The resource curse with Mulonda James Ntale

The resource curse with Mulonda James Ntale

Cobalt is a hard silvery-white magnetic metal that is a byproduct of mined copper and nickel. It is one of the world’s most important natural resources and the DRC is estimated to posses 70% of its global supply. It is said to be 'the new blood diamond’.

This mineral is in hot demand because it is a critical component of batteries used in electric vehicles and electronic devices.Mining cobalt is now linked to grave human rights and environmental abuses including the exposure of miners to unsafe worksites and its reliance on child labour. It is estimated that at-least 25000 children are working in informal cobalt mines in the DRC.

Shoshi and Shubert speak to Mulonda James Ntale, know professionally as Jamamusiic about his lived experience as a child miner in The Democratic Republic of Congo, moving to Australia and channelling his pain to help the next generation.

We are also joined by Jamamusiic's manager Bob.

Vodou

Vodou

Vodou, also spelled Voodoo, Voudou, Vodun, or the French Vaudou is a worldview encompassing philosophy, medicine, justice and religion. Its fundamental principle is that everything is spirit.Humans are spirits who inhabit the visible world. The unseen world is populated by Iwa (spirits), mystè (mysteries), anvizib (the invisibles), Zanj (angels) and the spirit of ancestors. All these spirits are believed to exist in a mythic land called Ginen, a cosmic 'Africa.'
