Kendra needs a babbling brook, but gets a babbling Ken instead
What a week. Ken and Kendra talk Twin Peaks: The Return, True Blood, and Men In Black. Is it too much scifi? No such thing.

Kendra & Ken’s all-time top 5: Peri, Peri, Peri, Peri & Joan Cusack
Our alternate title: Kendra and Ken ask Jake Lacy to warm their butters In this episode, we discuss High Fidelity, the new Hulu show, that Kendra watched despite being afraid of commitment while being so committed to staying in her apartment.  It stars Zoë Kravitz and she is utterly cool in this and probably real life. Listen to the ep and get our thoughts on the whole thing.

We turn 100! (Kendra is 28, Ken is 72)
Kendra and Ken celebrate their 100th show and 2-Year Anniversary of Two Degrees of Peri Gilpin. They do so in full rambling incoherent glory. They thank their fans, they thank each other, and they thank Peri, for not suing their collective butt.  Listen and have fun! Love each other. STAY INSIDE.  ❤️ Until next week ❤️

Ken and Kendra put on their bonnets and talk Emma
In this episode, Ken and Kendra casually talk about coronavirus for the first 5 minutes and then stop talking about it completely and instead shift to Emma! It's a movie directed by Autumn de Wilde and is very fun and good. We talk about Johnny Flynn, Anya Taylor Joy, and our true enjoyment of cinema!

Ken and Kendra break up with the Joker and now THEY run this town.
Kendra and Ken saw Birds of Prey, etc, etc and they really liked it! With some quibbles. But Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Journee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as The Huntress and Rosie Perez make it all so much fun! Ewan McGregor and Chris Messina play the bad guys and they’re mostly fun to watch too. The plot was a lot, the editing was a bit much, but the movie was kind of just right. We recommend. Ken also recommends First Cow, Kelly Reichardt’s latest slow-burning masterpiece about friendship on the American frontier in the early 19th century. Kendra responds, “ooo look at me, I’m Ken, I watch indie movies, ooo, I’m a precious little boy!” Aw, they love each other. See you all next week!

Locke and Key is set in a fictional Massachusetts town, Kendra relates
Kendra is here to talk about her favorite things: Peri Gilpin, The 100 and now, Locke and Key. Ken is all ears, and no key teeth. He also recommends Kendra’s latest bonus ep of Someone Lived Here, wherein she visited and discussed Orchard House, a childhood home of Louisa May Alcott. He does not recommend Alien 3, which he rewatched recently after about 25 years. He’s been telling people that it’s not half bad. Which is true, because it’s all bad. He also suggests not trying to scare yourself by looking into a mirror in a dark bathroom. Yes, he’s weird. Anyway, enjoy the show!

If Timothee Chalamet is The King that makes Kendra a commoner per usual
Ken will send me a text at some point that will go in here.

We get an Oscar by changing Ken's name to Oscar
Kendra and Ken talks Oscars! They’re happy about Parasite, sad about Great Gerwig’s loss, and truly still befuddled about the reason behind Eminem’s performance. They approve of Pitt and Dern, but wonder what Renee Zellweger’s speech was about. They know what Joaquin Phoenix speech was about: milk! They also take the time to declare their sickness, as well as their full support for Kendra’s other podcast. It’s called Someone Lived Here and there’s a bonus ep out now about the Louisa May Alcott house. Ken is in no way jealous about this other podcast and has no problems with Kendra’s two-timing, backstabbing nature. Finally, in light of awards season being over, they wanted to remind everyone about the original impetus of the podcast: the utter shock that Peri Gilpin never won an Emmy for Frasier. These award shows need to get their act together! See you next week!

Kendra and Ken discuss Sex Education, ie the Super Bowl Halftime Show
Kendra and Ken are back, talking Super Bowl Surprises, Oscar snoozes, but mostly the beautiful intricacies of the Netflix show Sex Education. Kendra ranks the villains of the show, while Ken defends the lead character Otis, perhaps protesting too much. Ken also shouts out the music on the show, particularly Ezra Furman whose soundtrack for the show has just recently been released. Of course Gillian Anderson rules. But they both want to take the time to point out the bright shining brilliance of Ncuti Gatwa, who plays Eric. He’s the heart and soul of the show, and the main reason they both call the show one of their favs. Also one of their favs? Peri Gilpin, of course! See you next week!

Ken fights the final boss in 1917, Bill Nighy in Detective Pikachu
Ken and Kendra are back, discussing lost dogs, the year 1917, Henry Cavill’s thighs and Bill Nighy becoming a Pokémon Pokéman. Ken really loved 1917 (The Movie) but doesn’t want it to win Best Picture. Kendra saw Detective Pokémon and doesn’t want it to win best picture either. She also finished The Witcher on Netflix. She remains disturbed (impressed?) by Henry’s ham hocks. Ken thought he lost his dog but she was just in the other room, dreaming about Henry’s ham hocks. Kendra and Ken’s dog then had a discussion about Henry’s ham hocks. Ken, feeling left out of this ham talk, daydreamed of a Parasite. No, not trichinosis. He really wants the movie to win at the Oscars. Anyway, have a listen. It’s a good one. See you next week!

Kendra and Ken talk Oscars! Dogs! Cavills!
Kendra and Ken talk Oscars! Dogs! Cavills! Atwells! And classic modern Westerns from 1971! Kendra, coming off the high of adding copper highlights to her newly self-furbished kitchen, wonders if she has time for Cavill and his monster hi-jinx in The Witcher on Netflix. But sure, why the hell not, she’s game! Ken, coming off the high of finally seeing Robert Altman’s 1971 classic anti-western McCabe & Mrs. Miller, as well as getting a dog whom he already loves and adores more than anything, also loved and adored the Starz-BBC joint-joint Howard’s End. Hayley Atwell shines in it. Ken pleads, “Put Hayley Atwell in more things!” Kendra agrees but Ken can tell her thoughts are elsewhere. She’s dreaming of more copper. ‘More copper, less bards’ is her motto. It makes sense if you listen to the ep! Anyway, hi Peri!

Kendra Raves. Ken Rants. The dynamic duo is back!
Please join Kendra and Ken in celebrating the 2010s. They’re gone but only the first half of the decade is forgotten. Ken rants and then Kendra raves...about her fav shows from the last 10 years. She reiterates Fleabag’s greatness but also brings up faves The 100 and The Leftovers. She also laments the early canceling or Sweet/Vicious, an MTV show ahead of its time in rightfully hating men. Ken does his part to be hateable by revealing that his best-of-the-decade movie list is made up of 15 flicks and 10 more as an honorable mention. His top two aren’t surprising but neither are the rest of his picks, don’t you worry. We’re excited to move into 2020, even with all the problems in the world. As Brad Pitt said at the Globs (sic) last night, “if you see a chance to be kind to someone tomorrow, take it...I think we need it.” We agree! Hi Peri! We wish you happiest New Year!

Then Kendra jumps into Looking for Alaska on Hulu which has a great connection to Peri and soundtrack, along with other things Kendra didn't like.

Ken and Kendra wave at passing trains filled with elderly gentleman
Skip to minute 4 if you don’t want to hear a story about Ken getting a burrito bowl. This week’s episode we discuss a beautiful miss mash of tv and movies. Ken watched John Carpenter’s They Live. Kendra hit the nail on the head when she called Ken insufferable. Kendra explains the best part of Euphoria (pretty much Zendaya). She also saw Railway Children a 2000 Masterpiece Classic about kids who hang out near the railway because of treason. She liked it so much she immediately changed the subject and talked about a Netflix trailer.

Ken once again brings his decisive thoughts on Deadwood, saying, “Yeah, it’s good.” Ken loves Succession, but asks, “why does everyone love it. Where is the hate?” And Kendra explains why Euphoria is very nice and less about raves than she feared, more about Carnivals. Hydration continues to be Kendra’s number one boy.

Kendra is Astra-nomically meh about Tall Girl
Ken talks about Ad Astra with Brad Pitt which he has seen two times. Ken’s opinion is somewhat complicated but is pretty much that he liked it. Kendra discusses Netflix’s Tall Girl, which is a real rollercoaster with so many questionable decisions which she outlines for Ken like only a true friend can. And the degrees of separation to Peri! Steve Zahn is the dad in Tall Girl. He was also in Stuart Little with Nathan Lane, who played a THIEF in an episode of Frasier. We love it all!

Kendra grants herself a birthday wish: zero dystopian tubes
This week is robot themed. Kendra talks about her in-flight films that all centered around robots. Alita: Battle Angel and A.X.L. The first one is about a society with cyborgs that includes a floating metropolis fed by tubes. Not cool for the people who have to keep the tubes fed.  A.X.L is about a BMX biker who befriends a violent military dog robot. It is very bad and was a mistake. Ken tried to get in a couple of words about Terminator movies, but NOPE -- no time. Only weird robot movies, non successful franchises invited.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin is she was in How to Kill Your Neighbors Dog with Jared Harris. Who is in Carnival Row, which Kendra WILL be watching.
September 10, 2019

Once Upon a Time on Kendra’s puzzle table
Ken and Kendra talk recent theatrical releases, The Farewell and Once Upon a Hollywood. Ken unapologetically loves the former and apologetically loves the latter. They also discuss Austrian Border Scams that prey on unsuspecting and spineless tourists (Ken). Kendra also once again proclaims her love of puzzles and then proceeds to Virgo-hulk out on any perceived nonsense from Ken. Finally we Invite any listener to connect this week’s to Peri. The evergreen answer is our love of her but of course that doesn’t count. Another ep, another winner from the Peri Pair themselves, Kendra & Ken!

Ken also answers some of Kendra's extraordinarily basic questions about SpiderMan: Far from Home and refuses to answer.  Kendra goes over her recent watch of Bohemian Rhapsody and is finally able to explain that Ken is right, that didn't deserve an academy award. Thanks for listening you goofballs.

Ken doesn’t know his answer, but Kendra most certainly does.  Kendra dives into her new obsession The Fosters that just feels like a warm hug. The best part is the theme song/ credit roll which just has household items sitting around. It’s pretty much progressive 7th Heaven and Kendra loves it. And our connection to Peri Gilpin one of the moms in The Fosters is Teri Polo, whose first name is notably similar to Peri. She was in an episode of Frasier playing a lawyer in the year 2000.

Does this make Jon Snow our uncle?
Ken and Kendra unwillingly dive into the first episode of season eight of Game of Thrones. They are not your usual recappers so expect confusion, name mix-ups, and generally untrue facts. Kendra makes sure to mention red headed beard man AKA viking dude. Kendra also tries to understand the difference between the Brans, Bronns, and where Brawny man fits in with his paper towels. (The red wedding sure could have used them.) And our connection to Peri Gilpin. Peter Dinklage is on Game of Thrones playing Tyrion Lannister. Peter Dinklage was in the Station Agent with Patricia Clarkson! Patricia Clarkson was in Frasier. Done. She will also be in a movie playing Edna St Vincent Millay, if Kendra has the ability to cast people in her mind for roles that don't yet exist. Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. You can call into us at 410.914.7374. If you want to email us use Follow us below:

Daniel Sharman teaches us the meaning of capitalism in Medici
Kendra tells Ken the beautiful story of Medici, the new Netflix series that tells the story of the Medici family. Ken politely listens as he really gets a history lesson told by a dope who watched a show over a week ago. The show has two seasons. The first following Richard Madden who is Cosimo Medici, who is not a bodyguard, but a banker. The second season is how we got into this show because Daniel Sharman, our fave from Teen Wolf, is Lorenzo Medici. Lorenzo Medici was a boss and his season is truly great and I highly recommend.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin. Sean Bean was in Medici season 2 playing Señor Pazzi. Sean Bean was in the Big Empty with Kelsey Grammar! So that’s a very simple two degrees.  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. And if you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! If you want to email us use Follow us below:

Ken doesn't have a dog to give mushrooms to and that's a good thing
Kendra and Ken talk about Shrill, the Hulu Original starring Aidy Bryant based on Lindy West's book by the same title. Ken and Kendra discuss the shows similarities with the book. We review the first episode shift that allows her to start asking for what she wants,  the reaction by her boss and the public regarding her writing, and the classic story of hurting your friends. At the start of the show, Ken and Kendra discuss the episode that will never be and Kendra's way of saying NSYNC, solely due to lack of knowledge. And our connection to Peri Gilpin is just one beautiful degree. Julia Sweeney plays Aidy Bryant's mom in Shrill and also played Peri Gilpin's friend in a 2003 episode of Frasier! Call us and leave a voicemail we might play on the show with 410-914-7374. Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you.

Ken FINALLY joins the Pen15 club
Ken and Kendra discuss Hulu’s Pen15 with a call in from our number one fan from the Boston branch, Hannah Gagnon. We give absolutely zero intro information on Pen15, but it’s a show set deeply in the early 2000s telling the story of two friends who are in middle school. The whole team deeply relates to the show and are big fans of what Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine have made! AIM what a messy place for predators and friends. We also relive our middle school best friendships and really explore how the show mirrors life so closely that it's sometimes hard to watch. We once again didn’t do a connection to Peri Gilpin, mostly because the show is mostly cast with 12 year olds. But Richard Kern is in Pen15 and we would love for you to call in and find us the connection between Peri and him.  Call us and leave a voicemail we might play on the show with 410-914-7374. Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. Follow us below:

And our connection to Peri Gilpin that we forgot to mention because we were distracted by our new phone number. Brie Larson is the star of Captain Marvel. She was also in The Glass Castle, which is not I Capture the Castle (like I wish it was) with Woody Harrelson. Woody Harrelson we have done a million times and was in an episode of Frasier. Kendra teaches a Deadly Class about Umbrella Academy
This week we are joined by our friend Tim, who we forced to say nothing. Thanks for making our theme song, Tim. Ken also has some final thoughts on Netflix’s Sex Education despite us talking about it two weeks ago. Then we get into our major topic of the day. Superhero academy shows.  Kendra compares Netflix’s Umbrella Academy (starring Ellen Page) with SyFy’s Deadly Class (starring Lana Condor). Kendra is a much bigger fan of Deadly Class and has a lot of reasons why. Ken politely follows along. More importantly the set of Umbrella Academy feels like a pretty simple mansion. Eh. And our connection to Peri Gilpin that took just seconds. French Stewart plays a psychopath teacher at the murder academy. French Stewart was also in 3rd Rock from the Sun with John Lithgow. John Lithgow is a voice cameo on the 1995 episode of Frasier, "Someone to Watch Over Me."  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. We talk the Oscars: Ken you believe it?
This week Ken and Kendra cover the Oscars while celebrating their 50th episode. They talk their favorite moments (Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, Spike Lee winning Best Screenplay, Olivia Coleman being very charming, Chris Evans) and our least favorite moments (not going to get into it in the description, listen to the ep). And our connection to Peri Gilpin is that she covered the whole event! Check her Instagram to see her favorite moments that we also favorited.  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. Kendra wants to retitle Sex Education, Ken asks “what’s sex”
This week Ken and Kendra discuss the Netflix show Sex Education. The two discuss the show as a whole, our opinions on the opening scene and the themes of friend betrayal in teen movies and teendom. If you want to skip our complete deep dive into the 5th episode skip 15:20 to 32:00. Sex Education features the acting talents of Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, and Gillian Anderson. Kendra’s favorite character is Eric, played by Ncuti Gatwa. He is the best and his storyline is very easy to cry with.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin that we have done before is just one beautiful degree. Gillian Anderson (not British) was in an episode of Frasier with Peri Gilpin called Dr. Nora (Dr. Nora was played by Christine Buranski!). We are very proud of this one degree and shall hang it on the wall.  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. The Mummy (2017) is not Kendra's Mummy
This week Ken and Kendra talk The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy (2017). Kendra talks about how Brendan Fraser version is the best and Tom Cruise is lacking. Ken says Tom Cruise is the best. (Cue Kendra’s sigh.) We give quick tips for what to do if you run into a sandstorm that has a mummy’s face in it. The most famous Nick (Jake Johnson) is in The Mummy (2017). Nick Miller then has to talk to Tom Cruise’s character who’s name is Nick Morton. It’s a nightmare. And our connection to Peri Gilpin that took us an eternity to figure out, but we cut all that out. Jake Johnson and Annabelle Wallis were both in The Mummy (2017) and Tag (2018) with Hannibal Burress. Hannibal Buress was in Broad City which Peri Gilpin was also in playing Abbi’s mom. The balloons in Killing Eve still have Kendra floating on air
This week Ken and Kendra talk British shows with the series Killing Eve, a quick plug for Sex Education on Netflix, and an even quicker love note for Big Dreams, Small Spaces, a British garden show with host Monty Don. Before we get into all that, Ken and Kendra dive into their dreams and goals for Zac Efron’s career. We want him to only play people in high school or college. Once he gets too old to play a college student we will allow him to do the Rodney Dangerfield back to school thing. This is just a lot saying we don’t want to see “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile”. In our conversations about Killing Eve (BBC America, Hulu) we discuss the performances of Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, while also discussing our general reverence for Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Kendra’s favorite part of the whole show Villanelle’s apartment and her absolutely perfect taste in balloons. That doesn’t mean Kendra didn’t like the show it means Kendra truly LOVED the fancy spherical balloons.  Next up, Kendra recommends the crowd and Ken watch Sex Education (Netflix). Ken says he will but can’t be trusted. And in conclusion we discuss a recommendation from current Britain resident, Carrie. She told Kendra about the show Big Dreams, Small Spaces (Netflix) which is in keeping with the theory that titling shows isn’t for everyone. It features the apparently super famous Monty Don who helps people make beautiful gardens in their small yards. Everyone is in love with him and the whole thing is both charming and like watching an archeological study on fame.  Despite mentioning that we connect a show with Peri Gilpin every episode we forgot to find two degrees of connection this episode, but we have them. Sandra Oh from Killing Eve was in the movie Sideways with Virginia Madsen. Virginia Madsen was in an episode of Frasier titled “When a Man Loves Two Women” in which Frasier loves two women. To this Ken and Kendra both say, “ugh and gross.” Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. Kendra forces Ken to lip sync and shimmy in honor of Lizzie McGuire
Ken and Kendra quickly review the Oscar nominees and say, “ehhh, not for me, but good for Glenn Close.” Ken talks about how he was at the same coordinates as Peri Gilpin and his biggest fear was having to explain to Peri Gilpin his own degree of connection to her.  This week Ken and Kendra watched The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) which according to Kendra was an absolute hit and according to Ken he would have preferred being hit. We have a real fun time going through the movies artfully made plot holes and exaggerations. We ask many unanswerable questions like why was Paulo hanging out at the Trevi fountain? Why did Lizzie bail on Gordo for a full hour and a half? Why does Lizzie McGuire have a famous Italian doppelgänger who has a terrible accent? And our connection to Peri Gilpin. The Lizzie McGuire Movie leading lady, Hilary Duff was in A Cinderella Story with Jennifer Coolidge. Jennifer Coolidge was in a season 8 episode of Frasier entitled “Forgotten But Not Gone”. That’s two degrees everyone. If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! The first 25 Listener Supporters will get a t-shirt. We watch Eighth Grade and choose not to relive our eighth grades
The buttons are in and look very cool! Remember if you didn’t DM us on Instagram (@degreesofperi) to get a button you still can. Kendra tells the quick and sad story about how she went to Bumblebee to hear Dylan O’Brien and was severely disappointed. Ken revels in her misfortune.  This week Ken and Kendra watched Eighth Grade which has Kendra questioning how we spell eighth. We talk about how awkward eighth grade is and how well Bo Burnham captures the people who fill your adolescence. Fun fact Ken went to the same high school as Bo Burnham. And our connection to Peri Gilpin. The Bumblebee star who isn’t Dylan O’Brien is Hailee Steinfeld who was in Edge of Seventeen with Woody Harrelson, who was a KEY character in Cheers and was in the episode of Frasier entitled, “The Show Where Woody Shows Up” If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! Johnny Flynn beat Napoleon at Waterloo; Kendra watches
Wow! We announce our biggest NEWS yet, beyond Peri getting verified on Instagram. We are getting buttons for the podcast. If you want to get your hands on a button you better follow us on Instagram and reach out (supplies are limited). Ken tells us about the movie he saw at the fancy Metrograph, Leave No Trace. It’s about a sad man who lives in the woods with his daughter. Ken related to this movie that starred Ben Foster (he was Angel in X-Men) the exact correct amount.  Kendra walks everyone through her favorite show that uses Waterloo as a backdrop, Vanity Fair. It’s based off a William Thackery book. The show stars Olivia Cooke (from Bates Motel or Ready Player One depending on your viewing habits) and Johnny Flynn (from Kendra watching youtube videos in college and Scrotal Recall/ Lovesick). It’s just 7 episodes and they are about 50 minutes. It’s all very British and charming and has a fairly happy ending. Yay! And our connection to Peri Gilpin. We really phoned it in on this one and asked everyone to just check out her Instagram instead. We at one point mention Laura Linney and she was in fact what ended Frasier so, I guess that does it. Ken turns into SpiderKen in our multiverse
We dive into the Marvel universe. Ken and Kendra both watched Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and were very into it! And don’t worry not too spooky with the spiders in this movie. Hailee Steinfeld is SpiderGwen, so she had a busy promo month (Bumblebee) Then Kendra walked us through her new latest show pastime, The Runaways. The Runaways is a Marvel comic from 2003 that is now a Hulu Original. She likes it. It includes a dinosaur, a witch, and a guy with cool gloves and many more. Kendra is deep on the season 2 after watching last year.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin. Lily Tomlin was Aunt May in Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (she was great). Lily Tomlin was Rita on a call in episode in 1994. So fun! If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! The first 25 Listener Supporters will get a t-shirt. We wish you a Peri New Year!
We get into the New Years spirit by explaining our resolutions and talk about who has been called Kenny more in their lifetime. Ken discusses the films he saw between Christmas and New Years. It’s Ken, so its a long list and you should buckle up. He saw The Destroyer with Nicole Kidman, Vice by the people who made The Big Short, and finally Mary Poppins which he saw with his familia. Kendra would have joined the boys of Ken’s family in watching Bumblebee but was too busy showing her own family The Spy Who Dumped Me.  Kendra subtly brings up that she got her wisdom teeth out as a form of excuse for why she watched Netflix’s Tidelands in less than 24 hours. The show is an Australian casual mermaid show that doesn’t bother paying for any underwater special effects cause the whole story is just about drugs. Kendra would highly recommend and if anyone from Australia is listening we are extremely sorry about all the Tidelander accent stuff.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Angela Lansbury was the Ballon Lady in Mary Poppins Returns and was the star of Murder She Wrote, which Jane Leeves was in for an episode in 1987. Jane Leeves was the Daphne to Peri Gilpin’s Roz in the critically and our-podcast acclaimed show, Frasier. If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! 2018 in review: Kendra talks TV, Ken talks music, everyone talks miscellaneous
We celebrate Christmas by unwrapping our favorite TV shows and music for 2018. Kendra leads with a list of her favorite television shows: American Vandal, On My Block, Sisters (from Australia), The 100, Sharp Objects, and End of the F—ing World. Ken puts Bojack Horseman, Big Mouth and The Good Place on his list with New Girl, Cheers, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, as his 2018 comfort food. Sliding right into music, Ken takes the lead cause he listens to music. Mitski leads his list (she follows Ken on Twitter) with REM, Sidney Gish, Jeff Tweedy, Ted's Diner, Kurt vile. And for original scores he really loved Nicholas Britell for If Beale Street Could Talk and Jonny Greenwood for The Phantom Thread. Kendra adds that the Greatest Showman is kind of 2018 and that it was truly the greatest show. Now to the very competitive and organized miscellaneous category. Ken saw the musical The Band’s Visit before it won any Tony’s, so good for him. Kendra is just happy with Phoebe Waller Bridges and her 2018. Ken and Kendra both endorse Yoga with Adriene for a youtube channel that makes you feel better about yourself. Kendra loves the game Rummikub so much that she has the app now and is thoroughly happy. And final favorite of 2018 is the library because you can get comic books there and its just great. If you like reading more than listening we are now doing articles on Medium. 2018 in review: Ken talks movies, Kendra talks podcasts
It’s almost the end of 2018 which means we are doing part one of our two-part year in review. We start with a softball, which Chris had the best 2018. Ken brings us through his top 5 list of best movies: The Favourite, If Beale Street Could Talk, Mission Impossible 6 Fallout, Ballad Of Buster Scruggs, and Bad Times at the El Royale. Ken’s honorable mentions are all Kendra’s favorites: The Spy Who Dumped Me, To All The Boys I Loved Before, A Star is Born, The Greatest Showman, and Sorry To Bother You. Then in the podcast category. Kendra talks about a few of her favorites like the advice column podcast Dear Prudence from Slate with Daniel Mallory Ortberg. She is convinced it is a quiz for your brain about interacting with conflict. Keep It from Crooked Media with Ira Madison III is one of our top favorite podcasts for a delicious midweek snack. For you news heads, Kendra recommends The Daily 202 by the Washington Post which is a quick daily podcast that tells you what things mean and what the ramifications will be without going to deep. Other favorites are Pop Culture Happy Hour and The Good Place: The Podcast. If you like reading more than listening we are now doing articles on Medium. Vanessa Hudgens and Ken are doppelgängers and now Ken is Princess of Genovia
This week we discuss the latest Original Netflix Christmas movies that are pretty much Hallmark movies. The first we dive into is the Princess Switch. This movie stars Vanessa Hudgens and her doppelganger Vanessa Hudgens and their respective romantic interests Sam Palladio and Nick Sagar. Vanessa Hudgens 1 plays a baker who goes to fake Genovia for a world renown baking competition and runs into Vanessa Hudgens 2. There are lots of accents and a lot of confusing love plot lines. The second movie which we call a film is The Holiday Calendar. Kat Graham plays a photographer living in her hometown who is gifted by her grandfather a magic antique advent calendar. Over the course of the movie, she has two men vying for her love Ethan Peck (boo!) and Quincy Brown (yay!) We all have to wait till the haunted holiday calendar lets Kat Graham get with Quincy Brown. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Kat Graham was in The Holiday Calendar and also in the main cast of The Vampire Diaries (2009) with Matthew Davis. Matthew Davis was also in some episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2013 with Peri Gilpin. If you like reading more than listening we are now doing articles on Medium. The latest article gets to the bottom of all the missing days in The Holiday Calendar. If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! A Scruggs is a movie that can’t get no love from Kendra
Ken would recommend you watch The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and love it. Kendra would recommend you not bother and just listen to this podcast instead. We tell the general plot of the short stories and Kendra really gives away a major spoiler at minute 16:20. We also discuss the gender dynamics regarding critiques of the Coen brothers and ask why they aren’t called the Coen siblings. Unrelated to the Coen brothers we talk about Chris Pine’s visible pine in the Outlaw King. . And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Tom Waits was in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs which we really took our time talking about. He was also in Candy Mountain (1987) [which Kendra incorrectly said was related to the song Big Rock Candy Mountain] with Laurie Metcalf. Laurie Metcalf was in a Frasier episode in 2004 with Peri Gilpin called Caught in the Act. A couple of fun facts about the show. John Grisham had The Firm grip on Ken’s adolescence
Ken and Kendra give their final synopsis on the holiday known as Thanksgiving and rate their favorite holidays (including the pagan ones). Ken watched the Firm which shockingly features Tom Cruise along with Gene Hackman, Holly Hunter, Ed Harris, and David Strathairn. Kendra gives The Lonely Guy with Steve Martin a quick plug. Kendra reveals the folly of Ken saying golly instead of jolly. She also really tears into a movie on Amazon Prime called One Small Hitch. Ken watched Juliet, Naked and extols the virtues of Ethan Hawke playing a likable screw up and Rose Byrne just doing anything because the woman is an exemplar of talent and spirit. Kendra likes Chris O'Dowd despite Ken not wanting to mention him. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Rose Byrne was in Juliet, Naked which we talked about. She was also in Neighbors (2014) and Neighbors 2 (2016) with the wonderful Hannibal Buress. Hannibal Buress was in Flock of Dudes (2015) with Peri Gilpin which we have now vowed to watch. The Spy Who Dumped Kendra
Ken and Kendra discuss our favorite Thanksgiving movies: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987) with Steve Martin and John Candy and Home for the Holidays (1995) with Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr. and Dylan McDermott. Most of the episode we talk everyone through our new favorite movie, The Spy Who Dumped Me. Ken likes it because he loves a fish out of water spy movie that reminds him of the 80s. Kendra likes it because it was practically designed around her likes and dislikes (the power of female writers.) To avoid spoilers skip minutes 20 - 28. The rest is NEARLY spoiler free. Happy Thanksgiving to all our listeners we are most thankful for all of youuuuuu. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... James Fleet was a villain in The Spy Who Dumped Me. He was also a mainstay in The Vicar of Dibley which aired from 1994-2007 and one episode featured Johnny Depp in 1999. Peri Gilpin was in an episode of 21 Jump Street that starred Johnny Depp in 1988 called The Currency We Trade In. We are going to try and find it and watch it. A couple fun facts about the show. We genuinely ask Dylan O'Brien to teach us how to Maze Run
This episode we are all over the movie map. Ken walks us through Wildlife (written by Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan) and Bohemian Rhapsody (starring Rami Malek). We then masterfully move on to Maze Runner: Death Cure starring Kendra's favorite Dylan O'Brien. Which walks us right into the hairy arms of Teen Wolf a show that really gets good by season 3. Note: Next week we will be talking The Spy Who Dumped Me! You can watch it with us if you like! And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Gillian Anderson was a call-in for a 1999 episode of Frasier with Peri Gilpin. And then Gillian Anderson was in the movie Shadow Dancer with Aidan Gillan in 2012. A couple fun facts about the show. Robb Stark or Kevin Costner: Who do you want to guard your body?
Kendra talks the Netflix show The Bodyguard with Richard Madden. Ken thinks the strong jawline would be a safety hazard for every body he would be guarding. He is correct. If you were wondering when and how Ken first watched The Bodyguard (1992) this would be a key episode to listen to. If you wanted to know if his car had a CD player or a tape deck this would also be a key episode to listen to. Also if you want to hear Ken's very positive feelings about BoJack Horseman. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Woody Harrelson was in an episode of Frasier with Peri Gilpin. And then Woody Harrelson was in a TV special for Earth Day in 1990 with Kevin Costner. Ken does a quick review of the latest Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis. Kendra talks about her love/ hate relationship with Halloween, the holiday.
