Ep: 354 The Boring Revolution: Shifting From Dominion to Entanglement

Ep: 354 The Boring Revolution: Shifting From Dominion to Entanglement

The Boring Revolution.

The matter of this Better Worlds episode is far from mundane. As advocated by Indy Johar, co-founder of Dark Matter Labs, who visited with Green Planet Blue Planet Host Julian Guderley for this podcast episode, a boring revolution is a fundamental shift in how we as humans perceive ourselves, our relationships, and the institutional frameworks that reinforce those perceptions. The old world view created over time, positions humans as dominion over everything instead of recognizing the agency and aliveness of everything, including objects.

This episode explores multiple facets of this paradigm shift challenges us to fundamentally rethink what it means to be human and how we relate to each other and the planet. Indy suggests our current worldview and societal structures are extractive, guided by externalities, and they put humanity at risk of self-termination.

In other words, we have constructed a language of humans being in dominion over the world, in control of the world through theories constructed in various ways, including by religions. Next, Indy says, we constructed perspective, which put distance between us and put control into bureaucracy, governance, kings etc. Humans then separated themselves from the world, turned things into objects rather than perceiving them as entanglements in relationship with humans. That led to classifications and language shifts from verb - action oriented terms - to nouns, and finally moved into a thesis of property as a universal means of organizing. The worldview became one of control over, and property - ownership - became an enslavement of things.

To hear more about these fascinating and complex theories, tune in now, let us know what you think, like it and share, and then visit us at betterworlds.com for more shows and podcast subjects.

Ep. 351 Catalyzing Systems Change with David Peter Stroh

Ep. 351 Catalyzing Systems Change with David Peter Stroh

This week’s episode of Green Planet Blue Planet perfectly reflects Dana Meadows’s messages from 1972 in her book Limits to Growth. More than a half-century later, humanity is still grappling with the same question. David Peter Stroh, author of “Systems Thinking for Social Change: A Practice Guide to Solving Complex Problems” dives into the subject of  empowering individuals to create change when the world needs it most.

"People don't need enormous cars; they need respect. They don't need closets full of clothes; they need to feel attractive and they need excitement, challenge, acknowledgment, love, joy. To try to fill these needs with material things is to set up an unquenchable appetite for false solutions to real and never satisfied problems." … Dana Meadows from the book Limits to Growth, 1972

Stroh outlines systems thinking in this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet with host Julian Guderley, beginning with the enormous question: What does the world need most from people?

Simply - it is a deeper appreciation of where joy truly originates.

Taught by the advertisers in the free market, people expect joy to come from the acquisition of stuff. With the gifting holidays approaching, it’s definitely on peoples’ minds and weighing heavy on hearts as they are bombarded with continuous messages to acquire more and more things.

Stroh said research shows human joy comes from connecting: Connecting with nature, and being nourished by nature, connecting with other people, and certainly connecting with different experiences and different places. Starting out as a transportation designer in government, he ultimately gravitated toward the spiritual aspects of connections and his passion for acting, both useful to him in his next movement into the field of organizational development.  This led him to question the conventional approaches to organizational development to shift to a focus on the underlying visions and aspirations and the way in which individuals relate to each other and the larger environment.

Stroh co-founded Innovation Associates in the 1970s with Peter Senge, who in 1990 authored a book on the art and practices of learning organizations, entitled The Fifth Discipline, based on their pioneering work on systems thinking, which is core to understanding the often non obvious connections between different parts of an evolving system.

Listen to the entire podcast and engage in the discussion to explore new perspectives on transforming our mindset for effective solutions to chronic complex issues, as well as navigating the paradoxes involved in gaining control of large and unwieldy systems.

About Peter David Stroh

David Peter Stroh is internationally recognized for his work in enabling leaders to apply systems thinking to achieve breakthroughs around chronic, complex problems and to develop strategies that improve system-wide performance over time. He has been described as “a magician” and “the master at providing interesting and useful ways to look at the complexity of systems thinking”, who “helped us tremendously in getting to the core issues” with “the mind of a scientist and the heart of a healer.”

David is the author of the best-selling book Systems Thinking for Social Change: A Practical Guide for Solving Complex Problems, Avoiding Unintended Consequences, and Achieving Lasting Results (Chelsea Green, 2015), which readers praise as “an essential – and long overdue – guide to applied systems thinking” that “shows you how to enlist others in the effort” by “masterfully weaving metaphor, story, and practical tools” using “down-to-earth language.”

Ep. 350 Lisa Bronner: Soap and Soul, Minding Your Mind, Your Body, and Your Spirit with Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap

Ep. 350 Lisa Bronner: Soap and Soul, Minding Your Mind, Your Body, and Your Spirit with Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap

On this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Host Julian Guderley speaks with Lisa about her book, “Soap and Soul, Minding Your Mind, Your Body, and Your Spirit with Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap.”  Fortunately for us, Lisa found her voice and has picked up on the family business of not only making natural products but also to provide others with  a guide on holistic living.

About Lisa Bronner

Having been an avid lifelong reader, Lisa wrote her first book in 2023 as a part companion guide to using her family’s soaps and part green living how-to with stories and memories of the entire Bronner soap-making family. An educator, she taught high school English and journalism after switching from  Civil Engineering to an English degree in college, but she still weaves numbers and words. Lisa is a married mom of three nearly grown children who says her best time of day is gathering with family around the dinner table.

What’s in Dr. Bronner Soap?

Do you know what you’re bringing into your home? From household goods to body products, what’s in your soap?

In the post-war 1940s, while Hollywood and corporate spinners hyped cigarettes, alcohol, canned food, and cleaning agents, Master Soapmaker Dr. E.H. Bronner stepped away from the crowd. He began asking questions about household chemicals and telling another story promoting natural products and a return to nature.

Now, 78 years later, Lisa Bronner, granddaughter and 5th generation soapmaker, has written a holistic guide on natural products, Dr. Bronner’s magic soap, that also provides recipes for cleaning solutions.

Recognizing that many are aware of the problems, as seen in the rising awareness in cultural conversations, Lisa doesn’t have to convince anyone. “Our bodies are going haywire,” she says. It’s to begin  the next conversation of what to do about it.

Many of us, especially in the United States, have been raised on a culture of product. Busy mothers were convinced that they were doing the right thing for their families by buying the brand names propagandized by corporate daytime TV sponsors and Good Housekeeping ads.

As a result, many people grew up instinctively using the same products and following the same habits. Lisa says the challenge today is pointing out the “invisible.”

“The other day, I was taking a walk with my neighbor. And I live out in the country with acres between our houses, and we were walking down the street and I could smell somebody's laundry. I was acres away from a house and I could smell their laundry…Can you imagine how intense those fumes must be in the house or right outside the house? And my neighbor didn't even notice the scent, because it's such a normal thing.”

As Dr. Bronner’s company marks its 75th anniversary, join Julian and Lisa for a clean and intriguing discussion on the evolution of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap and the new guide to help people move to natural solutions.

Ep. 349 Monitoring Biodiversity with Dr. Kat Bruce

Ep. 349 Monitoring Biodiversity with Dr. Kat Bruce

Realizing that by definition the Classics, Greek and Latin, really wouldn’t set her up for the future, Dr. Kat Bruce dropped out of Oxford and went as far away as she could, ending up in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

All that learning of Greek verse by sound, strangely and surprisingly, translated into an “amazing” transferable skill of identifying birds by their calls - 150 different birds over three months.
But moreover, Kat’s life in an Amazon indigenous community 100 miles from the nearest road, with no running water and no electricity, changed her life for good. For a few years she returned to the Amazon to run around counting birds and being part of a few expeditions - including building balsa wood rafts and floating town a tributary of the Amazon for a few weeks.
And then somebody pointed out she should probably go back to the university to get a degree of some kind, before it was too late. She earned a wildlife biology degree with the intention of going back to hang out in the Amazon. But Kat Bruce doesn’t just hang out. Once she starts things she goes further than their conclusion. She continued studying and left only after receiving her PHD where she modeled a particular system of ant plants - plants in the Amazon that live symbiotically with ants. And she joined the rowing club and combined it with research in eDNA, and this became the evolution of her first start up company,
NatureMetrics.
In the discussion on this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Host Julian Guderley follows Kat’s path to collecting eDNA, while combining it with a passion for rowing.
She joined a rowing team that was part of an initiative to gather data on the threats to biodiversity - pollution, plastics, sound pollution, but she recognized the need to tell the stories about what is possible to do to bring back biodiversity, clean up our seas and to restore the ecosystems.
So she put together her own ocean rowing team of women who work in the fields of nature and climate to row around Great Britain in 2024, while collecting all the data and telling stories.
To hear more about this journey, the outcomes and upcoming plans, listen to the entire podcast on the Better Worlds YouTube channel. If you like what you hear, let us know, subscribe and opt into notifications on new shows as they are posted.
About Kat Bruce
After completing her PhD in 2014, Kat set up NatureMetrics to bridge the gap between the powerful molecular tools being developed in the research world and the environmental managers who could benefit from their use. Her particular interest lies in how to bring together the worlds of research, industry and policy to drive forward advances in our capacity to monitor the natural world. Through her work in the EU COST Action project DNAqua-net, she actively works to help establish best practice for the use of DNA monitoring tools for aquatic bio-monitoring in Europe and beyond.

Ep. 348 Kosha Joubert: Healing Collective Trauma and Restoring Our Connectedness

Ep. 348 Kosha Joubert: Healing Collective Trauma and Restoring Our Connectedness

Kosha Jourbet, designer of eco-villages, learned how little she needed and how generous people are as she regularly walked the African coast in an impoverished community with no money. It was a firsthand experience with nature. She slept on the beach on a thin blanket and had very few clothes. Her priorities were finding water and food. She swam across big rivers. Ultimately, she broke down the barriers between nature and herself. “I was afraid of nature. How many of us are afraid of nature? We're afraid of spiders. We're afraid of scorpions. But we're also just afraid of space, or the ocean or the sky, or sleeping alone in the dark or walking in the dark or crossing a river. Breaking down those fears inside myself was amazing. I got to know the night sky, I got to know the beauty of flowers of the ripples of the ocean, waking up in the early dawn, watching the sunrise, walking down the beach and finding the most beautiful shell as if it was a gift of the ocean.” Kosha’s journey took her into her African homeland reinstated a trust in herself. Later in life she met an indigenous leader of the Maori in New Zealand, who spoke these words: In my tradition, we do not need to earn a living, because simply by being born on the planet into a body, we have our earth right to be alive. How many of us still have yet to learn this? Join Kosha in a conversation with Green Planet Blue Planet Host Julian Guderley exploring the simple necessities of life and the ease of building eco-villages to meet the needs of humans and nature. About Kosha Jourbet Kosha Joubert now works as CEO of the Pocket Project, dedicated to exploring and healing collective trauma, after serving as CEO of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) for many years. She is an international facilitator, trainer, and consultant and has worked extensively in the fields of sustainable development, intercultural collaboration and the emergence of collective wisdom. Kosha is a co-founder of Gaia Education, which develops trainings at the cutting-edge of sustainability, and co-author of the internationally applied curriculum of the Ecovillage Design Education. She is also the author on a book on collective wisdom, and editor of books on social tools for building community and ecovillage solutions. Kosha grew up in South Africa under Apartheid and has been dedicated to the healing of divides and collective trauma ever since. In 2016, she received the Dadi Janki Award - 100 Women of Spirit - For engaging spirituality in life and work and for making a difference in the world. In 2019, she hosted the Power of Community Online Summit (10.000 participants) and co-hosted the Collective Trauma Online Summit (53.000 participants). Whether it's climate change, politics or economics, our business world has a universal, widespread crisis in leadership.

In this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Satyen Raja, author of Transcendental CEO and founder of WarriorSage, explores this leadership crisis with Host Julian Guderley observing the patterns among those who are called to business leadership that cause them to lose their way and disconnect  from spirit, heart and soul as though they are detriments to business success. The opposite is true, Satyen says. Enlightenment leads to the Greater Good.

Satyen and his wife Suzanne are the founders of Sage Warriors, whose mission is to enlighten, unify and mobilize leaders for higher purpose. The discussion winds through benevolent AI and what's needed to ensure AI is evolved for a higher cause, and the trimtabs to a better business environment.

“We have all the knowledge, we have all the intellect. We have the incredible scholarly capacity of brilliant minds around the world, to be able to have brilliant creations and technologies, we have all the technology on the planet we need. We actually have all the resources, all the money, all the human power that we need. What we're lacking is the enlightenment of our leadership.”

As a transcendental leadership coach, Satyen and his wife Suzzanne guide CEOs and business leaders to their purpose so they can do it, and down the path to transformation and spiritual evolution so they may lead a fuller life with improved relationships.

Ep. 344 Daniel Christian Wahl on Shifting to Regenerative cultures

Ep. 344 Daniel Christian Wahl on Shifting to Regenerative cultures

In this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Host Julian Guderley asks this question of Biologist and Regeneration thought-leader Author Daniel Wahl Christian, and explores the critical mission to stretch beyond sustainable communities to become builders and custodians of regenerative bioregions for the future. As ethical concerns surrounding AI loom large, they explore the urgent need to dismantle the mental barriers that separate humans from co-creating with nature. Regenerative ecosystems call for a departure from abstract problem-solving towards a deep connection with nature. Daniel emphasizes that true regeneration can only be achieved within a specific place, context, and culture, rather than through generic master plans. Ep. 343 Dimitry Gershenson on Sustainable Investments in the Clean Energy Space

Ep. 343 Dimitry Gershenson on Sustainable Investments in the Clean Energy Space

Dimitry, Enduring Planet Co-Founder, speaks to Green Planet Blue Planet about the fund’s support for various projects from software with indirect impacts to planting trees with very explicit impacts.

He speaks to the profound impact of tax incentives included in the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act to catalyze transformative decarbonization. Rather than necessitating a complete overhaul of existing economic and energy systems, Dimitry said by altering the economic dynamics, the tax incentive has become one of the most influential pieces of climate legislation in the US, fostering the largest expansion of clean energy investment in the nation's history. While some might have hoped for radical disruption, the government's approach to supporting decarbonization focuses on incentivizing clean energy deployment within the current framework.

While it is laudable to have large decarbonization goals,  Dimitry explains that for Enduring Planet, all initiatives are considered, as can be seen in their portfolio case studies. The impact metrics across businesses may be dramatically different, but it’s all within their climate finance scope - from water to energy to waste. By design, every dollar they put to work is having an impact.

Enduring Planet offers rapid financing without dilution, personal guarantees, or collateral. It is climate focused for impactful teams, big or small, working across mitigation, removal, adaptation, and resilience to address the climate crisis. They provide two products now, Revenue Based Financing and Climate Grant Advances for government backing to be repaid once the funding is received.

Join Dimitry and Julian in this discussion of the nature of the work in a new climate economy, “where every business is a climate business.”

The two explore the idea of dismantling capitalism and incentives for extractive structures that are misaligned with climate change. Learn more about Dimitry and how he came to his ecological conclusions while working in Honduras with the Peace Corps, addressing questions such as how to restore damaged ecosystems and bring the planet back to a healthy, happy place, only to determine what motivates him is love of people and a desire for equity and accessibility to services and principles of conservation.

#About Dimitry Gershenson

Dimitry co-founded Enduring Planet, building on his 10+ years of experience across climate tech, operations, and impact investing. Prior to Enduring Planet, Dimitry led M&A and served as COO for Rango Wireless, an Enduring Ventures portfolio company. Before that, Dimitry built Meta’s Energy Access program, a $15M+ investing initiative that enabled energy access for 3M people and unlocked nearly $500M in additional capital in underserved markets like Kenya and India. While at Meta, Dimitry also led the development of multiple predictive ML products in the cleantech space and built corporate accelerator programs for impact startups in India and Puerto Rico.

Outside of Enduring Planet, Dimitry sits on the board of Ecosafi, a Lower carbon-backed climate startup enabling clean cooking in emerging markets. Dimitry holds an MS in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley, a BS in Natural Resource Management from Rutgers University.

Ep. 342 Giles Hutchins: Embracing Regeneration and Unlocking Nature's Wisdom for Transformative Leadership

Ep. 342 Giles Hutchins: Embracing Regeneration and Unlocking Nature's Wisdom for Transformative Leadership

The word sustainability made it into the mainstream vocabulary in the 1970s around the time of the first Earth Day. It has been thrown around as to make the actions of businesses more appealing and has become an instrument for show without much data behind it to demonstrate its effectiveness. Sustainability is a term and practice that is designed to meet the needs of the current generation and has been adopted at the top levels of government - e.g. United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Regeneration is the new paradigm, that when defined well and understood, it can be measured and transcend the test of time by living and learning to work in harmony with the very essence of life itself - nature.

Giles states it simply. Regeneration is about working the way life works. By recognizing that we as busy consumers have fallen out of sync with life, and now it’s important to allow ourselves to remember the inherent grammar that is innate within nature.

The deeper response goes into three levels of insight that will help unlock our potential as leaders and to reimagine organizational consciousness.

The power of regeneration and learning from living systems, broken into three interconnected  levels.

  1. Understanding nature, nature's patterns, principles and processes, including disciplines such as  biomimicry, circular economics and systems thinking that help us work with the principles and processes we find within life with an open mind.

  2. With an open heart, systemic participation within living systems; embody experience working with systemic dynamics within the organization as a living system and immersed within life.

  3. The third level is open will: Leading to an existential shift tuning into nature's wisdom, and knowing that there is actually much more to life than meets the eye. It is not only the biological understanding of life, but a bio-psycho-spiritual receptivity and opening into life, which allows us to work with the inherent wisdom, innate within life.

About Giles Hutchins:

Giles Hutchins is a pioneering practitioner, keynote speaker, and executive coach who stands at the forefront of a consciousness-raising revolution in organizational leadership. With over 20 years of experience in helping organizations of all sizes transform, Giles applies advanced techniques, deep-dive nature immersions, embodiment work, ancient wisdom tradition insights, and cutting-edge research on leadership consciousness.

More recently, Giles served as the Global Head of Sustainability for Atos, a global technology provider with a presence in over 40 countries and employing more than 150,000 people. In this role, he played a pivotal role in integrating sustainable practices into the company's operations, aligning business goals with environmental and social responsibilities.

Currently, Giles holds the position of Chairman at the Future Fit Leadership Academy, where he continues to push the boundaries of leadership development. He is also the Lead Partner of The Natural Business Partnership, which focuses on bringing nature-inspired approaches into the business world. As a co-founder of Biomimicry for Creative Innovation and Regenerators.co, Giles actively promotes innovative and regenerative practices that draw inspiration from the natural world.

Giles' impact reaches beyond his roles as a practitioner and coach as he is an accomplished author and co-author of several influential papers and books, including "The Nature of Business" (2012), "The Illusion of Separation" (2014), "Future Fit" (2016), "Regenerative Leadership" (2019), and "Leading by Nature" (2022). Through his writings, Giles shares his insights into the interconnectedness of nature and business, urging leaders to adopt a more holistic and regenerative approach to their work.

With his international leadership center located at Springwood Farm, a place of exceptional natural beauty near London, UK, Giles provides a unique environment for immersive learning experiences.

Ep. 341 The Arctic Circle with Elena Doms

Ep. 341 The Arctic Circle with Elena Doms

The Arctic Circle may be a place that holds mystery. Elena Doms was born and raised there. She discusses her close up view and deep understanding of climate change with Julian Guderley in this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet. The Arctic is warming up faster than anywhere else on Earth but there are few people who can comprehend climate change in the way a native who has witnessed years of impact can, where new harmful effects can be seen every year. Elena discusses what it was like for her hometown, a community divided by a river that is usually frozen in the winter, safe passage over the ice in recent years has been trickier. In previous years the temperatures are normally 30 degrees below 0 Celsius but in recent years the temperatures have risen to just minus 7 to minus 10 degrees. During the pandemic, people had a difficult time getting to the hospital on the opposite bank. Engineers had to be more creative in their transportation solutions. Elena discusses the visible effects of pollution in the rise in air temperatures and the lack of rain. Thirty degrees in summer time is no longer abnormal. While Europe was flooding, her parents were having to water the plants daily for the first time. Now living in Belgium, Elena reflects on 18 years of living near the Polar Circle and her mission to create the largest soil and CO2 clean up in history with Nature through Earth Plus. Tune in to hear more about her fascinating journey and stories that will help everyone understand how drastically and quickly climate change is impacting everyone and everything around us. About: Elena learned how to grow plants and food 30 years ago as a child and dreams of rewilding cities and restoring nature all over the world, and for her own children. She uses plants to clean the soils of forever chemicals, capturing CO2 while creating a circular economy through nature-based solutions. She is an international speaker on sustainability and has managed cross-cultural teams of up to 500 people across Europe and Asia through bio-based circular materials. Elena is also an artist who uses her art as a beautiful way to inspire and educate.

Ep. 340 Sovereign Nature Initiative with Alessandro Mazzi

Ep. 340 Sovereign Nature Initiative with Alessandro Mazzi

The Sovereign Nature Initiative strives to reconfigure the intersection between ecology, economy, and emerging technologies in order to open the possibility for radical approaches toward sustainability.
Alessandro's current mandate at SNI is to facilitate relationship-building between nature stewards, technologists, and the wider collective who are committed to building sustainable futures in partnership with the larger community of Life.

The Manifesto of the Sovereign Nature Initiative: Our relationship with nature is threatening the ecosystem of our entire planet in an existential way. We believe that we need to change our perception of nature on a fundamental level. We need to develop new ways of understanding cohabitation that undermine the historic hierarchy of human domination and control. To get there, we want nature to become self-governing - able to act in its own interest, free from human exploitation.

Ep. 339 Nature-Based Economy through the power of AI and Ocean Data with Jeremy McKane

Ep. 339 Nature-Based Economy through the power of AI and Ocean Data with Jeremy McKane

“There is real intrinsic value in a healthy ecosystem without the extraction of life.” ~ Jeremy McKane.

In this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Host Julian Guderley holds a dialogue with Ocean Currency Network Founder CEO Jeremy McKane who is driving impact in measuring ocean data with systems that are on track to hit one Billion measurements per day by the end of this year. OCN is a blockchain enabled network to share oceanic data and quantify the true value of protected areas.

Jeremy is focused on educating people about AI, comparing it with the introduction of the microcomputer and other technology that humans had to learn to understand and drop their fears and learn how to use the tools most effectively in a nature-based economy. What if people could use artificial intelligence as their own personal cabinet, like a President who is given daily intelligence briefings on a high level to digest only  what he needs to know at that particular moment in time. The analysts and advisors are still important, for example, but the AI can quickly pick out the top info to share.

This episode explores how AI gives everyone an opportunity to use information as power; to push the needle for the first time toward impact with these tools. Julian sets the stage for more description of the Ocean Currency Network efforts to create a nature-based economy and increase trust in investments for climate solutions.

Ocean Currency Network is set to protect 30 percent of the Ocean by 2030 by marrying a nature based economy with the incoming reality of artificial intelligence. They have built a platform that produces  frequent overarching reports to show exactly what’s happening in the ocean. Imagine the power to make decisions early enough to actually avert the next major catastrophe.

These systems will revolutionize the measurement and tracking of ocean data that is being gathered by scientists around the world. Ocean Currency Network pays scientists and citizens to collect ocean data reports into the hands of the masses using artificial intelligence.

Tune in to learn more about the OCN mission and its position to encourage practical citizen data collection with products and systems that communities may use to interpret overall ocean health and create trackable solutions, and the inexpensive Seamore sensors that are disrupting the way data is collected.

Ep. 336 Ocean Activism with Hanalei Swan

Ep. 336 Ocean Activism with Hanalei Swan

Fifteen year old Hanalei Swan is a real powerhouse, an unstoppable teenage activist with a mission. She is a role model and example of the new kind of activist, stepping away from polarization and leading with empathy and focusing on solutions from a place of deep connection and inspiration with Planet Earth.

Hanalei is also a Fashion Designer, Artist, International Speaker, Author and Model. A must listen episode to learn with Hanalei to live and create from a multi-generational perspective.

“Ask Yourself What Do You Want To Be Now”

HANALEI SWAN, born April 17, 2007, is a fashion designer, artist, author, international speaker & founder of “Unstoppable Kids” while traveling the World since I was 1 y/o.

Hanalei Swan (born April 17, 2007) is a fashion designer, artist, author, international speaker, and founder of the “Unstoppable Kids”, while traveling the World since she was 1 year old.

She was named after the stunning destination at which her parents were married and was born during a financially difficult time for her parents. At the age of one, Hanalei was brought along with her parents to travel the world. Hanalei is a bright young fashion designer whose passion has been apparent since she was eight years old. She was brought up to seize opportunities in her youth - her parents didn’t ask her what she wanted to be in the future. Instead, they asked her, “What do you want to be now?”

She is an avid lover of animals and lives near the beach with her parents and her rescued cat and dogs. Since the age of three, she has always buried her nose in a sketchbook full of her doodles and sketches.

Hanalei’s drive remains constantly geared towards ethical and eco-friendly fashion. Her altruistic nature has been refined over the years; upon being offered a US$30 million investment from a Shark Tank venture capitalist, she turned the opportunity down because she refused to outsource her business to China and India, countries where the quality of working conditions was low.

Ep. 335 Systems Change Podcast with Gregory Wendt

Ep. 335 Systems Change Podcast with Gregory Wendt

Today's guest is Gregory Wendt who works in Sustainable Wealth Management and Strategy, Impact Investing and Regenerative Economic Development Innovation.

This episode is a deep dive into Systems Change, and was inspired by a recent meeting within Top Tier Impact, the global ecosystem of impact and sustainability leaders. The recording was set up as a roundtable with several people in the room, asking questions to Gregory Wendt and Host Julian Guderley.

We are living in a world in which there is more change than any one person can track, whilst we have inherited old systems that govern us that were created in vastly different times. We are increasingly stepping into a participatory world, what can we co-create when we emancipate current systems to serve a synergistic world. What are leverage points to change systems ?

Further questions we explore during this dialogue:

What was the mindset with which our current systems were designed?

What are the necessary preconditions, and the processes well underway for systems change for a planetary civilization?

What Systems have we inherited and what Systems are actually changing at this point in our time on the Planet?

Are the SDG's a good approach to evolving our systems, or is there a deeper conversation to be had?

What is our relationship to the Planet, to each other and the way we go forward together?

Ep. 333 Everwave - Cleaning up Rivers with CEO and co-founder Clemens Feigl

Ep. 333 Everwave - Cleaning up Rivers with CEO and co-founder Clemens Feigl

In this episode, Julian speaks with Clemens Feigl, CEO of Everwave, a German-based organization dedicated to fighting against ocean pollution. Everwave's effort has resulted in over 800 tons of plastic waste removed from rivers before the garbage pollutes the ocean, since their beginning in 2017. Everwave works in Slovakia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania as well as Thailand and Cambodia.

Today Clemens discusses their mission, accomplishments, and future goals in this informative conversation. At large Everwave's strategy is focused on three key areas: Research, Education, and Clean-up. Through these pillars, the organization aims to identify the root causes of ocean pollution and find effective solutions to combat it.

Research is a critical component of Everwave's strategy. They conduct scientific studies and gather data to assess the scope of the problem and develop innovative solutions for reducing pollution. Everwave collaborates with leading research institutions and universities to advance the understanding of plastic pollution's impact on marine ecosystems.

Education is another key pillar of Everwave's strategy. They believe that raising awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans is critical to achieving their mission. Everwave offers educational programs for schools and community organizations to promote sustainable behavior and increase knowledge about the impact of plastic pollution.

The third pillar of Everwave's strategy is clean-up. Everwave's clean-up efforts are aimed at removing existing pollution and preventing further pollution from entering our oceans. They organize beach clean-ups, remove plastic waste from the ocean, and work with local communities to develop sustainable waste management solutions.

In addition to these three pillars, Everwave has a strong commitment to collaboration. They work with a variety of partners, including government agencies, NGOs, and industry leaders, to develop effective solutions and achieve their goals.

Ep. 331 Phillip Moore on The Future of Children & Education

Ep. 331 Phillip Moore on The Future of Children & Education

Todays guest is wisdom-keeper Phillip Moore, he returns for another sit down conversation with Julian.

Check out Phil's newest training for Educating the Future of Children

In a nutshell, Phil Moore leads with his heart. He puts this extraordinary heart capacity to work by playing the infinite game. A game where there are no losers and winning means oneing.(from me to we). Where you play with the rules rather than by them. An infinite game player plays to leave an invisible legacy in the hearts and minds of others. This kind of open heart—willing to give and receive, attracts allies and seeds possibilities.

For his entire life as a teacher, husband, father, Granda, mentor, writer and leader, Phil has been an artist of possibilities. This artistry opens doors, forges bonds, spreads inspiration and astonishing learning happens for everyone in his orbit.

Thanks to Phil, the lives of many have been changed from his loving humanity.Phil has always been driven by his love for children, for his love of the wild and for building and sustaining a learning community. From the age of 23 he was asked to embody and serve a community for more than four decades that grew from over fifty children, to nearly 100. Over half a century later, this learning community is alive, evolving, and serving one foundational goal: To Love Children into Being. This living legacy is shifting entire communities from the dominant paradigm to a new paradigm that is based on love and deep inter-relatedness.It’s tricky to measure this legacy and impact, yet easy to share some of the tangible ways Phil has shared his heart across the world.

A few to mention:-

His book The Future Of Children grew out of over four decades of direct experience with children who have been educated in a school that was based on love. These children have grown up to be very different kinds of people. Their direct connection to the natural world has influenced them to feel a deep connection with life.

- Loved thousands of children and their extended families in ways that helped us navigate challenging and difficult times.

- Created loving bonds between teachers, parents, neighbors, and friends.

- Built a campus, over 4 decades, that is currently serving close to 100 students and teachers based on doing more with less, using regenerative non-extracting technologies.

- Influenced an unknown number of people who attended: workshops, retreats, concerts, tours, films, ceremonies, conferences, and events designed to uplift our spirits and inspire others to become infinite game players.Inspired love-based initiatives, and innovations in education communities across the globe.

Ep. 327 The Gene Keys with Peter Tongue

Ep. 327 The Gene Keys with Peter Tongue

Todays episode is dedicated to the work of the Gene Keys, our guest is Peter Tongue. Peter is sharing with us about his relationship with Gene Key originator Richard Rudd and diving deep into the work of the Gene Keys, walking us through the Golden Path of the Gene Key chart. Together we are looking at the Gene Key Chart for the New Moon in Pisces from February 2023, you can view the chart here.

He has been on a Spiritual Path for much of his life.  Early explorations of chemistry and astrology quickly evolved into studies of alchemy and the afterlife.  Over the years, he has gained much insight on humanity’s innate ability to transform itself as well as the illusory veil that separates us from other dimensions.Peter was an Educator for thirty years and a High School Principal for thirteen years, during which time the Indigo Children provided him with first-hand accounts of their spiritual experiences as well as the limitations they were facing within the traditional school system.

Inspired by these exceptional young people, Peter left his career in formal education and turned his attention to walking his true spiritual path while helping others to walk theirs. He now counsels individuals and groups in spiritual emergence, overcoming obstacles, and finding one’s true life purpose.

In 2006, Peter had the rare privilege of co-creating at the Alchemical Furnace, which has given him tremendous insight into the process of transmutation for the human soul.  His deeply-grounded, heart-centred approach to science and spirituality offers a much-needed means for navigating one’s life at this potentially chaotic and confusing time.

Ep. 324 Kijani Forestry with co-founder Beau Milliken

Ep. 324 Kijani Forestry with co-founder Beau Milliken

Today back on the Podcast is Beau one of the co-founders of Kijani Forestry in Uganda! Their mission: Plant 150 million trees by 2025 to break the cycle of poverty for millions. Changing rainfall patterns are devastating the lives of African farmers. Even worse, to survive droughts, farmers often turn to deforestation to feed their families. Kijani partners with farmers to plant millions of trees to provide sustainable livelihoods and reverse deforestation. We plant trees to break the cycle of climate-induced poverty in Africa.

The mission: Plant 150 million trees by 2025 to break the cycle of poverty for millions.

Kijani Forestry was started around a simple idea:

Could we reverse the rampant deforestation in Uganda through a scalable, financially sustainable, and holistic business model?

Kijani Forestry was started around a simple idea:

Could we reverse the rampant deforestation in Uganda through a scalable, financially sustainable, and holistic business model?

The three cofounders, Paul, Quinn and Beau, met in Uganda in 2013 and our friendship grew while working together through years blood, sweat, tears, and some serious bushwacking. Throughout that time, the deforestation became alarmingly visible and was paired with sharp increases in charcoal prices in the region. After seeing how intricately linked these problems were with the changing weather patterns, decreasing crop yields, and ongoing cycle of poverty, we knew we had to do something.

Ep. 318 Mark Epstein | Flow Farming and Tokenomics

Ep. 318 Mark Epstein | Flow Farming and Tokenomics

Mark Epstein is todays guest on Green Planet Blue Planet Podcast, just a few weeks ago Julian visited him at his farm in North Carolina. Mark is leading the "Financial Flow" of Hypha, he has a background as a mathematician and computer scientist. He is also the owner of a vegan farm, called Flow Farm, where his mission is to grow health, organic and vegan food.

In this episode we are talking about:

  • Mark's passion for farming and his story around building Flow Farm
  • How a decade of building soil was his personal preparation for the Regenerative Movement
  • Reverence and appreciation for the natural world that allows us to build new systems
  • True cost of our impact on nature

In Mark's words: "I always really loved farms, and I grew up a vegetarian and so it made sense to me to grow some of our own food. Farming is a noble exploration into the wonder and miracle of life. How do those seeds know what to do? And how can we assist in a positive way for the whole environment? We apply a blend of science, art, and intuition into our farming techniques, and a lot of hard work. I delight in walking around the farm, and looking at everything that we’re creating. Jules and me and our boys are vegan, so having our farm be veganic is a simple extension of our own values. And, that feels good. And, I love eating the food!"

Ep. 317 Auravana with Travis Grant

Ep. 317 Auravana with Travis Grant

Project Auravana is currently developing the most advanced standard currently known on how to conceive of and operate community at the planetary societal scale. Learn the fundamentals of a society that operates without money, States, or socio-economic class division; and therefrom, contribute to its emergence on our planet.

The Auravana project is composed of working groups and habitat teams. The open source working groups develop and publish the societal standard for a global community-type society. These working groups create documents that provide requirements, specifications, and reasoning that can be used consistently at the societal level for mutual human fulfillment. The project exists to open source and free-share the standard for global societal co-operation.

We are developing the societal standard for a highly automated, moneyless (tradeless) society oriented toward human fulfillment and ecological sustainability.

The Problem

The socio-economic structuring of modern society generates a large group of people that live over an extensive area, compete against one another for the common resources, experience inequality and wealth disparity between social classes and/or genders, cannot operate through a unified decision process due to dissimilar understandings and goals (instead, decision making is by authority, majority, or minority rule), and actions that are taken often benefit a small segment of the people at the expense of others and the ecology.

The Opportunity

Together, we have the opportunity to apply our intelligence, understandings, and abilities to iteratively co-create a community network of socio-economically integrated city systems designed to incorporate elements from (and otherwise reflect) the natural environment of our species, while offering every individual on the planet a set of highly enriched living opportunities based on that which is possible today, and directed toward a new era of flourishing and sustainability for all.

The Solution

A unified and emergently designed socio-economic specification that structures the formation of community where people with a shared sense of purpose live within the regenerative carrying capacity of their environment, cooperate with one another using common resources, experience an enriched life where there are a multitude of opportunities for self-growth and contribution, operate through a unified decision process due to similar understandings and goals, and actions that are taken often benefit everyone and do not come at the expense of anyone or the ecology.

Ep. 315 Biodynamics & Regeneration with Darek Trowbridge

Ep. 315 Biodynamics & Regeneration with Darek Trowbridge

A true expression of the land... Pastoral Winemaker, Darek Trowbridge celebrates the diversity in the vineyard, creating wines that are well balanced, provocative and true to the grapes.  Nothing is added to the wine except a minimal amount of protective sulfur.

In 2012 Darek started making a Regenerative Composted Mulch for use in his Biodynamic and Regenerative farming and to help revive 120 year old vines that his great Grandfather once tended. From that success he has brought this material to 6 other ranches that are now farmed by Darek regeneratively. In addition, Darek grows food crops and eggs on a small market garden using the Regenerative Composted Mulch. This has provided sustenance for many customers, friends and family and acts like a demonstration project for visitors to see how to grow crops without (soil organic matter destroying) tillage using Darek’s soil amendment.

And whether it’s wine grapes or zucchini Darek is always sequestering carbon into the soil without subsequent loss back into the atmosphere via tillage.

As one of the leaders in the field of “Natural Wines” Darek Trowbridge uses century old techniques to produce chemical free wines that become a singular expression of the winemaker, the grapes and the land.

Darek has been making biodynamic wines at Old World Winery for 20 years.  His passion is inviting nature into his winemaking using 120 year old field blends and rare varietals.  Using only the grapes and the naturally occurring native yeast to create wines, Darek knows his wines become the true expression of the natural beauty that exists in the vineyard.

Ep. 312 ReFi a conversation with Helena Merk | Spirals Protocol

Ep. 312 ReFi a conversation with Helena Merk | Spirals Protocol

Todays guest is Helena Merk current founder of Spirals Protocol. Their mission is to be bringing externalities into the economic model by building regenerative infrastructures for the new economy.

Helena recently had a successful exit with her last company called: Glimpse, literally Building belonging! Started with college campuses that went virtual during the covid 19 pandemic, and shifted to remote teams. Acquired by a direct competitor that shared their mission and vision to build a more authentically connected world.

Her most recent update is a collaboration between Eco Labs and Spirals Protocol. The Eco Labs mission is to unlock the ability to issue ecological assets at small scales, creating a new career path: Regeneration as an occupation. They’re doing this by focusing on practice-based methodologies for environmental stewardship. Leveraging emerging innovations in dMRV (decentralized + digital measuring, reporting, and verification) to record Proof-of-Impact in a low cost and accessible way.

Together, Eco Labs and Spirals build a positive climate impact flywheel 🤸🏽Collaboration roadmap:

  1. Eco Labs stakes with Spirals through $cUSD staking
  2. Eco Labs’ practice-based environmental credits are added for review to the climate council
  3. If approved, Eco Labs will immediately be eligible for funding!
Why Eco Labs?

To scale any climate solution, we need to scale remote monitoring and verification. The Impact App by the Eco Labs team does exactly this by:

  1. on-boarding Regenerators into dMRV ecosystems, and
  2. providing simple dMRV data capture via images & location verification via their mobile app.

The team behind Eco Labs is stellar: watching their progress in just the last few weeks in ReFi DAO founder circles, has been exciting.

Ep. 310 Reverence of the Heart with Alyssa Anaya

Ep. 310 Reverence of the Heart with Alyssa Anaya

Alyssa Anaya is committed to being a force of love on the Planet. Bringing the sacred back into practice on this Planet. As Nature we are nature and embody the wisdom of the Planet. Alyssa sparks and rekindles Peoples Connection. From a Marriage Falling Apart to a Professional Intimacy Coach…

Julian and Alyssa sense make their way through uniting mind, heart and body. As Truly embodied #regenerative impact is living tantra. In right relationship with Planet Earth.

Alyssa is a spaceholder and guide in the space of Tantra and Sacred Sexuality. Life is a flowing river, metaphorically speaking, as a guide Alyssa supports couples and individuals of becoming unstuck.

Alyssa demystifies the terminology of Tantra and explains the origin of the scriptures, associated as the origin point of Tantra teachings. The foundation of a lot of spirituality coming from the east can be tracked back to these two sources and the scriptures. An original philosophy. Everything is diving, and god or divinity is in everything. Opening ourselves to this truth of life is essential to embody, practice and spread #regeneration.

Alyssa's words: "I know how lonely it can be when intimacy isn’t working with your partner. I was in a loving, devoted relationship. We had chemistry and we just worked. But, after having a child, my desire for intimacy shifted. So when it came to being intimate, it was like we were on two different pages. Bottom line, we felt like roommates day-to-day. I just wanted to enjoy intimacy without it becoming a chore. My partner wanted what we once had. As you can imagine, the sexual frustration got real and started affecting our emotional relationship, too. Our interactions felt one-sided and lacking in attention. It felt like we were being pulled apart by our different desires and felt utterly excruciating. I just knew I couldn’t let us go through life with me feeling inadequate or questioning whether I really wanted to be with my partner. We were both lonely and found ourselves missing the spark that our relationship once had."
