Hidden Blessings Of Lifes Challenges

Hidden Blessings Of Lifes Challenges

Stephen was married 10 years to what he called his “soul mate”–during their 10 years of marriage they may have had at the most 3 arguments, they saw life in the same way but one day “she slipped off mentally…detached from reality”—she woke up 2am and she thought someone was in their yard trying to kill her, which led to the paramedics taking her to the hospital to have a mental health evaluation––there were many more situations similar to this one. She was diagnosed with a mental illness and was prescribed medication which seemed to help her until she stopped taking it…which led to more incidences, including running away from home, living on the streets, sleeping in her car, and running up her credit cards. During these difficult times, she ran up a credit card debt of $100k. She never was able to “regain her balance”

But this story isn’t Stephen’s wife’s it’s about him and how he faced this difficulty in his life. He said about this time with his wife “was challenging and devastating on many levels…” because of his journey he has written a book “Mental Illness: A Support Guide for Families and Friends” for people who may have someone they love dealing with a mental health issue…it’s a guide for the caretakers and how they can navigate through the mental anguish and fatigue of taking care of a loved one dealing with a prognosis of a mental health illness.

Episode 35 Outdoorsy To Autoimmune Disease To Listening To Her Body And Using Her Mind To Healing with Holly Stokes

Episode 35 Outdoorsy To Autoimmune Disease To Listening To Her Body And Using Her Mind To Healing with Holly Stokes

Holly’s story starts in 2005 when she was working as a white water rafting guide. She loved living the outdoors life, she’d wake up to the blue sky, and this was her passion. Before becoming a white water rafting guide she worked with at-risk teens as a backpacking wilderness guide. One day her life's passion came to a sudden halt because of an autoimmune disease. After tenacious trial and error,  Holly was able to feel better, once again able to do the things she loves, that she was told she would never be able to do. Best of all she no longer needs any meds. Holly now helps others on their path to healing.

Her advice

1. Do your research–there are many different answers, some of which may be non-traditional

2. Pay attention to your body–keep a notebook of what you’re eating, and notice how your body reacts

3. Everyone's journey is different

4. Hone into your intuition

5. Visualize yourself healthy and whole

6. Work through the different layers, including the unconscious work

7. Keep the faith–-believe that there is something out there that can help you

Episode 30 Building Self-Compassion with Avery Thatcher

When Avery started her career as a Registered Nurse working in the ICU she noticed that the majority of the reasons people found themselves in the ICU were because of illnesses and diseases that could be linked to chronic stress. She decided to get out of the reactive side of medicine and now helps highly sensitive high achievers prevent burnout and reverse the negative health effects of stress. After experiencing a significant change in health in 2018, Avery had to learn to redefine her identity and grieve the loss of who she used to be. Now she shares her story openly to help others realize that they are not alone in their struggles, and talks about the strategies that helped her heal along the way. She is the CEO and founder of the Inner Stillness Outer Chaos Podcast and the Flow State Membership.

Episode 29 Raised In A Cult , She was Abused And Suffered Severe PTSD with Lori Christensen

Lori was raised in a cult and severely abused, which she repressed until her late 30's when she started to have flashbacks and seizures. Now with her new medical condition (flashbacks and seizures) she had to continue to work because she was a single mother needing to raise her children. Doctors didn't know what to do to help her and in the process misdiagnosed and overmedicated her. Medical professionals told her that she was stuck and she continued to get worst. She was devasted with her medical prognosis. She started off with 2-3 jobs, raising her sons, buying her own home to losing it all. She later found out that she was struggling with PTSD. She struggled with PTSD for many years, but she found a way to heal herself and others.

The advice she gives

1. Don't give up

2. You're going to find a way

3. You're not the only one, we're here for you

4. It's important to remember the spiritual aspect of your healing

Episode 26 The What And Where To Bringing Miracles Into Our Lives with Angel Lyn

Episode 26 The What And Where To Bringing Miracles Into Our Lives with Angel Lyn

Angel was living the life she grew up believing was the best life she could, she "checked off all of the boxes". She was happy, living that life with her husband and children, operating a business together with her husband, until....2016 Angel got a phone call telling her that there was a warrant for her husband's arrest---and this is the moment where she experienced an existential crisis, it was like her "world was blown up"--she was shocked because there was no indication that her husband would be involved in any illegal activities. Shock, fear, disbelief, etc. Immediately after getting the call, not knowing what to do, she went into her bedroom where she had her books that she had always relied on to get answers...scriptures, sacred writings...but this time it was different, she needed a direct answer to what to do...instead she "turned directly to God", pleading with total surrender and asked "what do I do next"---willing and desperate to accept any answer she would get...her answer was unexpected and didn't quite make sense, but from that experience, she learned how to speak to God and miracles occurred...

Episode 18 the Butterfly Experiment Escaping The Cocoon with Annette Wasden

From a survivor of abuse, trauma, and neglect, which resulted in PTSD, living in what she called "a dark cacoon."  She was misdiagnosed,  overmedicated, hospitalized in a mental institution, and given electric shock treatments, she was turned over to the state by her husband and parents with no promise to ever leave. She wasn't able to talk, walk, or make decisions for herself ("literally a vegetable"). She was blessed to have 2 doctors who believed in her and who taught her how to ask questions to get better, heal, and to become the successful person ("butterfly") she is. She now owns businesses and has written a best-seller book, "The Butterfly Experiment." Annette gives a deeply insightful guide to getting back to your "true self" again - in order to truly heal and move on.

Some of the advice she gives is

1. Do not ever think you are alone

2. Find the people that can support and help you

3. Ask questions

4. Don't give up

Episode 17 Recovery From Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Life with Susan Westwood

My guess on today's podcast had to overcome guilt, shame, and public humiliation in her journey to sobriety. She had to face 2 major things while recovering from alcoholism and those 2 things were her alcoholism and systemic racism in a very public and embarrassing way, which went viral, due to an incident of heavy drinking and accusing some people of wrongdoing which lead to her losing her apartment, job, facing criminal charges and changing her life forever.
