3 strategies of a strong college recruit
3 strategies of a strong college recruit
1.  Do gymnastics or your sport for yourself  2.  Set goals  3.  Start with research, education and not sending emails to the college coaches  When you love the sport the college coach will feel this energy from you and it will impact your recruiting.  It is time to change the narrative in your head.  When you are young you can flip, jump and fly without the pressure, but when you reach the high school years it all changes.  Your body changes and things become harder.  Injuries happen and it is harder to please the club coach.  This is when you must ask yourself "why" are you going to gym each day.  Is it for college, parents or club coach?  If you lose your joy and purpose, it can begin to hold you back.   Writing down your goals is proven to bring about achieving them, in fact 20-30% more likely.  JH Girls I want you to journal tonight your long term goal for 2023 season, but you must break it down into monthly, weekly and daily goals.   Start your recruiting with research and education.  Lay the foundation of which schools are right for you first then go online and learn about the schools.  Picking the right camps and getting to know the college coaches is way more powerful than sending an email first.   www.jhicksconsulting.com Click on Get Started Fill out the forms page  An advisor will call you We are in your corner, JH Team

Standout at college summer camps
Standout at college summer camps
College summer camps are a place for you to gain exposure, take a tour and decide if this school and team could be right for you.  Be sure you take advantage of every opportunity when you are on a college campus. Does the gym have the right equipment with pits and soft landings? Is the campus in a safe and comfortable location for you?  Everyone is different and a college camp is the prefect opportunity to get a "vibe" to see if you feel this could be the right place for your 4 years of college. It is also important to realize there will be lots of recruits your graduation year at each camp.  The college coaches are comparing you to others to decide who will be just the right fit.  How do you stand out and make a lasting impression?  This podcast will give you the upper hand and prepare you to STAND OUT in the crowd.    If you want to become a JH Girl go to www.jhicksconsulting.com  and click on Get Started fill out a forms page and an advisor will give you a call.  Having a personal advisor to walk you through the roller coaster recruiting process can really take the highs and lows out of the process.

How college coaches look at COVID and setbacks during recruiting
How college coaches look at COVID and setbacks during recruiting
Mindset, is the key word in this podcast.  College coaches understand that you may have to take time off, have a gym shut down or have no competitions.  But, how are you managing yourself through this time?  What are you doing that shows them that you are working just as hard under new circumstances?  Have you pushed the reset button and created a new mindset?  Are you getting stronger, staying fit and conditioning for your comeback?  Show them everyday on your Instagram!  Prove to them that you have a plan and are focused on what you can be doing.  COVID, injuries and no competitions are opportunities for the college coach to see "who you really are under pressure".   Two JH Girls who are amazing examples of a strong mindset are:   1.  Taylor Devries 2.  Molly Neinstein  Check out their Instagram - follow them and be inspired  If you want to receive a personal advisor, go to www.jhicksconsulting.com click on Get Started fill out the forms page and we will give you a call

If you have the dream of competing for Stanford University or want to go into the medical field, this podcast is for you!  What I also enjoyed was our conversation as to why it is so hard for athletes to share their injuries with their coaches.  Tenaya West, competed for Stanford University on floor and beam and shares what it was like to be on a team that won the Pac 10 Championships and the NCAA Super Six.   So much insight into how the sport of gymnastics prepared her not only to do well at Stanford as a student but also becoming a surgeon.    Dr. Tenaya West is a podiatrist in Mountain View, California.  She specializes in the foot and ankle with an emphasis on pediatrics, sports medicine and trauma.

Why do gymnasts change their verbal commitments?
Why do gymnasts change their verbal commitments?
It is important to take your time before you verbally commit to a college team.  While it is an exciting time to be asked to verbally commit, you must do your due diligence so that your word to the college coach will stand through time.   1.  Be sure it is the right fit academically 2.  Keep videoing and communicating even after the verbal commitment  3.  Do you own vetting of the school, team and coaches
