Ford Invests $500m in Rivian

Ford Invests $500m in Rivian

Ford Motor Company invested $500m in Rivian this week, presenting an opportunity for the market leader in pickup trucks to collaborate with the first compelling electric pickup truck. Ford joined Amazon, who invested $700m back in February 2019, and Rivian have been clear that this does not affect their vehicles, the R1T truck and R1S SUV. Will the mainstream manufacturers pose a threat when they finally join the EV party wholeheartedly?

Downsizing and Collaboration

With everyone presenting their financial performance for 2018 and the winds of change from electrification and growing autonomy, there have been industry-wide announcements of redundancies, reductions and collaborations as companies look for billions in savings and shared investment in new core technologies. Is the industry on a downward spiral or will consolidation of the industry turn out to be a good thing?
