Education vs. Motivation
Many leadership gurus, management thinkers, and health experts tend to push the narrative that a lack of education is to blame for many of our societal shortcomings and lack of high performance in life. I disagree, respectfully, and in today’s episode I push back against the narrative, sharing an article I wrote on the topic. I believe it is a lack of motivation and desire, not education, that keeps us from attaining the best version of ourselves. You can read the full article here.

A Conversation with Scott Thacker, Head Swimming Coach, Roanoke College
Scott Thacker is the Head Swimming Coach at Roanoke College. Starting the program from scratch in 2017, Scott quickly built Roanoke into one of the best programs in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, finishing second on the men’s side and third on the women’s at this year’s ODAC Championships. Scott earned 2019 Men’s ODAC Coach of The Year Honors and had an NCAA Qualifier on the women’s side...all in just two years of program history. Learn how Scott built Roanoke into an ODAC power and hear his beliefs on training, personal/professional development, culture building, and more. At more than three hours, 2.0 speed is recommended!

A Conversation with Brad Dunn, Director of Swimming, University of Lynchburg
Brad Dunn is the Director of Men’s & Women’s Swimming at the University of Lynchburg, formerly Lynchburg College. After a nearly 50-year hiatus, Lynchburg is resurrecting Men’s and Women’s Swimming as a member of the ODAC in the fall of 2019. In our conversation, Brad and I discuss the challenges of starting a program from scratch, his transition from club to college coaching, training, professional development, and why he keeps an RC car in his office, among many other topics. You can follow Brad on Twitter and learn more about Lynchburg Swimming here.
