++ TRULY HEARTFELT +++ Have you ever heard something and one of your reactions were, "that was truly heartfelt?" For me, this happens most times at a funeral. KGS177 | 3 Proven Skills Of Great Leaders During Times Of Change Which One Are You Lacking by Kingsley Grant
++ LEADING TO LAND +++ Some leaders tend to focus on the process during times of crisis but fail to focus on the outcome. "Focusing on process" kind of leadership is one that only sees what's going on around them. It's very short-sighted, to say the least. It becomes an either/or for them. They are unable to see a both/and scenario. The leaders who are able to "focus on the outcome" are those who are looking for a "better tomorrow." They take into consideration both the "landing" and what happens thereafter. It's not that they ignore or deny what's happening around them, but they are able to do both. They look at "tomorrow" to inform them how they should proceed today. Not all leaders are skilled and that is why not all leaders are great leaders. The good news is that leaders who are determined to become great leaders can learn to do this. It is a learned behavior or skill. In this episode, you will discover the 3 Proven Skills of Great Leaders that they use to lead their people during times of change or crisis and how they can be both process and outcome-focused. KGS176 | Why Giving Frequent Feedback And Credit To Your Team Reduces Toxicity Within The Work Environment with Patrick Van Gorder and Kingsley Grant
++ FREELY GIVE +++ But wait there is more ... Not everything that is free ends up being helpful. Sometimes it can be downright hurtful. Life is filled with feedback.  Relationships are filled with feedback. A conversation is filled with feedback. However, have you been hurt by the "feedback" you received from someone? Some will call it constructive criticism. What is constructive about it when you are left in shreds? This happens a lot in the workplace.  Feedback, when intended to help, is delivered carefully and with heart.  We all need feedback but not all feedback is helpful. Would you agree? In this episode, our guest - Patrick Van Gorder - helps us understand the power of effective feedback and how it has worked in their business, the fastest growing business in their region. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Who is PATRICK VAN GORDER? KGS175 | New Leader Q&A: How Do I Succeed As A New Leader Even When I Do Not Have Adequate Preparation by Kingsley Grant
++ SET UP FOR FAILURE +++ During the era of Usain Bolt, if someone had offered me a $1,000,000 to race against him in the Olympics, they would not really care about my self-esteem. I would say they're intent was to humiliate and embarrass me in front of the world. Wouldn't you agree? Now, don't agree so quickly. You could have taken your time to agree. [smile] It would be safe to say that's a set up for failure. There was no way I was going to beat him UNLESS he faked it and allowed me to do it to save face and to get a kick-back. That's what happens when people are given a leadership role without proper preparation. The sad part it happens more often than not even when it is not intentional. In this episode, you will hear one leader asking how to still succeed as a leader even when they feel like they haven't gotten adequate preparation. Listen to the answers given and see if you would agree. KGS174 | Manager Fired For Believing The Customer Is Always Right And Why I Agree With The Decision by Kingsley Grant
++ EMANCIPATE YOURSELF +++ Have you ever had one of those moments where it seems like out of nowhere, a song comes to your mind that you've not heard or thought of in quite some time? Recently, I've been having some of those moments.  Today, was one of those times. As I prepared this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show, the song by the late Bob Marley - Redemption Song - came to my mind. And why it did ... You'll see why when you listen to this episode and you'll also see the connection. In this episode, I shared about an Olive Garden manager who was fired because of a "mental slavery belief" that ought to be revisited. I used "mental slavery" because that's the term Bob Marley used. You'll have to listen to get the feel of it all. I cannot adequately put it in words here. KGS173 | Why Leaders Must Address The Elephant in The Room Called Toxicity Before Adding More Leadership Training with Kingsley Grant
++ ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM +++ According to Wikipedia, the term "elephant in the room" is a metaphor used to describe "an important or enormous topic, problem, or risk that is obvious or that everyone knows about but no one mentions or wants to discuss because it makes at least some of them uncomfortable or is personally, socially, or politically embarrassing, controversial, inflammatory, or dangerous" This definition captures the topic of toxicity in the workplace. It's one of those topics that is going unchecked or overlooked for one reason or another. In this episode, I share 3 reasons why this conversation is not taking place and what needs to be done. The "business as usual" approach to leadership training where the focus is more on organizational, time management, and leadership skills than toxicity, is no longer sufficient. Making detoxing a toxic work environment has to be a mandatory part of any leadership training. It has to be the priority or else it's an exercise in futility; money down the drain. +++ CRUSH IT, NOT THE BOOK +++ One of the most inspiring books that I've read a few years ago, was CRUSH IT by Gary Vaynerchuk. If you haven't read it even though it's an oldie, it's still a goodie. However, this post is not about that. It's about crushing something else. That monster called "I'm not good enough!"  Has that monster ever reared its ugly head in your life? Do you recall what it did to you at those times? I've had it, and I can tell you, it almost leaves me feeling inadequate and like an imposter.  But it doesn't have to be that way. KGS171 | Always See The Bigger PIcture Should Be The Message Of Leaders Who Want To Turn Around Toxic Work Environments With Kim Bohr and Kingsley Grant
++ THE BIG PICTURE +++ Have you ever heard someone say, "look at the bigger picture?" Have you said it in a conversation? When you are able to look at the bigger picture, what generally tends to happen? For me, it generally changes the outcome. It forces me to zoom out from where I am to see what I would have missed had I not done that. This is true of those who find themselves in toxic work environments and most importantly for leaders who are in the best position to turn around those situations. In this episode, you are going to hear a conversation with our guest - Kim Bohr - who will help us understand how best to do so. KGS170 | Personal Leadership Development Is Mandatory In Managing Toxic Work Environments Effectively With Catherine Sherlock and Kingsley Grant (PAIpm9lqEAg1BVi3pWLE).mp3
++ MANDATORY GROWTH +++ "Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning." ~ Benjamin Franklin Notice the correlation? To get improvement, achievement, and success, growth is mandatory. Is that your understanding as well? I hope so. There has been no area of my life where I've experienced any measure of success without some form of growth.  Here's another quote that supports my discovery.  "Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not. When I see a person beginning to separate themselves from the pack, it's almost always due to personal growth." ~ John C. Maxwell [PAUSE] Are you growing? If you are a leader and are not focused on leadership development, it's very unlikely that you'll be able to effective at leadership. In this episode, our guest Catherine Sherlock, highlights the need for growth. KGS169 | What Does Tough Love Charisma And Authoriy Have To Do With Leadership Or With You In Detoxing Toxic Work Environments By Leadership Expert Timothy Lupfer and Kingsley Grant
++ TOUGH LOVE, YIKES +++ The very thought of these two words tough + love being together almost seems like an oddity. Should they co-exist? Some people have different views on it and I have my own thoughts, which I'll reserve for you to be the judge after listening to this episode. My guest - Timothy Lupfer - believes in tough love from a leadership perspective and how that helps effective leadership. You'll be surprised to hear what he had to say. He has a contrarian viewpoint especially when it comes to the word charisma. How does that fit into this tough-love discussion? That is something you'll also discover on this show. ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Who is TIMOTHY LUPFER? Timothy Lupfer’s entire life has been a study of leadership.  After graduating first in his class at West Point and studying as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, he went on to successfully command a reinforced tank battalion in combat in Desert Storm. KGS167 | Behind The Scenes: Get Real Stories From Real People Experiencing Toxic Work Environments With Kingsley Grant
++ KEEPING IT REAL +++ One of the reasons why shows that take you behind the scenes such as reality shows do well, it's because we are able to connect for the most part with what we see and hear. Another reason is our curious nature. We are voyeuristic (nosy) in nature.  This is not a bad thing. I think it helps us with a better understanding of what we see and hear. And yes, I know that many of these shows are scripted for the audience. But the point is, we still like to know. In this episode, the stage is being set for future episodes that will have similar effects. KGS166 | Learn From Your Mistakes: World's Leading Expert In Licensing Consumer Products Explains with Stephen Key and Kingsley Grant
++ MS. TAKES +++ Have you ever made a mistake?  If you haven't, welcome to the "liars club." (Just kidding) Albert Einstein said, "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." This might be another reason you would not raise your hands to have made a mistake. But, to the rest of us who have made mistakes, how do you frame it when it happens? Do you see it as "the end of the world?" Maybe not that extreme, but do you call yourself names or even "kick" yourself? What if I told you that some people do not label mistakes as mistakes but as something else, would you want to know what they do instead? Okay.  In this episode, our guest - Stephen Key, will break that down for us and give us a better way of seeing and thinking about mistakes. +++++++++++++++++ Who is STEPHEN KEY? Stephen Key is the world’s leading expert in licensing consumer product ideas and a 2018-2019 American Association for the Advancement of Science-Lemelson Invention Ambassador. KGS165 | Building Ideas Together Is One Critical Way To Reduce Toxicity Within A Toxic Work Environment
++ WHOSE IDEA IS IT +++ There's a show that I used to watch entitled: Whose line is it anyway?" I'm not sure if you ever watched or heard of it.  But the very title make it sounds that someone is responsible for or owns a certain line in the show. It would become apparent when each actor is giving a role that they had to use improv and communicate their understanding of what that line meant to them. However, they did this with the help of others. Somehow they were able to pull off a skit that for the most part, seemed as if they had some rehearsal done, when in fact they never did. They built and pieced the ideas together and were all credited for the success of the show.  Imagine, if leaders could use a similar approach to take an idea and build it out together with their team.  In this episode, our guest - Jeff Shechter, helped us understand how building ideas together can work towards reducing toxicity within a toxic work environment. Who is JEFF SHECHTER? +++++++++++++++++++++++ Jeff started his first business right out of college, and over the years, have developed sales and marketing strategies that have worked well across many industries. He’s been involved in numerous business ventures. Jeff’s love for real estate investing began in the 1980s when he began flipping homes that he lived in. Since those early days of torn up kitchens and bathrooms, he’s bought and sold many properties, and he’s an active investor to this day. He’s been blessed to have coached hundreds of business owners, and thrive on helping people realize their full potential…not just in business, but in all aspects of life! +++++++++++++++++++++++ Please share this episode with one other person and leave a comment on the platform through which you listen to this show and/or on social media. [SPECIAL] KGS163 | 5 Reasons Nancy Pelosi Ripping State Of The Union Speech Was A Major Leadership Mistake with Kingsley Grant
++ TEACHABLE MOMENTS +++ Life hands us a lot of teachable moments.  We miss many of them because of our knee-jerk reactions. Most times we miss them because we overreact or under-react. We don't take time to evaluate what is going on to see what lessons could we learn. Life is learning and every day, we can learn something if we simply look for them. I'm the first to admit that it is not easy. I've fallen prey to moments that I've missed because of my over or under-reaction. How about you? We had one of those moments at the State of the Union address by the president of the United States - Donald Trump. At the end of his speech, the leader of the House - Nancy Pelosi, tore up the speech that was for the house records. There have been many on both sides of the aisle who have displayed strong feelings for or against what she did. In this episode, you will hear 5 reasons why what Speaker Pelosi did, was a "yuge" or a major leadership mistake. This mistake will be overlooked if your reaction is driven primarily by emotions and/or party loyalty. Let's put the emotions and party loyalty aside for a minute and see if what is shared in this episode is fair and reasonable. KGS162 | Unleash Your Sales Team To Do Great Work Using Emotional Intelligence with Kingsley Grant and Donald Kelly
++ SALES MAKEOVER +++ In the past, I've often said: "I'm not a salesperson." And the reason I so quickly utter those words is simply not to be likened to that "sleazy" salesperson. You know that kind, don't you? Me too! My association with sales is that of being pressured. I'm not comfortable with that. Thankfully I've had a makeover of my thoughts on what sales and selling is all about. Every day, each one of us is selling something: an idea, our truth, our story, our excuse, etc. We want to convince someone of something. That is sales in a nutshell. In this episode, Donald Kelly interviewed Kingsley Grant on his show: The Sales Evangelist where they discussed sales from a different perspective. Donald framed that as How To Create An Environment Where People Thrive At Work.

KGS160 | 3 Simple Steps Leaders Can Take To Detoxify Their Toxic Work Environment NOW by Kingsley Grant
++ DETOX IT +++ My daughter who is very fashion conscious and has the eye for matching colors and styles in a way that most people cannot. She has at times taken on the role of telling me what not to wear or what to wear. I wonder out loud, how have I managed all these years (LOL). However, I must concede that she's better at it than I am. She sees what I don't. One day she volunteered to detoxify my closet getting rid of what no longer serves me. It was hard parting with clothes I had sentimental attachments to. But she knew I needed to. I'm glad she did. What a difference it made! I got rid of clothes I would not have gotten rid of and I must admit, my closet looked and "felt" better. This is what many people in the workplace are wanting to see happen. They want to get rid of what is not serving them or the overall good of the organization. They want a workplace-detox.   Their workplace - their closet - stresses them out. There is tension all around. It's becoming difficult to perform. In this episode, you will be introduced to 3 simple yet powerful steps to detoxify a toxic work environment. KGS159 | Rapidly Turn Around Your Team With These 3 Ls Without Compromising Your Leadership Role with David Veech and Kingsley Grant
++ IN 3's +++ Have you ever wondered why most solutions to a problem come in groups of 3's? What I've heard is that the brain is better able to remember things when they are given in clusters of 3's. There is some science to that but I won't take time to go into it now. That's not the purpose of this show. Suffice it to say, when I hear things, not only in clusters of 3's but in pneumonic format, meaning each word or very short phrase begins with the same letter, I tend to remember more. What about you? Well, in this episode you'll hear our guest - David Veech - share the power of 3 L's that when used by leaders, they get remarkable results. There are also other nuggets shared, that you'll find very helpful. Guaranteed. You'll get a 100% refund if this is not so. Refund? What refund? Mhmm... [silence] ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Who is David Veech? Throughout the years, David Veech has worn many hats but currently, he serves as the founder of Leadersights, an organization centered around helping leaders of all types hone their leadership skills. Whether teaching at the University of Kentucky or Ohio State University, or in the US Military, David has always carefully studied leadership with an eye for finding practical strategies that his students and clients can easily apply. He is a published author of 2 books:  Leadersights: Creating great leaders who create great workplaces and The C4 Process: Four Vital Steps to Better Work. KGS158 | 3 Leadership Skills To Gain Respect From Your People As You Seek To Turn Around A Toxic Work Environment with Gregg Ward and Kingsley Grant
++ R.E.S.P.E.C.T +++ "I get no respect," says the late comedian and actor, Rodney Dangerfield. The desire for respect is something that most people want. I find this to be even more so with the male species. Some people and some animals will go to the extreme to get respect. The old adage is, "you have to earn my respect!" And there is some truth to that. But are there other parts to it?  How about with leaders and those they lead?  In this episode, you'll discover some surprising truths and discoveries that surround the issue of respect and how a leader can both gain respect from his or her team while seeking to turn around a toxic work environment. Our guest - Gregg Ward - will share some insightful research on this topic of respect. ++++++++++++++++++++ Who is GREGG WARD? KGS157 | Cure A Toxic Work Environment With These 5 Emotional Intelligence Leadership Skills by Kingsley Grant
++ FOUND A CURE +++ There are some illnesses that everyone that I know is praying that scientists would discover a cure and do so soon. For some people, soon cannot come fast enough. That was true for both my sister and mom who died of cancer. However, there is one illness that has an available cure, yet it continues to go unattended in some places. It is called a toxic work environment. So many people would do anything to work in a non-toxic work environment. One person's response to me talking about toxic environments stated: "... I have seen this and then you are stuck you either quit your job or go and find you a new job. All you ever want to do is be as good as you can be and learn to become a better person." Imagine. KGS155 | How To Turn Around A Toxic Work Environment Simply By Managing Your Stress And The Stress Of Those Around You by Kingsley Grant
++ SHRINK MY BRAIN +++ Research has shown that when we are exposed to continued stress, the volume of grey matter in areas of our brain responsible for self-control, decreases. You could say our brain shrinks. The more this happens, the more toxicity builds up in our lives, which eventually spills over within the work environment and onto the people we lead. When leaders are under a load of stress they are more prone to say or do things that can cause friction, misunderstandings, and hurt. This is a recipe for a toxic work environment. The good news is that stress can be managed and when managed can turn around a toxic workplace. The question is how. In this episode, you'll discover a few ways to lower stress, manage your emotions, and turn around a toxic work environment. KGS153 | 4 Behaviors All Good Leaders Have In Common Which One Are You Missing with Former Royal Marine Roderic Yapp and Kingsley Grant
++ LOOK AND SEE +++ There's a saying that I often quote to some of my clients as I help them with self-awareness, that goes like this: "Your actions speak so loud, they can't hear what you are saying." Have you ever heard that before? I find that sometimes some leaders wonder why their people aren't "listening" to them. They are perplexed by it. However, when you speak with some of the people they are leading or have the leader do a 360-assessment, it becomes apparent why. The feedback makes it clear that the leader's behavior doesn't match what he or she is saying. It's out of sync. How then do these leaders change the messaging of their people? In this episode, our guest - Former Royal Marine Roderic Yapp - discusses 4 behaviors that strong and good leaders have in common. He suggests that if a leader wants to be seen as a good leader, they will adopt these 4 behaviors. What are they? Take a listen to find out. +++++++++++++++++ Who is RODERIC YAPP? Roderic is an experienced speaker, facilitator, and coach who specializes in developing leaders by changing the way people think and behave. A former Royal Marines Officer, Yapp was fortunate enough to lead Marines on operations around the world. One of the many highlights of his career includes the recapture of the 55,000-ton MV Montecristo from pirate control in 2011, as part of a NATO counter-piracy task force off the Somali coast. In 2015, he founded Leadership Forces which focusses on developing leaders within organizations. KGS152 | Social Responsibility Enacted By CEOs And Other Leaders Without Consensus Could Be A Big Mistake And Seen As CEO Activism with Kristen Ruby and Kingsley Grant
++ YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR ME +++ Have you ever been in a situation where someone makes a statement and makes it seem like you are in agreement with them? They'll use the plural "we" rather than I. For example, they might say, "We all think" or "we believe" or "we don't agree with ..." and so on. When that happens, what do you do? Sometimes you kind of go along to not embarrass them. I've done that. And it also all depends on who is making that statement. Right? You won't correct them, especially in public if it is someone who has power over you.  When my dad was alive, I dare not say anything.  These situations can be awkward. But what do you do when your boss or owner of the company at which you work makes public statements on sensitive issues with which you disagree? Let's take this one step further. Should they be doing that? You may say, "Well, it's their company or they are the boss, so they can do whatever they want to do." And you are right, but is it a good move on their part? In this episode, our guest - Kristen Ruby - will take this topic on head-on and share with you some thoughts that you may agree with. I can tell you this, it helped me put in words some of my own thoughts on the matter. ++++++++++++++ Who is KRISTEN RUBY? Kris Ruby is the CEO of Ruby Media Group. KGS150 | How To Combine Servant Leadership and Emotional Intelligence To Get Better Results Within The Workplace with Edwin Quajida and Kingsley Grant
++ LEADER'S COMBINATION LOCK +++ Whoever invented the combination lock was a genius. They solved an issue of one less thing to do: carrying a key around. Imagine! Here's the problem. Don't lose the combination number. If you've ever done that you know what I'm talking about ... it's a nightmare. Unfortunately, these nightmares are happening within many workplaces this very minute. Some of these companies are operating as if they've lost the combination numbers to access best practices on how to:  treat their people motivate them engage them and  care for them. Is it any wonder they are having a hard time retaining their best people? Is it any wonder that workplace engagement is down? Many of these leaders don't know what to do. In this episode, our guest - Edwin Ouijida, shares how leaders can, not only recover the combination numbers but how to truly get better results from their people.  His message is that leaders should combine servant leadership and emotional intelligence skills, to get the results they are looking for. ++++++++++++++++++++ EDWIN OUIJIDA'S BIO: Edwin is a Transformational Coach, Speaker, and Leadership Expert, founder of the Fearless Coaching Group, a certified Emotional Intelligence coach, and certified human behavior consultant – DiSC. KGS149 | Embracing An Employee Turnover Mindset Is The Secret To Attracting and Retaining Your Best Employees with Zack Thomas and Kingsley Grant
++ ON IT'S HEAD +++ Have you ever heard the term "turn it on its head?" What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear that phrase? For me, it's a little boy being help upside down with his or her head to the ground and I think, "wow, they've been turned upside down." Some kids love this. They'll be laughing-their-heads-off thinking it is so funny until the blood flushes their face. It's unfortunate that we can no longer look at something like that and think it's all being done in jest. Strange things. Strange people. However, I like to see when an idea that we've held onto for so long, is completely revamped and replaced by better ideas. Would it be true for you as well? In this episode, you'll hear how one business owner and leader, our guest Zack Thomas, has taken the term "employee turnover" and turn it around from being something one fears, to something one plans towards. You'll have to listen to hear what it is I mean by saying that. +++++++++++++++++++ ZACK THOMAS' BIO: He is an entrepreneur, published author, coach, and speaker. KGS148 | 6 Traits Of A High Emotional Intelligent Leader: Which Ones Are You Lacking by Kingsley Grant
++ MUST HAVE IT +++ As a young person, I used to think there were some things in life I HAD TO HAVE or else. Sometimes I would envision extreme outcomes if I never had them or found a way to get them, whatever it was. Was that your experience as well? The older I got, the more I realized that: I lived and didn't die even without the "must-have"  Life went on My MUST-HAVE list kept changing But there were somethings that life required me to have, which I had to acquire such as: Patience A sense of humor A thick skin The ability to say no Integrity and more ... In this episode, you'll discover 6 Traits that are MUST-HAVE if you are going to become the leader that succeeds where others failed ... The Emotelligent Leader. KGS147 | Why Smart Leaders Get Better Results Using Enrollment As A Complementary Onboarding Process with Nicole Jansen and Kingsley Grant
++ ENROLLMENT IS A STRATEGY +++ How often have you seen a sign like this: Open For Enrollment? I tend to see it a lot during the Summertime when kids are out of school and businesses are competing to get a jump on kids' summer activities. Getting the kids in and as many as they can is the business' objectives. No kids, no business. Many of these businesses use a lot of incentives to get them to sign up early. This strategy is one that leaders need to adopt when it comes to getting their people to have an early buy-in to the vision and mission of the organization. What if leaders "enrolled" their people into the early stages of planning? What if they approached their leadership from a bottom-up rather than a top-down position? What if? In this episode, our guest Nicole Jansen dives into a concept called Enrollment that provides answers to these questions and more. ++++++++++++++++++ Who is Nicole Jansen? Nicole Jansen has helped thousands of people transform their lives and achieve extraordinary results in business.  Her unique brand of mentorship stems from her 30+ years in business, her expertise as a Business Breakthrough Coach, Strategic Intervention Coach, and Human Behavior Specialist, but most importantly, her own experience overcoming adversity.  She is the founder of Discover The Edge, host of the Leaders Of Transformation Podcast and co-author of the book, Power Up, Super Women. +++ GUT FEELING NOT ENOUGH +++ Have you ever said to yourself, "I should have gone with my gut feelings?" In this episode, our guest has some surprising research and examples of what happens when leaders make decisions based on their gut feelings and the disastrous outcome that followed. Is that true of you as well? I have participated in medical test trials of certain products, but before I said yes, I wanted to make sure the medicine has already been on the market and been tested prior. KGS143 | The 7 Most Important Soft Skills aka People Skills All Managers Must Have To Succeed In The 21st Century by Kingsley Grant
++ SKILLS NEEDED +++ So many people today are just one skill away from their best hope but don't even realize it. Some were just one skill away but didn't realize it and gave up too soon. I believe that life is made up of a number of skills and if we are able to get better at them, the better our lives would be. This is so true in the area of leadership.  How many managers/leaders have "bombed out" on what could have been their best opportunity to shape lives and leave a legacy, but because they lacked a few learnable skills, they fell by the wayside. KGS141 | Why Leaders Who Practice The Golden Rule Are Less Stressed And More Likely To Succeed with Michael Tanner and Kingsley Grant
++ GOLDEN RULE WORKS +++ I'm sure you, like me, have heard about the Golden Rule at some point in our lives. Do you remember what you were taught? What would happen if we followed the Golden Rule as it was intended? Can you imagine what the world would be like? What about the workplace? This is the goal of this episode. It is designed to give you a blueprint of how to create that kind of "world" whether in your workplace or in your home. KGS139 | 3 Phrases To Avoid Using That Could Undermine Your Leadership Credibility And Authority And What To Say Instead by Kingsley Grant
++ WATCH YOUR LIPS +++ I grew up hearing a chorus that goes like this: "Watch your lips, watch your lips what they say Watch your lips, watch your lips what they say For there is a Father above, looking down in tender love Watch your lips, watch your lips what they say." This song was to help us be mindful of what it is we say.  We were to speak kindly to others. What would happen if leaders adopted this song and made it a filter through which they speak to their people? What would happen if everyone made this their song? In this episode, you will discover 3 Phrases That Many leaders use that are undermining their leadership and some of them are not even aware of it. You will also discover what better phrases to use. So how do you address poor performance so those team members will up their game to incur positive changes? KGS136 | 5 Secrets To Motivate Your Team Even When You Don't Have A Dime In The Budget by Kingsley Grant
++ NO DIME ONLY TIME +++ Have you ever been in a tight spot where your budget didn't allow you to do some things you know would possibly help your situation? You had the time but just didn't have the dime to make it happen. That's never a good feeling.  I've been there and I know what it feels like to have an idea or a desire, but couldn't because: IT JUST WASN'T IN THE BUDGET. This is frustrating in every way but more so for a leader who sees the need for new machinery, more training, more resources, but cannot get them because of THE BUDGET. Budget restraints can hurt. But what if there was a way to motivate your team without a dime? This is what you'll discover in this episode. How do you pull it off? KGS133 | Automation Expert Shares What Business Leaders Need To Know About Ai and Robotic Process Automation with Arjen van Berkum and Kingsley Grant
++ DON'T BE SCARED +++ Many leaders today aren't discussing what most of their people are wondering or concerned about ... their jobs. Will automation and artificial intelligence aka AI, replace them. Do you know anyone who is concerned about that? Are you? We are hearing that automation will take away people's jobs, which has caused some anxiety for workers and even leaders. I read where 1.8 million jobs will be made obsolete as a result of automation. But what if those stories were not true? What if more jobs will be created as a result of automation? And what if leaders became more knowledgable on what's going on with automation and then spearhead a conversation around what's already happening? In this episode, expert and COO, Arjen van Berkum answers questions like these and more. Who is Arjen van Berkum? BIO: Arjen van Berkum is a columnist, keynote speaker, and motivator, with an eye for innovation and disruption. KGS131 | 7 Hidden Reasons Why People Leave A Bad Boss But Not A Great Leader by Kingsley Grant
++ BAD BOSS HEAR DAY +++ Note: It's not a typo! The phrase "bad hair day" is normally associated with someone having a difficult time getting their hair to cooperate in the way they'd like. So the use of the phrase without the H.A.I.R spelling is intentional.  We could say bad bosses don't hear or listen well. For the most part, they are clueless about what's happening around them. They are too busy "bossing" people around while the mass exodus of their best people is taking place. In essence, they're having a bad H.E.A.R day. In this episode, you'll discover 7 Hidden Reasons why this is so. KGS130 | Discover The Power Of Leading From Within And The Magical Effect It Has On The Workplace with Oleg Lougheed and Kingsley Grant
++ IT'S MAGICAL +++ It's aahmazing what can happen when we truly accept ourselves through and through, flaws and all. But to do so requires that we become honest with ourselves by asking and answering that one question as our guest - Oleg Lougheed - discusses on today's show. When we as leaders become honest with our own struggles, disappointments, and pain, we create a connecting point with the people we lead. They will see us as people who hurt and bleed just as they do. These are some of the topics you'll hear discussed on this show. About our Guest - Oleg Lougheed My start in life was inauspicious. At 9 years old, I relinquished my parents' rights and entered a Russian orphanage. At 12 years old, I decided to be adopted into a new family, in a new country, halfway across the world, to start my new life. KGS127 | The 5 Types Of Leaders Killing Your Business And What To Do About Them by Kingsley Grant
++ KILLING SO SOFTLY +++ There's an oldie but goodie song that was very popular in the 70's sung by the Fugees, entitled: Killing me softly that I loved.  The chorus went like this: "Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song " I know this might be dating me and maybe you if you remembered it. If you don't, no worries because it is really not the point. The phrase "killing me softly" captures what happens within an organization where leaders are the "killers" but it's happening so softly, that it goes unnoticed until it's too late. Do you know leaders like that? Have you ever worked for one like that? Would you agree they are killing the business? As you listen to this episode, see if you can identify any of these 5 leaders who are business "killers." I believe they are the ones that the phrase "people don't leave companies, they leave bosses," are about. Let me know if you agree. KGS123 | Your Dominant Disc Leadership Style Could Be An Asset Or A Liability by Kingsley Grant
++ D-DAY +++ When most people hear the phrase D-Day, they generally think of it being a war-associated phrase. I'm one of those. But to some people, it may mean something else. What does it mean to you? Another way some have thought about it is that it's decision day. I have used the decision-day more often than that of the war-association. However, it could mean a number of other things. In this episode, it means a personality style known as Dominant. It is based upon the universally known DiSC assessment. KGS122 | 7 Behaviors Leaders Need To Avoid At All Cost by Kingsley Grant
++ LIKE THE PLAGUE +++ There are a number of precautions I take to avoid certain things in life such as the spread of germs.  I hate it when I'm in a crowded space and someone lets out a huge sneeze and not cover their mouth. They'll put their head to the side or face down towards the ground as if the ground or space is going to absorb their germs. Uggh! Disgusting! Do you feel that way too? When that happens I try to quickly cover my nostrils. Like my attempt to avoid acquiring someone else's germs, leaders need to make every attempt to avoid these following 7 behaviors. In full transparency, these are taken from an article my friend Brigette Hyacinth posted on her LinkedIn page. Here's the link to the full article if you are interested. In this episode, you'll hear how these behaviors can have an enormous impact, in a negative way, on any organization. These are complete deal breakers: Micromanaging Picking favorites Taking credit for employees' work or successes. KGS119 | Which Of These 5 Reasons For Low Engagement and High Turnover Are You Guilty Of by Kingsley Grant
++ GUILTY AS CHARGED +++ How easy is it to blame or point the finger to others for something that we are guilty of. Do you know anyone who does that? Do you do that? We all are at some point guilty as charged. No one can say I've never done it. When people are leaving the workplace in droves or are less engaged in their work, some leaders are quick to point the finger and not take responsibility for what might be their doing. But it's not all on the leader.  Sometimes the leader is working with the hand they were dealt, which makes it challenging for them to lead effectively. Some of what leads people to quit or be less engaged at work, is found in todays episode. See if you agree or identify in anyway with what you hear. KGS116 | Which of These 5 Primary Causes of Burnout Are You Guilty Of by Kingsley Grant
++ TOO BURNOUT TO KNOW +++ There was a time in my life that I would say I had symptoms of burnout but didn't know it. Actually I didn't want to know. If I did, I more than likely would not have acknowledged it or agreed with the diagnosis. Burnout implied weakness.  As a man, not to mention a Caribbean man at that, I should be able to handle anything. I simply had to "tough it up." Don't feel was my motto to life's situation. Just deal with it. I don't think I'm the only one who thought this way. I wonder how many people today are showing signs of burnout or is experiencing medical issues that seem to come from nowhere? It's not genetics necessarily but it is somewhat unexplainable.  Could it be burnout? Here are some symptoms: Type 2 diabetes, elevated cholesterol, coronary heart diseases, gastrointestinal issues, and even death. In this episode, I talk about the 5 Primary Cause of Burnout as was stated in a research done by Gallup. As a leader, see if you identify with what you're hearing, seeing or feeling in your interaction with your people. KGS115 | Find Out Which Of These 5 Familiar Leadership Styles Is The Least Effective by Kingsley Grant
++ THUMBS DOWN TO THIS ONE +++ Clicking on a thumbs down icon or image, signifies a dislike, disagreement or distaste for something. Often, when I read an article that is meant to help me solve a problem, I'm given the chance to show my reaction to the content. This is done with two options: a thumbs up or a thumbs down. From time to time, I will click on one or the other.  I've noticed that my clicks tend to be on the thumbs down more than the thumbs up. Why is this so? Is it because I don't get the solution I'm looking for? No. It's what I believe most of us do. We are more apt to point out the negative than we do the positive. Am I right? This is also true in the area of leadership. There are some very good leaders who never hear how well they are leading from their team members. However, they'll hear it quickly when they fail to lead as was being expected. There is one type of leadership that I believe will almost always get the thumbs down.  In this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show, you will discover 5 Familiar Styles of Leadership with one of them being the least effective and is rewarded with a thumbs down. Find out which one. Please share this episode with one other person and leave a comment on the platform through which you listen to this show and/or on social media. Thanks so much. KGS114 | 3 Ways To Lead Like A Pro In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence by Kingsley Grant
++ WON'T BE THE SAME +++ Every now and then there seems to be a food war among fast-food companies. Each one is trying to outdo the other by making a similar kind of product and promoting it as better than the other. The one that was first on the market - product #1 - has conditioned people's taste buds as to how that product should taste. Some people will have a hard time accepting product #2 as equal or better than product #1. So it is with Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is product #2 when it comes to being human-like. AI will never take the place of a human being all things being equal. Of course, there will be exceptions for a number of reasons. Because AI is here among us and is getting more and more prevalent in our world, some people are worried that they will be replaced by robots. Will they? Can leaders help their people to be better prepared? In this episode, I share three ways leaders can help their people be better prepared, reduce their anxieties, and embrace this technology. KGS113 | Beyond The Resume Focus On Hiring EQ Over IQ And Here Is Why by Kingsley Grant
+++ BEST WHEN EQ’d +++ Recently I was eating something and it just didn’t taste fresh.  My taste buds recoiled when the taste of the product leaked out from my chewing. Ewwww! My brow knitted, my eyes shut tightly closed for a minute, and my facial muscles contracting. Have you ever had one of those moments? Immediately, I looked at the date label to see what it said. Here’s the very first thing I read: “Best if used by ___”.   I realized that it was beyond the suggested date. Had I eaten the product within the time slot suggested, and within the early stages of the date range, my reaction would be a whole lot different. What does this have to do with hiring people?  A lot. So many people have been hired based on their ability to skillfully and convincingly sell themselves. Some people hire resume writers to create impressive resumes. Others are great writers themselves. But is that enough? Why is it that like the “taste” of an expired product, do some hiring managers experience similar face contortions in realizing they made a mistake? What did they miss? In this episode, I share what hiring managers most likely missed and what they can do about it. KGS112 | 5 Ways Employees Can Help Their Leaders Create A Healthy Working Environment by Kingsley Grant
++ POWER TO THE PEOPLE +++ Before you get the wrong impression, this is not a call to some kind of rebellion. Quite the contrary as you'll read and hear. But there comes a time when we've got to realize we are more powerful than we are. Too often we hear so much victim stories, that we've almost accepted that as the status quo of life. I see and hear about this a lot in the workplace. And there are many reasons why it continues.  Leaders who aren't skilled or insightful enough to intentionally shrink the divide between leadership and employee, end up losing their best talents and having mediocre productivity and performance. Emotelligent or effective leaders create healthy environments to offset these losses but they do so with a partnership approach.. When employees know that their leader is Emotelligent or partnership focused, they will help them create healthy working environment. They - the employees - will: Share your ideas   Be a change agent Speak up when you are hurt  Outline their boundaries  Ask for what you want /need  All of this is good for the overall health of the organization. In this episode, we expand on each of the 5 ways employees help their leaders create a healthy workplace. KGS111 | Remarkable Leaders Leverage Authority and Influence On Behalf Of Their Team with Josh Elledge and Kingsley Grant
++ LEVERAGE YOUR POSITION +++ Andy Stanley, pastor of one of the largest church in America - Northpoint in Atlanta, made this statement about leadership: “You leverage that power for the benefit of other people in the room.”  Many people in leadership positions do quite the opposite. They use their power and position to serve their selfish agenda. Little do they know that this approach will work against them and their organization, in the long run. How often have I heard, or read of people purposefully undermine this kind of leadership? They do just enough to get the job done. This is less than they would if leaders had used their power and position for the good of their people.  So how do leaders change this leadership/employee dance? In this episode, our guest Josh Elledge shares some of what we as leaders can do, which ultimately allows us to succeed where others failed. Who is Josh Elledge? BIO: Josh is a U.S. Navy veteran. He launched UpMyInfluence.com to help turn entrepreneurs into media celebrities increasing their authority, influence, and revenue. He also started SavingsAngel.com which has grossed more than $6 million in sales with less than $500 in advertising. Josh writes a syndicated newspaper column to 1.1 million readers and regularly appears on more than 75 TV stations across the country. All told, Josh has appeared in the media more than 2000 times. KGS110 | Employees Want Their Leaders To Pay Attention To These 5 Domains by Kingsley Grant
++ IT'S ALL ABOUT THE 5 +++ You have 5 fingers, 5 toes, and 5 domains. Domains? Yes.  Here's what the Cambridge dictionary say about the word domain:  it's an area of interest or an area over which a person has control. In my book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed, I mention five domains, which are: Physical Intellectual Emotional Relational Spiritual They all need to be addressed. To do and not the other leads to imbalance. Many people find their lives out of balance when they're not making time or space to address them. Because of this, employees expect their leaders to provide space for them to attend to these domains and not only for them, but also for the leader to be intentional when it comes to helping them achieve this balance. In this episode, you'll hear how I expanded on them and give illustrations and examples of how leaders can address them Please share this episode with one other person and leave a comment on the platform through which you listen to this show and/or on social media. KGS108 | Emotelligence Is The New Intelligence And What Difference Does it Make by Kingsley Grant
++ SMARTY PANTS NO LONGER NEEDED +++ Webster’s dictionary gives this definition of a “smarty pants” - a person who talks and behaves like someone who knows everything. Do you know anyone like that? Be careful what you say or where you point. I’ve been surrounded by people who were given the designation of being a “smarty pants.” Normally, it was done out of jealousy and even envy.  There were a couple students that I went to high school with that I was jealous of simply because they talked and behaved like someone who knows a lot. And for the most part they did … when it came to academics. Oh yes, but not so smart when it came to being social. They were more of a loner. Raise your hand if you had similar experience. OK. I’m not the only one. What I didn’t know is that I had something on them, which would later in life give me an edge on them. Why?  What I had could be developed. It was a skill. There were room for growth and I grew.  What they had was pretty much tapped out. Now I realize that what I had, had a name. I just didn’t know it at the time. It was emotional intelligence, which I have embraced to the point of coining a new word … Emotelligence. What's that? Oh, it is having the ability to recognize, understand and manage one’s emotions and the emotions of others and being better skilled at decision making, relationship management and job performance. That’s where I was smart and that it’s documented that the latter is greater than the former. Tune in to this episode to hear more and to get a deeper and better understanding of Emotelligence. KGS107 | 5 Ways Leaders Can Confront Underperforming Employees Without Shattering Their Self Esteem by Kingsley Grant
++ IT'S NOT ALL THEIR FAULT +++ What would happen if people who are part of a system - family, work, sport, etc, share the blame when something goes wrong even if they were not the main person responsible? It's so easy to quickly point the finger and come down on someone when something goes wrong. And it's amazing how quickly some of these same people take credit when things go right. They are willing to share even when they didn't have a direct input in the outcome. This happens a lot in the workplace. Leaders are quick to take credit for the success of the company or department, but are just as quick to lay the blame for things going "wrong" at the feet of others. Fully blaming someone for not performing up to par is not what Emotelligent leaders do. To find out a better way, listen to this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show. KGS106 | 3 Reasons Leaders Who Lead From Their Heart Wins The Allegiance Of Their Followers and How You Can Too by Kingsley Grant
++ THE HEART WINS ALL THE TIME +++ The notion that leaders can only get the “work” done through brute force, threats, coercion, or with some other power move, has lingered for too long. The results from studies and polls show otherwise.  Gallup has shown where 87% of workers are actively and/or simply disengaged within the workplace. Production is mediocre. It could be better. But how? More power moves? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. What if leaders could move away from leading only with their heads towards their hearts. would the results be better? Studies after studies have shown where it is. And there are 3 Reasons for this phenomena. In this episode, you will hear what those 3 reasons are. KGS105 | Emotelligence or Intelligence What To Look For In The Hiring Process by Kingsley Grant
++ TO HIRE OR NOT TO HIRE +++ How do you hire new employees? Their education and experiences? How were you hired as an employee? Do you remember? Most of my past jobs that I've had with the exception of one, were based on my education and experience. My RESUME. Yay! In some cases, thank God for that. Maybe you can say the same. Those ways of hiring people are over or ought to be. Is it any wonder people do not last long at the job THEY applied for and was hired for. Maybe, just maybe, they were not a good fit. But how do you make sure to hire for "good fit?" In this episode, you'll hear a new and proven approach plus the argument for college education or not.
