The Jazz are still out with coronavirus, but Jazz Gaming is just getting started

What's this? Two podcasts in a week? Is something weird happening in the world?

Yes, it is. The Utah Jazz and the NBA continue their hiatus due to coronavirus concerns, but Utah Jazz Gaming is ready to open its season. The Jazz Gamers tip off the preseason 3-on-3 tournament Three For All Showdown on Tuesday, and head coach Jelani "Comp" Mitchell joined the podcast to break down the team, the league and what the future of his sport looks like in the short term as the only game in town.

The Un-hiatus: Coronavirus quarantine can't stop us

Happy Quarantine Day!

Coronavirus got you down? Maybe the lack of live sports just has you down? KSL's Ryan Miller and Sean Walker are here for you. We'll recap the #CoronavirusShutdown that started with Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz and the NBA, and spread to every major sport in North America (including Ryan's beloved NWSL).

Then, we take a look at the KSL.com Board Game, where Sean is irrationally upset at the seed lines.

Episode 22: Wrapping up the USA's FIBA World Cup disappointment, and Jazzmen in SI's Top 100 NBA players

Ryan Miller is back in Utah, which means he and Sean Walker from KSL.com break down the United States' recent demoralizing FIBA World Cup finish. Good news, though, Jazz fans: the trio of Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles had a really good summer in China. Did Donovan earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team roster for Tokyo 2020? And who had the best summer, overall?

The guys then turn their attention to the upcoming season, and to prepare for it, SI.com recently posted their Top 100 NBA players — a list that includes Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles, and new additions Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic. Let's break it down together.

Episode 20: The Slow-Your-Roll Jazz Newcomer Draft

Episode 20: The Slow-Your-Roll Jazz Newcomer Draft

Oh, the offseason. The time of unblemished records, endless optimism and hope — beautiful, glorious hope. The Jazz will enter the 2019-20 season coming off what many see as the team’s best offseason ever.

They got their point guard in Mike Conley. They got a versatile stretch four/wing in Bojan Bogdanovic. They found a replacement for Derrick Favors in Ed Davis and even Jeff Green. And got a former lottery pick that could still develop in Emmanuel Mudiay.

So, yeah, the Jazz might as well start planning a parade around Salt Lake next June. Or maybe not...

This isn’t the first time the Jazz have been hyped coming into the year (though, it’s hard to find a time that there has been this much excitement from national media and Las Vegas for a Jazz team). Some worked out. Others? Not so much.

On this week’s Jazz Shorts podcast, KSL.com’s Sean Walker and Ryan Miller draft their teams of the most disappointing players in Jazz history — players that created a buzz but didn’t quite live up to expectations — and give their burning takes on who of the newbies are most likely to be join the list.

Episode 17: Double dose of Carlos Boozer

KSL.com's Ryan Miller has some breaking news about Carlos Boozer and the Big 3, then he and Sean Walker run down the best free-agent signings of the NBA summer, starting at the top of a loaded Western Conference and ending with their three least-liked squads in the league. Where do the Jazz stack up? And where did Sean spend his summer vacation?

Episode 16: This Week in Donovan Mitchell

Episode 16: This Week in Donovan Mitchell

KSL.com's Ryan Miller punks Sean Walker by telling him that Mike Conley followed him on Instagram. Just kidding; but Mike Conley really did follow Miye Oni on the 'gram, and you should, too.

Now that the NBA draft is over, let's turn our attention to the NBA Summer League. Should you go? Why should you go? Who is there to watch? And also, is Donovan Mitchell the most marketable Utah Jazz player in NBA history? Ryan thinks so; Sean think it's Jeff Hornacek. Or did he? Download now and find it.

Episode 13: Donovan Mitchell is a true American, and the Utah Jazz turn 40

Ryan and Sean are back to discuss Donovan Mitchell's callup to the U.S. national team for this summer's training camp. Will he be selected for the full squad for FIBA play? And if he does make it, should he accept it? These are all questions we need to know.

Carter Williams stops by to discuss his birthday tribute to the Utah Jazz, who turned 40 years old this past weekend. What do we learn from looking back at the Jazz's move from New Orleans? And what does the future hold in Utah (hint: a lot, thanks to Gail Miller and the legacy trust)?

Finally, is D'Angelo Russell going to join his good friend Donovan in Salt Lake City? Sean hopes so ... but not for the reasons you are probably thinking.  And did Sean just agree to buy a parakeet? Download now to find out how Ryan pulled off that accomplishment.

Episode 8: He gone or he good? The offseason begins

Ryan and Sean are back for another not-so-short Jazz Short.

The Utah Jazz are  officially in the NBA offseason, and big changes are coming to the squad? Or are they? A lot of players are going to be out of contract this summer ... but will all of them come back? Kyle Korver? Georges Niang? Ricky Rubio? And the big fish, Derrick Favors? Is "he gone," or is "he good"? The guys have takes.

What's next for the Jazz? And what's next for Donovan Mitchell?

Episode 7: The End is Here

Episode 7: The End is Here

KSL.com Utah Jazz beat writer Ryan Miller calls in discuss Utah's 100-93 loss to Houston for a 4-1 series loss, ending a season of promise in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Was the season a success or a failure? Is Quin Snyder a mad scientist of a coach, or just mad? Is Donovan Mitchell more Damian Lillard or Tyreke Evans? And what can we expect from the future of the Jazz -- especially in 2019-20, but also beyond?

Finally, Mitchell once again went into "Good Guy" mode and stopped to help a car accident victim last Sunday. We said that we'd FOIA for the 911 call -- and here it is!

Episode 6: The Jazz are stayin' alive (stayin' alive)

Episode 6: The Jazz are stayin' alive (stayin' alive)

Jazz Shorts is stayin’ alive, and so are the Utah Jazz.

The Jazz got an unreal late-game performance from Donovan Mitchell, a streak-tastic early showing from Jae Crowder, and survived at home to force Game 5 against the Houston Rockets and avoid the dreaded playoff sweep with a 107-91 win Monday night in Salt Lake City.

But can they be more than a one-win wonder? We’re not saying the Jazz will make history as the first team to come back from a 3-0 deficit -- but we’re not NOT saying it, either. We’ll give you three seasons to believe before Wednesday night’s 6 p.m. MDT tipoff in Texas.

Episode 5: The Utah Jazz 2019 playoff run is only mostly dead

KSL.com Utah Jazz beat writer Ryan Miller takes you to a funeral -- for the Jazz playoff hopes, after Utah helped James Harden miss his first 15 shots and found a way to lose Saturday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference first round series.

Donovan Mitchell took a lot of shots. He made some. He missed some. He's beating himself up for the ones he missed? Should he? Kyle Korver doesn't think so

Episode 3: Is the Jazz playoff run over as Houston goes up 2-0?

Episode 3: Is the Jazz playoff run over as Houston goes up 2-0?

KSL.com Utah Jazz beat writer Ryan Miller is tired, but he's joined by producer Sean to recap the (often) painful past 24 hours in Houston, where the Jazz went down 0-2 to the Rockets in an NBA playoffs first-round series Wednesday night, April 17, 2019. James Harden had his third career postseason triple-double, and news flash: he's good.

But Utah's problems in this series haven't come in guarding Harden; Ricky Rubio actually did an OK job of that. It's been on offense, where the Jazz have struggled. Who knew? The Rockets can defend, too.

Ryan also got to visit the spot of The Shot, where John Stockton "sends the Utah Jazz to the NBA finals." But it wasn't in Houston's basketball arena — at least not anymore. Unless you are from Houston, you won't believe what they've done with the place recently.

Episode 2: Rockets blow by Jazz in Game One

Episode 2: Rockets blow by Jazz in Game One

Welp, that didn't go according to plan.

The Utah Jazz went down to Houston for Game One of the Western Conference opening round -- but
lost to the Houston Rockets, 122-90. It's the worst postseason loss of the Quin Snyder era. So is it time to panic? Or just time to expect some serious Game 2 adjustments on James Harden and Co.? Ryan and Sean are here to talk you off a cliff -- or spin this loss in a favorable direction. Maybe.
