It starts with Action

By Presence
Everything starts with a thought; a "dream "; a "vision ". But if there's no action, the dream remains to be just a dream. Taking action towards your goal is straightforward but consistent action is another game on its own. What makes people successful? How did these people get themselves to take inspired action? What's their secret? This is what the podcast will be about. I want you to leave each episode feeling motivated and empowered to take action towards your dream. To not be afraid to dream big and shift your mindset from self-doubt to unshakeable self-belief.

About Suzy Batiz Transformation is the common thread that runs throughout founder and creator Suzy Batiz’s life and her companies. Episode 60 - It starts with Action : Imposter syndrome and getting work done
Life is about experimenting and making an impact even when you don't feel ready. I love interviewing guests and it's great to share their stories and learn from their experience but I still feel like I want to use the podcast to make a bigger difference. I like following people's journey and see them grow but I felt like I need more experience to start sharing my thoughts.  Imposter syndrome :)  I believe clarity will come after action so I'm going to add-in at least 2 solo podcasts a month about all sorts of topics related to taking action and personal development.   I was going to do some proper planning and structuring before but I found it just delaying the action. And oftentimes momentum starts from just doing it and then improving later.  Quick episode on my thoughts and experience of imposter syndrome as well as getting work done. I've talked to many people who have been struggling to do work during the lockdown including myself with certain university modules.

It starts with action podcast trailer
Let me ask you a Q, Are you taking action towards being the person you want to be and achieving the life you want to live, or do you find yourself delaying the action because of fear, lack of self-belief, discipline? My name is Presence and I'm really curious about the topic of ACTION. For everyone, there is something in life that they would like to do: a dream they want to achieve, a goal they want to reach. However, they aren't taking action. It starts with Action is a podcast all about picking the brains of action takers. People doing extraordinary things and living extraordinary lives. It's also about being real and having deep conversations with people who aren't taking action, understanding why, and finding the solution. It starts with action is also more than a podcast but a way of living. To me, action means living a life of awareness, confidence, tenacity, intention, openness, and now - i.e present. Whether you're looking to hear from inspiring leaders for tips or motivation, or someone who is stuck with the same problem you have and want to see how we find a solution together, or you like to listen to a 20-year-old share everything she knows and learns about living a life with of action, then this podcast is for you. I would really appreciate it if you share this podcast to people you know who will benefit, give a review on apple podcasts and follow me on Linkedin and Instagram for more inspiration. Remeber, whatever you're goal is - it starts with action.

Episode 44 : It starts with Action - How to talk about yourself and money / starting a business with Jordan Harry
You need to find a why that's big enough so the how becomes small - Jordan Harry Another great episode on the It Starts with Action podcast. Very insightful and we talked about many topics from starting a business to seeking support and money mindset. When you start a business you may often call yourself a ' start-up' ... what does that make you think of? New, less experience, small team, etc... why not just call yourself a business off the bat instead? How we talk about ourselves is really important and something I try to work on every day. How's your self talk doing recently? Money is also not talked about in schools, especially the mindset about money. There's nothing wrong with wanting money and this episode was a great lesson on how we should think and talk about it. Students may want to check out Jordan's online platform which helps students learn and read faster. The weekly calls have been very insightful so recommend students to get in touch!

It's likely you'll still get on that plane and get through the journey because you know the destination and travel experience would be worth it.   Grateful to have met Imisi who was my buddy on the Aleto Foundation leadership program, his entrepreneurship journey started when he was in year 3 - charging kids to play basketball with him ( interesting one ) to now growing his baby IAMEDIA.  His journey was insightful, it's not easy to have your work torn and be told that it sucks - he could have decided to give up but instead cherished the feedback and worked hard to improve.  His view of appreciating the fact that people use their energy to criticize you as a sign that they care is a great mindset to have and what really inspires me.  Listen to his story and valuable advice - link in comments

Episode 42 : It starts with Action - Learn to be still with Lindsay Lapaquette
Suck it up buttercup - a phrase Lindsay Lapaquette would hear regularly and is what I'm guilty of doing most times. It was great to talk to Lindsay about this topic. We bottle things up and we try to keep ourselves busy 24/7. Is it just me or wouldn't you agree this is a recipe for disaster? Sometimes we need to learn to be still with yourself and just let yourself feel all the emotions within. Often times it takes us to the breaking point or an accident before we slow down. It was inspiring to hear Lindsay's story of opening a business and deciding to shut it down and start over. We also talked about many other topics, one including taking on more opportunities when you have more responsibility such as family. I found it insightful because I always hear Gary Vee preach the idea of taking more risks during your 20s when you don't have responsibilities. Connect with Lindsay :

Episode 41 : It starts with Action - Action starts from believing with Tesse Akpeki , founder of the Wellbeing and Resilience Leadership Initiative
How do you shift from saying you believe in yourself to actually believing in yourself? Have you ever felt like you say you believe in something and you really wish you did believe it but at the same time in your heart you don't 100% believe in it? And other times when you 100% believe in something you just know and you feel a burning desire to take action to achieve what you believe in? It was a really interesting topic Tesse Akpeki and I discussed on the most recent episode. Another topic I loved was the power of being comfortable alone. It was during the conversation I remembered that I spent 6 months off school and I spent 99% of my time alone  ( had no friends so I didn't even text anyone other than family ) ... the experience made me learn how to enjoy my own company and develop more self-love as well as become my own best friend.   Another question Tesse asked which I'd love to know your answer - How is your weakness/challenge that you went through a gift? Comment your answer would love to know it :) I believe every struggle is a gift and a blessing because without it you wouldn't be who you are today. I'm also open to doing calls with anyone who have goals but are struggling to take action on them. If that's you send me a dm would love to chat :)  Contact :  Presence's Instagram Presence's LinkedIn It starts with action website

Episode 40 : It starts with Action - Never stop learning with Sam Lister
Fear drives action and action leads to direction and focus so fear can actually help us focus. It was great to hear Sam's story of how he started his entrepreneurship journey, from cutting grass when he was 14 to now having a thriving business at 20. We also talked about how entrepreneurship is a great personal development journey. His story showed to me that when you let yourself have no other option and never stop learning. You will find something that works.  I've always heard the phrase ' not going to uni will be a risk ' so when I hear Sam flip that and say ' going to university was a risk' it really got me thinking. It was a great episode, we also talked about how success in life has a lot to do with how many people do you know and how many people know you. Networking really is important :)  Instagram:  Facebook:  Twitter:  TikTok: @samxlister

Episode 39 : It starts with Action - it's never too late to take action with Kam Taj / Founder of Exam Success Academy
This podcast episode is one I believe all year 12s should check out ( and year 13s and university students and everyone XD because why not ) I met Kam Taj last year where he shared his story and tips when applying to Oxbridge. I really admired his genuine passion for helping students succeed and were also interested in the concept of coaching so we connected and this year I'm grateful to have him as my mentor as I navigate the coaching field. In the episode, Kam went really deep and shared how he went from struggling with academia to studying at Cambridge and feeling like he didn't belong. We talked about so many topics from studying to meditation, walks in nature, sleep, hustle culture, and happiness. One exercise Kam suggested that helped him make the decision to transfer from consulting to coaching was  looking himself in the mirror and asking the question : Is my younger self proud of who I am becoming? My answer is a HELL YES. And I'll be keeping this question in mind for the future always. Comment your answer and be honest :) Really is a great one for year 12s and 13s worried about applying to Uni/results day

Episode 38 : It starts with Action - Accept the imposter syndrome and take action anyway
Make friends with the imposter. Imposter syndrome. It's real and many highly established entrepreneurs still deal with it. It was great to talk to Caleb Dykema about this topic, we both have the same goal of helping people turn ideas into reality through taking action and we are both experiencing Imposter syndrome at this current moment. Is the imposter going to stop us? No. Is it going to stop you? No? Great ~~ Join the SWAG community, would love you to share your wisdom on how you deal with it. Yes? Great ~~ you aren't alone, check out the episode and turn the Yes to a No. And join SWAG. We also talked about other topics such as whether you need to have money to start a business :) nice one for entreprenuers~~

Episode 37 : It starts with Action - Direction leads to Action, find your purpose with Ola Sanni
Everyone has a gift and a tremendous amount of potential, those who think they don't just lack direction. Once they find it then they'll soar! Ola Sanni talked about how he found his direction and once he did he was able to focus and work hard towards achieving it. Ola also co-founded The Widening Access Network (W.A.N) to help young people discover what their direction is and what they are truly capable of. A question I assume everyone would have thought of at least once is - what's my purpose? Why am I even here? I don't know the exact answer but I can hint that it involves taking action :) Check out WAN :

Episode 36 : It starts with Action - Linkedin strategies and accountability with Joe Gannon
Joe Gannon dropped 2 very creative tips about how to use Linkedin which you'll have to listen to the podcast to find out ;) we also talked a lot about 🌟accountability and how to use it to help take consistent action. One simple example is just setting the scene before doing anything. I know when I wear workout clothes and listen to music... naturally, I would want to go for a jog or move.  ( the SWAG community was also created with the intention of keeping  each other accountable so if you're ambitious and seeking growth than do  join ) 🔥Comfort challenges are also good ways to prove to yourself that in the end, everything is ok and not as scary as you think :) Ask for a 10% discount on your meal or say no to everything for a day or two. Challenges like these help train the muscle in doing other things that you fear. 👀👀Joe has some special stuff coming soon, his youtube and content here are very helpful for Linkedin fans so check him out!

Episode 35 : It starts with Action - Vision boards and apprenticeships with Shola West
Real story - At the beginning of 2020 I put a treadmill on my vision board. Why? Because it's something I wish I had at home but also I knew there was a 0% chance because I didn't really need it and I only buy things that are absolutely necessary. COVID came. Wasn't allowed out for months and woke up 1 day with a surprise from my mum - a small treadmill ( although it nearly burst into flames 2 weeks later and got a refund, didn't end up replacing it ) Vision boards are not only fun but quite powerful when you look back and realize that some things actually came true so when Shola West mentioned vision boards on the podcast I was all hyped up and it was great speaking to her about it. We also talked about apprenticeships and not going down the university pathway. Whatever route you choose you will succeed as long as you choose to and have the right mindset and take the right action.

Episode 34 : It starts with Action - Building a personal brand with Ash Borland
The biggest question that always bothered me when I was 15 was why a white T-shirt with a logo costed 10 times more than one without; how did a workout video with no music and filmed with a phone get 7 million views while another with great lighting and music do worse. It was only this year that I paid a lot more attention to the topic of personal branding and its power. It is definitely a super interesting subject and I enjoyed talking to Ash Borland 🎬 about it on the podcast. It's no longer about the product, it's about the brand behind it. Ash's story was really interesting and has proved that we really can't predict where we'll end up in life. It can change and that's ok! Enjoy the journey and see where it takes you

Episode 33 : It starts with Action - Being vulnerable is a sign of strength not weakness with Sorochi
Vulnerability the key to courage. I used to be ridiculously scared about showing my vulnerabilities, I would never tell people about what was going on in my life and just bottled everything up to the point I broke. This was one of the topics Sorochi Eze-Uzomaka and I talked about in the latest episode. Why do we shy away from sharing the vulnerable side? Is it because of the view that vulnerability is courage in you and inadequacy in me? When we share what''s going on we may think we are showing up as being weak but when others talk about theirs we think they are strong and courageous. No one should shy away from sharing what's on their mind. If you have something bottled up, say it. You are not weak, you're showing a sign of strength. Episode 32 : It starts with Action - Design a life with Jordan Paris / host of Growth Mindset University Podcast
Set principles for yourself Jordan Paris and David Meltzer both set criteria to help them design a life: Make a lot of money💰; help a lot of people🌟, and have a lot of fun🏄🏼‍♂️ As an overthinker (overcoming it), I think this is a genius idea. To set yourself a few key criteria to help you decide whether you should take action on something or not as well as avoid doing things that don't really serve your short and long term goals. On the podcast, I couldn't think of the 4th but now I think  I would add " Is it a seek discomfort challenge that will lead to growth " If yes then I'll do it ... What're your criteria? It was great to get to speak to Jordan Paris, we talked about getting out of our shell, from being the quiet awkward kid to developing an interest in what constitutes good communication and questions. Oh, and of course, the education system :) Jordan's podcast Growth mindset university is all about teaching you what school doesn't. I always learn something new and recommend everyone to check it out if you haven't already! Check out Jordan Paris and his podcast :

Episode 30 : It starts with Action - Unleash your leadership potential with Erico Biscaro
I never thought I had any potential to be a " leader " ... but I really like the idea of coaching and being a coach... and from my training, I realized coaching is the same as being a leader. I love asking questions and learning what makes good questions so when Enrico Biscaro, MBA mentioned being a leader is about talking less, listening more and when you speak you ask questions I realized... actually maybe I do want to be a leader and it's something I've been reading more about lately. Episode 29 : It starts with Action - Action over perfection with Ryan and Josh - hosts of The 2% podcast
Action over perfection 🌟 As I learn to become more self-aware, I find one of the biggest reasons for my procrastination is wanting to do tasks to the point of perfection. I would think of a task and expect that it will be " perfect", feel overwhelmed and end up not starting at all. As I've learned to embrace failure and not having to be right all the time I've actually got a lot more things done and perfected the task over time. It was great to talk about this topic with Ryan McGee 🏠 and Joshua G. as well as many other topics such as social anxiety, university and the story behind their podcast - the 2% podcast

I was worried about missing my grades ... hopped on LSE's Q&A call... made a comment in the chatbox, Ejaz saw it, he could relate, found me on LinkedIn and our friendship began! The intention was to have him as a guest on the podcast but it seemed like he ended up as the host for this one. we went from talking about coding to prisoners to creating impact VS money, the stereotype of an LSE student, losing your identity, being alone, my life of uncertainty, my struggle of making friends, why we will never look down on anyone, etc... basically my life in raw form + Ejaz's perspective on the lessons from it It was a bit emotional but mostly full of laughter, jokes, and inspiration :) From jack's ( Ep 26 ) episode, we talked about owning your story and Ejaz gave me the opportunity to do so, thank you both!

Episode 26 : It starts with Action - Be authentic and own your story with Jack Parsons
Ask yourself, are you being authentic? Are you true to who you are? If not, why? How can you take off that mask? It was really insightful to learn from Jack Parsons about the topic of authenticity, we need to find our duvet flip and miracle morning to take our lives to the next level and we need to own our story. Everyone is going through something and no one should feel like they need to hide it. Also remember, everyone starts somewhere. If you want something you just need to start and take the 1st step! Episode 14 - It starts with Action : Change your life through chit chats with Lewis Alexander Baxter
One of the best ways to heal is simply getting everything out. Most people bottle things up, they think it's unimportant and unnecessary to share. Slowly but surely the little things build up to bigger insecurities and doubts and before you know it, you feel trapped and find yourself in a downward spiral. It was great to chat with Lewis Alexander Baxter about his experience of Depression. We both shared our rock bottom and both agree we wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for eventually spilling the beans. chit-chat  is an amazing platform for everyone who may feel like they want to spill the beans but perhaps feel uncomfortable to do so to people they know. It was really inspiring to see Lewis engage in so many charitable events to support people to better their mental health. Sometimes the first step to a new life is through 1 conversation. It definitely was the case for me :) talk to someone about your struggles with Lewis/founder of Chit Chat  Please do not bottle anything up, it builds up and could lead you down a deeper spiral. Introduction - The purpose of " It starts with action "
The purpose is for people leaving the podcast feeling inspired to take action on what they really want to but hasn't done so due to any barriers e.g limiting beliefs, fear of failure /perfectionism .. by bringing people who are doing what they want to despite perhaps having setbacks or doubts .. .personally, my story was taking action to recover from 5 years of anorexia and depression from Alopecia .. taking action is so straightforward but actually, it's also hard and often times people may feel stuck and choose to not take the action ... I want people to shift their mindset and go from self-doubt to having belief in themselves to go for what they want to achieve no matter how big or small.
