All this while being an Army regular – a profession he enjoyed because his love for the jungle and learning from others. He is leaving the force soon, will continue to trade, and has dreams to set up a orphanage in future, in his words “To give kids dignity and love; the same priceless intangibles his parents gave me. They are free to make their own choices after, but everyone deserves a proper start like I did”

Ep 50: William Lee on Losing A Son To Cancer, Finding Strength & Raphael's Resilience & Love

In November 2020, a news story went viral - many Singaporeans were moved by a young boy’s courage, resilience and love in the face of suffering. The boy’s name is Raphael Lee. Despite battling cancer, he soldiered on and took his PSLE. Before he could receive his results, he passed on after complications from a surgery. His parents, William and Winnie Lee, took his results on his behalf, and gave interviews on Raphael’s journey. On this episode, I speak with William in an intimate setting, on Raphael’s life and lessons learnt, and finding strength to care for Raphael while he was growing up, and now, to move on strongly. I was nervous before the podcast, given it’s sensitive nature. Yet, William was so open hearted and assuring, letting me know he is ok with the questions. He wishes to celebrate Raphael’s life, allow others to learn from him, and move on strongly. Needless to say, I got deep insights from listening, and was moved to tears by some stories William shared. I hope this episode represents him and Raphael’s message well.
