Life: Behind the Scene

This discussion is centered around a huge skill gap that is being represented in today's workforce. Critical Thinking  - what is it? This is not just a "millennial" issues, this is something that has been encountered in every generation. We talk about if this is not your nature, what are some tips to be better at critical thinking.

In the ongoing struggle to control my self-thought, I realized that I have to say no to myself as well as others who might start to stress me out!

After a failed attempt to go a full month with "no screens", I set out to discover how excessive screen time can harm children. What I found is that my child is not the only one in danger, I am as well! Also, as the parent, that I must model how I want my child to relate to social media.

I always said I wasn't having kids, and part of that was not getting married. Here I am blessed with a life and family that I never planned for. I could never imagine my future self with any of the guys that I met/dated. Scott has shown me that ultimately, my decision was right in how he has made God and our marriage a priority. Like I mentioned last week, marriage isn't easy and this step-blended family deal escalates that. I am thankful for my loving husband, Scott.

Co-host, Rosie, is a recent college grad who is experiencing what many experience after graduating from college when the hunt for a job turns out to be a bit longer than expected. 

This multi-generational discussion not only addresses Rosie's specific job hunt but also discusses how to determine which position is right for you,  is it always right to hold out for the "best" job and how to answer that insanely hard question, "why should I/we hire you over the other candidates".!

Valentine's Day - "the day of love". However, that looks different in each household. As a new wife, this Valentine's Day was spent learning more about how to have a successful marriage. But also it came up about celebrating Valentine's Day with kids, so I was curious if this is something other people do. Also for single parents, this can be a difficult time, so I wanted to acknowledge that as well. 

Lastly, this is a friendly reminder -  Moms, Make sure to remember to take a moment for some self-care!!!

I loved having a discussion on what is the "best age to have a kid" but also talking about what were the struggles and seeing the difference in age and marital status. We not only discussed the challenges but our favorite things about being moms!

Every adult has to decide what faith looks like in their life. I am thankful during the heavy times that life throws at me that I have my faith to carry me through.

Law #4 Always Say Less than Necessary

I am excited to wrap up episode 2 of 2 and cover the last of the 5 languages: GIFTS and ACTS OF SERVICE. I love how authors Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell wrote “The 5 Languages of Love for Children” and gave amazing examples of how to show love to your child in these 5 different areas.

Apparently, there is value to not being an open book. I never really thought about the fact that it is not a trait that people admire, I kind of have prided myself about being one to NOT play games so this is totallly new way of thinking.

Law #2 - Never Put Too Much Trust In Friends, Learn How To Use Enemies
I like the phrase "with friends like that, who needs enemies?". I think we mix up friendships with our assumptions and expectations and that can lead to disaster. Instead, Rober Greene says, look for enemies to become allies because basically you know who they are and what they are about. Another point of discussion is how this law applies when sometimes "enemies" are mindsets, family traits or illnesses.

My husband, Scott, and I took the quiz to determine our love language before and after we got married. How it shows us our differences got me thinking of how everyone feels loved differently and how that varies from person to person. The book 5 Languages of Love for Children has made me stop and think about how I show my love to my daughter.

Mom's are soooo bussssy! With all of the juggling, many of us find ourselves exhausted and not our best self for our family.  This year I am challenging myself to take more time to breathe and "recharge my batteries". This takes time and effort to shut the internal dialogue off of all that needs to get done but I am working to be intentional and minimize my stress.

Humans are complex. Relationships are complex. Life is complex. How we navigate life changes based on the season we are in. This passion project was born as a reflection of all that goes on behind the scene of life in all the roles that we play. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, entrepreneur, friend and much more depending on who, what, when, where and why. The hope for this podcast is to peek behind the scene of the complex journey of life and our various roles and provide inspiration, life lessons, and community to others.
