Gender Dysphoria is a crippling mental illness now labeled by the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). It has become closely associated with the "Transgender Craze," which is spreading rapidly and specifically with teenage girls. In this episode, Daniel and Jared rely heavily on a book entitled, Irresistible Damage by Abigail Shrier. 33. Sexuality & Gender, Pt. 2

Last year Carl Trueman published a landmark resource on today's culture called, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self. He devotes an entire chapter to Sigmund Freud's influence toward the sexual revolution. In this episode, we provide historical background to Freud's debilitating view of one's sexual identity before looking at a broad perspective of homosexuality in the Bible. Enjoy!

31. Interpretations of the Resurrection

31. Interpretations of the Resurrection

Today the historicity of the resurrection is basically denied. Modern interpretations do not believe it was an historical event as much as an experience for the disciples or a myth. However, it hasn't always been this way through church history. Join Jared and Daniel for a special episode as we discuss modern and post-modern approaches to the resurrection and how the Truth is actually historical.

30. Pornography & Women

30. Pornography & Women

Typically, we think of addictions and struggles with pornography solely as a male issue. In reality, pornography is greatly affecting women as well. In this episode, we asked two women to join us and discuss this difficult topic: Mady Boultinghouse, director of TulsaBible Kids, and Linda Cosgrove, leader over women's discipleship at Tulsa Bible Church. We hope this helps you and your family deal with a sensitive topic.

29. Pornography & Men

29. Pornography & Men

In this episode we continue to discuss the all too common sexual sin of lust and specifically the dangers of pornography. For Christian men the statistics of those who are addicted to pornography are startling. We want to address this issue and hopefully provide some counsel. Join Jared and Daniel as they tackle the male struggle with pornography.

28. History of Pornography

28. History of Pornography

The sex industry rivals any other in America in terms of money-generating and entertainment. However, few people realize when pornography started and how it came to dominate in a country once laden with moral structures and Judeo-Christian roots. How did pornography become so popular? When did it become so accessible? Answering these questions can equip us to defend our families from the damaging effects of pornography. Join Jared and Daniel as they explore a history of pornography in America.

27. Addictions, Pt. 2

Samson had an addiction problem. Solomon had an addiction problem. The rich young ruler had an addiction problem. Addictions are found throughout the Scriptures, and the reason they are such big issues is because they are all sin issues. Join Daniel and Jared as they continue for Season 3 of Hidden God with Addictions, Pt. 2.

23. Culture Crisis, Pt. 6: Transform

23. Culture Crisis, Pt. 6: Transform

We've considered models on how to engage the culture, church history regarding this topic, and looked at passages of Scripture. The question still remains: What's the best way for the church in America to be about transforming our culture with the Gospel. Join Jared and Daniel as they conclude this series on Cultural Crisis by looking briefly at the life of Christ.

22. Culture Crisis, Pt. 5: Engage

22. Culture Crisis, Pt. 5: Engage

God has always had a mission to reach the world with His Truth and reconcile sinful man to His presence. His mission didn't start in Matt 28.18-20. Instead, it goes all the way back to Gen 1.26-31. Nevertheless, the practical application of God's mission has shifted from the OT to the NT. No Scripture shows the difference quite like Acts 17.16-31. Join Jared and Daniel as they continue their series, "Culture Crisis."

21. Cultural Crisis, Pt. 4: Contextualizing the Gospel

21. Cultural Crisis, Pt. 4: Contextualizing the Gospel

Join Jared and Daniel as they continue the series, Cultural Crisis. In this episode we introduce the concept of contextualization. Our main question is: How can the church teach about sin, when we live in a culture that no longer recognizes nor understands that term? Even the definition of "good" is now subjective to postmodern listeners, making it almost impossible to communicate the reality of sin.

We look at Nehemiah 1 and explore how his vision started as the Israelites rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem. Enjoy.

19. Cultural Crisis, Pt. 3: Defining Culture

19. Cultural Crisis, Pt. 3: Defining Culture

Engaging the culture is one of the hardest battles fought in churches today. How do we engage? Aren't we risking our testimony and holiness? How should we engage and to what extent can we engage without adapting worldly influences? Several models of cultural engagement have been knowingly or unknowingly used to reach and/or transform the culture with the Truth of the Gospel. Join Jared and Daniel as they continue in part 3 of their most recent series, Cultural Crisis.

18. Cultural Crisis, Pt. 2: Models

18. Cultural Crisis, Pt. 2: Models

As we discuss cultural issues and how the church can effectively engage the culture, it's helpful to provide a framework for discussion. In this episode, Daniel and Jared follow the works of Richard Niebuhr, Christ and Culture, as well as Tim Keller, Center Church, and give an overview of how the church has engaged the culture through history.

17. Cultural Crisis

17. Cultural Crisis

What are the most difficult issues facing the church today? Are they theological issues regarding doctrine and understanding Scripture? Are they church government issues of structure? Maybe they're political issues! You might be surprised, but we don't believe any of those are the most concerning issues in today's local churches. The issue we have identified is, in some sense, underneath all of them. Join us this week as we discuss one of the most pervasive issues in churches today.

16. Christianity in the Workplace

16. Christianity in the Workplace

Martin Luther was the famous Reformer who taught the priesthood of all believers. He thought that the milkman and the blue collar worker were just as much priests as were the church clergy; therefore, they had just as important job of representing Christ! How do we effectively evangelize in the workplace? What can we do to be a better witness of the Gospel in an increasingly secular culture? Join Daniel and Jared as well as their first guest, KC Boultinghouse, in this episode of Hidden God.

Season 2; Ep1: Value of Vulnerability

Season 2; Ep1: Value of Vulnerability

Welcome to season 2 of Hidden God! One of the hot button items in our culture is transparency and vulnerability. The next generation values this item because they value authenticity. Even though it seems simple enough to focus on being transparent, it's not easy for leaders, pastors, or other people in high profile positions. Why do we prefer to stay hidden, when there seems to be a high value on vulnerability?

#14: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 6 "Is Christianity Hard or Easy?"

#14: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 6 "Is Christianity Hard or Easy?"

When Jesus said, "If anyone wishes to follow after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me," he was asking for complete surrender. Yet, Matthew 11.28, "Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest," doesn't communicate surrender in the same way. How do we reconcile the surrender aspect of discipleship with the free gift of salvation? Join Jared and Daniel as we talk about the costs of following Christ.

#13: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 5 "Three Parts of Morality"

#13: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 5 "Three Parts of Morality"

Christianity and morality...are they the same? Are they different? If Christianity is distinct from morality, how? In a day when most young people who grow up in the church confusing the Gospel with morality, CS Lewis offered a distinction. Join Jared and Daniel as they discuss morality and the Gospel by continuing the conversation through Mere Christianity.

#12: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 4 "The Great Sin"

#12: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 4 "The Great Sin"

Pride...ugh....everyone has it! The more we see pride in others, the more we dislike it in ourselves. Lewis calls God the complete anti-God state of mind. The one good element of pride is that God can use it to draw us to Himself! Join Jared and Daniel as they discuss pride in one of Lewis' most well-known chapters in Mere Christianity. The sin beneath every other sin is a spiritual cancer and simply affects everyone.

#11(Edited): Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 3, The Shocking Alternative

#11(Edited): Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 3, The Shocking Alternative

What is sin? How should we define it? What about free will? If God knew that man's free will would lead us to sin, why did he create us in the first place? Join Jared and Daniel as they continue in Book 2 of Lewis' classic, Mere Christianity.

Perhaps no other section in Mere Christianity addresses issues of the Gospel and the doctrine of Christ like Book 2. Our hope is to show how Lewis explains the truth of the Gospel in a pluralistic, post-modern world.

#10: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 2: The Invasion

#10: Dialogues with CS Lewis, Pt. 2: The Invasion

CS Lewis' classic, Mere Christianity, continues to have a life-changing impact on the world. In this episode, they turn to Lewis to challenge the modern concept of Dualism. Join Jared and Daniel as they discuss the limitations of Dualism and how Christianity is distinct!

#9: Dialogues with CS Lewis; Pt 1: God's Goodness

#9: Dialogues with CS Lewis; Pt 1: God's Goodness

CS Lewis has made a profound impact on Christianity as an apologist, writer, and philosopher. In this series, Daniel and Jared dialogue through some of Lewis' strongest arguments in Mere Christianity. Is there really a divine standard for morality? How can we know? Where does the natural law lead us as we attempt to discover the goodness of God? What does God's goodness teach us about ourselves?

#8: Race & Gospel

#8: Race & Gospel

Almost 99 years removed from the infamous Tulsa Race Riots, and our nation faces another "racial" issue. How do we respond to the murder of George Floyd? How can we be more missional rather than fighting racism with racism? Join Daniel and Jared as we talk about the insufficient solutions to a sin problem that goes back to Genesis 3 and 4.

Jun 05, 202037:30
#7: Church Splits

#7: Church Splits

Unfortunately, local churches are not immune from the devastation of church splits. In fact, it's likely more common for churches to experience a split than otherwise. Join Jared and Daniel as we attempt to tackle a somber issue from a big picture, panoramic view of God's glory. Despite man's best attempts to destroy God's church, the Wonderful Counselor will use the worst of circumstances to create beauty from ashes.

#6: Theology of the Cross, Pt. 4

#6: Theology of the Cross, Pt. 4

In this episode, Daniel and Jared wrap up their discussion on Martin Luther's, "Theology of the Cross." Q: How does God particularly make Himself known to people? A: Through suffering. The spiritual dynamics of suffering go much deeper than the pat-answers we are accustomed to hearing. God will certainly use suffering for good, but He didn't originally create man or creation to suffer. Suffering was a result of the Fall. Nonetheless, Scripture affirms that God takes what Satan meant for evil and turns it for our good. Enjoy this final episode on Luther's Theology of the Cross.

#4: Theology of the Cross, Pt. 2

#4: Theology of the Cross, Pt. 2

In this episode Daniel and Jared continue their discussion on Martin Luther's, "Theology of the Cross." Isaiah 45.15 says, "Surely you (the LORD) are a God who hides himself." How is it possible that God both reveals and hides Himself at the same time? This apparent contradiction is one of the Bible's greatest paradoxes. You'll be surprised to see it fleshed out from the Garden to New Creation.

#3: Theology of the Cross, Pt. 1

#3: Theology of the Cross, Pt. 1

"I know God because of my personal experience last Saturday night." "Yes, but I know God because of His Word." "Both of you are crazy, I know God because of nature and His creation." How exactly has God revealed Himself? How can we know for sure whether God has really spoken to us or we just ate some bad pizza that is stirring our gut?

Jared and Daniel continue to explore Martin Luther's, "Theology of the Cross." In this episode, we focus Luther's understanding of God's revelation; Namely, that God has revealed Himself and the task of the theologian is to understand how God has graciously given His revelation.
