Thriving In Leadership

Thriving In Leadership

Listen in to Anthony Clowes, Amy Wyatt and Lee Jennings as they reflect on what has kept them healthy and fruitful as Christian Leaders over the last three decades.

"Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."

(1 Corinthians 9:25).

"Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules."

(2 Timothy 2.5)

"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

(Philippians 3.14)

Urgency, featuring Frank Hinds

Urgency, featuring Frank Hinds

Urgency is about being brutally honest about our present reality. What the level of urgency is in our congregations? If it is not very high, do we need to do something about it? If so - why, what can we do, and how should we go about it?

The Problem of Participation and the Challenge of Collaboration

The Problem of Participation and the Challenge of Collaboration

How do we help people work together as teams? In this episode of the Joshua Centre Podcast, Jack Shepherd and Dan Rogers explore how in leadership we can reflect the attitude of Jesus, described in Philippians 2, rather than that of the Lone Ranger or Father Christmas.

"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,"

(Philippians 2:3-9)

"The key to developing godly ambition is to keep an eye on our motivations… we know when we are seeking promotion in order to validate ourselves or find significance we lack elsewhere. These are the moments to check in with our motivations and our reasons for doing what we do” (Bishop Emma Ineson) Emma has written Ambition: What Jesus Said About Power, Success and Counting Stuff (London: SPCK, 2019).

Pointing People to the Good Shepherd

Pointing People to the Good Shepherd

In this episode of the Joshua Centre podcast, Dan Rogers and Jack Shepherd talk about how to point people to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, rather than other leaders.

"Tell me, you whom I love,
where you graze your flock
and where you rest your sheep at midday.
Why should I be like a veiled woman
beside the flocks of your friends?

If you do not know, most beautiful of women,
follow the tracks of the sheep
and graze your young goats
by the tents of the shepherds."

(Song of Songs 1:7-8)
