I'll hear myself say some crazy stuff sometimes that I know would get me in trouble with listening ears. But that's only because some ideas are too big for sound bites. Some ideas require explanation, conversation and thoughtful interrogation. Ideas like "I blame women." Hear me out though...

Today is mother's day! So of course I'm reflecting on motherhood and what it means to me on today's episode of the Happy Sunday podcast. I hope you enjoy hearing me dish on my favourite person in the whole world and the experience of being her mother. 

To each her own, right? Our differences don't have to make us fight. But if you're like me it can be hard to find common ground with people who go through life in ways that you just can't relate to; ways that you're even ideologically opposed to. I find myself judging and seeking to position myself as morally superior to people. While this can be helpful to strengthen my identity and beliefs, it's also unproductive. Let's talk about it. 

Self interest gets a really bad rep in some circles. We confuse self interest with selfishness. We try to dim individual desires and expressions to replace them with collective thinking and agendas ironically set by a few powerful individuals. But my belief is that humanity would be better off if we all expressed and contributed our unique gifts as individuals to the world. Let's talk about it. 

The experience of rebirth is one that we may experience many times in our lives. Easter is a great day to reflect and ruminate on what it means to be born again. Let's talk about it!

Every one of us has direction, expressions, guidance and creative ideas seeded within us. Recognizing that we have the power to nourish our seeded purpose by choosing faith over fear and positive over negative is a sure way to make a better life for ourselves and every person in our our lives. 

Giving your power over to other people and things is attachment. It's believing and living as if possessions and other people can make or break you. Releasing attachment is taking back your power and saying "You eh make me! So you can't break me!" Let's talk about it. 

There's all sorts of ways to choose to remove yourself from your current circumstances in search of a better life. Let's talk about Exodus -  movement of spirit, money, mind and body. 

Everybody's got a price right? Recently I've been ruminating on the price of my soul. How much money would it take to get me to go against my true nature and do things that don't sit right with me deep down in my spirit. It's safe to say that the devil can't afford me -- at least not yet -- 'cause my soul is still in the driver's seat when it comes to my career decisions and my life. Let's talk about it. 

We have the power to choose where we put our attention, energy and action. I've found that practicing choosing positivity over negativity is a wonderful way to shape my life experience so that I feel better, do better and accomplish the things I set out to achieve in life. 

I'm a Carnival woman. I move through this world like a Carnival woman. I own my body like a Carnival woman. I express myself like a Carnival woman. I have agency and am independent like a Carnival woman. Carnival stays in me 365 days a year, where ever I go. What does that mean? Let's talk about it.

How can we use our will power and faith to change our lives? I use a simple formula that invites us to see, believe, work and then accomplish everything we seek to achieve.

It's boxing day! The day after Christmas seems like a particularly great day to reflect on the way gratitude transforms our lives. My daughter Leisha Imani joins us in this episode of Happy Sunday. Give thanks!

Christmas time has me thinking about the experience of going into stores to exchange money for products. Over and over I've heard very successful Black people talking about times when they've had to fight big designer stores or racist employers to let them buy from and work for them. Is that really something we should be celebrating though? How can put our purchasing power -- and our power in general -- to better use this holiday season?

Meditation is a transformational practice that helped me begin to step into my power like never before. I've found that it helps me with emotional regulation, focus and resilience. If you've never meditated before you'll be happy to know that it's an easy practice that you can do anytime from anywhere. Let's hol' a meds and meditate together. 

I used to love Archie comics! Did I read myself into real life love triangles? Can the stories we tell ourselves shape our lives? How do we pick powerful narratives to tell ourselves so that we can shape our lives positively? Let's talk about it. 

Last week I was taking on a bad eye from a driver on the road and nearly bounced another diver's car. The moral of the story? Study what you're doing. Don't study people. Drive away bad vibes and don't let no bad vibes drive you.
