In episode 13 of KGUP PRESENTS, Mikey Jayy catches up with the very talented Kat Leon. You might recognize her from Holy Wars, or Pep Squad featured in the Netflix original show Teenage Bounty Hunters, or from her solo project. Kat Leon is unlike any artist we've ever come across. Her music is not only amazing, but she is a true survivor. Her personal story is what really drew our attention. In 2015, Kat lost both her parents. Even though Kat continued to live on, she was forever changed. For the world of music, Kat was given a new life. Out of this tragedy, Kat began to create incredible music that represents edginess, beauty, pain, and fun and each project she is involved with gives us a different perspective. For Episode 11 of KGUP PRESENTS, Mikey Jayy sits down with Alternative Pop/Rock band KidEyes. After posting our #newmusicfriday on our Instagram page, KidEyes gave it a "like", so we investigated and we discovered Greg Cahn (former lead singer of Mind the Gap) is the current lead singer of the new band. Upon learning this information, we immediately invited KidEyes on KGUP PRESENTS to talk about how Greg and Ben Epand (formerly from the band Queen Caveat) met and formed the new project, KidEyes. KidEyes is known for their hit songs "Malibu" and "Ready to Go," a song that was recently named No. 1 on Locals Only on KROQ.  About KidEyes For Alternative Pop/Rock and LA transplant duo KidEyes, this fabled tale of California dreamin’ has been the blueprint for their whole existence. “I’ve always looked at my failures as my successes,” says vocalist, Greg Cahn. “It’s just my weird form of luck.” After another band breakup, KidEyes’ other half, Producer and guitarist Ben Epand was done being another vulnerable musician and decided to start producing his own tracks. “Once I started diving feet first into recording and taking control of my constant need to create, I realized I should’ve done this long ago. But such is life.” Now the problem wasn’t producing the tracks or finding the inspiration or themes for his recent hardship or “bad luck” per say, but finding the right voice to add the inflections to the new burst of creativity that was starting to boil over. Similarly, another band breakup had just occurred on the other side of town and now two LA wanderers by way of Ohio and Connecticut, were about to meet, they just didn’t know it yet. Mikey Jayy of KGUP FM Emerge Radio hangs out Jenna Lotti. to talk about her latest music, her battle with depression, and her triumphant success over this past year. Originally from Boston, Jenna now resides in Los Angeles to pursue her career as a pop/soul singer-songwriter. Jenna landed a spot on season 2 of NBC’s hit show, Songland, where she pitched her original song to Julia Michaels. Mikey Jayy of KGUP PRESENTS sits down with Veronica Torres of VTorres to talk about her 15 year career in the Music Industry. They discuss #saveourstages, Covid-19, and her current and latest projects as a musician, which was how KGUP discovered VTorres. In a not so distant past, before Covid-19, KGUP discovered VTorres when she performed for a show at Harvard & Stone on March 1st to promote her new single "Golden Hour" put together by our friends of Softer Sex Productions. Veronica is not just a talented songwriter and music artist, she's a yoga instructor, a social justice warrior, and a true humanitarian, and so much more.  About V Torres Taking residency in the beaches of southern California, indie-rock singer-songwriter V Torres has infused fresh energy and melodies into her latest project. Previously fronting rock bands gave Torres the grit and experience to dive back into songwriting and performing under her own name. Like any singer-songwriter, V Torres’ music has matured while continuing to effectively convey her experiences and emotions. Torres writes and sings songs of empowerment which blend distinct guitar tones with soulfully truthful vocals and lyrics reminiscent of Mazzy Star, Metric and early Sheryl Crow. During Episode 8, Mikey Jayy of KGUP PRESENTS travels to Australia to talk with Pop Artist, Deena Lynch of Jaguar Jonze.  Jaguar Jonze is one of the most talented artists on the rise and recognized for her songs, "Rising Sun", "Rabbit Hole", and "You Got Left Behind". Even though she only appeared in the music scene a little over a year ago, Deena has become one of the most recognizable new artists for her appearance on the cover of Style Magazine. She also had one of the most memorable live performances at this year's Eurovision — Australia Decides 2020 competition, and for her award winning song, "Beijing Baby". More about Jaguar Jonze Much of Deena’s success stems from her instincts. At the age of 19, she fell into music after a close friend passed away. While walking home one day, she passed a garage sale, where she bought her first guitar on a whim. Without a single lesson, she was writing songs to help manage her grief. “He was always in my ear about living life passionately—he could see that I was falling into this societal structure of doing what everyone expects you to,” she says. “He left behind so much; amazing artwork, poetry and film. Mikey Jayy of KGUP PRESENTS meets with Sara Kendall of Llynks to talk about the metamorphosis of her journey and her new album entitled "Become the Root". Originally from Massachusetts, Sara studied at Berklee School of Music, worked as a model in New York City, then began making music.  Now residing in Austin, TX, Sara discusses her new album, the name change, and the direction of her music under her new name.  More about Llynks Llynks is a nomadic artist whose haunting and introspective lyrics explore themes of empowerment and self preservation. Although taking inspiration from both fantastical and sci-fi worlds, Llynks’ lyrics are reflective of her life experience and delivered with a powerful voice that manisfests as a portal to her soul. Her debut album, “Become the Root” will be released early 2020 and tackles the concept of taking ownership of one's own perception in an emboldened tone backed by ethereal and cinematic production. Chelsea Perkins joins Mikey Jayy on KGUP PRESENTS to talk about her new music and her new sound since joining the team at 83 Sound and discuss how Covid-19 has affected her family and personal life. Although WOLVES were born in 2016, neither are puppies to the trials and tribulations of life. Its’s very hard to miss the cold Chicago streets in Marc’s voice, echoed by Sean’s soul melting guitar riffs, heard on their latest EP “Say The Word” . London’s pop publication 1883 Magazine observed the EP’s, “…infectious melodies will quite literally leave you howling with joy”. “We wondered what it would be like if we took all these different influences we loved—artists like Janelle Monae, Post Malone, Coldplay—and rolled them all into one band today,” Marc muses. Their eclectic influences proved to be inspirational, as heard on their debut single “Animal” and most currently “Say The Word”. Having already earned top spots on the Billboard charts and heavy rotation on Sirius XM Hits 1, the duo hopes to inspire audiences across the globe and increase their evolution as artists and creators. In this episode Mikey Jayy of KGUP PRESENTS, we met up with Director, Producer, and Actress Amy Campione to talk about her latest project called, "Snares of the Devil" and talk about the Television and Film Industry during the time of Covid-19.  "Snares of the Devil" caught our attention as she was the recipient of the Filmaka "Trapped" Web Series competition and was subsequently funded into a 10 episode short form series. The series is out now on Filmaka and can also be watched on YouTube!  About Amy Campione In 2017 Amy’s first feature film, “American Girl” which she not only produced and directed, was released on Amazon Prime, Xbox, iTunes and Google Play. “American Girl” was an Official Selection for the LA Femme International Film Festival, holding its World Premiere at Regal Cinemas at LA LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. The film took home the award for “Best Feature Producer.” The film also screened around the country including at the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMMFest). Amy's body of work over the last couple of years has lead her to being named one of Del Weston's “Top 100 Indie Filmmakers of 2015”. She was then selected for and participated in the 2016/2017 Women in Film Mentorship Program which aims at nurturing emerging talent in the entertainment industry. In 2018, Amy was also selected for and participated in Ryan Murphy’s HALF Foundation Directing Mentorship Program. Amy is currently based in Los Angeles. KGUP PRESENTS discovered SANTINO when recording Artist and long time friend Chelsea Perkins ("Right Now" and AIMA Best Pop Song winner) recommended we check out a Hip Hop artist that goes by the name "SANTINO" of 83 Sound. Santino worked on the Production for Chelsea's song "Right Now"  and we were pleasantly surprised to hear he released the songs, "Notorious" and "Rings" now playing on KGUP FM Emerge Radio.  About SANTINO Santino Corleon is a rapper, songwriter and producer with a distinct voice from Cincinnati, Ohio. He released his first project ‘The Hangover’ and has traveled all over the country touring and opening for Method Man, Redman, J. Cole, Mac Miller, Big Sean, Machine Gun Kelly, Gucci Mane. In 2018 Santino toured his latest project ‘Therapy’  along side hip hop Artist Talib Kweli as well as Skyzoo. Now working on a new project with Cook Classics and Outasight, Santino is ready for the primetime.  Inspired by his doubters,  Santino has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove.  He skillfully weaves his urgent vocals over absolutely monstrous beats alongside arena sized hooks.  This is the music to take the world over to.  Santino is ready to do just that.

Defoe was born in Southern California and grew up on the golden oldies that played on her father's radio, classical music, and motion picture soundtracks. Patsy Cline, Connie Frances, The Beach Boys, the Beatles, and the Motown sound - along with composers such as Ennio Morricone informed her developing musical tastes. With the release of the cinematic new video for "Something's Happening", she is bringing those influences and more to bear as she takes her career to the next level. In July of 2019 Defoe released an album called “Too Soon to Cry”, which is an amalgamation of all her life stories, espoused from the perspective of a woman who has made her way and succeeded in the male-dominated field of studio engineering and recording. Being a woman in an area of music mostly dominated by men and balancing that with motherhood has led her to where she is today: bold, strong and empowered. KGUP PRESENTS caught up LA-based band, Broken Baby to talk about their upcoming EP, out later this year.  Broken Baby is an uncompromising rock band with post-punk edge and melodic appetites. Formed out of the ashes of failed relationships, both romantic and musical, Amy Bollinger and Alex Dezen wrote and recorded all the songs from their debut EP in the span of 2 weeks, honing their singular, collaborative work without pretension or extravagance. In this episode, KGUP PRESENTS features two amazing local emerging artists including Pop artist and Singer Songwriter, Lee Brown and EDM artist Moderns. In the first part, we introduce Lee Brown. Originally from across the pond in England, this singer songwriter came to the US to become a dancer choreographer. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, Lee attended Liverpool Institute of Performance Arts to pursue the art of ballet, contemporary dance, jazz and even tap, but this wasn't all. Brown also studied live theater and acting. Not long after moving to Los Angles, Lee join famous dance troop/boy band Phase V. Lee eventually left the group and pursued a solo act now known only by his name Lee Brown. His new singles include "Can I Get Your Number" and "Not Gonna Buy Your Love". Moderns consists of female fronted Vocalist and Songwriter, Rosie Okumura and Producer and Engineer, Christopher Fudurich. KGUP discovered Moderns at a popular local venue in Silverlake, CA called The Satellite. Some of the songs that really caught our attention were, "Tier", "Jarre", and "Terrestrial". Song after song, they just keep making amazing music. Since their inception, they haven't released a bad song.
