Etiquette of Professional Interactions in Graduate School with Dr. Alyssa Pirinelli
One of the biggest learning curves as a first-generation student is understanding the etiquette of professional interactions in graduate school. I feel like students raised in the South have a little sharper edge on this topic than a large portion of the country that tries to minimize accomplishments and interact as equals, but that can be a dangerous assumption in higher ed.
Dr. Alyssa Pirinelli will be joining us today to share her experiences and words of caution as we all learn to communicate more professionally within our programs and workplace.
Dr. Pirinelli is an experienced Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Morris with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. She is a strong education professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry and glycobiology from Indiana University Bloomington.

The Power of Stories to Inspire Your Doctoral Journeys with Dr. Caryn Lindsay
Dr. Caryn Lindsay, an intercultural trainer, and coach with Life Stories Matter share why stories matter to ground us and fuel us to keep moving forward during difficult doctoral endeavors.
With 30 years of experience in diplomacy and international education, Dr. Lindsay has lived and worked in Chile, Germany, Italy, and Kosovo and love the depth of understanding that only comes with speaking a country's language. Within the U.S., she has experienced rich cultural communities while working in Kentucky, Minnesota, New York, and Washington, D.C. During her higher education career, she established partnerships with universities in Australia, China, France, Germany, Ghana, and the Netherlands. She was a volunteer program facilitator with the Greater Mankato Diversity Council and wrote her dissertation on that community's response to its increasing diversity.
She is known for:
-- building effective intercultural relationships, partnerships, and networks that contribute to programs, organizations, and students.
-- Creatively designing and managing strategic and innovative programs that address both participants’ and the institution’s objectives is one of her strengths.
She speaks Spanish and German fluently and intermediate Albanian, Italian and Portuguese.
Dr. Lindsay welcomes comments and dialogue to help encourage your story to develop.
