Heinlein Marathon short - John Scalzi's Essay about Modern Youth and Robert Heinlein

Heinlein Marathon short - John Scalzi's Essay about Modern Youth and Robert Heinlein

I talk about a recent article by John Scalzi who had a similar experience to me when introducing juvie Heinlein to his teenaged daughter. I also talk through three books that I really enjoyed by Ottessa Moshfegh.

Brian Catling's The Vorrh - a Review

Brian Catling's The Vorrh - a Review

I reread the surrealist fantasy novel The Vorrh. What did I think? Listen and find out! Also, I apparently have Escape Clause books for sale. And I was dead for a while! Cool, eh?

Also the next Heinlein Marathon book is announced :)

Episode 16 Heinlein Marathon - Friday!

Episode 16 Heinlein Marathon - Friday!

Meet Marjorie Friday, artificial person and courier and follow her though a late Heinlein adventure of excerable sex and brunch with a lot of detail on brunch and a lot of awkward dialogue about sex and some other poorly defined stuff... Still, she's an interesting character. Check out my review of this 1982 Heinlein story.

Why hasn't there been a new Heinlein Marathon update in a while? Well, let me tell you... Also, some thoughts on superhero fiction, comics, and movies. This is a random episode but I hope you will dig it.

Heinlein Marathon: Starship Troopers

Heinlein Marathon: Starship Troopers

Hey it is the long awaited deep dive into Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, my all time favorite book and all time least favorite movie! You can also find the deep text related to this review at my Tumblr page - https://www.tumblr.com/blog/jrderego where a more comprehensive text will be uploaded and you can also read 5000 words about why I dislike the new film version of All Quiet on the Western Front!

Episode 14 (I counted this time) A fragment from Jobber

Episode 14 (I counted this time) A fragment from Jobber

While prepping the Team Shikaragaki volume I found a bit I cut out of Jobber back when I was getting it ready to submit to Demiurges and Demigods in Space and thought it was a fun bit to share. This is that.

Episode 9 (I have no idea really...) Jobber!

Episode 9 (I have no idea really...) Jobber!

Here is the oft promised rarely delivered audio version of Jobber. I did all the voices so you get what you get. The book where this appears can be purchased here  - https://www.monadnockunderground.com/product/demiurges-and-demigods-in-space-vol-1/  go get it! It's a great book and one definitely worth a few of your bucks as it will give them the capital to create another book of excellent short stories.

Enjoy

Giant Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong episode

Giant Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong episode

I take a few minutes to update listeners on the state of the Heinlein marathon, reveal the next book to get the podcast treatment, and divert a bit to talk about giant monster movies and the recent release of Godzilla vs. Kong.

Heinlein Marathon: Methuselah's Children

Heinlein Marathon: Methuselah's Children

This is the story where Heinlein introduced his most written about, and longest living character, Lazarus Long. Join me as I dissect this 1958 work. Thanks to John Hattan for sending me the audio version of the book too!

Heinlein Marathon: The Cat Who Walks Through Walls

Heinlein Marathon: The Cat Who Walks Through Walls

The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, published in 1985 is the second to last Heinlein novel. It's a rough read, and this podcast explores the roughness. I didn't like this book, but I don't think reading it was a bad idea and I enjoyed the experience. Like Heinlein? Or this book specifically? Let me know! Read the text review which is different than this podcast in content and depth here - https://www.tumblr.com/blog/jrderego You can also interact with me on Instagram and listen to me on the TWWWBLY podcast every week.

Heinlein Marathon: Starman Jones

Heinlein Marathon: Starman Jones

This is my review of Starman Jones (1953) the second book in the Heinlein marathon. You'll notice that I had to edit in "max" in place of "sam" a few times because for some reason I couldn't keep those two character's names straight. Hope it isn't too distracting.

Heinlein Marathon: Podkayne of Mars Review

Heinlein Marathon: Podkayne of Mars Review

This is the first of what I hope will be a whole bunch of (less rambly) reviews of Robert Heinlein's novels as I reread them as a seasoned adult and not a starry eyed 20 year old. The first one here is Podkayne of Mars, which I loved something like 30 years ago. Do I like it as much now? How do I feel about Heinlein's prose today? You'll never know unless you listen.

Also, announcement about  the upcoming release of the Monadnock Underground release of Demiurges and Demigods in Space where my story Jobber will lead the pack. I have created a podcast version of that story and have a long interview with the publishers of that anthology coming. In the meantime, subscribe to Monadnock Underground and see what comes up. I will be cross posting here.

You can reach me on Instagram and Facebook as Jeffrey R. DeRego (I think, I dunno, I never search for myself), and on Tumblr too where I have an active text blog called "Crap". Go read it.

Episode 5 - The Clonepod Production of The Sojourn of Taizen Kiiro

This is a re-post of the Clonepod produced Union Dues: Team Shikaragaki story The Sojourn of Taizen Kiiro. I kept all of their excellent production intact and added some commentary before and after the Clonepod episode (which was their episode 22).

Episode 2 - Reposting the Clonepod version of The Saga of Tam Suji

Episode 2 - Reposting the Clonepod version of The Saga of Tam Suji

This episode contains the entire Clonepod production of The Saga of Tam Suji. I am including all of their work in this after my introduction so that the excellent production and hard work they put into it is not lost. This is one of my favorite of the Union Dues stories because of the tie to Mighty Joe Young and how Tam has his revelation that family isn't necessarily tied to who birthed you at just the right moment. It also has one of my favorite written lines. See if you can guess what it is.
