PFP 183 | soaking in God's word during challenging times

Until just a few days before the end of the year, I was unsettled in my reading plan for 2024. I loved my reading rhythm I had developed over the past couple of years, but it didn’t feel right. God then called my to read the entire Bible in 30 days. Not to try to learn everything, understand everything, but to simply be flooded with his Word for hours each day. In this episode, hear more about soaking in God’s Word, as well as what Psalm stuck out to me as a mama.

Finding Freedom in Motherhood: Letting Go of the Pressure to Have a Perfect Quiet Time | ep 163

Finding Freedom in Motherhood: Letting Go of the Pressure to Have a Perfect Quiet Time | ep 163

Today, Joy dives into the topic of why she gave up her quiet time and how it has transformed her approach to motherhood. In this episode, Joy addresses the pressure that Christian moms often feel to be perfect and do everything perfectly. She emphasizes that even if we could parent perfectly, it doesn't guarantee that our kids will turn out perfectly. Joy encourages moms to not constantly feel the weight of the world on their shoulders, but instead to find joy and fulfillment in their role as mothers. She shares her perspective on quiet time and challenges the notion that it has to look a certain way for every mom. Joy discusses her own personal experiences and the freedom she found in giving God all 24 hours of her day, rather than just a specific hour. She shares practical ways she spends time with God and emphasizes the importance of finding a rhythm that works for each individual mom. If you're a mom seeking a fresh perspective on quiet time and how to connect with God in the midst of motherhood, this episode is for you. Tune in to gain insights and be inspired to experience the joy of motherhood to the fullest.

Block Play and Faith | Nurturing Children's Spiritual Development through Honoring God's Design for Kids and How they grow | ep. 157

On this episode of Playfully Faithful Parenting, host Joy Wendling dives into the world of block play and how it intertwines with faith. Joy explores how block play evolves as children grow older and how it can be integrated with faith-based teachings and how understanding child development is also crucial in nurturing children's faith and creating appropriate expectations. Drawing inspiration from Luke 2:52, where Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, favor with God and man, Joy discusses the different stages of block play and offers guidance on incorporating faith into everyday activities. By honoring God's design for block play, parents can show their children what unconditional love looks like and deepen their faith.

On this episode of Playfully Faithful Parenting, I dive into the story of the priest, prophet, and judge Samuel from 1 Samuel 1-3. First I start with prayer, then I emphasize the opportunity parents have to show their children what it looks like to walk with God in all situations and model it for them. Playing in the Connected Families Framework | Modeling God in Discipline | ep 147

Playing in the Connected Families Framework | Modeling God in Discipline | ep 147

I fully believe that God wants you to enjoy being a mom. It is a gift and a blessing. When we do it with Him, instead of for Him, we are able to model God’s love for our children while experiencing joy in our motherhood. Then, our children will be able to know that Jesus didn’t just die for them to have eternal life in heaven, but abundant life here and now with Him.

In this episode, we look at the 4 messages of the Connected Families Framework and how we can use play to help our children experience and know:

  • Child, you are safe.

  • Child, you are loved.

  • Child, you are called and capable.

  • Child, you are responsible.
