Tom Dade wins the Unreasonable East 200 miler.
Welcome to the podcast! Episode 161 is another interview with Tim Dade. Tom has just run and won the unreasonable East 200miler (his first 200 miler by the way!!). This is a stunning course that tackles the best the Blue Mountains have to offer.With around 11,000m vert this is not an easy race. Tom managed it in 57 hours, 39 minutes and 57 seconds for an amazing finish well ahead of second.  The Unreasonable EAST 200 miler is the sister event to the Delirious West 200 Miler in Western Australia and the Irrational South 200 Miler in South Australia. Mental toughness for ultra-runners.
Hello and welcome back to the podcast! I hope your running and training is going well and if you are in Australia you are enjoying the cold weather, and we seem to be having a lot of it!! It’s been a busy couple of weeks for me. I ran the 42k at Wandi Cross. I ran this just as a training run and to have fun. I wanted to enjoy racing again without any pressure and boy I did. It was great! I loved the course: steep climbs, runnable downs and some steep slippery downs that ended up with me sliding on my butt! So much fun. Next up Ron and I are going to be sweeping the Surf Coast Trail marathon this weekend, so look out for us there! Down Under 135 special!
Welcome to the podcast! Episode 157 is a Down Under 135 special! DU135 is renowned for being an extremely tough race; it has a high dropout rate, tough cut offs and long finish times. This year was no exception, with only one finisher! First (and last!!) was Tom Dade in 53 hours and 8 minutes. This was 3 minutes quicker than last year in spite of it being 9 ½ kms longer, at 226.6km. This was an average pace of 14:04 per km. That pace sounds slow for a run, but for that course it is incredibly swift. And he did it with naps, so really his pace was faster! I’ve been on the course and that is just phenomenal. As an aside, he burnt a massive 22,235 calories!!! No wonder he lost weight, as you will hear. I also interview Adrian Bellin, an amazingly tough athlete who pushed himself incredibly hard out there on the course. He made it to the halfway point which as a first-timer is an unbelievable achievement. He tells his story, and it’s a good one. The race threw everything at them; steep ascents, slippery descents, off-trail sections and river crossings. I speak with Adrian and Tom to find out about their different race experiences. Cross training options for runners.
Hello and welcome to the Peak Endurance Podcast, I’m your host Isobel Ross. A bit about me to start us off! I am well into my taper now, and my volume has decreased significantly, just as I recommend in last weeks podcast. I too find tapers hard but I know how important they are and what a difference they make to how I feel on race day. I love training so it is hard for me to do less but fresh legs, body and mind are imperative on race day. This week I have been reading Matt Fitzgerald’s book: ‘Run Like a Pro (Even If You’re Slow)’ I am absolutely loving this book; honestly anything matt Fitzgerald writes is good. I love his style and how easy to read his books are, yet full of wisdom and knowledge. I am loving it so much I emailed him to see if he would be up for an interview about it and he, of course, said yes! So I will be interviewing him on the 18th May when I will be in recovery from DU and in Iso as I await surgery for a health issue from the start of Covid. So I will have lots of free time and will no doubt love the chance for a chat! I have recently started listening to Oprah Winfrey’s podcast ‘Super Soul’ And am enjoying the variety of guests she has on. What are you reading to and listening to at the moment? Deb Sharp: founder and owner of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

EMS provides first aid and emergency medical care to athletes in endurance races. Deb is a critical care registered nurse. She currently runs the medical emergency team for all code blue and deteriorating patients. She is trained in major incident medical management, hospital incident medical management and is the director and instructor for the Australian resuscitation council ALS programs, as well as director and instructor for TRAUMA core training and advanced wilderness life support. Karl Meltzer: 100 miles is not that far.

He recently won his 45th 100-mile race and has maintained a 20-year streak of winning at least one 100-mile race every year. He has the record for the most 100-mile wins during a calendar year with six in 2006, four of them record performances, the final four in a period of eight weeks. Ross Jenkin: The big 4 at 40

Ross is the first person to complete a continuous traverse of the UK’s four big mountain challenges: the Paddy Buckley Round in north Wales (47 summits); the Denis Rankin Round in Northern Ireland (39 summits); the Ramsay Round in Scotland (24 summits) and the Bob Graham Round (42 summits) in the English Lake District a total of 152 summits, with 387km (240 miles) of running and 31,800m (104,331ft) of ascent.
