hijab in highschool
you might have listened to ayah in our last episode of season 1, "hijab is tough love", well in season 2 we complete that conversation and speak about how hijab feels like in high school + stories & ways to effectively respond to people who ask about your hijab. The way you first wear the hijab, shapes your whole journey of it. High school was the first time wearing it for me, as well as many other hijabis. It can be quite frightening as a young girl just trying to make her way to class but feel like everyones staring & waiting to ask questions. It often feels like being the elephant in the room. But that doesn’t always have to be a bad thing!

season one reflections
ahhhh! i can't believe we have reached the end of our first season ): looking back at the beginning of season 1, i could honestly cry about the amazing journey and lessons i’ve learned from all the guests i spoke with. These included a range of topics about: being the only hijabi in the room, dismantling a racist mindset, finding your style, hijab discrimination, amplifying voices, guys advocating for hijabis, and last but not least hijab tough love. Season 1 & done!

hijab is "tough love" with ayah kawsara
This episode is centered around the topic of feeling confident in your hijab through your evolution. Ayah describes the relationship with her hijab as “tough love” and I thought that is such an honest way to put it. Hijabis that choose to wear the hijab love it, but of course it can be difficult at times. Ayah (@ayahkawsara) is studying graphic design and has an interest in getting her private pilot license for aviation. She started a makeup business at 14 years old and after 5 years is now a makeup artist local to DFW with over 20,000 followers.

the hijab in history
Welcome to a new series called the hijab in history. The history of the hijab has been a topic on my mind for a while and I really wanted to take some time to research and truly explore the history of the hijab. In my research I found over 40,000 peer reviewed journals discussing topics about the hijab and its history. So I decided to start a series of mini chapters where I will read from an article that I summarized and discuss with you guys the hijab in history. And today we will be beginning with ch.1. Millions of muslim women wear the hijab daily in public. So it is important and crucial to understand the history of women who wore the hijab and how it originated and evolved throughout the years. Not only that, but knowing the history behind the hijab that you wear daily will strengthen your bond with it and make you even more confident once you wear it the next day because you'll understand it more. It really is an interesting topic once you go into depth about it.

how guys can advocate for hijabis
In episode 8 I spoke with Saiem (@saiiii300) and Musaab (@northsudan) about ways guys can become advocates for Hijabis. We talked about showing empathy, looking inward, combating keyboard warriors, fraudulent energy (fake supporters), and much more about how our young muslim men and women community can come together in support & compassion for hijabi empowerment.

hijabi human rights and confronting discrimination
This week I got to speak with the inspiring Sanaa Ghanim (@_sanaaghanim_). Sanaa is a Human Rights major, currently attending SMU Law School, she is the Founder of giveapencil (@giveapencildfw), which is a non-profit in DFW that is dedicated to securing the human right to education. Sanaa has also written an article about the misperceived image of Palestinians in Texas schools, which has been published in the Houston Chronicle. Sanaa and I had such powerful conversations about hijabis becoming aware of their human rights during a hijab ban, confronting discrimination in the workforce, maintaining bold in your hijab, and to simply remember that women wearing the hijab are NOT the problem, but rather those who are discriminating against us.

hijab empowerment and finding your own style
This weeks episode features Razan Mualla (@razanxmualla). Razan is a 21 year old blogger and YouTuber. With over 30k followers, she serves as an inspiration to young girls who are looking into wearing the hijab and finding their own style. I loved chatting with Razan about her first memory of the hijab and sharing advice to young muslim girls. In times like the ban of the hijab, we need to remind ourselves of the power and grace of OUR hijab. Let this only make you want to wear it even more and remember the very first time you put it on.

Zahra is a spiritual mindset coach, a writer who supports Muslims to achieve true success in this life and the next, a mother of 4, and founder of modesty and @practicalmuslim, a blog that shares devotionals about our spiritual growth as conscious human beings.
I'm so glad I got to sit down and speak with Zahra, she truly changed my mindset and I learned so many important points from her. We discussed maintaining a positive mindset during these chaotic times, strengthening your bond with Allah (SWT), understanding the dangers of the ego, and most importantly dismantling a racist mindset. ⠀ ⠀
