S03 E07: Caz Hitchcock from the Gravity Technique {part 2}

S03 E07: Caz Hitchcock from the Gravity Technique {part 2}

In this episode, I’m carrying on my conversation with Caz Hitchcock of the Gravity Technique.

Caz is an anatomy & human movement expert specialising in fixing faulty movement patterns to alleviate chronic joint pain. (please note this is part 2 so please go back to listen to part 1 if you haven't already )

Her own personal journey paired with her extensive knowledge inspired her to create a unique modality called The Gravity Technique.

For many years Caz was a Yoga teacher but was frustrated with the level of knowledge provided in her training to help her clients with various injuries they'd come to her with. She embarked on a 10-year journey to dissect (literally) the body and learn about the world of fascia and anatomy in motion.

She now teaches and coaches anyone in pain as well as training fellow yoga & movement professionals (and anyone keen to learn) to up-level their skills and help their clients on a whole new level.

Caz's mission is to de-normalise the narrative that pain is just part of life and something we have to put up with.

S03 E05: Ruth and Brian from The Kaleidoscopes - Menopause Revolution

In this episode, I interviewed Ruth and Brian from The Kaleidoscopes (Menopause Education and Support for All) who again are part of my wonderful Collaborate MK networking community. I am fascinated by what is being described as the “Menopause Revolution” – it is something that very much needed to happen in my book – to finally scrap all the taboo around the subject of something that happens to half the population. This amazing organisation is using a two-prong approach to be at the forefront of this movement by tackling head-on, both supporting women directly and through community to deal with all the many flavours of symptoms that they experience during this season and hooking them up with holistic experts to help them navigate it all and most importantly not feel alone. Then in addition they are going into corporate environments to open up the discussion and talk to everyone about menopause so that everyone knows what it entails, knowledge really is power! The Kaleidoscopes was launched in January this year (2023) by Cerus and Ruth so that they could find ways to support other women through the menopause years. Each with their different stories around menopause and lack of support, they felt they could find ways to support other women … and so they did. S03 E04: Sharon Whittle - The Happy Face Yoga

This month, I am so excited to interview my friend and ex-hairdresser Sharon Whittle who moved to the US around 3 years ago and took the opportunity to pivot her career and re-train as a face yoga practitioner/teacher/coach.

Sharon is a dedicated face yoga and wellbeing coach, whose passion lies in helping women naturally achieve their best appearance and well-being from within. She was born and raised in the UK and resided there until three years ago when she, along with her husband and daughter, relocated to the USA. Sharon discovered the power of face yoga several years ago when she noticed changes in her own complexion during the throes of perimenopause and struggled with hormonal fluctuations.

Experiencing first-hand the transformative effects of face yoga, Sharon witnessed immediate improvements in her skin and recognized the importance of sharing this method with other women. For her, face yoga encompasses a comprehensive well-being package that employs holistic techniques centred around inner serenity. Empowering women to exude confidence through their skin brings Sharon immense joy.

Through her classes and membership program, Sharon serves as a guiding force, encouraging her clients to embrace their natural beauty and nurture self-love. She wholeheartedly embraces this transformative approach to holistic beauty and wellness. Sharon's ultimate mission is to inspire women to celebrate their uniqueness and lead fulfilling lives brimming with self-assurance, all while looking and feeling their absolute best from the inside out.

S03 E02: Vicky Wilson - Homeopathy & Naturopathic Nutrition

The subject of this month’s episode is Homeopathy with a side of Naturopathic Nutrition, discussed with a specialist in both; Vicky Wilson (of Energise Health Nutrition), who once again I have connected with through my fabulous local networking group Collaborate MK.

Here's a bit about Vicky:

Vicky is an experienced Naturopathic Nutritionist and Registered Homeopath specialising in women’s hormonal health helping her clients to get their energy, weight, sleep, and mood under control using food and lifestyle changes.

She’ll work with you to create a food plan that is tailored to you, and that you can integrate easily with your lifestyle. Your new food plan will soon become just the way you eat, and the benefits you see will be sustainable in the long term.

S03 E01: Sorrel Pindar – From Osteopathy to Mental Wealth Coach and all the things in between

S03 E01: Sorrel Pindar – From Osteopathy to Mental Wealth Coach and all the things in between

I met Sorrel through my local Networking group Collaborate MK which if you are in the Milton Keynes area I highly recommend you check out, as everything they do from top to bottom is all about Collaboration over Competition which is entirely a core belief of mine. In this fascinating conversation, we discuss how Sorrel went from being an Osteopath for 20 years before pivoting to becoming a Mental Wealth Coach and how the two specialisms are connected…

Here is Sorrel’s bio for a bit of context: “I currently work as a well-being coach with a focus on mental health and relationships. And I have a particular interest in boarding school survivors as I am one myself. Until last May I was also working as an osteopath with a specialisation in the treatment of ME/CFS and long covid. I learned a lot from those particular patients as I discovered how early trauma often plays out as chronic illness later in life.”

We go on, for our example piece in this episode, how to plan your goals for the year ahead and why it is important to do this from spring rather than January.

As ever I would love to know your favourite takeaway from the episode in the comments below… I hope you find our conversation as fascinating as I did. If it resonates with you please do subscribe to this podcast, give us a review, and a like and if possible share with someone who might like it too 😊 You can find all my podcast links

S02 E10: Vikki Henderson – Being a Reiki Healer...

S02 E10: Vikki Henderson – Being a Reiki Healer...

I met Vikki through Starseed Business Networking (which you can find on Eventbrite & join for free to connect with so so many in the holistic health space), Vikki came back to my follow-up email to say she was interested in being a guest on my podcast when I found out she was a Reiki & Energy Healer I was delighted to invite her on to find out more about all the things she does. Talking of energy, Vikki’s energy is just beautiful, calm and relatable throughout our conversation we go into the history of healing and discuss the transition from a linear to a circular worldview and how we are all part of nature and the universe and how we all need to reconnect. We also deep dive into the difference between Reiki and general energy healing and discuss the benefits of both. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, and I’d love to hear your favourite takeaway in the comments below. Here’s a bit of Vikki’s story for context: “Throughout life, from childhood through to the present day, there have been a number of life experiences that have occurred whereby I can remember back, vividly, to a point where I was making a conscious wish, a dream maybe, for life to go a certain way and then boom! There it was! To begin with, it was rather a shock! As you’d imagine. Then as I began to acknowledge that this was more than just a coincidence, I began experimenting and seeing how effective this cool attribute could be! Remembering that this was WAY before the term ‘Manifestation’ or the ‘Law of Attraction’ were widely known, the only way I could figure it out was through trial and error. And believe me, there have been a fair few errors along the way. Or as I like to see it; there have been many life lessons experienced along the way... ...In 2017, I began a huge undertaking! I wanted to learn, study, explore and reconnect with that element of my inner self that had been shut away for so long! Answer all these questions that had been building up inside. With maturity on my side, I had the confidence to remain grounded, protected, guided and open-minded enough to open up every element of me to the energetic world and feed my hunger for understanding. All my research and studies have pointed to one thing. Vibrational energy. I have discovered a way to see, feel, hear and connect with vibrational energy. And once I understood this, the rest became so very clear.” I love how Vikki’s whole approach is to help people to help themselves, her vocation is actually ancient, and in my option is absolutely what the world needs right now - to have more and more healers in the mainstream as my goodness we all need healing and need to understand that we don't need to remain in a perpetual state of brokenness. S02 E09: Jenny Light: How to heal your body through yoga, meditation and light work

S02 E09: Jenny Light: How to heal your body through yoga, meditation and light work

I met Jenny through Starseed Business Networking (which you can find on Eventbrite & join for free to connect with so so many in the holistic health space), I found her voice and her presence very calming so was delighted to have her as a guest on my podcast.

Jenny Light is a Yoga Elder, psychologist, meditation teacher on Insight Timer, author and inspirational speaker from Scotland, UK. Her spiritual upbringing was fostered by her parents’ personal exploration of Vegetarianism, Yoga, Buddhism, Findhorn (in the early days) and spiritual healing. She had a kundalini awakening as a small child and found yoga at 9, Jenny continued where she left off in her spiritual meditative path of many lifetimes.

Jenny trained as a Dru Yoga teacher in 2000 and went on the train extensively in Scaravelli Yoga before undergoing esoteric spiritual training under her guru, Paramahansa Yogananada, through the Self Realization Fellowship. She is a Yoga Elder of Independent Yoga Network.

Jenny's long-awaited 3rd meditation book, 'Awakening the Lotus of Peace' (Mantra Books 2022) is a beautifully illustrated book of yoga meditations to experience and express different qualities of peace in your life.

Her first book, ‘Living Lightly: a journey through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME)’ (Ayni Books 2016) charts her own healing journey after complete burn-out as a Support for Learning and Chartered Teacher in primary & secondary schools. Jenny says: 'I had become a human doing, not a human being.' A path of yogic breathing, meditation, spiritual healing, raw food diet and rethinking her whole approach to life, brought Jenny back onto her original life path as a spiritual teacher.

In her book, 'Divine Meditations: 26 Spiritual Qualities of the Bhagavad Gita' (Mantra Books 2019), Jenny has crafted a spiritual workbook of yoga practises describing how to entrain the consciousness to the higher soul qualities, such as fearlessness, compassion & ahimsa (non-violence), using pranayama, mantra, mudra and meditation.

Jenny has been a spiritual healer for 35 years, is a member of United Spiritual Healers and is an Advanced Sound Healer in the use of tuning forks to harmonise the body/mind/spirit balance. She is also an artist, specialising in oil painting of Scotland’s beaches & islands.

S02 E06: How and Why to Go Sugar-Free with Marijana Dragojevic

S02 E06: How and Why to Go Sugar-Free with Marijana Dragojevic

I met Marijana at a free networking event which I found on Eventbrite. Going sugar-free is something which I have been interested in, but also sceptical of how, so I was excited and intrigued for this conversation as Marijana promises that "life without sugar is more sweet" - fundamentally life without sugar doesn't mean life without sweetness, eating bland food, quite the opposite in fact. The conversation was so informative with so much tangible advice, I hope you guys enjoy it and find it helpful too. Re-listening to edit the episode made me think about everything she was saying again, and there is stuff we can, and should,  all do regardless of budget, like follow the "grandma rule"...

Here's a bit about Marijana:

Marijana’s programmes work to help you to change your relationship with food forever! She can help you lose weight without hunger or cravings. Her programmes use the latest nutritional research. She is a fully qualified Mind-Body-Nutrition Coach, Nutritional Therapist, Keto Coach and Meditation Teacher. In addition to this, she has written a cookbook with hundreds of recipes. She has been perfecting these recipes in one way or another for over 30 years. This knowledge and experience allow her to tailor-make recipes to just about anyone’s preference.

S02 E04: Being a Holistic Therapist with Laura Hamblyn Vasu Devi

This was a fascinating conversation with Laura about her business and offerings as a holistic therapist. All the different modalities she covers and how she found this calling in her life. If this is something which you know little about currently (like me) and don't know where to start but find it interesting, this podcast episode is for you. I have made a point throughout of asking all the layman's questions and Laura does an excellent job of explaining everything in simple and understandable terms.

"Laura is an experienced Healer, she works intuitively with the subtle body to provide deep healing. This is offered through 1-2-1 Chakra work, Shamanic Crystal Dreaming, and Group Meditations. Laura studied intensively with Shanti Mission (a school for the soul) based outside of Sydney Australia, after having an awakening experience in India in 2014. Her life has been transformed into one of joy, service and love, through meditation and healing, and she is passionate about sharing these tools with those ready to embark on their healing journey. "

S02 E03: How to be a Multiplatform Yoga Teacher with Helen from My Mindful Movement & Well with Hels

S02 E03: How to be a Multiplatform Yoga Teacher with Helen from My Mindful Movement & Well with Hels

Loved talking to Helen, having followed her and her lovely YouTube videos for quite some time on YouTube, I'm so glad that I reached out to her to invite her onto my podcast.

Helen started her YouTube channel, Well with Hels, back in 2016 after falling in love with yoga as her reason to leave her marketing job on time. She did her 200 hours of teacher training with Yoga London and has since then specialised further with Sally Parkes: 85hr Pre & Postnatal yoga teacher training, Gateway: 8hr Indian head massage training, The Yoga People: 50hr Yin & the elements yoga teacher training, Rachel Land Yoga: 12hrs Myofascial release for yoga teachers, Real Fertile X Sally Parkes: 25hrs Fertility yoga teacher training. Her style is intuitive, inclusive and all about feeling good in your body.

She now has a membership site over at MyMindfulMovement.co where:

"Through the My Mindful Movement practice, each new class aims to empower you to move in a way that suits you. No two people are the same and no two days are the same, so we are here as your guide to help you connect deeper to yourself.

Some days we may need a sweaty, strong flow, others stillness and self-reflection, we make space for it all here in the My Mindful Movement studio. We draw inspiration from yoga, mobility, myofascial release, functional movement and more! Expect creative and fun transitions, feel-good stretches and interesting ways to explore your unique body. Prepare to fall in love with movement!"

In this episode, we discuss everything from how physical education is lacking in mindful movement in schools, to how to be a minimalist in every area of your life and focus on less is more and quality over quantity, a work in progress for us both in different ways. Also what we have learnt through being influencers and creating our brand across multiple platforms. And what yoga has done for us both in our lives.

I hope you enjoy this episode and please be sure to check Helen out on all her platforms:

We covered so much but in a nutshell, this is what you can learn from our chat:

👉 How to find your niche before starting your business

👉 How to find these online communities

👉 What is an Instagram meet up and how do you join and run them

S01 E04: Managing Anxiety in Busy Lives with Lisa Dumas, Yoga Therapist

S01 E04: Managing Anxiety in Busy Lives with Lisa Dumas, Yoga Therapist

I met Lisa through the wonderful IG community a few years ago and saw that she was running a podcast with fellow yoga teacher Aimee Pruitt called the Radiant Warrior Podcast, where they both discuss how they used both yoga and Ayurveda (the holistic theory behind yoga) to heal themselves from their own life challenges, of anxiety and burn out.

At the point when I found the podcast I had been doing yoga myself for around 20 years but not really got into the theory behind it, I absolutely loved their conversational approach to teaching about the subject through this podcast, each week would be like a phone call of two friends which you got to listen in on and learn so much from.

I also really related to Lisa’s story specifically as she worked in radio broadcasting originally when she first started experiencing anxiety after having a negative manager. I have a media degree and whilst I was studying I volunteered at a BBC radio station, and then I ran my own show on MK Hospital Radio for about a year and a half too, I always thought broadcasting was where I wanted to work and I can really relate to one the one hand appearing as an extrovert as I love to communicate and talk, but underneath fairly self-conscious and anxious. I also love how Lisa has taken this huge life challenge, which I am only giving you the briefest of introductions on, and uses it now as a teaching opportunity to support others through, in her own words “wounds can become wisdom”

My anxiety and insomnia have really been blown open since having children, previously I think I always thought of myself as a worrier from a family of worriers, but these days (my boys are now 5 years old) I feel so much more aware of my triggers and holistic health and how that helps me, after being on prescribed sleep medication for 18 months,  anti-depressants for a couple of months and managing to get off both when furloughed from my last job during the pandemic I have learnt so much through this journey. I’m still very much a work in progress, but I’m so glad that people are talking about mental health in such an open and honest way now and I hope that through this podcast and the guests which I have over the coming months I can do my part to normalise it all more and offer some things which have helped me, and learn some things too.

I’m excited about this conversation, I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

This was actually my 1st ever podcast guest feature, recorded before Christmas 2020. Hope you enjoy it.

I was so delighted to meet and be interviewed by Marla for her Little Bit of Lagom Podcast, a fellow eco-minded soul trying to do good in the world, I am so blessed to be part of this community of wonderful people and so value connecting with them in different ways.
