We talked about representation and merch and Barenaked Ladies and all kinds of topics. Plus, Jenna told Caroline and Alan which Sailors they were. It was a good time.  Note: This episode was recorded before the final episode of Adventure Time aired. Jenna talks about Princess Bubblegum and Marceline's relationship being kept offscreen. 50: BIG with Annie Atkins LIVE at the Workman's Club, Dublin
Welcome to our big 50th episode party! We took over the Vintage Room in The Workman's Club and filled it with sound people. We did a little quiz and gave away some extremely desirable prizes. Then we talked to Oscar-winning graphic designer Annie Atkins whose work you've seen in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle Of Dogs, Bridge Of Spies, The Tudors, and loads more. Annie talked to us about the classic and only mildly disturbing family comedy BIG. It was a really interesting conversation and also it's one of the very special times where Alan, Ellen, and Sarah are all in the same room so that was fun.  Thank you so much to Alan and Brian at HeadStuff for making this episode happen and to everybody at The Workman's who gave us the space and set us up and made sure we didn't set fire to anything. We donated all of our ticket sales for the night to Together For Yes and we're delighted to say that we raised €300 so thank you to everybody that bought a ticket.  Note: We are shamble people and away from the safe confines of the HeadStuff studio we have a tendency to make microphones malfunction. It happens a couple of times during this but it shouldn't affect your listening experience too much unless you have "platinum ears".  Juvenalia original artwork by Dee McDonnell This episode was produced and edited by Brian + Alan

We have zero solid plans for what’s happening with Juvenalia this year but we’re sure it’ll be very exciting and good.  This episode is sponsored by Just Eat  Ellen writes for Silicon Republic so go there and read her stuff. The Juvenalia Christmas Smalltacular 2017
Hello and welcome to the Juvenalia Christmas Smalltacular 2017! We decided to take it back to basics this year. Just Alan, Ellen, and Sarah talking about some of their favourite Christmas memories and how their 2017 went. This somehow led to a solid ten minutes of chatting about how much we love the McElroys and The Adventure Zone but the rest is pretty Christmassy with talk of Mega Drives, N64s, selection boxes, carols, Carol, and lots of other stuff.  The singer who did the version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas that made Alan cry in college was Niall McCabe. Alan is sorry that he couldn’t remember Niall’s surname.  Follow Alan, Ellen, and Sarah on Twitter, we’re good and sound.  We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who listened, subscribed, or supported Juvenalia in any way this year. We love making this podcast and love that you’re out there listening. HAPPY CHRISTMAS! You probably know her from loads of stuff like various Dreamgun sketches, live shows, and podcasts or maybe from her Comedy Brunch which has appeared at Smock Alley and the Body & Soul Festival. You’ll definitely know her soon from her role in the upcoming film The Drummer and The Keeper, her appearances at the Vodafone Comedy Festival, and her one-woman show The Egg Is A Lonely Hunter which is running at the Dublin Fringe Festival from Sep 13-17. That was a very long intro but Hannah’s very busy and we like her.  Hannah joined Alan and Ellen to talk about Disney’s Fantasia (1940). which has intersected with her life in all kinds of extremely interesting ways. Trust me, you’ll want to listen to this one.  This episode is sponsored by the March For Choice which leaves from the Garden Of Remembrance at 2pm, September 30th.   Follow Juvenalia on Twitter   Juvenalia original artwork by Dee McDonnell   This episode was produced by Brian

Caroline O’Donoghue (@czaroline) is a contributing editor with The Pool and an author whose first book, Promising Young Women, will be released by Virago in early 2018. She joined Alan and Sarah to talk about 90’s sitcoms with a particular focus on Frasier. We talked a lot about David Hyde Pierce, the wonders of Daphne Moon and Lilith, metrosexuality, and the art of farce. We also jumped off into talks about Just Shoot Me, Cybil, and the effect that Friends had on a generation of Irish people. Then we finished up with a little metatalk about Juvenalia itself. It got real. Afterwards we had prosecco and bacon fries. In this episode, Leonardo Di Caprio himself is joined by his pals, Tobey Maguire, Kevin Connolly, and Lukas Haas to look back at the film that kind of ruined his life for a while, Titanic. In the last episode, Alan, Ellen, and Stacy talked all about the film as fans but this time we’ll be hearing from the people who actually lived it. We’ll delve deep into Leo’s memories and we’ve also obtained exclusive audition footage, deleted scenes, and much much more. Maybe some special guests will pop by? Cethan Leahy is a writer, filmmaker, and illustrator. He joins Alan and Sarah to talk about the eccentric American tabloid the Weekly World News. 22: Stephen King with Lisa Coen
Lisa Coen is one half of Tramp Press. We’re big fans of Tramp Press here at Juvenalia so we were delighted when Lisa took a break from the world of high literature to talk to us about her love of Stephen King. As you might imagine, it took us a while to get through it all. Lisa knows so, so much about Stephen King, it was a joy to listen to her for nearly two hours. Sarah went into the episode not caring about Stephen King and came out a convert, clutching a copy of IT. You probably will too. We’ll leave you to it.  If you like Juvenalia, maybe subscribe to us on your podcast app of choice and maybe, maybe, maybe leave a nice review? Hi. There’s a very good chance this is your first time listening to Juvenalia. We hope you like it. We talk to interesting people about pieces of pop culture that were important to them when they were children. In this episode, Alan and Sarah talk to Sara Quin from Tegan and Sara about Madonna’s Truth Or Dare tour documentary and all kinds of things that spring from that. We were very excited to talk to Sara and she was even more of a joy than we could have hoped. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.  If you’re listening to this when it comes out then Tegan and Sara are playing in Vicar Street this Sunday February 19th and you should go, it’ll be great. Bonus Episode! Movieboyz
HELLO! It’s a bonus episode of Juvenalia. We’re delighted to present the pilot episode of Movieboyz, a very special podcast starring some of the biggest boyz in Hollywood. So here’s what happened. We’ve been trying to get Lukas Haas on the show for ages but he was reluctant. We just couldn’t find the right way to entice him to come on. We found out that Lukas really wants to make a podcast with his friends but he’s infamously thrifty and refuses to pay for recording time. HeadStuff have started making their podcast studio available to the public for a small fee so we offered the use of the studio free of charge to Mr. Haas if he’d agree to appear on the show with us. He agreed and turned up with his friends Tobey Maguire, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Kevin “Nick” Connolly, better known as the Pussy Posse from fifteen years ago. They recorded this and then disappeared into the sunset, leaving us with no Lukas Haas interview and twenty minutes of Hollywood stars trying to remember what films they’ve been in. Enjoy.

20: The Exorcist with Liam Nugent and Fr. Declan Quigg
Alan and Ellen were joined by comedian Liam Nugent and Fr. Declan Quigg of the Film Palz podcast to talk about The Exorcist. Things went awry. Truths were revealed. We all learned a lot about ourselves and each other. It’s kind of about The Exorcist and kind of about trendy loolas and kind of about The Godfather and kind of about Liam’s mam. We hope you like it.  You can hear more from Fr. Quigg and occasionally Liam Nugent on the Sunday Sermon podcast. Liam Nugent performs regularly at his local community centre and tries out jokes on twitter Special thanks to Giles Brody and Peter McGann for putting us in touch with Quigg and Nugent. Roe McDermott is the Sex & Sexuality columnist for The Dublin Inquirer, a film critic for Hot Press, and a Fulbright scholar. Somehow, we convinced her to come on our podcast to talk about Wolfgang Petersen’s 1984 children’s fantasy classic The NeverEnding Story. Roe joined Sarah and Alan to talk youth, Trump, depression, feminism, rockbiters, safe spaces, Pantigate, and luck dragons, and we address the most important question of our time: Is Twitter actually Fantasia? The hour just flew by.  Hello if you’re joining us for the first time because of a list you may have seen us on. Hopefully you’ll stick around. 18: Top of the Pops with Sinéad Gleeson
Sinéad Gleeson is a broadcaster, writer, editor of three short story anthologies, host of The Book Show on Radio One, half of The Anti-Room, and all round enviable sound person. She very kindly joined Alan and Ellen to talk about Top of the Pops and related matters. We were a little in awe of her because she’s very cool and interviews important authors and musicians all the time and we’re two plucky ragamuffins just trying our best. We plied her with donuts until she liked us and we had a good old chat. As well as TOTP, we talked about where the young people get their music from these days, hearing songs properly in big clubs, Buster Bloodvessel related accidents, interviewing Kate Bush and loads of other little bits.  Juvenalia is eighteen episodes old! We can legally drink now. We wouldn’t do that though because drinking is immoral.  Follow Juvenalia on Twitter Juvenalia original artwork by Dee McDonnell This episode was produced by Alan Bennett and Alan Maguire.

17: The Innocents with Peter Dunne
Playwright Peter Dunne joins Alan & Ellen to talk about Jack Clayton’s extremely terrifying 1961 horror film The Innocents starring Deborah Kerr. We talked about all kinds of stuff: watching inappropriate things when you’re young which is basically the theme of Juvenalia, creepy children, Salem, Amityville, local mythology, whether any of us actually believe in the supernatural (spoiler: some of us do), Ouija boards, demonic possession, fear, nature v nurture, and loads more. Peter was great, we loved him. Obviously it would have been nice to get this episode out in time for Halloween but that’s not how we roll here and in fact, late November could be a perfect time to watch The Innocents for the first time. Who knows? Peter’s audio horror walking experience Eerie is in Smock Alley until November 30th so get your skates on and Peter’s extreme immersive horror club Morb could be happening anywhere, maybe even behind you right now. Probably not though, probably somewhere scary.  Follow Juvenalia on Twitter Juvenalia original artwork by Dee McDonnell This episode was produced by Alan Bennett and Alan Maguire.

16: The Matrix with Heber Hanly
Dreamgun's Heber Hanly joins Alan and special guest co-host Andréa Farrell to talk about 1999’s dystopian cyber-punk philosophy marital arts and guns classic The Matrix. We talk about the effect a good action film can have on a ten-year old’s brain, getting older, our skincare regimes, Wild Wild West, the blank magic of Keanu Reeves, Heber answers our questions about the plot, and of course, we slam the sequels good and hard. NB: When we recorded the outro, I accidentally turned off my mic so we did our best to salvage what we could from Andréa’s mic so it sounds weird and bad. I’m sorry. I’d like to tell you it won’t happen again but I’m a shambles so we’ll see. Follow Juvenalia on Twitter Juvenalia artwork by Dee McDonnell

14: Jaws with Andréa Farrell
One of our favourite standups and people Andréa Farrell joined Alan & Ellen to talk about Stephen Spielberg’s classic Jaws. Inspired by Spielberg’s sparing use of the shark in Jaws, we often talked about everything and anything besides Jaws, making the bits where we actually talked about the film all the more special. Make sure to listen to the whole thing as at some point we decided to record an episode within an episode about To Kill A Mockingbird just because. This was fun. Comedian, actor, writer, philanthropist, and host of The Alison Spittle Show, Alison Spittle, joins Alan and Sarah for a trip down memory lane as we talk about our wild and varied experiences with chat rooms and message boards. Alison was an old-fashioned troll, the good funny kind not the ones that harass people on Twitter, Alan was boring but earnest, and Sarah forged deep friendships. We cover all the angles here. Comedian Teresa Coyne joins Alan and Ellen to talk about the lesser-known but actually quite good YA series The Saddle Club. It was kind of an equine Babysitter’s Club. Teresa was a fan, Alan’s now a convert, Ellen was jetlagged. A good time was had by all. We learn all about the Saddle Club and Teresa's own history with horses stopping along the way to learn the history of dressage, horse maintenance, helicopter schools, moving from London to the West of Ireland, Dustin the Turkey, car boot sales, old Irish methods for warding off faerie folk, aristocratic French shoe customs, ghostwriters, the majesty of Bonnie Bryant, disappointing TV adaptations, and lots of other stuff. 1: The Fifth Element with Sarah Maria Griffin
Alan Maguire and Ellen Tannam talk to writer Sarah Maria Griffin about a film that was important to her as a teenager, The Fifth Element.  Questions asked and answered in this episode include: Is The Fifth Element a noir? Who would we cast in a gender-swapped The Fifth Element? Is Ruby Rhod a queer icon? Is Bruce Willis a hot dad? Could The Fifth Element be made today? Is it weird and cool that Ellen and Sarah had never met before this episode but have something very important in common? How did Sarah turn some of the issues with being a Woman Who Likes Sci-Fi on their head while writing her first novel Spare And Found Parts? Is there really any need to watch Breaking Bad or True Detective? How strong are Alan’s keratin levels? Also, Jean Paul Gaultier, Bruce Willis’s Disney Sex Thriller, Zelda, Twin Peaks, home cinemas built by dads, CAPITALISM, and loads more.
