In this episode of The Overweight Mind, Neuroplasticity and it’s link to successful and lasting Weight Loss.


Neuroplasticity refers to the lifelong capacity of the brain to change and rewire itself in response to the stimulation of learning and experience.


The wiring together of brain cells makes the new behavior feel routine and easier over time. It requires about 10,000 repetitions — translating to a minimum of three months of practice — to develop a new neural pathway and master a new pattern of behavior. This timeframe can fluctuate as each brain is unique. 


New science in relation to people being motivated to make changes shows the following data: 


People who were part of an accountability group ~ coaching ~ or mentorship program had better results and stayed with the changes longer than those who tried on their own. 


The idea that people have to be motivated to start is completely false. Most people who made dietary changes started before they were motivated and built momentum and motivation as they had success.

Seek Discomfort and Embrace Failure with Hugh Huffaker

Hugh Huffaker is an entrepreneur and founder of multiple companies in the health and wellness space. One of his first endeavors, Cause Medic, a CBD skincare brand focused solely on the spa, health club and fitness industries, began after his mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In today’s episode I discuss the importance of quality sleep and the crucial role it plays in weight loss. 

Here are a few reasons why sleep is so important:

Sleep affects appetite hormones: Sleep deprivation can disrupt the balance of hormones that regulate hunger and fullness, including leptin and ghrelin. This can lead to increased feelings of hunger and cravings for high-calorie foods, which can make it more difficult to stick to a healthy eating plan.

Sleep affects metabolism: Sleep loss can also disrupt the body's metabolism, making it harder to burn calories and lose weight. This is because sleep deprivation can lead to insulin resistance, which can impair the body's ability to use glucose for energy.

Sleep affects energy levels: When you're tired, you're more likely to skip workouts or physical activity, which can slow down weight loss progress.

Sleep affects stress levels: Chronic sleep deprivation can increase stress levels, which can trigger the release of cortisol, a hormone that can promote fat storage and make it harder to lose weight.

Overall, getting enough high-quality sleep is an important part of any weight loss program. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night, and prioritize good sleep habits

In today’s episode I discuss the idea/concept of “Aggressive Patience ” ~ TY to Andy Frisella for initiating the thought process. 


I don’t know if this will make any sense, but here ya go ~ brain dump by Jay: 


The aggressive pursuit of success (goals, dreams, purpose, happiness, wealth, health, positive connections: AKA what I refer to as ABUNDANCE)…Coupled with the peace of mind that I’m on the right path with the right people pursuing my purpose and that my vision for my life is so big it’s going to take time (the patience piece of the puzzle). 


And during that “time,” I can find/have fulfillment in the journey/process, knowing that what I desire is a moving target based on the expansion of thoughts, abilities, resources, and opportunities. So as I grow, it also grows with me. 


And based on this belief system, I will never truly reach “that place” in time because it is infinite in its scoop, but so are the rewards of being on the path, so it’s a net positive outcome. 


I think it’s my rationale for doing everything I can to be successful and wondering if it is enough and the logic of knowing that true greatness takes time and patience and the belief that my life as it stands today is abundant and awesome. 


This might be the conundrum of all that seek more ~ not sure, but I suppose the certainty of being uncertain keeps me wanting more.
