Nothing costs more than CHEAP! - Leaders Invest
Have you ever noticed the most expensive lessons in life were the ones you DID NOT invest in up front? We all love to get a good deal. The BOGO or even BOGO 1/2 Off is worth the trouble to “hunt down” the deal or bargain shop. But everyone is leery of the “something for nothing deal” or the “too good to be true” deal.  For the 15+ years I have been in entertainment it has been the same. Everyone wants to budget wisely for their event and most consider the MC an afterthought. After all, everyone has access to Spotify - right? And my cousin went to Toastmasters once, she can make all the announcements. Sure. That will save you some money up front, but what is the cost of a WEDDING DAY DO-OVER? When the playlist bombs and the announcer says something completely unprofessional you cannot undo that. Yes. This is just an example. We do a similar thing in hiring, in personal development, in leadership development for our teams. We buy used tires and get mad when we’re stranded on the side of the freeway - in August - in Texas - in Rush hour because of a blow out.  Listen. A worth while investment up front could save you TENS OF THOUSANDS down the road.  Leaders Invest In Themselves Because The Cost Of NOT Investing Is Too High! Take a chance and invest in yourself and in your team while the cost is small. You will find the PRICE is not nearly as high as the value.  If you are interested in the DEEPER CONTENT which is not free - visit www.jlorennorris.com/store or sign up on Patreon I will soon be offering exclusive content to patrons which is available NO WHERE ELSE.  Watch the video #LeadingLeadersPodcast 8-16-19.  LEADING LEADERS PODCAST with J Loren Norris providing daily leadership video lessons promoting faith, family and freedom for Tell It Like It Is TV .  Blog & Online Courses - www.jlorennorris.com/PODCAST Copyright 2019 Tell It Like It Is, Inc. Leadership Requires A Preponderance of Communication
Leadership is IMPOSSIBLE without authentic, accurate and clear communication. What happens when others work hard to muddy your communication and intent? From politics and media to parents and kids, from teachers and students to friends and family, there are thousands of voices clambering to be heard. Each voice is constantly shouting louder into the fray stirring up confusion over clarity. Many of these voices are well intentioned but lost in the crowd become nothing more than background noise. Some of these voices are misguided but firmly convinced they are serving a greater good. Some of these voices labor feverishly with malice of forethought to create further confusion, contention and to complicate issues. Mass media, social media and “peer media” all compete for attention and action. Everyday there is a new “tactic to gain customers or followers” and most of them require a new strategic use of social media platforms. Persuasive skills, communication tools and linguistic manipulation have become the norm in business, politics and education. Leaders must learn and master the power of consistent, accurate communication. Repetition, repetition and more repetition will be necessary to combat the voluminous amounts of misinformation and useless information. Leaders will only win this war with a persistent preponderance of truth. #leadingleaderspodcast  Tell It Like It Is TV with J Loren Norris LEADING LEADERS PODCAST with J Loren Norris providing daily leadership video lessons promoting faith, family and freedom for Tell It Like It Is TV .  Blog & Online Courses - www.jlorennorris.com Copyright 2019 Tell It Like It Is, Inc. What if equality is a myth?!
What if equality is a myth?! “Socialism is a great idea. It has never been a great reality.” Thomas Sowell I grew up with the idea “the rich get richer and the poor go broke and it’s the Rich’s fault.” I did not know until recently (studying Thomas Sowell) the idea originated in Marxism. Sowell goes on to talk about the conditions of the poorest of the poor and whether or not the natural occurrences of poverty can be compared with institutional causes of poverty. Fascinating discussion. He also makes a very important point around the notion of equality/ a return to equal standing. In noting the economic strength of former slaves grew at a rate greater than two times faster after slavery was ended and before “governmental policies intervened.” Asking a profound question: was liberty better than welfare? Dr. Jordan Peterson makes a strong point in this area of discussion when he asks “Can you tell me, before we debate the economic and political policies which could shape the world as we know it, is your room cleanly and neatly organized?” He goes in to draw the illustration which many of today’s youth seem to gloss over. You have equal power, rights and authority to clean up after yourself, manage your own belongings be they many or few, and to be ultimately responsible for your corner of the universe. If you fail or refuse to do so, why would the remaining portions of the universe want to follow your lead? Thomas Sowell says clearly, “I was a Marxist because it made sense... until I did my own thorough research.” Leaders need to understand: nature is not balanced, fair and equitable. Nature is harsh and unrelenting. Life is natural and expecting institutions to override nature to create equal outcomes will likely end in disappointment at best - catastrophe at worst. Don't Be A Bully - Lead With Love!
Don't Be A Bully - Lead With Love!  ARE YOU A BULLY? I was recently talking with a client about their work environment. It is amazing how drastically the work place has changed in the last few decades. In similar fashion to the #meetoo movement what was once widely acceptable and expected in the way of conversation is no longer tolerated. You simply cannot talk to people like that any more! In short, if you have not changed your communication style and word choices since your first job out of high school in 1975, you should be updating your resume and your sensitivity training at once. Ironically, geography may be the determining factor in some language and terminology decisions. As an example, in the south (Bible Belt) the use of profanity is considered offense except under extreme conditions. Referring to people or addressing them with profanity might we be fighting words and land you in serious hot water for disrespect or even insubordination. However, you could be fired or worse for using the wrong pronoun if you work in Seattle, San Francisco or similar minded locals. You should know this if your job requires travel. You might be a bully and not even know it. Seriously. Bottom line is this: Bullying is ABOUT HOW OTHERS FEEL when the encounter is done. LOVE is accepting, forgiving and appreciated by ALMOST everyone. Leaders should approach everyone with love, respect and dignity whether you agree with their lifestyle, their logic or their lingo or not. Lead with love. Leaders Handle Rejection Wisely
Leaders Handle Rejection Wisely What if rejection could alter your future from your past? Would you want to crush rejection now? Many leaders, myself included have struggled with rejection in the past. We have felt the sting of betrayal. We have know the emptiness of abandonment. We have lived with the bitter taste of mockery and comparison after a relationship ended wrong. The results of rejection are as multiplied and varied as are the causes. Anger. Hostility. Resentment. These emotions often lurk just beneath the surface for those familiar with rejection. Sadly, one major result of rejection is the attachment to self worth which cause the question: “Am I really any good for anything anyway.” Worse yet is when this question of self worth causes ya to go on the offense and reject others before they can reject us. What a vicious cycle of destruction that can be. If you have been rejected, whether as a leader or before, you need to learn to view yourself differently. You need to adopt a healthy and balanced view of yourself and to focus on the good you bring to others. Finally, practice a more open acceptance of others in order to break the cycle. Are there really only two types of leaders?
Patrick Lencioni #GLS19 said “there are only two types of leaders: SERVANT LEADERS and those who want something REWARD SEEKING LEADERS.” Which one are you? Do you offer yourself for the betterment of others? Do you give beyond your title, your role and your Nolen benefit? Do you do the work which seems “beneath you?” If so, you are likely a servant leader. If you want leadership roles in your life because of the “fun”’of the notoriety, the power and authority you wish to exercise over others and the fat paycheck... you might be a reward seeking leader. I encourage you to get Patrick’s book and do more homework on the issue. But let me suffice it to say this: Leadership requires a right heart, right motives and right thinking about others. There are loads of selfish people in this world with selfish motives. There are also loads of people with a right heart who want to help others. The latter will rise to the top in influence with our without the title of LEADER on their name plate or resume. Be that kind of person. Ho Do You Demonstrate Presence?
What do you demonstrate? Is it intentional? Is it dynamic? I have been working with a client who is developing a new training program around advanced communication skills. When she has rolled it out to the public for the first time, I will make sure you have access. It’s going to be really powerful. One of the aspects we are sharpening together is the power of proper demonstration and it strikes me today that many of us demonstrate without intent. Let me say that in the John MAXWELL way “People do what people see.” Many leaders and communicators demonstrate through unspoken emotions what they would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS say out loud especially on purpose. Just remember how often your presence enters the room before your body does, before your words do. Be intentional about HOW you enter. That’s all I have to say about that - watch the video and be ready to seek out 4D Connections with Laurel Rolls after September 15th when the public has first access. Why is that even a law?
Is there such a thing as an outdated idea? Where do rules and laws originate? Are they always just? Do we ever outlive bad ideas?  This is a serious question which I believe requires serious thought. I also believe there is a movement in human evolution which drives against any rule or law for perceived freedom, liberty and independence which is actually a different form of bondage and slavery. Trading one slave master for another is not freedom. Have you ever asked “Why was this rule or law created to begin with?” “Who was behind the creation of the rule?” “What purpose did enforcement of the rule serve?” I know this is a heavy topic which demands much thinking and discussion and 5-8 minutes is simply not enough time. But if we cannot begin this discussion among leaders, who will discuss it? If we don’t apply some time to addressing the rules we live by, one day well have no rules and we will live by anarchy. Who is the LEADER'S Boss?
Who does the President serve? Who does the Soldier serve? Who do all elected officials serve? “The Oath of Office: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” As Americans of the United States, live under a form of government nearly 250 years strong. Not a democracy in the truest sense, not a totalitarian government, not an oligarchy or anarchy but we live in and serve a representative republic. The soldier, the law enforcement officer, most elected officials take the very same if not extremely close to the same oath of office as the President of the United States. Notice the last line... That’s right, the Constitution. WHY?!? Because in the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, MEN (and women) ARE CORRUPTIBLE. They can be “bought”. They can be persuaded, manipulated and mislead. They can be bribed, threatened and held hostage until their minds are changed. The constitution does not suffer the same fate. It is beyond threat - except by those who refuse to trust it and abide by its policies. Great leaders require a common value system which supervises their own decisions. A value system and set of ideals which supersedes their own opinions. For a corporation those are bylaws and charters. For non profit organizations they will be similar. For religious institutions there are Holy Books and ancient texts. When humans abandon ideals which have been tried and true, anarchy ensues. Anarchy is the worst form of democracy - mob rule, no one wins! Leaders need to commit to values, principles and ideas and stick to them at all costs. The time tested ones have stood the test of time for a reason. LEADERS MUST BE WILLING TO FIGHT CORRUPTION
What is corruption?  What should Leaders do about it?  Especially in the world of politics corruption is a serious resource problem. Corruption is a mismanagement of resources; Human Resources, natural resources, financial resources and relational resources. When these things are mismanaged or manipulated for personal goals or personal gain, corruption can destroy entire national economies.  Sadly, such corruption does not stop with high level government officials. Corruption effects businesses of all sizes, churches, families and communities. Even high school football teams and peewee t-ball teams can be crushed by corruption.  Leaders need to operate with an extreme level of integrity to avoid corruption. Leaders must also be willing to challenge and “call out” those who are practicing corruption. GREAT LEADERS DO THE RIGHT THING.
GREAT LEADERS DO THE RIGHT THING. Poor leaders not only DON’T do the right thing, the teach and reinforce doing the wrong thing. Customer service is a critical skill, especially in retail where every day is a new handful of customers. Generally speaking this includes honesty, integrity and character. Fair pricing, consistent treatment and a willingness to admit wrong. Recently I had what I can describe as a less than pleasant and surprisingly poor representation of these qualities. Not only from the first line clerk but from the entire “chain of command” did I receive lies, threats, dishonest negotiation and an utter lack of concern for DOING THE RIGHT THING. Sadly, I am convinced, all of the tactics they tried to used would have worked on 70% or greater of their normal client base. Playing on the ignorance or unawareness of your customers IS NOT GOOD LEADERSHIP to train your staff and it’s pitiful customer service. Watch the video if you want to know the story. Leaders are responsible for focus and perspective by J Loren Norris
Pay attention to Field of Focus. Depth of Field & Perspective. We already know “you will get more of what you focus on.” That’s why we teach young drivers not to stare at the oncoming head lights - you will unintentionally drift into them. We also know perspective matters. How you look at things changes the magnitude of the thing - position, angle and light play huge roles. Finally, we also know the distance we place between ourselves and the subject makes a huge difference in the detail we can detect. All of these ideas are true visually, but have you ever considered the mental, psychological and emotion ability to do the same? Leaders must manage focus, perspective and detail in their communication and relationships. How you are perceived and what others focus on will be largely determined by the details you reveal to those closest to you. Rejection Is An Attitude Which Derails Destinies
REJECTION IS AN ATTITUDE! Don’t let rejection or the fear of rejection derail your destiny. By definition attitude = thoughts + feelings. Rejection is how you feel when the thoughts of others influence your thoughts of yourself. Parents feel rejection when their kids rebel.  Teachers feel rejection when students don’t progress.  Coaches feel rejection when teams don’t thrive and win.  Bosses feel rejection when their employees mock, deride and undermine them.  Leaders feel rejection when their ideas are not adopted and activated toward success.  Everyone feels rejection when they compare themselves to others... usually we compare our worst to their best - or their illusion of best - and we see ourselves coming up short. It is the FEAR OF REJECTION which becomes an attitude in the way of our destiny. It influences our decision making, relationship building, risk taking and day to day confidence or resolve. Your destiny could be stolen from you by the fear of rejection whether the actual rejection is real or imagined. The same is true of those you love and those you lead. They crave and need your acceptance. They need to know that even if they fail miserably you still support their effort and encourage the best intent in them. Your words of positivity and your loaned belief could be the very asset they need to push past the fear and find their greatest dreams realized. Don’t let rejection derail your dreams, your destiny or the destiny of those you lead. Leaders Must Master The Art of Friendliness
“I am not your friend, I am your boss.” This Attitude has gone the way of the dinosaur. Friendliness is a top trait to exercise for leaders. To be absolutely clear: friendliness and friendship are not the same. But tyrannical dictatorship and leadership are not either. There remains a need for proper protocol and protection of information while maintaining respectful and respectable relationships. As AI continues to grow at a break neck pace and threatens to replace every human interaction from ordering a Big Mac to hiring an Uber, how you get along with other humans will be critical. Friendliness with absolute strangers and camaraderie with coworkers will be essential to success as the day of machines dawns around us. Who you can trust as real and authentic will become more and more challenging. Begin now to entertain and express interest in other humans. They are without a doubt the most valuable capital investment you can make as a leader. Make friends. Be transparent. Be vulnerable (but wise). Build trust. Lead strong. Privilege? Or perseverance, priority and persistence?
Privilege? Or perseverance, priority and persistence? Yes, some people have an easier start to life than others. Some find themselves in better circumstances from birth due to decisions made by their parents and grand parents. Sometimes those circumstances were imposed upon them by culture, societal norms, and demographics. Sometimes those circumstances were based on educational limitations, access to education or even a limited ability to learn, retain and apply education. But for every single person where this is the case, there is another for whom the circumstances started off very similar and the outcome was drastically different. WHY!?!?!? Determination. Persistence. Commitment. Priorities. Patience. Humility. Work ethic. In short D E C E S I O N S.  CHOICES. Leaders must make choices, influence choices and expose opportunities for what the truly are, decisions. Are you disillusioned? What illusion were you under to begin with?
Are you disillusioned? What illusion were you under to begin with? How many ways have you been deceived? How many times have you been deceived? Are your eyes playing tricks on you? Or has the trickery been intentional on someone else’s part? Truth is we all have a loose relationship with what we “know to be reality!” Whether by trickery, deception or just wishful thinking, what IS TRUE is often different from what we hold to be true. Often the difference is a simple as ignorance and by that I mean limited knowledge or awareness.  Spending some time in self discovery and reflection is very helpful. Spending time observing others and asking them genuine, curiosity based questions is another way to remove perceptions, deceptions and masks.  If you are a leader, the truth is well worth pursuing. Know the truth. LEADERS PREPARE FOR COSMIC APPOINTMENTS
If you have ever missed an appointment, you know the anxiety which follows.  LEADERS PREPARE FOR COSMIC APPOINTMENTS How long before I can reschedule? Will this person still trust me to show up after this? How can I prove my trustworthiness in this relationship? Will they hire me now?  If you miss the port call when the cruise ship leaves, you have a long swim home. The captain is very concerned about your well being when you are on board, but if you decided to stop at one last shop at your shore excursion, all the excuses in the world won’t get you back on the boat once they have set sail.  You might have missed an appointment with a prospective employer, employee or client. You might have missed an appointment in time which only the cosmos was aware was a possibility or potentiality at that very moment, in that very place.  Keeping your commitments goes way beyond punctuality. Keeping your appointment commitment is a rendezvous with destiny hanging in a serendipitous balance of opportunity.  Leaders must keep their appointments. Leaders Look Deep Inside For Their Greatest Gifts
What is your most valuable asset? Education? Experience? Bank Account? Friends?  Leaders need to be willing to look deep inside if they are “treasure hunting” to discover the value of themselves.  It’s not your education but how you apply it. It’s not your experience but how well you can convey the lessons learned for someone else to employ. It’s not the bank balance but the ways in which you give and invest in others with the resources. It’s not your friends nor their celebrity but the value you bring to them which makes connections an asset.  Beliefs drive more action than anything else. What you believe to be your assets will get time and attention. What you don’t believe to be your assets will get little attention and little action.  Deep introspection is required for leaders to discern what we truly believe to better align our actions and assets. Without a deep dive, we risk not delivering to the world all we have to offer to meet the immediate needs and demands. Leaders Learn To Manage Fear + Pain Because Anger Destroys Culture by J Loren Norris
What makes you angry? Or what is anger? Leaders need to know both answers.  The nature and climate of our current culture is a fascinating part of human evolution. The rate at which society is changing and the factors which are causing it might blow your mind.  Anger. Frustration. Finger pointing. Outbursts of rage. Violence (in the streets and in the work place). Distrust. Jealousy. All of these are expressions of emotions out of control. And dare I say they are intentionally provoked by some for financial gain and others for political gain.  This is a problem. Fellow JMT leadership coach and crisis intervention specialists Veronica Sites knows better than I do the impact unresolved conflict has on the work environment. But I can tell you this: much of the problem we face in culture wars today stems from a lack of personal accountability, an inability to control our emotions, unfettered license to misbehave without consequences and the common thread of such behavior all around us.  As leaders, we need to get a grip. First on our own emotions, second on an understanding of what is provoking those we lead and how to counter it.  My friend and licensed Counselor Brady Daniel will tell you Anger = fear + pain.  If you can discover what causes your team fear and pain you can abate the anger before it causes damage.   Leading with compassion is required now even more than ever before. Leaders Learn The Strengths Of Their Team
What are the strengths and talents of the people you lead? If you don’t know, how can you hope to lead them well? It might seem when you encounter a great leader that you have met a mind reader. Chances are you have met someone who is intuitive toward and compassionate about the people they lead. They have “done their homework” about the people around them. They understand the motivations, curiosities, concerns and meaning which drives them.  If you lead others, take time to utilize tools which analyze and provide a snap shot look at the hearts and mind of the people you lead. #CliftonStrengths is a great tool for understanding your people. It is one of my favorites. #DISC is also a great insight into the way people think and respond to various engagements. If you are not sure where you are as a leader, John Maxwell Team has created a powerful assessment tool to get a barometer of your own strengths and weaknesses. The Leadership Game is another tool which make learning fun. If you are interested, ask me, I can connect you to people who are Certified to employ each of these tools.   I recommend you employ these tools as soon as possible. Know your people. Know yourself. Know your paths to successful leadership. #LeadingLeadersPodcast Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash LEADING LEADERS PODCAST with J Loren Norris providing daily leadership video lessons promoting faith, family and freedom for Tell It Like It Is TV .  Blog & Online Courses - www.jlorennorris.com Copyright 2019 Tell It Like It Is, Inc. A Great Leader Is A Mental Chef
WHAT LEADERS DO: An analogy. While we all enjoy the feeling of eating a good robust meal, we don’t all have to time prepare one.  If you consider the time, effort and expense of harvesting the meats or proteins, the veggies, the fruits, the grains necessary to complete your nutritional food pyramid for one meal, your mind would already be exhausted.  But you still must cut and slice and dice and season and cook or chill this harvest to create a “dish”.  Seriously, it is the reason fast food or restaurants stay in business. WHO HAS TIME FOR ALL THAT?!? Someone must gather, prepare and deliver what keeps us alive if we are going to be productive in so many other areas of life.  A leader must be able to gather, harvest, process, prepare and deliver insight, information, education, expectation and more. If your team is busy “getting the real work done” you should be busy preparing the “meal of personal growth” for them.  Gather the data, harvest the best ideas, season then with synthesized understanding, marinate them in useful application and deliver them in delectable bite sized morsels to be devoured on the fly. Lead like a mental, emotional chef.  That is the role of a leader. Passion without process is poison. Let that sink in to your business plan for a minute.  How many people have you encountered who have a great passion for their business or hobby but attack their passion with no systematic approach and no help? Like a kitten in a paper bag violently running one side to the other, struggling against imaginary barriers, becoming exhausted with all the effort yet success eludes them.  Perhaps you have experienced the same battle. Working feverishly to “do it yourself” as though proving you can succeed alone is more import than the magnitude of your success.  I believe it happens for one of three reasons.  1. We refuse to share the glory of success with anyone else. We would rather have 100% of nothing than 20% or millions.  2. We don’t have the trust or tolerance needed to partner with others in the work we must do.  3. We have no actual plan or system to get the work done so we run ourselves crazy with overwhelm trying to prove our worth to everyone else. Often to realize the people we were trying to impress weren’t even paying any attention.  Take some time to develop partnerships where you can develop a plan and divide the load or you will soon find yourself in burnout.

Leaders Train RAS and Attitudes Intentionally
Training your own RAS is the beginning of neuroplasticity. Effective Leaders do it well and often.  Your memory and recall are not the same. Scientists now tell us we technically never forget something we experience. The question is, can we intentionally and selectively recall the information when we need it? Can we CHOOSE NOT TO RECALL the information which does not serve us well?  The connection between the MIND and the BRAIN is one thing. The connections between the BRAIN and the rest of the BODY is something entirely different. Stress hormones, emotional energy, inflammation, sweaty palms, nervous stomach, these are all biofeedback markers which often warn us of highly stressful or intense situations. Sometimes however we find our body responding with these markers, when the situation does not warrant them. WHY? Because something in our subconscious past has been triggered by the other senses in our body and released the emotional sequence inside without regard for what we are consciously thinking about.  A old friend calls and a flood of emotions rise up in you. A feeling of euphoria or nostalgia my overwhelm you. Likewise a boss or a bully from years back could cause a negative sequence of emotion and hormones such as rage or frustration.  By training the RAS in advance, you can better predict the emotional responses to suit your day.  Watch the video for more. Leaders beware! Apathy leads to atrophy!
Leaders beware! Apathy leads to atrophy!  If you get careless as a leader, soon enough you couldn’t care less.  It’s easy to get wrapped up you your own drama. What’s going on at home, in family relationships, in personal finances and forget about the deadlines and challenges at work. The opposite is true as well sometimes we are so focused on work we seem uncaring about all those other relationships outside of the bottom line.  Remember this, the rest of your team is made up of humans too.  When we get cloudy in our focus on others, we forget they also have lives and needs and families and personal drama. A myopic leader doesn’t have the capacity to care about those problems in someone else’s life.  If you allow yourself to compartmentalize issues in order to steer around them you may seem uncaring. If you allow that perceived apathy to stay, others will eventually become convinced you you care about them at all. Soon, you will not be kept in the loop. You won’t know when a team members os truly hurting or in trouble in some way.  Don’t lose focus on goals and objectives, but remember to care for and about the people you lead while you still have the right and opportunity to do so. Leaders do what must be done. Not what their title decrees.
Leaders do what must be done. Not what their title decrees. How often have you seen a real leader look down on a job or task? How often have you seen a power hungry manager with a title do the same? Generally a real leader knows they MUST DO what MUST BE DONE because the team goals and team success matter far more than the prestige of the title leader.  If you are a leader. Lead. Don’t wait. Don’t watch. Don’t wonder. Don’t wander. Lead. Get busy doing the right thing. Others will follow your lead before they will follow your commands.

Leaders Learn From America's History
Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Those who DON’T LEARN HISTORY have little choice. As we celebrate America’s Birthday and Independence I want every leader of every level to reflect for a moment and ask yourself “have I actually searched beyond what I was intentionally taught to discover the truth?” Now I am not necessarily claiming a conspiracy theory, but as an American Veteran, I know I am still discovering things about my country’s history which I did not learn in school and did not stumble across in daily life.  As I have spoken with friends who are naturalized citizens, I realize how few people born in America could have passed the citizenship test.  I travel with a team to teach leadership and democracy to leaders in other nations. There are a few people on the team who are former political leaders of enormous stature. There are historians, professors and religious leaders. I learn from them EVERY TIME!!  It is true, leaders are readers. If you don’t learn history, how could you ever learn from history?   Celebrate July 4th with gusto! Have a family picnic, go fishing, camping, imbibing or how ever you choose to celebrate, just remember those who sacrificed EVERYTHING for you to have the privilege and get to know the WHY behind their sacrifice. #leadingleaderspodcast Learn More From Historian David Barton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjtE_4IA70I&feature=share&fbclid=IwAR26ti0ZINYCKrgXd1GWRsx-SjNlp0c2YnsFapuYmiH6_TfWpPjBnBMgCBQ Photo by Anthony Garand on Unsplash

A great Coach Will Only Work IF You Do
The best coach in the NFL cannot win the Super Bowl without a team of players who follow the game plan, do their homework, and execute the play calls with excellence.  No executive coach, life coach, leadership coach or communication coach can bring you or your organization to a greater level of success all alone either.  Many of the better coaches and mentors I have worked with as peers or as mentors and coaches I have hired to improve me, now have “responsibility clauses” in their agreements. The purpose of the clause is to point out this simple fact, EVEN THE BEST IMPROVEMENT PLAN ONLY WORKS IF YOU DO!! If you don’t have a coach, mentor or advisor in your life you might need to consider the investment. The value of a third party objective opinion is priceless.  To find someone who is committed to your growth and success, willing and qualified to invest in you, and able to draw the best out of you is a goal to be achieved.  You deserve to remove the blind spots, improve your relationship skills, develop your vision, understand your own deep seated beliefs and be free of the baggage other wounded people have left at your doorstep.   But even with the best coach, you will still have work to do. Develop a plan. Work the plan. Give First To Remain Relevant & Build Friendships
Connections require conscientious commitment. Selfishness and self awareness are not compatible.  Many people in business for themselves attend networking events to meet new people in an attempt to grow their business.  One challenge I see for many people, myself included is keeping the focus on BEING RELEVANT FOR OTHERS! When we attend such functions with a focus on what we can get, we lose sight of the bigger picture. When we focus on whose life we could impact positively we find huge opportunities to grow and expand our network even further.  I can tell you for certain, the business connections and friendships which have expanded my circle of influence from my own neighborhood to international speaking opportunities have all come from GIVING of myself freely rather than trying to eek some new business. Leaders must clearly communicate expectations.
Leadership demands a feedback loop. Managers and employees alike need to know where they stand.  Expectations like communication are all too often left at the door. Meaning everyone assumes they have been expressed, received and understood when they have not.  It is hard to live up to unknown expectations. As a result, there is an impression of failure on the part of the employee, student or team mate who did not accomplish the task to meet the standards never understood. This perceived failure often leads to a harsh and less than flattering review. This less than flattering review leads extended poor performance, employees disgruntled with management and eventually to employee turnover.  This same frustration is directly impacting the bottom line. WHY? Because the expectations were not clear. The feedback loop included a pronouncement and possible punishment of missing a misunderstood goal or expectation.  If you are a leader, expectation is your role! Be clear about what your expectations are. Be fair about what your expectations are. Celebrate every small accomplishment toward those expectations. #leadingleaderspodcast Visit www.jlorennorris.com/podcast for the video of this podcast. Photo by You X Ventures on Unsplash

Marketing to your niche media.
Niche marketing is a daunting task. What is my niche? How do I reach them? How do I build know, like and trust with them? Who do you like to do business with? My guess is your reflexive answer is “people who have money to pay me for what I do!!” That is likely true, but wouldn’t you also agree, there are certain types of people you so enjoy working with you would almost be willing to serve them for 1/2 the price? Would you also agree you have had customers you would like to charge 500x the regular price just so they won’t call you again? No payment is worth the headache some customers bring you. Right? One other truth about finding “good clients” is the plethora of marketing and advertising mediums and modalities we are confronted with today. How do you stand out as one among billions? It is for this reason Susan Hamilton founded Offbeat Business Media and Offbeat Business Alliance. Watch the video to understand better.

Leaders Are Sharpened In Community
Sharpening requires FRICTION. No axe, knife, razor can have a refined edged without friction so it is as a leader. Friction comes in community and culture. When we surround ourselves with people who rub us the wrong way we have an opportunity to be sharpened. Leaders must be willing to ask the tough questions, not of their team, but of themselves. Am I leading well? Am I caring for others in my charge? Am I compassionate? Am I willing to learn? Am I correctable? In community you can be sharpened ONLY if you give people permission to answer those questions for you, with honesty. Who do you allow to correct you?

Do you play peek-a-boo with your own success?
Are you playing peek-a-boo with your own success? We all hide from what scares us most. Sometimes we hide from what we love too. We cover our eyes then close them right and almost in disbelief open them again is astonishment. Leaders are often held at bay of their own success because they feel undeserving. Oh they want the success. They crave the end of the struggling. They long for a day when finance is not the biggest worry. They hunger for the one chance to say “I MADE IT.” At the same time, they hide behind today’s minuscule challenges and make excuses for fake failure. How do I know? Because I’ve done it. I do it. Why don’t we run full force with all we have toward the dreams and goals which light up our heart? Why don’t we listen to those around us when the encourage us? Why don’t we leave fear in the dust and proclaim with gusto and determination HERE I AM? Oh yeah - THERE SHE IS - THERE YOU ARE!

FOOD POISONING AND FAILED LEADERSHIP HAVE SIMILARITIES
What if it doesn’t belong there? What if you introduce a “foreign body” into your culture or environment? The same thing which happens in the human body. The violent reaction of infection, illness, rejection which is designed within the astounding physiological machine we abide in is just like the reaction a culture experiences to something which doesn’t belong. As leaders at any level, you must be on guard to protect and curate ideas, phrases, practices or habits which are contrary to the stated vision and practices of your team. Furthermore, you must guard your own mind, emotions and choices with the same level of violent reaction to what does not belong. Finally, you must guard your team against team members who desire to wield influence not consistent with the team culture, vision and purpose. Otherwise, there will become an internal revolt. The system will malfunction, rest will be sapped away, functionality will be significantly reduce and productivity will grind to a halt. Like the food you eat, the words you hear, the thoughts you entertain and the people you allow to influence you will all have a profound impact on your balance and wellbeing.

Thinking Converts Vision To A Strategic Plan
Leaders must clearly express a strategic plan for others to follow. Do you have a vision for yourself, for your team, for your goals?? It’s needed that a leader have a vision. It is required that a leader have goals. But while a powerfully compelling vision and a set of SMART goals will get a leader moving in the direction of result, a solid strategic plan is required for others to participate. How clearly have you laid out the plan to achieve the goals? How well do team members and those contributors outside your team understand their role? Have you articulated the role, activities and expectations for each individual who will bring this vision to life? This may not yet be a white board planning session or video conference with every participant - IT MUST BE FIRST A CONVERSATION IN YOUR MIND. If you have not thought it through and meditated on the execution of the dream or vision - it is still not more than a wish. GET BUSY THINKING LEADER!

What Happens When Leaders Skip a Step?
What happens when you skip a step? “How bad could it be?” Right? There is power and purpose in the process. Sometimes the process is the purpose more than the completed project. Short cuts and hacks abound in today’s instant millionaire world of social media gurus. Everyone has an easier way, a path to riches, a faster way to get the thing done - whatever the thing is. Trust me when I say, skipping a step could prove fatal. Take time to evaluate the process and review every step. It is often the smallest piece or part which carries the highest price when over looked.

This audio course will inspire and instruct you to create a vision which will become a significant driving force in your life. It is my passion to help you find your purpose. I want to see you become successful, but more than that to be free! Without vision people perish. Without vision, we seem to be lost, mind numb robots following the herd into the abyss that is everyday life. We do not live intentionally without a vision for our future. We do not live passionately without a vision for our future. We do not live productively without a vision for our future. We certainly cannot lead without a vision for our future and a vision for the future of those we lead.
