Music and nature are strongly connected. Just as the view from a mountain summit or the crunch of fallen leaves can evoke joy or a sense of nostalgia, so too does the echo of a bow across strings or the harmony of a chorus of voices. Today we will be listening to stories from local musicians, learn about their music, their inspiration, and will even get to listen to some of their music.

As heard in Part 1, In August 2011 Tropical Storm Irene produced heavy damage over much of New York and in Keene it was devastating. The storm is ranked as one of the costliest in the history of New York State, with the impact on our residents' lives felt to this day. In fact, with Route 73 washed out, we were isolated and landslides on the High Peaks were prevalent. The firsthand accounts you will hear in two podcasts were difficult for some to tell even now, but once again, this community came together to get through unimaginable challenges.

Adirondack hiking is a phrase that elicits high emotion these days, in ways you might not expect. Why? Our mountains have made the Town of Keene a destination since the late 1800s, but are also why our roads are too crowded in summer and emergency services stretched. Many of us are working on the solutions to share our magnificent mountains in a better way. These stories of Adirondack hiking from the 1800s to the present will help you understand their almost magical impact and how important it is to preserve them for future generations. Note that a 46’er has summited all the Adirondack High Peaks, each over 4,000 rugged feet high.
