a month, Ozempic and other drugs like it (weegovy, semaglutide, tirzepatide, GLP-1) should not necessarily be your first choice. Older drugs that have been around for decades are cheap and effective.

We discuss the concept of "sequential polypharmacy." This is the technique of using different drugs as your body becomes resistant to them in order to continue weight loss success. We also discuss some of the common side effects and ways to avoid them when using this class of drugs

The podcast opens with a highlight on salmon. Which is better, wild or farmed? We also report some disturbing news about water. Is any of the rainwater in the world safe to drink?

Yes, it's a complex and contaminated world. But with the right knowledge you can navigate through the raindrops and keep yourself on a path toward 120 years!

Is a "Senior Moment" or Dementia? How to Save Your Brain.

Is a "Senior Moment" or Dementia? How to Save Your Brain.

Dementia is the greatest fear of aging. Ending our days babbling, incoherent, perhaps in a nursing home is a nightmare too terrifying to contemplate. I believe the conventional thinking is wrong when it comes to brain function. There is no such thing as "senior moments." They represent the leading edge of brain decline and action should be taken! There is no need to accept any degree of compromise in your brain's function simply because of your age. You can tilt the field to your advantage but it's best to act early. Having a brain-health plan in place when you are vital, and taking the right steps at the earliest signs of decline will give you a better outlook. Don't accept brain decline as "normal for your age." You should have a crisp high functioning brain every day of your life until your last breath.

Could It Be Your Thyroid Even if the Tests Are "Normal?"

Could It Be Your Thyroid Even if the Tests Are "Normal?"

There is a difference between having your best thyroid levels, and one that is just marginal. In medicine we too often lump things into broad categories of being either "normal," or "abnormal." When it comes to your hormones there is a large gradient in between. Medicine has been lulled into accepting crude interpretations of lab testing as the primary mechanism for evaluating thyroid function.

We should always start by addressing symptoms. Low thyroid can cause fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, irregular menses, depression, brain fog, irregular heartbeats. The list goes on. Treating thyroid conditions strictly by looking at lab studies will often miss the target. This podcast explains how the thyroid works, and will give you information that you need to have a thoughtful conversation with your doctor.

Adult immunizations. Are they worth the risk? Which to get and which to avoid

Adult immunizations. Are they worth the risk? Which to get and which to avoid

Immunizations have taken on an almost a sacred quality in conventional medicine. Doctors believe in them with the fervor usually allocated to religious pursuits. Yet what's the evidence? Is it possible that we are overvaluing the merit of immunizations and ignoring the potential adverse consequences? With so many different shots available how do you know which ones are worth it? I share with you my thoughts about immunizations on a broad level, including the potential hidden risks that can occur by stimulating the immune system. I also break down the recommended adult immunizations and share with you my opinion regarding whether or not you should consider them. Rather than just telling your doctor that you don't want any immunizations, be prepared for a thoughtful basis upon which to make your decisions. This podcast will give you a background and the information you need to decide what's going to fit your philosophy and your life.

Reversing Arterial Aging, an Essential part of Life Extension

Reversing Arterial Aging, an Essential part of Life Extension

Your cells need oxygen and food to survive. Without them, they will die. Your arteries deliver oxygen and food at a cellular level. To prevent the effects of aging, cells must be kept vital. The process begins by maintaining young, elastic, pliable arteries.

The dominant belief system in conventional medicine is that arterial aging is inevitable and unalterable. However there is nothing in biology that makes this inevitable. In this episode we explore the theory that hardening of the arteries can be reversed, and that arteries can be maintained in a youthful state throughout the entire lifespan. We also present the research produced at Intellectual Medicine lending support to this theory, and we discussed a practical approach to arterial antiaging.

As go the arteries, so go the cells. As go the cells, so goes the person. People should not die from arterial decay, heart attacks and strokes. To change the course of aging, we have to change the way we think and we must acquire new knowledge. This podcast provides you with some of that essential information.

Erections for Life! The Care, Maintenance and Restoration of Erectile Health

Erections for Life! The Care, Maintenance and Restoration of Erectile Health

For the vast majority of men having a capacity for healthy erections is an essential element of their self-esteem and quality of life. The loss of erectile confidence can lead to social withdrawal and deprive men of the full measure of the joy in living.

This podcast discusses the critical components necessary for erectile health. Brain chemistry, hormones, blood flow, and anatomy all come to bear. Restoring, or maintaining erectile health requires attention to all of these components. Implementing treatment in isolation without addressing all of the factors is a recipe for wasted money and frustration. Peptide therapy for antiaging. Can peptide therapy restore energy, health, sexual vitality and make you live longer?

Peptides have exploded in popularity in the antiaging world over the past several years. These short-chain amino acids are being compounded and made available to the public for the purpose of lifestyle enhancement, recovery from injury and illness, and life extension. There is a dizzying array of options available. With limited research data, and a lack of an FDA approval, it is necessary to get credible information so you can make sound decisions about whether or not to use peptides, and which peptides make sense for you.

Three fascinating peptides are discussed. Melanotan-2 which can help skin tanning, sexual vitality, and weight management. BPC – 157 which can accelerate wound recovery and reduce inflammatory conditions and CJC – Ipamorelin which can stimulate release of growth hormone.

The Inflammation-Fat Connection: How Does NAC Help Treat Obesity?

The Inflammation-Fat Connection: How Does NAC Help Treat Obesity?

Why is it that diet and exercise leads to precious little reduction in body fat? Weight loss has very little to do with the thermodynamics of exercise and diet, and everything to do with internal metabolic and hormonal regulation.

In this podcast Dr. Petteruti explains the association between free radical inflammation, and the way that it stimulates the growth of fat cells. The role of antioxidants, and the role of NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) in particular in regard to their impact on obesity will be discussed. It is true that excess adiposity stimulates inflammation and a free radical overload. But it has now been recognized that inflammation and free radicals themselves can cause overgrowth of fat cells. Unless the cycle is interrupted, weight reduction can be difficult to achieve.

Can NAD keep you young? Evidence and recommendations from Intellectual Medicine

Can NAD keep you young? Evidence and recommendations from Intellectual Medicine

Aging is marked by a reduction in energy. Old people lose their a zip. They sit, and become less motivated to take on everything from a routine task, to a major project. Why does that happen?

There is growing evidence that the decline in NAD may be a key element in the aging process, including energy reduction. NAD is a naturally occurring micronutrient that is made by the body. It stands for, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It is in the family of B vitamins. When we are young we make abundant amounts of it. NAD is responsible for the bounce and energy of youth. As we move past 40 our levels of NAD decline, and so too does our energy. NAD is critical for the maintenance of healthy mitochondria. Mitochondria are the "powerpack" of the cell. They provide the cell with energy which in turn energizes the entire body.

Organs such as the heart and the brain are high users of energy and require maximum mitochondrial function to be their best. There is growing evidence that mitochondrial degradation may contribute to dementia and cognitive decline.

This podcast explains the current understanding regarding NAD, and reviews practical ways it can be put to work right now to help change the way you age.

Should a man ever have his prostate gland removed? Is there a better option?

Should a man ever have his prostate gland removed? Is there a better option?

The stories are as tragic as they are common. A healthy man sees his doctor and is found to have an elevated PSA level. A biopsy leads to a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Despite having few symptoms, a life altering diagnosis has been rendered, and the treatment options all look bleak.

Surgical removal of the gland with the possibility of leaking urine and impotence, high dose radiation with the possibility of stool incontinence and radiation proctitis to develop years later, or the excruciating idleness of waiting.

In this podcast Dr. Petteruti describes some of the research that questions the wisdom of conventional treatments for prostate cancer. He also describes a complementary approach that helps support the body in its effort to prevent the cancer from ever becoming a problem.

How to Maintain Youthful Skin at Any Age

How to Maintain Youthful Skin at Any Age

In this episode, Dr. Stephen Petteruti explores the science behind good skin, from our face to our feet! He also discusses major scientific breakthroughs now available to help maintain a youthful appearance.

This podcast goes over some of the very basic elements of caring for your skin. I discuss the way to care for your skin from bathing, to external treatments, to the most essential supplements and internal dynamics to give you a glowing appearance.

Not only is skin central to your appearance, but it is a critical element of your immune system. Skin also is a barometer of your global health. Dry scaling skin, psoriasis, white patches, vitiligo, even hair loss and brittle fingernails can all point toward problems with internal organs and general health.

Wrinkles, age spots, and loss of elasticity are not inevitable. By making the right choices at the right time you can keep your skin lustrous throughout your life. No matter your condition, it's never too late to take positive action.

Listen to this podcast to get the basics, then followed up with "How to Maintain Youthful Skin at Any Age Session 2" for more advanced treatments.

Common medical treatments that increase cancer risk.

Common medical treatments that increase cancer risk.

Cancer is on track to become the number one cause of death in America. Colon Cancer rates are increasing amongst young people. It seems that we are losing the "war in cancer."

This may be because we are failing to recognize the enemy in our midst. This podcast explores some of the lesser appreciated risk factors for increasing the risk of cancer. Unfortunately some of those risk factors include treatments rendered by conventional medicine, and diagnostic procedures that we are frequently exposed to. This podcast highlights some of those risks, and gives you tactics that you can use to help protect yourself.

The role of accumulated toxic metals in relation to cancer is also discussed, along with advice on how to test for those metals, and what you do when they are found.

Knowledge is your best weapon in the war on cancer. Using information to make an individual plan rather than waiting to be rescued by the pharmaceutical industry is your best path forward.

The endless pandemic; how to survive in a world with forever Covid-19

The endless pandemic; how to survive in a world with forever Covid-19

Covid-19, Delta, Gamma, Covid-20, Covid-21, it's starting to look like this will never end.

Viruses have been with us since the dawn of mankind. Yet we have thrived despite them. We can credit our innate immune system with the fact that most of us get up and carve through every day feeling great.

One of the ironic aspects of the current pandemic is the consequence of our overreaching diagnostic capabilities. Because we can now "diagnose" somebody who feels great but is simply carrying a virus, we have created an unprecedented level of societal concern. Never before in the history of pandemics have we labeled totally healthy people as being "infected" simply because they are carrying a virus. We all carry viruses, every day.

Our ability to acquire data is happening faster than our capacity to rationally interpret it. The solution to living in a socially integrated environment is not to hide behind a shield, but to trust, and reinforce, our invisible force field known as our immune system.

As explained in this podcast, supporting immune health is part of anti-aging . Passively waiting for the next immunization will not make you healthy. Actively taking steps to counteract the effects of aging will.

The information on Covid-19 keeps coming at us faster than we can make sense of it. Now comes recommendations for a booster shot! Does it make sense for you to get one? What is the science behind it?

Dr. Petteruti visits the topic of immunizations with his reflection on the philosophy of receiving the immunization, is your motive altruistic or self-interested? He also discusses the risk/benefit of receiving immunization versus risking primary infection.

What have we learned through the pandemic? Is it better to "spike" the curve and let the virus run through fast and hard, or is our current approach of flattening the curve really working? Dr. Petteruti poses tough questions worthy of reflection, and advocates for the freedom of thought required to process complex issues.

Is the death rate from cancer really on the decline? Does the treatment of cancer actually cause cancer?

Is the death rate from cancer really on the decline? Does the treatment of cancer actually cause cancer?

We've been fighting the war on cancer for many decades. It seems that we frequently hear about all of the "success" that we are having. Headlines touting the declining death rates from cancer are common.

And yet, cancer is on track to become the leading cause of death in America.

How much of cancer rate reporting is influenced by a desire to maintain robust funding for ongoing research, and pharmacologic treatments? Without a sense of optimism, enthusiasm for funding would dry up.

Is it correct to equate an improvement in 2 year survival with a decline in the overall death rate even though the cancer in question may still be terminal?

How much does cancer treatment, both radiation therapy and chemotherapy, along with the frequent high dose radiation imaging often used to follow the results of treatment, end up actually increasing the risk of new cancers forming, or the old cancer relapsing?

There many things done in the name of cancer treatment that are the result of protocol, more than evidence-based results. Initiating treatment without definitive evidence of results is common in medicine. However, in some cases the dogmatic approach of cancer treatment can deprive patients of being offered alternative approaches.

The "Big 3" to support your immune system

The "Big 3" to support your immune system

In this episode we discuss the most critical micronutrients essential to maintaining high functioning immune systems. Without a highly functioning natural immune system, not even an immunization will help protect you. Practically speaking, it is impossible to develop immunizations for all the viruses already out there. What saves us is our "innate immunity." That refers to our ability to smack away infections before we even know we have been exposed.

This podcast will help you prioritize some of the most important micronutrients that you should be considering as a daily supplement. It also gives you information regarding range of dosing.

COVID-19 immunizations, masks and immune support; A functional medicine perspective.

COVID-19 immunizations, masks and immune support; A functional medicine perspective.

When it comes to the COVID-19 immunization there are more opinions than there is knowledge. The simple fact is that viruses are not curable. The best means of diminishing their risk is through immunization. However, this fact does not mean that those who decide not to get the immunization are acting irrationally. Science and facts don't drive human decisions as much as philosophy.

In addition to reflecting on the immunization, Dr. Petteruti explains why masking may present a greater risk than the immunization, or perhaps the disease itself.

He also shares with the audience two critical supplements essential to support immune health.

The new Alzheimer's drug: Why approval may represent a setback, and what things may have the power of prevention.

The new Alzheimer's drug: Why approval may represent a setback, and what things may have the power of prevention.

Our medical system loves drugs that treat diseases. People with a disease are highly motivated to spend money and are willing to expose themselves to a risk in the hope of a cure. Unfortunately this new drug for Alzheimer's, Aduhelm, comes at enormous price tag of over $50,000 per year, and does not cure dementia. In addition it's been shown to have some very serious side effects. Nevertheless, it achieved FDA approval.

In this episode we discussed why this can be such a setback for dementia treatment. The focus becomes redirected away from prevention and toward passive hope of a cure. We also discuss some of the cross-cultural rates of dementia and look at the theories why some countries have such low rates. We highlight environmental factors such as iron, copper, lead and look at the correlation with hormones and dementia. For anybody with a desire to protect their brain, this podcast is essential listening.

Many people embrace exercise with religious fervor. If they get enough steps in each day, or lift enough weight and train hard, it will be the antidote to the aging process. We have watches to remind us to get up and walk around during the day, track our steps and remind us to hit the gym but will this really stop the clock on aging?

In this episode we will present evidence supporting the ideal amount of exercise in order to preserve youth and extend life. We will also discuss how to manage exercise that could tip into the toxic range, and we refute the commonly embraced belief that exercise is a path toward weight reduction.

Should I get the COVID-19 immunization?

Should I get the COVID-19 immunization?

Now that the immunization against COVID-19 has become available, people are questioning whether or not it is in their best interest to receive the vaccine. This episode explores the different factors that are worth considering as you contemplate your decision. It also reflects upon the ways to help your immune system work at its best should you choose to get vaccinated.

As with most decisions regarding your body and health, the answer to the question rests as much on philosophy as it does on science. It also rests upon the risk/benefit analysis which is different for each person. Is it more important to your health, or the health of people you come in contact with? Which of these two objectives do you value the most? This episode invites you to reflect upon these perspectives as you contemplate the vaccine.

Should I get a knee replacement?

Should I get a knee replacement?

Should I get a knee replacement? Painful knees might be one of the most common symptoms people face. Oftentimes we are told it is arthritis, and that it will progress. Drugs are commonly prescribed. Often the path leads to a surgeon's door where procedures are performed. The body is a self healing machine, so too are your joints. In this podcast I describe some of the approaches that can be used to rejuvenate and restore painful arthritic knees. We will also explore the risks of surgical intervention, even for common indications like a torn meniscus. Research is building demonstrating that these procedures often are more harmful than beneficial.

Protect yourself from well-intentioned surgeons who believe an operation is a solution to your problem. It may not be. Repel the notion that arthritis is progressive without potential for reversal. This is contrary to what we know about the cellular nature of the human body. It always strives to heal.

Is Our Healthcare System Making Us Sick? Commonly Used Drugs That Have Significant Risk.

Is Our Healthcare System Making Us Sick? Commonly Used Drugs That Have Significant Risk.

We don't have a healthcare system, we have a sick care intervention system. Pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and doctors make the bulk of their money when you are sick and they get to intervene. There is very little incentive to put forth research on ways to keep you healthy.

Drugs have become the centerpiece of what we mistakenly call  "healthcare" in our country. Drugs and surgery are dangerous, toxic, and can cause harm. On the other hand there are times where conventional medical intervention can be valuable. In this episode we discussed the split between health maintenance, and our sick care intervention system. We also give listeners specific advice regarding drug classes that are commonly utilized but have significant risk.

Living the 120 year lifespan is helped by avoiding encounters with the "sick care" intervention system that presently exists. Intellectual Medicine, and its brainchild "DRIPBaR" are helping to lead the charge toward a new approach to healthcare maintenance.

Can Women Use Testosterone?

Can Women Use Testosterone?

Testosterone for women?

Testosterone is one of the most abundant and essential hormones for women. Traditionally thought of as a man's hormone, testosterone fuels the brain, bone, muscle, mood and sexual vitality of women. Prior to the onset of the menopause, and even while the menstrual cycle and fertility remain intact, testosterone levels in women can decline to a point that creates symptoms including; decreased sex drive, increased mid abdominal fat, depressed mood and increased irritability among other problems.

Long neglected in the field of human healthcare, testosterone is growing in its popularity and in the understanding of its central role in preserving the health and vitality of women. Simply put, the majority women will need to replace this hormone at some point in their life span, or suffer the consequence of its decline. Shrinking muscle, shrinking bone, shortening height, deteriorating skin quality, loss of libido function and cognitive decline are all felt to be consequences of declining testosterone levels.

This episode explains the antiaging perspective on why testosterone therapy should be considered for women and puts some of the perceived risks into perspective.
