This episode is really just to catch up on what I have been up to alongside some stories that I have come across during my break from podcasting. These stories caught my eye because they were interesting, funny, sad and had a point for all to learn from. I kept this particular episode short, so enjoy.
I do plan on doing more videos for my channel. If you have any suggestions as to what you want me to say or see me do, please get in touch with me.
As always, I do appreciate MBS for my amazing intro music. If you would like a song done, message MBS on Instagram @muzikbysymphony
It has been a bit since the last episode. Breaks are needed when podcasting 💁♀️ With that being said, welcome to another episode!! The next musician that I get to speak with is James Lee Baker 🎸 We were talking before the show and he is a very accomplished individual. He devotes as much time as he can with his family before traveling to perform heartfelt music that will put a smile on your face, guaranteed. Time was limited as he had other things to accomplish for the night so this episode is going to be much shorter than the others. I hope you all enjoy! 😁
A classically trained musician, James Lee Baker fuses influences from acoustic singer-songwriters like David Mead, Ellis Paul, John Gorka, Gregory Alan Isakov, Bob Dylan, and Slaid Cleaves. He embraces open tunings to create an unconventional but welcoming sound and timbre to his playing. Trained briefly by Richard Gilewitz, a renowned fingerstyle guitar player, James Lee’s fingerstyle guitar playing is rich and melodic, pulling listeners into memorable motifs and atmospheres.
In 2017, Baker released a Texas-inspired full-length project called “Home Again.” Harnessing his experience in technology, Baker recruited talented studio session musicians, accessing performers from Los Angeles, Canada, The United Kingdom, and Denver. “Home Again” is a Country-flavored Americana album, rich with instrumentation like dobro, lap steel, fiddle, and harmonica. Current single, “Disappear for the Weekend” is receiving airplay and charting on the New Music Weekly and Airplay Today country charts. The same is also true for his previous single, “Cowtown Blues.”
In March 2018, he released an EP of Folk/Americana songs called The Canadian River. The single of the same title placed #23 on the FolkDJ radio charts in April of 2018, and the song “Two Cageless Birds” went on to be selected for the John O’Hara Songwriting Performance Grant.
James has played at several prominent venues including the Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles, The Fox Theater in Boulder, and Swallow Hill and The Walnut Room in Denver.

Welcome to another episode 😜 What is interesting about the month of June is that we get to celebrate Gay Pride 🏳️🌈 Everyone should be free to be who they want to be without judgments being made. We all live to be happy, right? That is what I thought but what I didn't think was how hard it was to actually be happy 😪 We all go through situations in life that makes it difficult to feel free, don't you agree? Anyways, my next guest, Shelly DeWitt, explains the struggles she went through to be where she is today. Not only has she escaped from what she once believed to be a "family" but she has found happiness through meeting her love, Mary. To answer your next question, yes, she is gay. Shelly is a proud lesbian and shares her story with the world in hopes to make others who feel as though they need to hide, come out and be free. Take a listen 👂🏻 to the episode and enjoy! 😀
Shelly was born and raised Mormon, got married young and had 7 kids, left the church, came out of the closet, and got divorced. Then she met the love of her life and together they started a podcast to unpack all of the trauma and damage and figure out what to do next. The Latter Day Lesbian podcast is raw and honest, yet side-splitting funny and hopeful. Find it on all your favorite podcast apps.

Episode 71 is fun and exciting because we have Kristen Karma!! 😍 Her music is fun and exciting. I would see myself dancing to it in a club. You just let yourself go when listening to it. When speaking with her, you can truly understand that she has worked very hard to get to where she is today. I am honored to have had the chance to speak to her and get to know more about who she is. It would be amazing to see her in person. Maybe someday we will meet and do a live podcast? I hope you all take the time to listen 👂🏻 to the episode and enjoy! 😀
Kristen Karma’s music career has already blossomed in the pop/dance scene in her hometown of Vancouver. Now located in Toronto, Kristen Karma is no stranger to the ever growing music industry. Karma not only wields a certificate in Audio Engineering from Hot Sole Music, but has studied voice with Judith Rabinovitch, who has worked with the likes of Avril Lavigne and Sarah McLachlan.
Even though much of her formative years were devoted to a theoretical and exacting world of ballet lessons, Air Cadets, Military Marching Bands, and The Royal Conservatory of Music, some of the only evidence that remains of her past is the neon pink tulle that shoots out from under her black corset. It’s undeniable—Kristen Karma is a band nerd. But she is a band nerd who might punch you in the face for showing up late to practice.
Her current single “Party Heroes” has her hard pounding electronic dance sound that is sure to bring your to your feet. The clever constructed lyrics and catchy beats combined heavy powerful guitar solos will leave you wanting more. Already garnering rave reviews with the infectious sounds throughout, this sees Kristen moving into a new stage of her music career. Released in April 2019, the song reached the iTunes Canada Pop chart Top 20, peaking at #17.
In 2013, Kristen Karma was selected as one of two performers to play the Lady Gaga Born This Way Ball After-party and open for Tour DJ/Lady Gaga BFF Lady Starlight in Vancouver. With rave reviews from her performance, she then went on to work with lil’Jon on her single “Sirens.”
In 2017, she opened for Grammy Award Winner Akon 😮 in Guelph, Ontario on his Canadian Promo Tour. Hot off the heels of her performance, Kristen was then approached and selected to play the Lady Gaga – Joanne World Tour VIP After-party once again in Vancouver after Lady Gaga’s performance at Rogers Arena.
Karma continues to wow audiences with her energetic live performances, and she does it all with a neon pink microphone in hand. 🎤

Episode 69 is another musical episode, however. The music that we will learn about is written and played by Brady Novotny. His unique sound creates emotions that you would only expect from those that sing a song. A lot of his music is straight instrumental. His music is completely hypnotic. It is almost like you are being transported into another world...okay, that might be too much. You are just brought to another level with hearing music played without voices being heard. What is amazing to also know is that his wife supports his music career as well as participates in singing. Her angelic voice gives emphasis as to what message he is telling his listeners. His music tells all about who he is and where he comes from, just like any other artist out there. It is just how he goes about it is what I am intrigued by. Want to know more? Take a listen and enjoy!
Brady Novotny started playing the guitar at the age of 10. Determined to be a world class guitarist, he left his first guitar lesson with his instructor telling him basically to give it up now. Thus he was introduced to criticism and disappointment early in his endeavor. Nevertheless, Brady heard a guitar player that would motivate him to push all that aside and re-energize his passion to continue; that guitar player was Randy Rhoads. Brady soon fell in love with classical and melodic guitar playing. Brady practiced restlessly learning everything from classical pieces, melodic and virtuosic solos from 80's guitar heroes, to jazz fusion.
Brady loved the guitar, and truly, that has been his passion. He attended Berklee College of Music for a little time. At the age of 19, he was asked to teach summer guitar workshop at Duquesne University. As life often happens, however, Brady got burned out and went back to school and received his masters in Psychology. Yep, that's right -- Psychology. But the passion is back and stronger than ever, plus it never hurts to have some money!
Brady set out to do an instrumental project that would have his listeners singing the haunting melodies while holding their attention by uniquely placed guitar virtuosity and dynamic rhythms creating a fusion of rock, flamenco, and jazz. His love for a variety of musical styles led him to study under many teachers in his life. Brady started out playing Classical guitar at the age of 10. Ever since then, Brady has had a strong affection for nylon string guitar sound. Ultimately, this led him to study Flamenco guitar. He immediately fell in love with the passion, virtuosity and rhythm of this style. The shred of the 80’s was one of his main influences and guilty pleasures, while Jazz was a big influence on Brady’s chordal choices and song color.
Brady has a wide range of experience in the music business. His experience ranges from the Pittsburgh rock scene to national tours. He has worked as a Pittsburgh session guitarist, Worship leader, and guitarist at several mega churches. He has also taught guitar at clinics and universities.
His 2019 release with MTS Management Group/MTS Records is “Passions Collide” featuring the lead single, “Redemption’s Cry.” The song, featuring a hauntingly beautiful vocal from Brady’s wife, Jennifer, is currently charting on the Airplay Today national radio charts.

Have you ever met someone so sweet and kind that they tend to stick in your mind? I hope that makes sense. What I mean is that, I had a great discussion with Bill Abernathy 👼🏻 We talked a lot about what he went through to get to where he is today. His story is one to remember. His passion for music has always meant a great deal to him but he had to take a break because...life happened. When he started to get back into the swing of things, he was able to have more control of what he wanted. Now, he holds concerts plus travels here and there from time to time. The best part is, it is on his own time. He isn't rushed to do anything he isn't comfortable with. What is still number one is family. We can all understand that! We should all be inspired by this man 🙌🏻 Want to know more about him? Take a listen 👂🏻 to this episode and enjoy! 😀
Everyone loves a good story about second-chances, and that’s exactly what Bill Abernathy’s story is all about. The Kansas City, Missouri resident began writing songs in his early teens. He played all through his school years, but then he stopped...Life took over.
Bill went about getting married, building a business career, and raising his children. 👪
After his kids graduated from school and started their careers, Bill picked up the guitar again and began trying to rekindle his love of music.
“Inspiration for my music comes from a variety of the many parts of my life,” Bill says. “Events and experiences of mine, my family, my friends, and sometimes even people I have never met all, contribute to the creativity of my music. I find it interesting and rewarding to let my imagination wander through the memory and spirit of life events and see where it takes me.”
Bill is a pure "lyrics-first" writer...a bit of a storyteller. “I feel the story and lyrics talk to me and tell me what the rest of the song is supposed to sound like,” he says.
His last album, 2017’s “Find A Way” reached #5 on the Roots Music Report Traditional Folk Album chart, and the single, “Goodbye Will Never Come Again” reached #1 on the singles chart. 🎻
Bill’s latest collection of songs, “Crossing Willow Creek” is available now, with first single, “Cry Wolf” hitting radio airwaves around the globe. The single reached the iTunes Top 100 Rock Songs chart, while hitting the Top 5 on New Music Weekly’s country chart. Bill is also a December 2018 Billboard Magazine Emerging Artist.
“Sometimes life is good to you and gives you a second chance. In my youth I walked away from music for a myriad of personal reasons. Now, I've now been given a second chance to pursue this thing we love called music, and I am really enjoying the ride!”

Obsessed with comedians and comedic writers such as Jenny Lawson, Tina Fey, Carrie Fisher, Kristin Wiig, Amy Poehler, Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres, Chelsea Handler, Wendy Williams, Mitch Hedberg, Wanda Sykes, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Will Ferrell, Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball and Roseanne Barr, she developed a writing style that is self-deprecating, hilarious 🤣 and slightly neurotic.
Amy has self-diagnosed herself with many conditions including: OCD (uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts vacillating from cleaning to running away), misophonia (having intense angry reactions to lip-smacking), Tourette’s Syndrome (yelling out random words), Sedatephobia (finds silence vexing and scary), apraxia (difficulty pronouncing words) and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). She’s taking many, many natural, herbal supplements.
Amy and her (second) husband, Peter, are having many issues raising their four teenagers and large dog 🐶 together in the suburbs just north of Atlanta.

Jacq Jones takes pride in the shop and is willing answer any and all questions you have about sex! That's right, sex. When talking to Jacq, I felt as if I had more confidence to explain what I am struggling with and ways to improve techniques as well as learn new ways to be happier in the bedroom :P It wasn't just about learning how to please, she makes you feel confident in your own skin. We should all explore our bodies to know what we like versus what we don't like. As you all know, I am trying to be more open about my sexuality so this topic really opened me up. I hope you all enjoy :)

In this episode, I will be explaining my interpretation of a quote that I found. We all want things, doesn’t mean that we will get them. If we want it, do whatever it takes to get it. Turn your wants into “I am” and “I’m going to.” It really does make a difference.

New name for the podcast and new look. What do you think? Anyways, in this episode, we will dive into the missed connections on craigslist in Rochester, NY. Will they be funny? Will they be sad? Who knows! Listen to find out!
This episode I will be catching you all up as to what is going on. Babies apparently can get a UTI? Who am I involved with? How am I managing being a single parent? These are all the questions that will be answered.
In this episode, I will be taking points made by Jeff Bullas in his article "The Morning Happiness Ritual That Will Make You Flourish and Thrive" that leads on to other articles mentioned as well. If you wish to read more of his work, make sure to visit www.jeffbullas.com. Enjoy!
As a single parent, I’m really trying to enjoy the life of being single. I’m focusing more on my son and I rather than trying to find someone. With that being said, it’s okay to venture out to have conversations with others.
It’s tough to date in 2018. People care more for themselves than other people that are around them. You really have to pick and choose carefully as to who is coming into your life. You have to know whether or not they are as “real” as they say on an app or in person.
