Hygge? Living the Peaceful Revolution
What does living peaceably mean? For one, it means rejecting strife, lust, greed, and waste, celebrating beauty, community, and brotherly love instead. In this episode, Rebekah explores what it means to live a "beautiful" (καλός) life in a world full of ugliness, a peaceful life in a world full of competition and dissatisfaction. Inspired by an audio book on the concept of "Hygge", Rebekah explores the unique dimension of Kingdom life that goes beyond comfort, pacification, and conflict avoidance, to revolutionary peace-living that shines a light on the evil and abuse in the world. The world tells you that you are not good enough, and you do not have enough. But the Lord is our Shepherd. In His arms, we do not want. Elements of a Peace Witness 1) Wholesomeness, wholeness, and health 2) Simplicity, contentment, and satisfaction 3) Care and gentleness 4) Intentionality (slowing down) 5) Comfort 6) Joy and celebration 7) Peace and safety - contending with violence, exploitation, harm, and abuse 8) Health 9) Connection, community, family 10) Nourishment 11) Authenticity 12) Celebrating and stewarding creation as a reflection of God's glory 13) Rest (Sabbath) 14) Considering and consecrating all of life as sacred 15) Homes as a refuge and haven (Essay) She has done a beautiful thing: Kingdom Womanhood as Declaration: https://kingdomoutpost.org/she-has-done-a-beautiful-thing-the-declaration-of-kingdom-womanhood/ (Essay) Kingdom Womanhood: https://kingdomoutpost.org/kingdom-womanhood-making-home-and-haven-part-1/ (Essay) Kingdom Womanhood: Nourishing Body and Soul in a Wearying World https://kingdomoutpost.org/kingdom-womanhood-nourishing-body-and-soul-in-a-wearying-world/ (E-book) Living More with Less by Doris Longacre Janzen https://archive.org/details/livingmorewithle00long/page/40/mode/2up?view=theater (Audiobook) Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3YVVViFPQo Follow us on Youtube: https://youtu.be/ZkV1qrq571A Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1cfllkJNjXvwusjWASM9uX
The Crisis of Christian Masculinity (feat. Abram and Ray)
Masculinity today is a subject of anxiety and confusion. Men are struggling with depression, loneliness, sexual addiction, and more. What identity and vision does the gospel of peace have to offer men? What can churches do to build belonging and community? Today, Abram and Ray join us on the podcast to talk about masculinity. We discuss two books, "Non-toxic Masculinity" by Zachary Wagner and "The Men We Need" by Brent Hansen. When we abuse the abused: Anabaptists and Orthopraxy
Content Warning: Sexual abuse and sexual violence According to the Anabaptist focus on lived-out orthopraxy rather than creedal orthodoxy, what we *say** we believe, no matter how good it sounds, only stands up to its fruit. This is why, no matter how brilliant John Howard Yoder may have been, he cannot have articulated a viable political theology of nonviolence as a sexual abuser. This is a question that is vital to cover as a podcast essentially about Anabaptist/Kingdom political theology.
Today, we look at the difficult question of what happens when Anabaptist churches and communities abuse victims of abuse. Are we reading the Sermon on the Mount wrong? What does the story of Dirk Willems actually teach us, and does our understanding of suffering err towards harm? Do we fetishize martyrdom in order to validate the failure to challenge Empire and evil in an authentically Kingdom way? Peace as a GOSPEL Question (Part 2)
Is peace simply a question of political theology? In this two-part episode, Rebekah looks at peace as a GOSPEL question. We often think of salvation, forgiveness, justification, and holiness in relation to God, but do we think about these concepts in relation to one another? How often do we think about salvation in relation to peace vs. violence, lust vs. love? This episode is a dive into Scripture and what Jesus and the apostles taught us about salvation, peace, and the Kingdom of God. Gospel of Peace is a “podcast for Kingdom women (and everyone else) about political theology and everyday faith. Hosted by Rebekah, editor of the Kingdom Outpost (kingdomoutpost.org) and PhD student discovering how the gospel of peace transforms us in a world full of violence, fundamentalism, abuse, nationalism, and more.". Peace as a GOSPEL Question (Part 1)
Is peace simply a question of political theology? In this two-part episode, Rebekah looks at peace as a GOSPEL question.
In Part 1, Rebekah reads from Harold Bender's "Anabaptist Vision" (https://www.goshen.edu/mhl/Refocusing/d-av.htm) and Han Schnell's "The Two Kingdoms" (https://christianhistoryinstitute.org/magazine/article/anabaptist-archives-two-kingdoms),
showing how the Anabaptists viewed discipleship and separation from the
world's kingdoms of violence as central to salvation.
Part 2 analyzes what the Scriptures teach us about the gospel in
relation to violence and lust. Why is peace so central to a complete
view of salvation? How does the gospel transform our relationships from
the way of lust to the way of love?

Christian Anarchism: Off-Script with Dr. Alexandre Christoyannopoulos
Dr. Alexandre Christoyannopoulos is a senior lecturer in politics and international relations at Loughborough University. In 2013, he published "Christian Anarchism: A political commentary on the gospel", based on a doctoral study synthesizing author like Leo Tolstoy, Jacques Ellul, Dave Andrews and Vernard Eller, all of whom asked a simple question: if we were to base a theory or theology of politics on the life and teachings of Jesus, what would be the result? Today, Derek Kreider (Fourth Way Podcast) and I talked to Dr. Christoyannopoulos about his work and the current field of Christian anarchism today. We discuss Tolstoy, patriotism, vaccines, empire and more.
