TO DIET OR NOT TO DIET?: WHAT MAKES US “HEALTHY”? with Rachel Tuchman

TO DIET OR NOT TO DIET?: WHAT MAKES US “HEALTHY”? with Rachel Tuchman

“Omg! You’re so skinny!”….”You look amazing! What did you do?” Many of us have either made or heard comments like this throughout our lives. And it may seem innocent but in this weeks episode, you will find out why body comments like this are more harmful than helpful.

This week I’m continuing the conversation on body image and disordered eating with Rachel Tuchman. This is the second time Rachel has appeared on the show — this time she discusses another topic that she’s very passionate about: Diet Culture.

When most people think of “healthy”, they automatically think of the foods they are supposed to eat and the ones they’re not supposed to eat. Or some of us think health has to do with a certain look. In other words, dieting usually becomes the cure to whatever issues we’re going through. Rachel challenges us to rethink the way we look at health. What does it mean to be a healthy person? Is it just about the food we consume? What about dieting? Does dieting solve our innermost needs?

Rachel answers these questions and so much more. This episode was incredibly eye opening and it made me realize that not only are we so obsessed with dieting and the way we look as a culture, but we are forgetting what it actually means to be a healthy person. I highly encourage you to listen to this episode. You won’t look at dieting the same way again.

Enjoy the show!

EATING DISORDERS: THEY’RE MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK

EATING DISORDERS: THEY’RE MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK

Did you know that 9-12% of eating disorders are between females 5-80 years old? Did you know that Jewish girls could be up to double as likely to be diagnosed with an eating disorder? We are facing an Eating Disorder Pandemic that only got worse since the Covid Pandemic.
🧠 🍲
In this episode, I interview Dr. Marcy Forta who is the founder and director of Atzmi. @atzmi_org. Atzmi offers programs for prevention for the girls, for their parents, and for the educators. As a leading authority on eating disorder education and awareness within the Jewish Orthodox Adolescent Community, Marcy writes and lectures extensively about eating disorder awareness and prevention.
🧠🍲
Marcy sits down with me to talk about the prevalence of eating disorders, how to recognize a potential eating disorder, what we can do to prevent them from happening in the first place, what are some of the treatment plans, and so much more.
🧠🍲
What are some of the ways young girls and women can have healthy self esteem, self-compassion, a positive body image, and healthy relationships? Tune into episode 60 of Soul Sessions with KK to find out.

BE YOUR OWN HEALTH ADVOCATE with Elana Silber, Sharsheret

BE YOUR OWN HEALTH ADVOCATE with Elana Silber, Sharsheret

When most people hear the word breast cancer or ovarian cancer, understandably their first response might be fear or anxiety.

Cancer is a scary road and nobody wants to go there. But the reality is that 1 out of 40 men and women of Jewish ashkenazi descent carry a genetic mutation or pathogenic variant that greatly increases their risk of developing breast, ovarian, male breast, pancreatic, prostate cancer, or melanoma.

Thank God we have Sharsheret (“Chain”). Sharsheret supports Jewish women and their families facing breast and ovarian cancer no matter what stage they are at — before, during, and even after diagnosis.

In this episode I interview the CEO of Sharsheret, Elana Silber. Elana talks to me about how Sharsheret started and how they help women from all Jewish backgrounds facing breast and ovarian cancer. Sharsheret is not just a peer support network, but it also empowers women and their families by raising awareness, educating women and men on risk, genetic screening, and preventative measures, and also providing mental, emotional, and financial support.

This interview was recorded back in April before my moms health took a turn for the worst. Although my mom didn’t have breast or ovarian cancer, Sharsheret was still supporting me and helping me navigate through the highs and lows. This interview is dedicated in the loving memory of my dear mom Raya Karmely z”l, Rachel bat Yosef who passed away on Shavuot.

I hope this interview benefits you as much as it did for me. Enjoy the show.

YOATZOT HALACHA: REIMAGINING MIKVAH EXPERIENCE

YOATZOT HALACHA: REIMAGINING MIKVAH EXPERIENCE

When it comes to being “niddah” or going to the mikveh, there are endless questions. Many of us don’t feel comfortable asking a rabbi these questions which directly relate to our bodies because it is uncomfortable or too intimate. Some of us might also feel like a rabbi can’t relate to what we’re even experiencing. Well that’s where a Yoetzet Halacha comes in…

Meet my friend Lisa Septimus @5townsyoetzet. Lisa is a Yoetzet Halacha otherwise known as a Female Halachic consultant. In episode 58, Lisa talks to me about why there is a need for Yoatzot especially in todays day and age. We also talk about how we can improve the mikveh experience for women, some of the common issues when observing Taharat Hamishpacha, and how Torah values can positively steer a marriage.

As a Teacher, Yoetzet, Kallah teacher, Rebbetzin, Mother, and wife, Lisa has incredible insight and wisdom to share with you. Whether you observe all the laws of family purity or not, you will gain so much from this episode. To quote Lisa herself “Open yourself up to new possibilities”.

THE BLESSING OF A BROKEN HEART with Sherri Mandell

THE BLESSING OF A BROKEN HEART with Sherri Mandell

In this weeks episode, I interview Sherri Mandell. Sherri is an author, speaker, pastoral counselor, and co-founder of the Koby Mandell foundation. When Sherri lost her son to a terrorist attack 20 years ago, her world was dark and grim. Today she shows us how her grieving went from “a dark cave to a birds nest”, as she puts it. You will learn a little about what that means in this episode.

While speaking about Koby was an opportunity to share his story, it was actually writing that helped her cope with loss. Sherri’s first book “The Blessing of a Broken Heart” taught her the power of narrative and how it forces us to find meaning in our lives.

This show is not only about grief and how to comfort people who are grieving, but its about the power of community and that hope is always an option.

This is an important conversation you don’t want to miss.

Please share with anyone you think who could benefit from this topic.

DESPITE THE BUZZ with Tamara Miller Davis

DESPITE THE BUZZ with Tamara Miller Davis

Do you ever wonder what the process of writing a book is like? Meet my next guest, Tamara Miller Davis from Southern California. She explains what led her to write her first book, “Despite the Buzz,” and why it is relevant for our times. Tamara wrote this story in response to technology’s toll on teachers and students. The novel is also about timely social issues and topical interests.  Set in 2019, Tamara captivates a multi-generational audience with her interesting characters, witty observations, romantic elements, educational insights, and thematic material that almost everyone can resonate with.  Whether you grew up before or after the invention of smartphones, you will appreciate this cautionary tale.  The colorful book dives into topics of digital distraction, electronic accountability, and online exposure in a way that’s engaging and exciting.  “Despite the Buzz” of what’s going on in your phone, this artful book will definitely grab your attention and keep you reading.  Enjoy the show! —————————————————————— Tamara is originally from Michigan. Not only has she learned what it takes to be an empowered woman, but she also guides women around the world in living authentic and intentional lives. She has recently published a book called The Empowered Woman’s Journal that helps women like myself focus on the elements in life that truly matter… How does one leave toxic friendships and relationships and find healthier and more meaningful ones? NOT SO STRANGER DANGER: WHEN ITS HAPPENING IN YOUR OWN HOME.

NOT SO STRANGER DANGER: WHEN ITS HAPPENING IN YOUR OWN HOME.

We used to hear “Don’t talk to strangers. Never go into a strangers car. Don’t get candy from a stranger”. Nowadays, the danger with strangers is not so much in the playground, but in your very own home.

In episode 54, I sit down with Rahel Bayar to discuss Online predatory behavior. But something interesting I learned is that online sexual abuse can happen not only from strangers but also from people your children know or even strangers POSING as people your children know.

As a former sex crimes and child abuse prosecutor and a speaker and consultant on Abuse and Harassment Prevention, Rahel makes it very clear that Yes. It can happen to your child.

But before you start panicking, Rahel assures us that with the right attitude and mindset, there is always room to make our kids safer. This is a conversation that you don’t want to miss and will encourage you to start having these conversations with your own kids. Enjoy the show!

CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE: SUPPORT THE VICTIM, NOT THE PERPETRATOR with Asher Lovy

CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE: SUPPORT THE VICTIM, NOT THE PERPETRATOR with Asher Lovy

There are trending topics and then there are topics that must be spoken about at all times. Child sexual abuse is one of them.

Meet Asher Lovy from Za’akah. Since 2012, Za’akah has been at the forefront of the fight against child sexual abuse in the Orthodox Jewish Community, EDUCATING people about child sexual abuse, securing JUSTICE for survivors, and working to prevent child sexual abuse in our communities.

Asher talks to me about abuse prevention and seeking justice for survivors. We also speak in depth about how abuse starts, what kind of culture and circumstances allow sexual abuse to happen, and what we can do as a community to not only prevent it from happening but also the kind of environment we should be fostering for our children to feel safe.

While many people feel uncomfortable around this subject and prefer not to talk about it, that is exactly why I WANT to talk about it. Pretending that our communities don’t have any issues and denying that child sexual abuse happens doesn’t shoo the problem away, but only feeds it more. I highly encourage you to listen to this interview with an open mind and to reach out to Za’akah if you or anyone you know has experienced child sexual abuse. You can find them at

WHEN A DIET ISN’T JUST A DIET with Barbara Schiffer

WHEN A DIET ISN’T JUST A DIET with Barbara Schiffer

We often have a picture in our head of what a person with an eating disorder looks like. Or we think that there must have been something external that contributed to the eating disorder.
💜
Barbara Schiffer @asoberjewishgirl proves otherwise. She grew up in a “normal” home where there was no body shaming nor any comments about food. Barbara takes us inside her complicated internal world and shows us that many of her issues stemmed from having an addictive personality.
💜
How did a simple and harmless diet turn into a full blown eating disorder? Does one ever fully recover? Barbara takes us along her bumpy ride of her eating disorder, rehab, and sobriety.
💜
I challenge you to listen to this interview with an open mind and an open heart. Barbara may not dress or observe like you but she is still a Jew who believes in God and the Torah.

FIGHTING TO HEAL: OVERCOMING THE TRAUMA OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE with Rachel Daar Cohen

FIGHTING TO HEAL: OVERCOMING THE TRAUMA OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE with Rachel Daar Cohen

Sexual Abuse. Debilitating Pain. Numbing. These are just some of the things our next guest will be sharing on the podcast.

Rachel Cohen is a wife and mom to 2 beautiful children and she is a survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse. Rachel is sharing her story for the first time on audio. It was not easy for Rachel to speak about this nor was it easy to listen to. If you have been sexually abused, this may be triggering for you. Listener discretion is advised.

Rachel’s childhood was taken away from her when she was sexually abused at the ripe age of SIX years old. She tells us how it all started and how it affected her as a child, teenager, and adult. She talks to me about how she dealt with her trauma and how she healed. Her hope is to raise awareness that Childhood Sexual Abuse is more common than we think and to help prevent this from happening to children again.

This show is a must listen. Enjoy 💜

TOVA IN ISRAEL: CHOOSING TO SEE THE GOOD with Tova Heller

TOVA IN ISRAEL: CHOOSING TO SEE THE GOOD with Tova Heller

It’s so easy to see the bad in everything and to complain when life gives us lemons. Tova, (as her name describes) chooses to do the opposite: to see the good and the positive.
✡️
In this interview, Tova shares her story of how she left her very comfortable life in New Jersey to Israel, where she wasn't yet fluent in the language or the culture.
✡️
Moving to Israel not only led her to a different job and lifestyle, but it also led her to her new husband Betzalel. She talks about going from a mom of 3 kids to a family with 10 kids. Yeah that’s an adjustment. Tova shares what it’s like to be remarried, but more specifically to a Sabra: a native Israeli.
✡️
In this interview I couldn’t help but notice Tova’s unwavering faith and trust in God. Through everything she has gone through, God was always and will continue to be a major part of her life. In this “Aliyah series”, Tova teaches us that living in Israel might be challenging just like anywhere else, but it’s the choice we make no matter how difficult it is that makes it a life worth living.
✡️
This is a show you don’t want to miss! Enjoy!

I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS: LIVING WITH FIBROMYALGIA with Rebekah Durham

Part 3 of the Aliyah Series, Episode 41 with Rebekah Durham @noshbyrebeka
🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱
Do you or someone you know live with a chronic illness? Do you ever wonder what you could do to help yourself or someone else?

Rebekah talks to me about living with Fibromyalgia, a chronic illness that makes her body go through excruciating pain and fatigue. As a food blogger in Israel, Rebekah has trained herself to stay away from inflammatory foods.

In this interview, you will get a sneak peak into Rebekah’s life. Growing up as a reform Jew, Rebekah tells us how and why she left Memphis, Tennessee to live thousands of miles away in the Holy city of Jerusalem.

How does a Jew shift from a cultural perspective of Judaism to a more Observant perspective? And how can one face the emotional and physical pain of a chronic illness when they are not around their family? Rebekah gives us the secret to living a healthy and wholesome life in this episode. Enjoy the show!

BECOMING RESILIENT: WHAT AMERICANS CAN LEARN FROM ISRAELIS with Dr. Aviva Goldstein

BECOMING RESILIENT: WHAT AMERICANS CAN LEARN FROM ISRAELIS with Dr. Aviva Goldstein

In episode 40, I sit down with Dr. Aviva Goldstein @dravivagoldstein. When she moved to Israel 10 years ago with her family, she fulfilled a dream she had with her husband when they came for Shana Rishona (the first year of their marriage).

Aviva has her Masters and Doctorate from the Field of Education and she speaks about switching gears when she made Aliyah: from working at a school to working with people individually. Aviva and I have a candid discussion about the different challenges that American kids have vs. Israeli kids. By working with Gap Year students (kids who come from the states to learn for a year in Israel), Aviva is able to help them adapt to Israeli culture and become more resilient.

Among other topics, we speak about ADHD, since it’s a hot topic nowadays. Aviva challenges us to see ADHD not as a problem, but as a super strength. Whether it’s ADHD or any other learning disability, we learn that knowledge is constantly evolving and nothing is fixed.

Aviva helps us understand that while their are issues that are unique to America and Israel, there are many things that are universal, one of them being our need for human connection.

Enjoy the show!

There are so many mixed messages regarding the food we eat, how much we eat, and how to feel about our bodies. It’s confusing when on one hand we’re told that dieting empowers us to be in control of our lives. On the other hand, we learn that dieting is the root of all evil.

But lucky for us, Gila Glassberg is on the show today and she is the dose of practicality we all need. Gila is a Masters Level Registered Dietician and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor.

We talk about how and why she became a nutritionist, diet culture and its counteractive culture, and both our struggles with food and over-eating/under-eating.

In this interview, Gila reveals the secret to her healing: Intuitive Eating. What is Intuitive eating all about? Is it about eating whatever you want? Is it a diet, a “lifestyle”, or something not really about food? Find out by listening to episode 38 with Gila Glassberg. Enjoy the Show!

WHAT HAPPENS OUTSIDE THE BEDROOM...STAYS IN THE BEDROOM with Talli Rosenbaum

WHAT HAPPENS OUTSIDE THE BEDROOM...STAYS IN THE BEDROOM with Talli Rosenbaum

In this weeks episode, I have a conversation with Talli Rosenbaum, an individual and couples therapist and a certified sex therapist who together with Rabbi Scott Kahn, has a great podcast of her own called “Intimate Judaism”: www.intimatejudaism.com.

She talks to me about how sex is not an isolated part of our lives, rather it’s part of who we are biologically, psychologically and socially, as well as relationally.

Talli explains that sex is not just something that you do, but a journey you go on with the person you love. We talk about the difference between the male and female sex drive and how certain gender myths and expectations can cause more damage than good. Talli challenges the notion that a couple needs to “succeed” in sex, and stresses the importance of connection, presence and pleasure, over performance.

In this episode, you will learn that a good sex life has less to do with the mechanics and more to do with the actual relationship. It’s all connected.

This conversation is meant for mature audiences only. Listener discretion is advised

You can check out all the amazing work she does on www.tallirosenbaum.com including a book she co- authored: I Am For My Beloved: A Guide to Enhanced Intimacy for Married Couples. . You can find Talli on www.Instagram.com/TalliRosenbaum/. www.instagram.com/intimatejudaism/

STOP JUDGING. START LAUGHING with Leah Forster

STOP JUDGING. START LAUGHING with Leah Forster

Disclaimer: This episode is intended for mature audiences only. It is not meant to offend anyone or push any agenda. Listener discretion is advised.

There are many different sects of Jewish Orthodoxy. You may have heard stories of people leaving their communities or being “off the derech”/off the path because of the intense pressure and stringencies.

Leah Forster @leahforster is here to squash those misconceptions. Born and raised in a Chassidish Ultra Orthodox community, Leah talks to me about how she didn’t leave the community, but how the community left her...

Today, she is a successful comedian whose trademark sound “Chellow chellow “ has been reverberating all over social media. Leah is a mother, wife, and a Jew. In this interview, she talks about how putting people in labels is so “FEH”. (you’ll find out what that means in this episode 😉)

Leah is not just a comedian but she also runs a successful home care business and has been a college and high school educator. We learn from Leah that our political affiliation, sexual orientation, or any other particularities of our identity should not take center stage. Instead the focus should be about what we bring to the world. And Leah is bringing the medicine so many of us desperately need: HUMOR. Enjoy the show! •You can find Leah on

TRAUMA DOES NOT DEFINE ME: MY STORY OF DUAL SURVIVORSHIP

TRAUMA DOES NOT DEFINE ME: MY STORY OF DUAL SURVIVORSHIP

We all know the platitude “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger”. Some of us might scoff at it and some of us might think of Kelly Clarkson. Yet, this episode with Nina Gruenfeld @ninabbey will show you that sometimes our hardships can make us stronger.

Trauma. Abuse. Cancer. Divorce. Nina went through one thing after another. For the first time ever, she is telling her story on “Soul Sessions with KK”.

Not only do we speak about the pain that Nina went through, but we talk about strength and what it means to be a “strong” person. Nina Gruenfeld is a dual survivor: of Hodgkin Lymphoma and Domestic Violence. She uses her survivorship to raise awareness and advocate for each cause respectively. She is passionate about living her best life gratefully each day and helping those going through similar experiences.

This show is about hope, resiliency and perseverance. Her story is truly miraculous. And it is here just in time for Chanukah: the holiday of Miracles! Enjoy the show! 🎙You can now hear this episode on The Shmuzy app too!

“Becoming Exclusive: Changing The Outsider Experience of Jewish Singles" with Rachel Hercman

“Becoming Exclusive: Changing The Outsider Experience of Jewish Singles" with Rachel Hercman

What do you think of when you see someone who is single? What do you think of when you enter Jewish communal spaces as a single adult?

Whether you are single or in a relationship, we can all learn from Rachel Hercman @rachelhercman.

Rachel talks to me about some of the issues Jewish women and men are facing, especially in the pandemic. There are issues in the dating world but there are also challenges of just being single in a Jewish community. While growing up in a family-oriented culture is a beautiful thing, it can also be extremely challenging for people who are not married yet or choose not to be married.

Is there a so called “shidduch crisis” and if there is, what are some ways we can alleviate the challenges?

In this episode, Rachel not only gives an empowering message to our single adults, but more importantly, how we as a community need to re-examine our culture and facilitate not just more introduction but more INTEGRATION. What kind of conversations should we be having with our friends and neighbors? Find out how by listening to episode 29 with Rachel Hercman!

“Don’t Hate Me Because I Don’t Think Like You” with Melinda Strauss

Will @therealmelindastrauss please stand up? Not only does Melinda Strauss stand up for what she believes in, but she does it with passion, drive, and respect.

Melinda started out as a food blogger and photographer sharing her passion and love for cooking and baking. Melinda is also an inspirational speaker but her main profession is health coaching. And even though the diet industry might be getting lots of heat right now, Melinda shares her wisdom on how she rises above all the criticism.

You may not agree with Melinda’s lifestyle choices or her political views. But wherever you stand, you will certainly LEARN from Melinda. Her motto in life is to have respectful conversations with people who think differently. We may disagree but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be kind to each other.

We are living in a time of so much uncertainty and chaos. This conversation will motivate and inspire you (we discuss the difference between the two). Melinda gives us her wisdom on how to dream big and live your best life. Enjoy the show!

“It’s Kosher to Talk About Sex” with Dr. Bat Sheva Marcus

“It’s Kosher to Talk About Sex” with Dr. Bat Sheva Marcus

In this weeks episode, I had the privilege of interviewing the one and only Dr. Batsheva Marcus @drbatsheva. I discovered her work when she was featured in a NY Times article back in 2015 as “The Orthodox Sex Guru.”
💍🌹👫
Dr. Batsheva is not your typical Orthodox Jewish sex therapist. As the Clinical Director of @mazewomenshealth, she believes in both the medical and psychological component of Sex Therapy. In a hypersexualized world where sex is thrown in our faces, Dr. Batsheva encourages us to not shy away from it, but rather to explore it and see what good we can take from it.
💍🌹👫
In this episode, Dr. Batsheva and I talk about intimacy from the perspective of Judaism as it relates to scientific data. But dont worry, we keep it kosher here. Dr. Batsheva discusses the importance of having these conversations with our partners, but also with others!
💍🌹👫
Although there are people who still think its immodest to talk about an intimate subject like sex, Dr. Batsheva argues otherwise. She believes that Judaism promotes vibrant sex lives and it is not a topic that should be buried under the covers (no pun intended). I’m aware that there are opinions within Judaism that treat sex almost as a necessary evil for the sake of procreation, and there is also evidence to suggest that much of the taboo surrounding sex as a “sinful” act is rooted in the Christian concept of Original Sin, which may have had a subconscious influence on Jews over thousands of years as nomads in exile.
💍🌹👫
So, I want to reiterate that this conversation is for traditional and Orthodox Jews who struggle with desire and libido in their otherwise healthy and happy marriages.
💍🌹👫
Dr. Batsheva shows us the importance of a healthy sex life for monogomous relationships and that there are keys we can use to unlock some of the restraints imposed on us for all the wrong reasons. This episode will help you discover that if you view sex as a chore or if it gives you anxiety, you probably just need a slight change in mindset. Enjoy the Show!

“Would You Hand Your Kid a Loaded Gun?” With Collin Kartchner

“Would You Hand Your Kid a Loaded Gun?” With Collin Kartchner

This episode was recorded 2 months before Collin tragically passed away. May this interview reflect the light that he embodied. Collin you are dearly missed. Rest In Peace Collin Kartchner. ———————————————————————————————————The statistics are out regarding the dangers of TikTok and social media on our youth. It’s no longer speculation, the numbers are staggering! So what can we do about it now that the match is already lit? In this episode, we discuss WHY it’s so harmful for our children’s self esteem and emotional well being, the nature of this unprecedented phenomenon (which our generation didn’t grow up with), and expose where the sexual predators lurk.
———————————————————
If you own a smartphone or an iPad (which is probably 100% of you), this episode is a MUST-LISTEN.
📱 🎵 👻
Collin Kartchner @collinkartchner talks to me about the dangers of smartphones and smart tablets for our kids. Collin, an advocate for children and teens, tells me how he started #SaveTheKids and why it is his mission to educate and empower parents and kids alike.
📱🎵👻
In this episode, you will learn why anxiety and depression levels of children have skyrocketed in the last 10-12 years since smartphones/social media came out and why seemingly “innocent” social media apps like TikTok are poisonous for our children’s brains. We speak about how these apps are the gateway to Pornography, Pedophilia, and Sex-Trafficking. Collin and I also discuss the role of the parent and that sometimes we need to make the hard decision to NOT do what “everyone else is doing”.
📱🎵👻
If you are a parent, this may be one of the most important interviews you will listen to. Collin is an expert in this field with a #TedTalk with close to 400,000 views on YouTube, a host of the #3 parenting podcast on iTunes, and a speaker with 300-500 gigs a year.
📱🎵👻
Before you go and throw your child’s tablet in the garbage, listen to the interview. You will discover that Collins goal is not to frighten you, but to EMPOWER you. “Saving the Kids” starts with education and communication. And it starts from the home. Enjoy the show!

“Finding The Humor In Hard Times” with Chani Lisbon

Sharing our pain with others is the hardest thing to do but oftentimes the best thing for our growth and healing. And we may not realize it but sharing our painful experiences will help others learn to deal with their own struggles. That’s exactly what happened when @chani_lisbon opened up and shared her most vulnerable side with the world on a post about her #alopecia . Someone sent it to me and I started connecting with her because it really hit home for me.
💜
In this weeks episode, Chani talks to me about the importance of asking for help as well as being open about our pain with others. She speaks about challenging times in her life, from hair loss to alcohol addiction. But she also talks about healing: through gratitude, inner work, and comedy. (Chani is a Stand-Up Comedian btw 😍)

Do you ever take your Judaism for granted? I, for one, have definitely taken it for granted. When you are born with something or used to something, complacency can kick in.

“I’m More Than A Color” with Ilana Ybgi

This week I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Ilana Ybgi. Ilana is a Brooklyn based artist and part of the Chabad community. Ilana is also a woman of color.
👩🏾‍🎤
This episode will allow you to see the world through her lens as an artist, a frum Jew, and a woman of color. We speak about the importance of positive role models as well as being surrounded by people who can relate to us. We talk about racism and discrimination, particularly in the “Orthodox Jewish community. “
👩🏽‍⚕️
I was moved by Ilana’s faith, wisdom, and outlook on life. Ilana reminded me that it’s not enough to protest and it’s not enough to tweet. The real change happens through our day to day interactions with people who are different from us.
👩🏾‍⚖️
When listening to Ilana, you will learn that it’s not about being black and it’s not about being white. It’s about our actions, behavior, and character traits.
