S3 27: Owning Our Needs

S3 27: Owning Our Needs

In this episode, Brooke and Jesie get to the difficulty behind asking for help and discover together that it is often difficult to own and articulate our own needs. We often communicate about our needs in passive ways, making room for rejection, just in case those needs aren't met.

This week's invitation: Can you connect to your deepest desire? Notice the judgmental voices that may come up. Can you notice your body's response to that thought exploration?

S3 26: The Benefit of Asking for Help

S3 26: The Benefit of Asking for Help

When the bravest version of us can see what we need to do next, sometimes the answer is to make a brave ask. Most of us are comfortable with offering support and help to others but struggle to receive it ourselves. We are all, always navigating something new. When we allow others to come alongside us in our learning, we not only create community, but we increase intimacy.

This week's invitation: Consider your relationships. Where might there be an imbalance in giving support or asking for support? Can you allow yourself to make a brave ask?

S3 25: The Bravest Version of You

In this episode, Jesie and Brooke explore how we can elevate above our initial reactions. We often find ourselves turning to a passive protection of self or an aggressive assertion of self. What does it mean to allow our bravest self to expand our options of response to a balanced and aligned action?

This week's invitation: Can you shorten your focus and then ask what the bravest version of you would do?

S3 21: The Emerging Me

In this episode, Jesie and Brooke explore what it means to allow the version of us we've discovered through shadow and golden shadow work to fully emerge. What does it mean to release the pull of productivity and be still enough to allow the "emerging self" to spring forward?

This week's invitation: Instead of following the rules that have been handed to you, let the "mud" of productivity and people-pleasing settle. Allow space and clarity for your emerging self to spring forward.

S3 17: Using Choice to Regulate Your Nervous System

In this episode, Brooke and Jesie discuss a surprising and empowering way to help regulate your nervous system. Identifying points of activated internal choice can allow us to return to safety, even if some of our circumstances have not changed.

This week's invitation: Notice and name where you might be in your nervous system activation, and then think about one small intentional activated choice you might make to help yourself come out of that activated place.

S3 16: Allowing Change in Others

S3 16: Allowing Change in Others

In this episode, Jesie and Brooke expand the idea of change. While we've explored the idea of what it means to change within ourselves, what is it like to hold the change of another with curiosity and grace? We can hold the belief that all relational change signals pain, but in reality, we are healthiest when we welcome our own change as well as the change of those around us.

This week's invitation: Recognize something that is changing in someone very close to you. See if you can be curious about what is coming up for you as you watch that change. What stories are you telling yourself about what that change means for you or them? Can you approach their change with just a little more curiosity?

S3 15: The Spiral Staircase of Healing

S3 15: The Spiral Staircase of Healing

In this episode, Brooke and Jesie talk frankly about the work of healing. We can use the phrases "curing" and healing interchangeably, but they are deeply different from one another. When we engage in the healing, we are journeying-climbing a staircase of learning, steady self-trust, and becoming.

This week's invitation: Find some time to slow down, to be still. And see what happens when you can connect to a former version of you. Notice all the things you have learned to be where you are today. Is there anything you want to say to that version of yourself about where you stand today?

A bonus invitation: In three lines, what would you want to say to a former version of yourself? We'd love to hear your ideas!

S3 12: Releasing Resistance to Change

In this episode, Jesie and Brooke discuss what it looks like to realign with values, even when obstacles present themselves. Navigating new pathways is rarely smooth, and resistance can make them rockier. How can we anticipate a rocky path, release resistance, and realign with our values?

This week's invitation: Can you just imagine where you want to be or how you want to feel? What could shift and change in you, even if the circumstances of your life didn't change? And can you identify an obstacle and what you might do if that showed up, to still move towards where you want to be?

S3 10: What the Darkness Can Teach Us

S3 10: What the Darkness Can Teach Us

In this episode, Brooke and Jesie open the idea that perhaps the natural darkness of this wintering season has something to teach us. Leaning in with intention through the darkness, sitting with all parts of ourselves. Curiously identifying what we would like to release while in this dark season allows us to show up fully in preparation for the light to come.

This week's invitation: Can you let the dark reveal the need, and let the light that is within you create the ritual to make that light bigger and brighter?

S3 9: Creating Rituals for an Intentional Life

S3 9: Creating Rituals for an Intentional Life

In this episode, Jesie and Brooke explore the idea of how intentional rituals can have incredible benefits for our well-being. From increasing a sense of control to mitigating the heavy impact of grief, ritual can allow us to have a nourishing intentional structure. Finding ritual, even in the mundane tasks can help us to live a more intentional life.

"Ritual is the act of sanctifying action-even ordinary action-so that it has meaning. I can light a candle because I need the light or because the candle represents the light I need.” -Christina Baldwin

This week's invitation: One, think about the rituals that already exist. The routines and habits you can inject some intention into and notice how they begin to feel different to you. Two, think about the mundane things-your commute, your morning or evening, and think about what happens when you add one intentional practice to them.

If you’re interested in hearing more about ritual around grief and the holidays, join Jesie for a free mini-workshop on Saturday, November 18th from 10:00 am-11:00 am MST. To join, email Jesie at jesie@riverbendcolorado.com

S3 8: Creativity, The Foundation of You

S3 8: Creativity, The Foundation of You

In this episode, Brooke and Jesie deep dive into the benefit of creativity as a building block for authenticity. Creativity can create distance from the stories we've always told about ourselves and allow us to see ourselves and our world in new and healing ways.

"At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process arise from a single source. When you are an artist, you are a healer; a wordless trust of the same mystery is the foundation of your work and integrity." -Rachel Naomi Remen

This week's invitation: Create! We don't know what that will be for you, but give yourself just 5 minutes to sit in the quiet and notice what is stirring. Whether color, texture, thought, or memory. Just notice your creative self.

S3 7: The Power of Asking Better Questions

In this episode, Jesie and Brooke propose a pathway to connecting deeply with the wisdom of our bodies and exchanging judgment for curiosity. What happens when we follow the impulses of our bodies? Can cultivating curiosity help us better witness the sorrow of the world?

This week's invitation: When you notice you are in a place of judgment, watching, or fear, what is a better and more curious question you can ask about the person, the circumstance, or yourself?

S3 6: Tuning Into Body As Guide

In this episode, Brooke and Jesie discuss the idea of how noticing our core beliefs can allow us to more deeply understand the emotional experiences we are having. By accurately identifying our emotional experience and allowing our body to speak, we move closer to embodiment and physiological regulation.

This week's invitation: The invitation is simple, look around, be curious, sit as an observer, and notice your environment. What calls to you, what invites curiosity, where does your gaze or interest land?

Heart of Life is back for season three with some big questions and plenty of curiosity. If you had to live the last year of your life over and over again, would you? In this episode, Jesie and Brooke invite you to reflect on areas of regret and infuse them with hope, healing, and action. Are we living in a way aligned with our values? S2 26: Empowering the True Self with Brie Hawk (Part 2 of 2)

In this episode, Brianna Hawk, LPC joins Jesie and Brooke in this two-part series on empowerment. Brie shares about the power in reconnecting to our true (capital S) Self and learning to trust ourselves again.

An inspiring word from Brie: There is a wonderful Australian artist and activist named Lilla Watson who says, "If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” She captures the spirit of empowerment beautifully there. I get chills every time I read it.

Brie offered some amazing resources in this two-part series, they can be found at the links below:

Good Inside by Becky Kennedy (book) -- she also has an IG and podcast that are great.

No Bad Parts by Richard Schwartz (book) -- for folks wanting to explore Parts more deeply.
