How Intention Manifestation Can Change Your Life, with Paula Giroday

Paula Giroday is a mother, actress, wellness enthusiast, and human design reader. She always knew she wanted to be a mom, but she also didn't think there was going to be a time that was "too late". After all, her mom birthed her in her 30s. Paula is married and now has two children. In this episode, she gave details on the emergency c-section for her first delivery. She also talks about her second child's delivery, which was a planned home birth. In many cases, a natural delivery is discouraged because of the risk of a uterine rupture. Encouraging data from the CDC shows that the number of VBAC is increasing.

Nine Rounds of IVF, with Yolanda

Nine Rounds of IVF, with Yolanda

Yolanda is based in Atlanta, GA and she tells us about her “never give up story”.  Her life includes the loss of her parents early in her life and she also went through a divorce. She has a successful career in clinical health and knew it would be hard to meet another spouse and have a family.  Her mindset helped her to get to where she is today.  Despite the challenges she had endured in life, she had to be happy whether she was going to have a baby or not. She touches on the importance of African Americans knowing more about their fertility early on in life. We talk about platelet rich plasma to help blood flow to the uterus. She tells women to claim their fertility regardless of how it happens.  There is no set rule! Are you happy with where you are right now?

Cesarean Awareness Month: My C-Section Experience

Cesarean Awareness Month: My C-Section Experience

This month is Cesarean Awareness Month.  Did you know there is actually an organization called International Cesarean Awareness Network? If you didn’t, you’re not alone because I just learned about it too.  This organization’s purpose is to:

  • to improve maternal-child health by reducing preventable cesareans through education
  • support cesarean recovery, and
  • advocate for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

In this episode, I shared my c-section story.  I had a planned c-section and fortunately, all went smoothly and almost exactly as written for our birth plan.  I was a candidate for planned c-section from early on because of a previous open abdominal surgery to remove several fibroids.  My story includes: my health leading up to the motherhood, my cesarean experience, and how long it took me to bounce back.

After having this experience, I realized that I hadn't actually heard anyone's birth story.  I only heard about the pain from an epidural.  On tv shows (sitcoms) and movies, having the baby at the hospital leaves out a ton of detail too!  If you had a cesarean, write to us and share your thoughts!

Something I didn't know is that according to researchers, 50% of cesareans could be safely prevented.  Did you feel pressure to do a cesarean?  Was a cesarean what you wanted?  Did you have enough information?  Was you c-section elective?  Did you have to change doctors?  Were you scared to have a c-section?

*******

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with International Cesarean Awareness Network.  When making a decision, please seek advice from medical professionals.  I am only sharing my experience and not giving any advice.

Give Yourself Grace with Leselle, Full Belly Life Mom Coach

Leselle started a company called Full Belly Life to help moms live life fully.  She says we need to live out of the fullness of our belly to live the life that we dream.

Leselle’s journey includes fibroid removal (UFE) and the success from overcoming that.  She herself became a mom at 43, after being told by her doctor that she likely would not get pregnant on her own.  She was even told that she would likely need donor eggs.  She recalled that in her 30s she had a dream where she saw her own children that looked like her.  For this reason, she knew donor eggs were not going to be included in her path.

She got pregnant naturally and had her son at 43.  When she realized that many moms were not enjoying their motherhood journey, she made it her mission to check their hearts to help them enjoy the honor of being a mom.  If the motherload  is overwhelming you, know that you can give yourself grace.  Leselle, shares a few tips on how to ease the stress that can go along with momlife.

My heart is full! This episode really is for anyone who is struggling with the motherload. I hope this helped someone today.  Thank you for being here and if this touched you in any way, please share this with a friend to help inspire another person on their motherhood journey.

She is the author of “The Low-Carbon Cookbook and Action Plan: Reduce Food Waste and Combat Climate Change with 140 Sustainable Plant-Based Recipes” (DK/Penguin Random House, June 2021).
Alejandra joined me for a conversation on the First Time Moms Beyond 35 Podcast to talk about her surprise pregnancy at 46! This is good news for anyone thinking about having a child later in life. She had previously been told that she was not able to get pregnant and therefore she didn't expect it to be possible. To her surprise in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, she found out that she was 8 weeks pregnant. Listen to this segment to hear how and where she figured out that she was pregnant. She also shared how she surprised her older husband with the news. We discuss the options of testing for chromosomal abnormalities (chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis). Then we get into Alejandra's reality of having a baby, writing a book, and being an entrepreneur. I always like to know how people manage their time.

Overcoming Fibroids and Miscarriages Part 2 with Ana Karina Koper

This is a continuation of Ana Karina’s trying to conceive journey. In Part 2 of this episode, Ana Karina concludes how she made it to a natural pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby boy during the Covid19 pandemic in Guatemala.
From fibroids to miscarriages to birth of a healthy baby. In this episode, I spoke to Ana Karina Koper in Guatemala. She went from workaholic to momaholic! Her career was everything to her and she hadn’t thought about having kids until later in life. In Part 1 of this interview, we learn about the obstacles and tragedy she overcame. She was told she had less than 5% chance to have a baby when she was 40. She had 8 tumors, no frozen eggs, endometriosis and was told she had to do IVF right away. She jumped at the opportunity and to her dismay, she suffered in the process because the clinic lost her embryos. She is still fighting this clinic. She later met a Chinese doctor that informed her that as long as she had not reached menopause, she was still fertile. Ana Karina did her research and started doing natural therapies to help her get pregnant. Many doctors told her that there was a very low chance of having a child and that she should use a donor egg. She continued to try to have a baby with her own eggs. She didn’t give up. Listen to Part 1 and 2 of her journey and be inspired.
I hope this helps someone today. If you’d like to reach Ana Karina you can find her on Instagram @karinakoper. To reach me, you can email me at

Clean Inspiration with Katie

Clean Inspiration with Katie

I am speaking with new mom, Katie, who lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and 14 month old baby.  At 26 years old, after her engagement, she received the news that her mom had cancer.  Her mom was sick for 5 years before she passed and Katie was her primary caretaker.  Carrying the stress and witnessing her mom’s battle weighed heavy on her life and health.  Prior to losing her mother, she also lost her grandmother and then lost her grandfather.  She also lost her aunt and uncle.  Within a 9 year period she struggled with loss, including a miscarriage due to endometriosis.

At 39 years old, she was told to have IVF because there was no other way to conceive.  She decided to take care of herself, have the laparoscopy in order to diagnose and confirm what was happening in her body.  She was on a journey to reset her body.  Her health drastically improved when she began making changes.  In July 2019, she found out that she was pregnant and she held the pregnancy!  It took 9 years to conceive her healthy happy baby.

She is now a first time mom at the age of 41!

Katie has started a private group called Clean Inspiration to help others live a toxin-free lifestyle.

Take a listen and be encouraged by her story.

Do Older First Time Moms Behave Differently Than Younger Moms? (with Sarah Beeson) Part 2

Do Older First Time Moms Behave Differently Than Younger Moms? (with Sarah Beeson) Part 2

I'm back with Part 2 of my chat with Nurse and Author, Sarah Beeson.

Sarah Beeson is our guest in this episode and she is the Co-Author of "Happy Baby, Happy Family."  As a long time nurse, Sarah has a wealth of knowledge and has advised families for decades.  When her daughter and Co-Author, Amy Beeson, had her first baby, Sarah was inspired to write the book because she had a wealth of information that new moms found more useful than what they had been reading in other places. We had a candid conversation about Sarah's experiences with older first time moms. We look at the positive characteristics and she offers advise that gives comfort to any first time mom. She even has a message about Dads!

You can learn more about Sarah at sarahbeeson.org and email her at sarah.beeson.mbe@gmail.com.

Single and Having a Baby On Your Own with Heather Olivadoti

In this episode, I speak to Heather Olivadoti, about her choice to have a baby on her own.  She is a 41 year old, paralegal and her little bundle of joy is 8.5 months old.

Heather has always known that she wanted a baby. Without a partner at the advanced maternal age, she decided to have the baby on her own. In our conversation, she shares the importance of a strong support system to help her get through the good times and the oh-so challenging moments.

A study by investigator Mathilde Breweays from the Centre of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria of the VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam reported that "Single-mothers-by-choice and their children benefit from a good social support network".

Are you facing the decision to have a baby on your own?  Are you having a baby on your own and scared? Listed to what this mom has to say.

Baby Making and the Fear of Missing Out with Courtney Shane

Baby Making and the Fear of Missing Out with Courtney Shane

You have made it to your mid thirties or you're in your forties and childless.  You are not alone.  I think it is a global expectation that you get married, have kids and live happily ever after.  We all know that life is not this simple.  Life is a roller coaster and with all the choices and technology we have today, having kids is not everyone's first priority.  There are some things in life that we can change and then there are some things that we cannot change yet.  The female biological clock has an expiration date.  We don't know for certain how long our lady parts can bear children.  The bible says a woman named Sarah gave birth at 90 years old.  So if you're in your 50s, there is still hope.  But these biblical stories won't be taken seriously by the average person on earth today.  Medical doctors will tell you by the time you are the advanced maternal age (35 and beyond) your likelihood of carrying a child to full term is diminishing day by day.  These words will have a woman and her partner fearful in a heartbeat.

In today's episode, I talk to Courtney Shane, a married woman in her early 40s, whom spent most of her life as a lesbian.  She fell in love with a man for the first time and married him 5 years ago.  Bearing children hasn't been on her mind until a recent experience with her OB that now has her living with the fear of missing out on the opportunity to have children.  Listen in to learn more.

Help from a Lactation Consultant - Part 1

Help from a Lactation Consultant - Part 1

In this episode (Part 1) I talk to Kayellen, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.  She helps moms throughout the US on their breastfeeding journey.  Kayellen was very helpful for me during many nights that I went into a panic trying to figure out what I needed to do for my baby from infancy right through to even 14 months.  Since, breastfeeding doesn't come naturally for everyone and their baby, finding the right support is key.  Breastfeeding is healthy for both mom and the baby and the CDC guidelines recommend breastfeeding for at least 6 months.

For this 2 part series, Kayellen, shares with us the importance of having a Lactation Consultant, how maternal age affects breastfeeding, and if there is anything that older first time moms need to consider.

Are you a mom or expectant mom beyond the age of 35?  Older first time moms worried about lactation and breastfeeding can listen to this segment for information from an experienced Lactation Consultant.  Put your mind at ease and listen in.

I'm a first time mom beyond age 35 and interested in connecting with more moms in this demographic.  Parenting is rewarding and pretty scary at the same time.  Although, I am on this journey with my husband, I still want to connect with peers going through the same experience.  I think all mothers can relate no matter the age, however having children later in life comes with a an alternate set of complexities.  This first episode, I share my story and thoughts of being a first time mom beyond 35.
