Being Fearless with Jackie Robbins

Being Fearless with Jackie Robbins

By Jackie Robbins

Welcome to the Being Fearless podcast! In this podcast we work on facing our fears, so we can live our best lives, unapologetically! I grew up with a chronic illness (ulcerative colitis) and for most of my life I allowed it to define me, hold me back, and quite frankly I lived in fear of all the things. I had severe anxiety and it ruled my life. I finally decided enough is enough and dove into the world of personal development and here we are! There is power in facing your fears! The truth is the only person holding you back is you. It's okay to be scared. Do it anyway!

Surviving the Holidays!

Surviving the Holidays!

This episode is a 2 parter! In the first part I'm telling you how you can re-wire your brain to not be negative. As a society we are almost wired to focus on the negative, to focus on what we don't have, but by doing that you are creating a negative life and no one wants that! Gratitude can change your life! Trust me!

I also give you my tips on surviving the holidays! Spoiler: you can't do everything! Throw guilt out the window and do the things that bring you joy! The holidays should be fun! Don't make yourself crazy!

Bella Figura: Living your best life

Bella Figura: Living your best life

In this episode I talk about my recent trip to Italy. This year is the year of Bella Figura! In Italian that translates to beautiful figure. It's all about looking and feeling amazing and living your best life. It is also about dignity, hospitality, and politeness. AKA being a good person! We need more of those in this world. I'm telling you about some of the places I went and how different the culture is. Italians don't feel pulled to be busy all the time. The don't think being busy is a badge of honor. They enjoy taking their time and savoring life (and food! so much good food). In turn I came back and made a small life change to not feel so busy all the time. I also discuss the shame I do to myself when I don't feel productive of busy!

I went to Italy SOLO, and that had been a fear of mine that I got to conquer. I booked a solo tour through Go Ahead Tours and I highly recommend them. If you need info shoot me a message Instagram: @beingfearlessjax

I'm BACK! Let's be FEARLESS!

I'm BACK! Let's be FEARLESS!

I took an abrupt hiatus and in this episode I talk about why. The short answer: I didn't feel I was inspiring and had nothing to say. Sometimes we just need a break. I fill you guys in on my on going pelvic floor journey and the fact that I have a new outlook on things. I also share why I started the podcast and what I strive to do!

There is also a bit of a rant about Matthew Perry's new book. I am deeply disappointed in his portrayal of having an ostomy and in my opinion, what he says is not true. Or at least NEVER happened to me. Ostomies save lives and it saved his. Are they pleasant? NO! But as person who has had one and for a long time had a lot of shame around it, I don't want the IBD community to take a step back because a celebrity gave a horrific account of what he said happened to him. I'm sure everything he wrote, he feels deeply, but as someone who has been in the IBD community for over 30 years and speaking to a lot of people, some of the things he says in untrue. If you are a fan of his, maybe skip the end!

Letting that sh*t go!

Letting that sh*t go!

In this episode I am baring my soul. Expect crying. I share about my recent journey with pelvic floor therapy and how the outcome was not what I thought it was going to be. I also discuss blaming myself, even though I know deep down none of this was my fault but I need to blame someone, and if it's not my fault then whose is it? Spoiler: sometimes it's no one's fault. AND by holding on to shame and anger you are only hurting yourself. Although this episode deals with an issue specific to me, the messages can apply to lots of scenarios. I designed this podcast to help people face their fears and this one is my biggest one. It's true what they say, once your biggest fear actually happens, it's not so scary anymore.

Being Fearless with Amanda Carr

This week on the podcast I have an amazing conversation with Amanda Carr. Amanda Carr is a multi-styled vocalist/pianist who began professionally as a teenager in the rock and pop genre playing in Boston area night clubs with later years including jazz and big band, focusing on fresh interpretations of the Great American Songbook and receiving critical acclaim. I have known Amanda most of my life and when I asked her to come on the podcast I assumed we would be talking a lot about music BUT you know what happens when we assume?! The conversation took a beautiful turn about life and being an imperfectly perfect human. I hope you like this conversation as much as I did!

Getting your shit together!

Getting your shit together!

What do you need right now? Do you even know? Years ago I did not. I had slowly embarked on a personal development/ self love journey but had no idea what I needed. All these books were telling me to "go for it" and I had no idea what "it" was. Maybe you don't either? I thought it would be helpful to tell you exactly what helped me. At first it will sound overwhelming but once you get into a groove and get consistent, it won't and you can make small changes in order to figure out what your "it" is. You will then find that when you keep doing the work, your "it" will change and evolve because you are!

These are the books I recommend when first starting out"

You are a badass by Jen Sincero

Choose wonder over worry by Amber Rae

Girl, wash your face by Rachel Hollis

How to manifest your dreams!

How to manifest your dreams!

In this episode I am telling you exactly how I've learned to manifest my dreams! Have you ever heard the story of how I manifested my house? I'm sharing it and it's a great example about how what you put out is what you get. I break down the law of attraction for you and how it can be used for good and evil! It seems simple enough to just declare what you want to the Universe and get it but SPOILER: you gotta put in some work! If you had asked me a few years ago if manifestation was real I would have told you it was total bull shit, but I can say with 100% confidence, it's real and you can manifest everything you want in life! You just need determination and patience!

Amber Tresca on About IBD

This week I have a conversation with Amber Tresca. Amber is an IBD patient (diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1989) who has been writing and editing patient-facing content for the IBD community since 2000 both for major online outlets and on her own site, AboutIBD.com. Being Fearless with Amy Malsbenden Neil

This week I have a conversation with Amy Malsbenden Neil. Amy helps owners of older homes design the house they desire without sacrificing nostalgic old time beauty and without breaking the bank! Amy has been into DIY home projects since she was a kid. Amy grew up around a family who was always doing projects and she learned how to do many projects. Amy helps clients do home projects at their level. She can help you whether you are a beginner or have been doing it a long time. Just talking to Amy made me feel nostalgic and it inspired me to update some things in my own home! One of the things I love is that she blogs about project regularly and offers video "how to's" and one of them is about using power tools! (Something that intimidates me for sure!)

Things you should know by the time you reach 40!

You guys! I'm turning 40 in a few weeks! I've decided to share with you some of the life lessons I've learned in my (almost) 40 years! I was also curious as to what society thinks we should know by the time we turn 40! Spoiler: I called bull shit on a a few of them! Here's the thing, wherever you are at in life, it's ok, You are doing great and you are enough! Don't let anyone dictate your timeline, it's your life, live it in a way that makes you happy!

Being Fearless with Intestinal Fortitude

Being Fearless with Intestinal Fortitude

This week I am having a conversation with Will, owner of Intestinal Fortitude. Intestinal Fortitude is a company he founded after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Will did an incredible amount of research around supplements to help with ulcerative colitis. He was searching for a more holistic approach to avoid taking medication. He found that he was taking a lot of different bottles of supplements and thought "hey maybe I can figure out how to make 1 supplement") and make it affordable! Obviously, supplements will not work for everyone, but if you are like me you are willing to give it a try! I've been taking his supplements for a few years and I've noticed a HUGE difference in my inflammation. This conversation is very information, especially if like me you have no idea how to read labels on vitamins and supplements! (Hint: not all are created equally!)

Don't fear rejection!

Don't fear rejection!

If you don't ask the question, the answer will always be no. These are words I live by. The #1 thing that hold people back from asking is the fear of rejection. Rejection sucks no matter who you are, but would you rather hear no, or live your life not knowing? I'd rather hear no. In this episode I talk about rejection, and ways you can overcome the fear of it. Instead of focusing on the outcome, focus on the fact you were brave enough to put yourself out there. That's what it should be about!

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on rejection! DM me @beingfearlessjax

Trusting your gut!

Trusting your gut!

This week I am talking about trusting your gut. Call it your gut or intuition whatever you like, but either way it's the voice inside you telling you how things are. Remember watching shows were the main character is struggling with a decision? The Devil is on one side of their shoulder and an Angel on the other? That's your gut talking. Sometimes your gut screams loudly and other times it's softer and you need to get quiet and listen. In the episode I share a big event where I did not listen to my gut. Although it is part of my journey, my gut was telling me what I was about to do was not right. I'm giving you some tips to help you get in tune with your gut, all you gotta do is listen!

One year later...

One year later...

Can you believe it's been almost 1 year since the pandemic?! I give you guys a rundown on my past year and what I've learned. I also talk about embracing change and give you tips about how to get through it. Let's face it, the last year hit us with a ton of change and guess what? WE SURVIVED! Take this as an opportunity to remember you can do hard things!

I also touch upon the fact that at times goals can be harmful. I am a goal oriented person and sometimes I make some big goals that are not attainable and drive myself bonkers to get there. I recently learned to take a step back. It's great to have goals but sometimes things take time. It takes as long as it takes. Don't beat yourself up about not getting there in a time frame you created for yourself! Be patient!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the last year! Shoot me a message on instagram!

Straight Talk about Spiraling

Straight Talk about Spiraling

This week I am turning on the microphone and just giving it to you straight. I used to be a person who fell into a downward spiral of overwhelm and anxiety and had no idea it was happening or how to "get out of it". I now have the ability to recognize the spiral, but it doesn't make it easier to combat. It does, however show a lot of personal growth and we celebrate wins. I recently encountered a "slow burn" spiral which resulted in my need to simply take a break. I needed to check in with my body and mind, get quiet and ask what I needed. I'm talking about what happened, what I did to fix it, and some ideas you can use to combat spiraling. It's ok to give yourself permission to take a break. It will be ok. I swear!

I also address why I had no uploaded a podcast. Part of which was a lack of feeling inspired but also my new puppy Buffy chewed the cord and I had to order another one! The joys of being a puppy Mom! Enjoy the episode.

Getting Essential with Kate Levesque

In this weeks episode I have a conversation with my friend Young Living Rep Kate Levesque! I met Kate a few years ago and she introduced me to essential oils. Kate has been learning about the benefits of essential oils for years and came on the podcast to give us the 411. There are so many ways you can use then and I don't know about you but I am fascinated by them and taking an overall hollistic approach to health and wellness. She answered all the questions I asked, even the ones I was sure she would be stumped by. She has a vast knowledge of essential oils. Not only is Kate a Young Living Rep but she is a working Mom and Wife and still makes time for herself! She tells you why you need your "you" time, especially as a Mom. Being Fearless One Year Podcastversary!

Being Fearless One Year Podcastversary!

Being Fearless is 1!!! Today on the podcast we are celebrating one year of podcasting! Not only that but we are celebrating friendships! Originally I had recorded a podcast with my bestie Leslie, but alas the computer program crashed and it was lost. Instead I share what I learned in one year of podcasting and also what it takes to make friendships last. When you are done listening I want to encourage you to phone a friend (or text) to say hello! (Maybe share the podcast hint hint!)

Thank you to everyone who listens, I am grateful for all of you!

Being Fearless with Marc Blandin

Being Fearless with Marc Blandin

The podcast is almost a year old and this is the first time I'm sitting down and having a conversation with a man! Representing all the men in the world this week is Marc Blandin! Marc is the National Endurance Coach for the Team Challenge through the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. Marc was my running coach when I trained for my first half marathon and I'm not joking when I tell you, he was the reason I kept going! I had so many questions about running and he answered all of them. Everything I learned from running, I basically learned from Marc. Marc is not only an amazing coach but he is a top fundraiser for the cause. Marc founded the 26.2 for you, which is where he runs a marathon in honor of a Crohn's or Colitis warrior and shares their story to raise awareness.

In this episode he shares his running journey, how he became involved with the foundation, and gives running tips! He's fantastic!

Being Consistent!

Being Consistent!

You can't expect consistent results if you are putting in inconsistent effort. This episode is all about being consistent and I offer tips to "stay on track". Let's face it, being consistent is freaking hard! You have to basically fight what your brain is saying, which is normally giving you any excuse not to do something. I also talk a lot about my latest goals involving running and how I'm staying consistent!

Being Fearless with Michelle Agrela Wilson, licensed counselor

Being Fearless with Michelle Agrela Wilson, licensed counselor

This week we are talking about a subject that makes a lot of people uncomfortable: depression. Depression is a serious condition that negatively affects how a person things. It's more than being sad. As a person who has suffered from depression, my hope is to put the topic out there and make it feel less taboo.

My guest this week is Michelle Agrela Wilson, who is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Georgia. We discussed coping mechanisms to help with depression and what Michelle does when she has a "resistant" patient. Michelle's approach is very straight forward and honest and she admits "she is not always everyone's cup of tea" which is okay, but she will always be honest and work with you. Michelle works mainly with younger kids and teenagers and she helps shape how they think about things. She teaches these children self love, which is something I think we all need help with.

We all have a different view on depression, but if you feel that you are struggling, Michelle and I want to encourage you to seek help. It's a fearless move to ask for help and we all need it sometimes!

Here are some resources Michelle recommends if you are looking to educate yourself on depression:

www.psychaitry.com

National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 800-273-8255

Crisis Text Line 741741

Mindfulness Apps: insight timer, UCLA mindful

Being Fearless with Mary Golden

Being Fearless with Mary Golden

In this episode I have a conversation with my friend Mary Golden. Mary and I went to High School together and reconnected through FB. Mary is one of those people who inspire me daily. Mary shares her journey authentically and you can tell how passionate she is about her health and wellness. Mary is a Mom and about a year or so ago she made the decision to start putting herself first once in awhile and has become increasingly more happy and better Mom/ wife in the process. She shares what her "aha" moment was and how she started making changes in her life. I love her story because like most Mom's she has always put her kids first and never did anything for herself. (Sound familiar Moms?) She is amazing and it's a great conversation!
