The kid just doesn't care about Jesus
Assuming you agree that salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit, you'd probably feel comfortable with the idea that although you can take a child to Church, you can't make them love Jesus.
I became a Christian when I was 14, and I remember a strong lead from the Holy Spirit to jump out of my seat and accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I was bought up in a Christian home, so there was a cultural understanding, but in the end, I gave my life to Jesus without any parents or siblings alongside me.
Interestingly, I have siblings who grew up in the same home, but not all of them felt stirred towards becoming a Christian in a significant enough way for the decision to stick. I never spoke to my parents about it, but as a parent myself, I'm learning how different your children can be. I chose a life lived for Jesus, but not everyone does, and what are my wife and I supposed to do? Threaten our kids to make them want God?
You know that doesn't work.

Author bio
John Prockter is a youth worker, worship leader, preacher and author who lives and works in the West Midlands. John has worked with young people in full-time ministry for twenty-five years. First in Devon, where he pioneered in Christian school work with SWYM and then in Shropshire. In 2011, he became the first manager of the Bridgnorth Youth and Schools Project, and in 2017, he launched Catalyst Youth Trust. Over the years, John has trained and managed many people. Now he writes about his experiences, seeking to input into the lives of young people and adults he's known over the years. John is married to Louise and has three children. Stuck In The Mud is his first book.
Book Description
It happens daily, sometimes weekly, but always frustratingly. You're walking along perfectly happy with the world, and then out of nowhere, you're stuck.
What happened? Was it a relationship, or maybe an attitude you didn't know was lurking around your heart? In some ways, it didn't matter how you got stuck, the feeling still hurt your pride, and stopped you in your tracks.
Still, it doesn't matter how you got marooned here; you're not supposed to be stuck. In fact, despite the landmines we carefully manoeuvre, our lives work best when we feel free, supported and released into success.
This what the book you're holding is all about. To Jesus, you're a treasure, and if you're prepared to make him yours, I'm convinced you'll make it.
Restoration in the name of the game, being stuck in the mud can be a thing of the past.
