Knowing When To Hang Up Your Boots...
I bid you good night and adieu... bang...
Stage Beauty
We are back. Thank you all for understanding!
Claire Daines and Billy Crudup star in this Patreon requested analysis of 2004's Stage Beauty! It uh... Well here it is. Maya Murphy and Bailey C Ellis talk with Ashley about this adaptation of a stage play about Shakespearean actors!
Sailor Moon
Kissing Cousins (only in English), Fish Eyes just wanna have fun, and "Gentle Uterus" attacks...
Yeah we're talking about Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon! Ashley welcomes back Vivian and welcomes Kat to the show to talk about the ICONIC property. Truthfully this can't be the final time we talk about Sailor Moon because in broad strokes we've only scratched the surface.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
It's "Is It Transphobic," time! Ashley is joined by Jonathan Alexandratos to talk about their love of and accidental/unintentional influence of Jonathan's journey as a nonbinary person!
King of the Hill: Peggy Horror Picture Show
Sorry all, thought this uploaded but I guess there was some issue... anytways!
Ashley welcomes back Hilary and her friend, writer JR Dawson to talk about '90s into early 2000s Fox TV Show King of the Hill. In particular the seaons 11 opener "Peggy Horror Picture Show," Where Peggy befriends someone named Carolyn! Carolyn turns out to be a drag queen and early 'oughts hilarity ensues... but was the comedy actually subversive like a lot of King of The Hill tends to be or did it miss the mark and just rely on the "Haha men in dresses," tropes?
Available now right here, publicly April 1st!
Youtube link below:
Community and Dan Harmon
Ashley is joined by her friend Jace in talking about the NBC/Yahoo (Remember when Yahoo tried to become a streaming platform?) show Community! Should this show and (problematic) Rick and Morty Co-creator get six seasons and a movie, or be relegated to the darkest timeline?
Special thanks to Rachel Weekley for handling the edit on this episode!
Ty Defoe Minisode Interview
I'm really excited to share my conversation with my (Producer Ashley)'s friend Ty Defoe. Ty and I talked the day after the inauguration of Joe Biden and that is reflected in the interview. We also chat about Ty being on Broadway, working with (#Icon) Kate Bornstein, and helping the craft the indigenous representation and public acknowledgement of the crimes, treatment, and genocides committed against indigenous people throughout history in the North American Continent for this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
TY DEFOE (Giizhig) is from the Oneida and Ojibwe Nations. He is an interdisciplinary-hyphenated artist, activist, writer, cultural worker, and shape-shifter. As a two-spirit person Ty aspires to an integral approach to artistic projects, social justice, indigeneity, and environmentalism. Ty gained recognition in many circles around the world including a Grammy Award for his work on “Come to Me Great Mystery.” Ty’s global cultural arts highlights are: the Millennium celebration in Cairo, Egypt with the Call for Peace Drum and Dance Company; Turkey for the Ankara International Music Festival, and Festival of World Cultures in Dubai. Ty’s frequents his own community where he learned to hoop dance, eagle dance, and play a variety of wooden flutes.

Come on, grab your friends... Or... maybe... don't? Ashley is joined by returning guest Kat and new to the podcast, author Crysta K Coburn to talk about Adventure Time S04 E 14 titled Princess Cookie!

Emmanuel Ortiz of Nerd Caliber Minisode Interview
Ashley sits down with Emmanuel Ortiz the creator of Nerd, Cosplay, and general pop culture media news network Nerd Caliber! Emmanuel is a cis ally and Ashley wanted to chat with Emmanuel because he has a lot of experience in content creation and in professional media, and because, Emmanuel and Nerd Caliber have created spaces to argue for queer and trans rights in popular and geek focused media, and they've been working together as friends for over a decade.
Ashley and Emmanuel recount some of the large highs and incredibly harsh lows of being in geeky media creation and coverage (Our chat talks about Emmanuel's experience dealing with racism in the industry, and we touch upon the time I was assaulted at NYCC which Emmanuel helped me deal with and you can read about here if you so choose), but more than anything Emmanuel and Ashley had a really fun conversation that she wants you to enjoy as well.
Check out a small curated playlist of me (from years ago) interviewing folks on Nerd Caliber!
If you'd prefer to listen on Youtube here is the link!
ALSO I'm trying a new software which generates transcripts SO this will be the first piece with a written transcript!
What episodes would you like to see adapted into a written transcript?
A Blade In The Dark
(CW: This film is about a man in a dress who murders)
We go from a movie which surprised and delighted us to a movie which... Exists. Ashley is joined once again by Morgan of Diversity Horror Blog and you can blame our other guest, Sammie James (Creator of Boo Haha, All My Friends Are Animals, and We Are Trans podcasts) for this one. A Blade in the Dark is an Italian Giallo horror film from 1983 Directed by Lamberto Bava. Morgan also wrote a fantastic multi-part article about trans representation in Horror (Which also talks a bit about A Blade in The Dark) for Morbidly Beautiful linked here.
Boy Meets Girl
Ashley is joined by returning guest Paola "PJ The Whip" Gonzalez and new to the podcast guest Mya Byrne to talk about 2014 (or maybe 2013, but according to Evilzon 2015???)'s Boy Meets Girl starring Michelle Hendley! Ashley found out about this movie searching for movies of questionable trans representation and... not to give away the episode but this is a delightful piece! There are definitely some problems, oh absolutely, but... wow! Hard to believe a lot of folks (Ashley) haven't heard of it!
Here's a link to it if you have Evilzon Prime
Here's a link to rent the DVD on Netflix
If you'd prefer to listen to episodes via Youtube: Youtube video
----------------------
TW/CWs for the Boy Meets Girl movie itself: The R-slur, Cringeworthy trans 101 humor, mentions of suicide, attempted violence against a trans individual.
Apologies for lateness, Patreon shoutouts will be in the publicly released version!
Nikki Woolfolk Minisode Interview
This month Ashley welcomes Proud Blerd and self-proclaimed Kween of the Side-Eye, award-winning author Nikki Woolfolk sculpts decadent desserts and fantastical fiction with equal skill and flair.
When they're not playing a never-ending game of "what if" in a writing space that's part DieselPunk, part Willy Wonka, they are drawing on their former STEM career and collection of quirky experiences to work up new recipes in the kitchen (tasting encouraged), designing their Goth-inspired garden (tasting decidedly DISCOURAGED), and mashing up real and fictional worlds on social media (virtual kitchen table is always open).
Nikki is also the Owner and Chocolatier of Belle Monde Chocolates. Belle Monde Chocolates crafts and delivers high-end confections, making these luxury flavors of chocolates and candies both affordable and accessible.
Check out Mise En Death today!
Thought I uploaded this, sorry folks!
Do Clowns Have Gender?
Ashley welcomes back Rachel Weekley, and their friend Aubrey, to the show to talk about their experience and a brief history of clowning and performance to ask the question: "Do clowns have gender?" We delve further into the performance aspect and character creation within clowning and how "expected androgyny," intersects with "Coded masculine," expectations.
(As a note some of the language being used by pundits include the phrases "Male body," and "Female body," which we do address in the episode)

Hello all! Thank you so much for supporting the Podcast!
Ashley welcomes her friend Seth Day from Rad Child Podcast as they both discuss a series of children's books about various trans and nonbinary issues when it comes to being or having a family member who is trans or nonbinary! This discussion is not expansive (Ashley wasn't even caught up when the episode was recorded) but multiple people, Jonathan included, were incredibly moved by finally feeling represented. Hazbin Hotel
Ashley and Morgan (of Diversity Horror Blog) talk about Hazbin Hotel, a cartoon show about Hell! It was announced in August that A24 optioned Hazbin Hotel to become a full series! With that of course comes scrutiny... But how does the pilot created for Youtube hold up to the issues presented? Let's jump in and figure that out!
From their website:
"Hazbin Hotel is the story of Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. She opens a hotel in hopes that patients will be "checking out" into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult film-star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the "Radio Demon" reaches out to Charlie to assist in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality. "
The Lost Boys
Cry little sister, love is with your brother. Today Ashley chats with Sylas and SA Hunt talk about late 80s classic Vampire flick The Lost Boys... But wait, there are no trans people in The Lost Boys... are there?
