KGS119 | Which Of These 5 Reasons For Low Engagement and High Turnover Are You Guilty Of by Kingsley Grant
+++ GUILTY AS CHARGED +++ How easy is it to blame or point the finger to others for something that we are guilty of. Do you know anyone who does that? Do you do that? We all are at some point guilty as charged. No one can say I've never done it. When people are leaving the workplace in droves or are less engaged in their work, some leaders are quick to point the finger and not take responsibility for what might be their doing. But it's not all on the leader.  Sometimes the leader is working with the hand they were dealt, which makes it challenging for them to lead effectively. Some of what leads people to quit or be less engaged at work, is found in todays episode. See if you agree or identify in anyway with what you hear. I'd love to know your thoughts.  Please share this episode with one other person and leave a comment on the platform through which you listen to this show and/or on social media. Thanks so much. KGS118 | How Would You Score On These 4 Leadership Skills And How To Improve Them with Roberta Moore and Kingsley Grant
+++ WINNERS LOVE SCORECARD +++ Who is keeping score? This statement have different meanings.  In relationships, there is someone who is constantly keeping score to make sure their is fairness. It's their way of building up their arsenal for a later time. In a game, it is used to make sure everyone knows the outcome. Winners love to point to the scorecards. Not so much for losers. But scorecard is also used in the area of leadership. Someone is keeping score on how you are performing. The question is, how well are you scoring? Do you know? What if you could find a way to ensure that your score is almost always high, would that interest you? In this episode our guest, Roberta Moore shares with us some key skills that we need to score high on if we are going to succeed in the marketplace. Listen to see how you would score. KGS116 | Which of These 5 Primary Causes of Burnout Are You Guilty Of by Kingsley Grant
+++ TOO BURNOUT TO KNOW +++ There was a time in my life that I would say I had symptoms of burnout but didn't know it. Actually I didn't want to know. If I did, I more than likely would not have acknowledged it or agreed with the diagnosis. Burnout implied weakness.  As a man, not to mention a Caribbean man at that, I should be able to handle anything. I simply had to "tough it up." Don't feel was my motto to life's situation. Just deal with it. I don't think I'm the only one who thought this way. I wonder how many people today are showing signs of burnout or is experiencing medical issues that seem to come from nowhere? It's not genetics necessarily but it is somewhat unexplainable.  Could it be burnout? Here are some symptoms: Type 2 diabetes, elevated cholesterol, coronary heart diseases, gastrointestinal issues, and even death. In this episode, I talk about the 5 Primary Cause of Burnout as was stated in a research done by Gallup. As a leader, see if you identify with what you're hearing, seeing or feeling in your interaction with your people. KGS115 | Find Out Which Of These 5 Familiar Leadership Styles Is The Least Effective by Kingsley Grant
+++ THUMBS DOWN TO THIS ONE +++ Clicking on a thumbs down icon or image, signifies a dislike, disagreement or distaste for something. Often, when I read an article that is meant to help me solve a problem, I'm given the chance to show my reaction to the content. This is done with two options: a thumbs up or a thumbs down. From time to time, I will click on one or the other.  I've noticed that my clicks tend to be on the thumbs down more than the thumbs up. Why is this so? Is it because I don't get the solution I'm looking for? No. It's what I believe most of us do. We are more apt to point out the negative than we do the positive. Am I right? This is also true in the area of leadership. There are some very good leaders who never hear how well they are leading from their team members. However, they'll hear it quickly when they fail to lead as was being expected. There is one type of leadership that I believe will almost always get the thumbs down.  In this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show, you will discover 5 Familiar Styles of Leadership with one of them being the least effective and is rewarded with a thumbs down. Find out which one. Please share this episode with one other person and leave a comment on the platform through which you listen to this show and/or on social media. Thanks so much. KGS114 | 3 Ways To Lead Like A Pro In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence by Kingsley Grant
+++ WON'T BE THE SAME +++ Every now and then there seems to be a food war among fast-food companies. Each one is trying to outdo the other by making a similar kind of product and promoting it as better than the other. The one that was first on the market - product #1 - has conditioned people's taste buds as to how that product should taste. Some people will have a hard time accepting product #2 as equal or better than product #1. So it is with Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is product #2 when it comes to being human-like. AI will never take the place of a human being all things being equal. Of course, there will be exceptions for a number of reasons. Because AI is here among us and is getting more and more prevalent in our world, some people are worried that they will be replaced by robots. Will they? Can leaders help their people to be better prepared? In this episode, I share three ways leaders can help their people be better prepared, reduce their anxieties, and embrace this technology. KGS113 | Beyond The Resume Focus On Hiring EQ Over IQ And Here Is Why by Kingsley Grant
+++ BEST WHEN EQ’d +++ Recently I was eating something and it just didn’t taste fresh.  My taste buds recoiled when the taste of the product leaked out from my chewing. Ewwww! My brow knitted, my eyes shut tightly closed for a minute, and my facial muscles contracting. Have you ever had one of those moments? Immediately, I looked at the date label to see what it said. Here’s the very first thing I read: “Best if used by ___”.   I realized that it was beyond the suggested date. Had I eaten the product within the time slot suggested, and within the early stages of the date range, my reaction would be a whole lot different. What does this have to do with hiring people?  A lot. So many people have been hired based on their ability to skillfully and convincingly sell themselves. Some people hire resume writers to create impressive resumes. Others are great writers themselves. But is that enough? Why is it that like the “taste” of an expired product, do some hiring managers experience similar face contortions in realizing they made a mistake? What did they miss? In this episode, I share what hiring managers most likely missed and what they can do about it. KGS112 | 5 Ways Employees Can Help Their Leaders Create A Healthy Working Environment by Kingsley Grant
+++ POWER TO THE PEOPLE +++ Before you get the wrong impression, this is not a call to some kind of rebellion. Quite the contrary as you'll read and hear. But there comes a time when we've got to realize we are more powerful than we are. Too often we hear so much victim stories, that we've almost accepted that as the status quo of life. I see and hear about this a lot in the workplace. And there are many reasons why it continues.  Leaders who aren't skilled or insightful enough to intentionally shrink the divide between leadership and employee, end up losing their best talents and having mediocre productivity and performance. Emotelligent or effective leaders create healthy environments to offset these losses but they do so with a partnership approach.. When employees know that their leader is Emotelligent or partnership focused, they will help them create healthy working environment. They - the employees - will: Share your ideas   Be a change agent Speak up when you are hurt  Outline their boundaries  Ask for what you want /need  All of this is good for the overall health of the organization. In this episode, we expand on each of the 5 ways employees help their leaders create a healthy workplace. KGS111 | Remarkable Leaders Leverage Authority and Influence On Behalf Of Their Team with Josh Elledge and Kingsley Grant
+++ LEVERAGE YOUR POSITION +++ Andy Stanley, pastor of one of the largest church in America - Northpoint in Atlanta, made this statement about leadership: “You leverage that power for the benefit of other people in the room.”  Many people in leadership positions do quite the opposite. They use their power and position to serve their selfish agenda. Little do they know that this approach will work against them and their organization, in the long run. How often have I heard, or read of people purposefully undermine this kind of leadership? They do just enough to get the job done. This is less than they would if leaders had used their power and position for the good of their people.  So how do leaders change this leadership/employee dance? In this episode, our guest Josh Elledge shares some of what we as leaders can do, which ultimately allows us to succeed where others failed. Who is Josh Elledge? BIO: Josh is a U.S. Navy veteran. He launched UpMyInfluence.com to help turn entrepreneurs into media celebrities increasing their authority, influence, and revenue. He also started SavingsAngel.com which has grossed more than $6 million in sales with less than $500 in advertising. Josh writes a syndicated newspaper column to 1.1 million readers and regularly appears on more than 75 TV stations across the country. All told, Josh has appeared in the media more than 2000 times. KGS110 | Employees Want Their Leaders To Pay Attention To These 5 Domains by Kingsley Grant
+++ IT'S ALL ABOUT THE 5 +++ You have 5 fingers, 5 toes, and 5 domains. Domains? Yes.  Here's what the Cambridge dictionary say about the word domain:  it's an area of interest or an area over which a person has control. In my book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed, I mention five domains, which are: Physical Intellectual Emotional Relational Spiritual They all need to be addressed. To do and not the other leads to imbalance. Many people find their lives out of balance when they're not making time or space to address them. Because of this, employees expect their leaders to provide space for them to attend to these domains and not only for them, but also for the leader to be intentional when it comes to helping them achieve this balance. In this episode, you'll hear how I expanded on them and give illustrations and examples of how leaders can address them Please share this episode with one other person and leave a comment on the platform through which you listen to this show and/or on social media. KGS108 | Emotelligence Is The New Intelligence And What Difference Does it Make by Kingsley Grant
+++ SMARTY PANTS NO LONGER NEEDED +++ Webster’s dictionary gives this definition of a “smarty pants” - a person who talks and behaves like someone who knows everything. Do you know anyone like that? Be careful what you say or where you point. I’ve been surrounded by people who were given the designation of being a “smarty pants.” Normally, it was done out of jealousy and even envy.  There were a couple students that I went to high school with that I was jealous of simply because they talked and behaved like someone who knows a lot. And for the most part they did … when it came to academics. Oh yes, but not so smart when it came to being social. They were more of a loner. Raise your hand if you had similar experience. OK. I’m not the only one. What I didn’t know is that I had something on them, which would later in life give me an edge on them. Why?  What I had could be developed. It was a skill. There were room for growth and I grew.  What they had was pretty much tapped out. Now I realize that what I had, had a name. I just didn’t know it at the time. It was emotional intelligence, which I have embraced to the point of coining a new word … Emotelligence. What's that? Oh, it is having the ability to recognize, understand and manage one’s emotions and the emotions of others and being better skilled at decision making, relationship management and job performance. That’s where I was smart and that it’s documented that the latter is greater than the former. Tune in to this episode to hear more and to get a deeper and better understanding of Emotelligence. KGS107 | 5 Ways Leaders Can Confront Underperforming Employees Without Shattering Their Self Esteem by Kingsley Grant
+++ IT'S NOT ALL THEIR FAULT +++ What would happen if people who are part of a system - family, work, sport, etc, share the blame when something goes wrong even if they were not the main person responsible? It's so easy to quickly point the finger and come down on someone when something goes wrong. And it's amazing how quickly some of these same people take credit when things go right. They are willing to share even when they didn't have a direct input in the outcome. This happens a lot in the workplace. Leaders are quick to take credit for the success of the company or department, but are just as quick to lay the blame for things going "wrong" at the feet of others. Fully blaming someone for not performing up to par is not what Emotelligent leaders do. To find out a better way, listen to this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show. KGS106 | 3 Reasons Leaders Who Lead From Their Heart Wins The Allegiance Of Their Followers and How You Can Too by Kingsley Grant
+++ THE HEART WINS ALL THE TIME +++ The notion that leaders can only get the “work” done through brute force, threats, coercion, or with some other power move, has lingered for too long. The results from studies and polls show otherwise.  Gallup has shown where 87% of workers are actively and/or simply disengaged within the workplace. Production is mediocre. It could be better. But how? More power moves? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. What if leaders could move away from leading only with their heads towards their hearts. would the results be better? Studies after studies have shown where it is. And there are 3 Reasons for this phenomena. In this episode, you will hear what those 3 reasons are. KGS105 | Emotelligence or Intelligence What To Look For In The Hiring Process by Kingsley Grant
+++ TO HIRE OR NOT TO HIRE +++ How do you hire new employees? Their education and experiences? How were you hired as an employee? Do you remember? Most of my past jobs that I've had with the exception of one, were based on my education and experience. My RESUME. Yay! In some cases, thank God for that. Maybe you can say the same. Those ways of hiring people are over or ought to be. Is it any wonder people do not last long at the job THEY applied for and was hired for. Maybe, just maybe, they were not a good fit. But how do you make sure to hire for "good fit?" In this episode, you'll hear a new and proven approach plus the argument for college education or not. KGS104 | The One Most Important Trait Of Strategic Leadership That You Need To Know And Adapt with Cliff Ravenscraft and Kingsley Grant
+++ RIGHT BELIEF, RIGHT BEHAVIOR +++ One of my favorite quotes that I use quite often with some of my clients is this: "Your belief shapes your behavior." Think about any of your behaviors - good or bad - for a second. Look closely at the behavior chosen and you'll find a belief system that fuels it. These beliefs could be totally skewed, yet you act on it. Why? Our guest - Cliff Ravenscraft - will explain in this episode.  One of the things he said, which stuck with me is that your belief is a thought that you have made into a fact. Of course he said it more eloquently than I just did. Who is Cliff Ravenscraft? He is a business mentor, life coach and motivational speaker. He mentors coaches, consultants and thought leaders through the transition from their unfulfilling day job into their own responsible and profitable online business so that they can live the life of their dreams and do the work they feel most called to do in this world. KGS103 | The Top 5 Most Important Leadership Competencies According to World Leaders by Kingsley Grant
+++ IT'S ABOUT COMPETENCY +++ Have you ever encountered someone who surprised you by their level of incompetence? The surprise came because you assumed based upon their title or role, they should know more than they are demonstrating. I've had one or two professors who made me wonder how they made it to the level of being hired as a professor. I leave their class thinking it would have been better if I stayed home and did self-learning. The issue ... competency. According to dictionary dot com, competence means: the ability to do something successfully or efficiently.  That's what was lacking in a couple of my professors. But let's take this one step further; what about leaders? I would dare say, there are numerous leaders who have a title or a role given to them, but lack the competency to perform successfully in their role. In a recent study, many world leaders gave what they thought were important leadership competencies. Here are five of them outlined in this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show. KGS102 | 3 Reasons Smart Leaders Make Mental Healthcare A Priority Within The Workplace by Kingsley Grant
+++ I'M NOT CRAZY +++ Growing up in the Caribbean, namely Jamaica, it was taboo to discuss mental health issues. You dared not mention that you could be suffering from such issues as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations, etc.  To do so, would mean that you need to go to the psych ward because you are "crazy." Only "crazy" people have those issues. That was the prevailing thought at that time. Granted, I'm sure things have changed since then, but that is what I remembered. So you suffer in silence. According to the World Health Organization, one in four adults experiences mental illness each year and an estimated 18% of the US adult population has an anxiety disorder. Wow! Hence when smart leaders aka Emotelligent leaders, make mental healthcare a priority within the workplace, they experience these 3 results. Better performance, engagement, employee retention, and overall well being. A 4 to 1 return on the company's investment when they care for those with mental health Reduction in absenteeism  Listen to the full episode to get the raw data plus one gripping story. KGS101 | 3 DOs and DON'Ts To The Motivation Of People Within The Workplace by Kingsley Grant
+++ BECAUSE YOU WANT TO +++ How many people, probably including you and I, do things simply because we wanted to?  And how many times we don't do things, simply because ... we don't want to.  Am I correct in including you in this? I thought so!  We all are guilty of this at one point or another. The question is, what does it take to motivate and demotivate us? What if I told you that what someone who is meaningful to us say to us or don't say, serves to do one of the two? In this episode, you'll hear me share from an article written by Ron Carucci in a Harvard Business Review article that I read. Don't:  Do drive-by Praise . KGS99 | Skyrocket Your Performance By Mastering These 4 Common Life Experiences With Dr Diane Hamilton and Kingsley Grant
+++ CURIOSITY DIDN'T KILL THIS CAT +++ Adult: "Don't you know that curiosity kills the cat?" Me: [silence] I grew up in Jamaica and this is one of the phrases I heard quite often. It was made by people, namely adults, who didn't want to be asked any questions that made them uneasy. That's my conclusion based upon looking back at the many times I've heard it. Does this sound familiar? Did you experience this? Would you believe that having heard this statement so many times, it almost "killed" me?  It almost "killed" me because I stopped being curious.  I'm glad I found out early enough change course. How about you? In this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show, Dr. Diane Hamilton - an expert on the topic of curiosity - and I, talked about the necessity of curiosity. KGS98 | How To Calm Your Anxious Brain And Be Confident As A Leader with Trisha Taylor and Kingsley Grant
+++ ANXIETY ANYONE +++ Have you ever experienced anxiety in such a way that kept you back from doing something you wanted to do, needed to do or knew you should do? Did you raise your hand? Well, you are not the only one. I've had my share of those moments.  I have used techniques like Mel Robbins' "5 Second Rule" to do things that I felt anxious about.  But what if you knew why you were anxious and how to normalize or calm the anxiety in your brain, would that be helpful? Only if you said yes, should you listen to this episode. It was created with you in mind. KGS97 | Avoid This One Big Leadership Mistake President Trump Tweeted To Congresswomen by Kingsley Grant
+++ AND IT'S NOT ABOUT RACISM +++ Before you rush to judgment and nail me to the cross, take a deep breath and read the heading in context. Did you do that? Now, is your reaction a bit less intense? Maybe you didn't react or overreact at all. Maybe you do not operate with a knee-jerk reaction like so many people do. At times, as leaders, we need to pull back from the noise and the crowd and make conclusions and decisions within a present context. You probably are wondering what does all that mean? I would too until I listened to this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show and did so with an unbiased and impartial mindset. I invite you to do the same and then let's have a conversation. KGS96 | Emotelligence Trumps Artificial Intelligence Everytime and How Leaders Can Prepare Their People by Kingsley Grant
+++ IT'S COMING IT'S HERE +++ For so many people, Monday morning is a dread. Are you one of those people? They wish it was delayed by one more day and it it was, they would again wish it was one more day. Am I right? But ready or not, it's coming or it's here. You and I cannot stop it.  It's like when you are just getting into deep sleep, it's time to get up and you wish it wasn't. But ready or not, that daylight is dawning. So it is with Artificial Intelligence. It's coming and it's here. The question is what do you do now that it's here.  In this episode I did my best to begin the conversation every leader need to have with their people and all workers need to hear. KGS95 | Key Reason 79 Percent Of Employees Gave For Quitting Their Jobs And What To Do About It by Kingsley Grant
+++ I QUIT +++ Have you ever use those words and actually followed through on them? Or have you ever resigned from a job simply because you couldn't take it anymore? How many people today are in jobs they hate but do only one thing ... complain? Hope that's not you. On the other hand how many leaders have had people leave and have no clue as to the REAL reason why they did?  The sad part is that most times, these are their best talents. What if you could hear directly from those who quit as to the reason why they left, would you be open to hearing? In this episode, you're going to hear just that ... why they quit! KGS94 | FINAL SCORE: US Women's Soccer 1 Megan Rapinoe 0 And 5 Leadership Lessons by Kingsley Grant
+++ YOU CAN WIN BUT LOSE +++ Have you ever heard this statement: you can win the battle but lose the war? When I first heard it, it didn’t make sense to me. How can I win a battle but lose the war? Aren’t they the same? I eventually found out that they were not. Did you find that out as well?  What I learned over time is that the battle is the immediate skirmish, just what’s before you, but the war is that which is beyond you — the bigger picture.  Is that how you've come to understand it? This could not be more true than the 2019 World Cup Women’s Soccer Team. Really? How so? Take a listen to this episode and listen to me explode on this theme of winning a war but losing the battle. KGS93 | Which Of These 7 Essential Traits Of Successful Leadership Are You Lacking by Kingsley Grant
+++ HANDS UP +++ In general I do not like to admit to my weaknesses. I know what they are and I know the feelings generated whenever my weaknesses are exposed. One thing I can tell you, it doesn't feel good. Because I know what they are and how I feel when they are exposed, I try my best to work on overcoming, strengthening, or compensating for them to save face. The last thing I want to do is raise my hands, acknowledging that I'm lacking in an area I think I should not be lacking in.  How silly is that. When I went back to college to get my masters degree, wasn't that an acknowledgment that I was lacking in an area and needed to strengthen it with more education? Think about it. So it is in leadership. There might be some things you are lacking that would make you a more effective leader. What could they be? Take a listen to this episode of The Kingsley Grant Show. KGS92 | Unforgettable Leaders Are Known For These 7 Qualities Which Ones Are You Missing by Kingsley Grant
+++ ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER +++ Have you ever heard this phrase, thought about it, or said it: "Walk the talk?" I have experienced all three. Recently I spoke to one of my sisters and she reminded me of a phrase our mom would say to us from time to time. The phrase may not be as impactful in its written form as it is when spoken.  But here is what she would say: "Mouth turn crossway to say anything."  As I mentioned, hearing it in the Jamaican dialect--patois, pronounced "patwah"--is more impactful.  It simply means that people will say anything but not do as they say. Do you know anyone like this? In this episode of the Kingsley Grant Show, you'll hear the 7 Qualities of Unforgettable leaders and draw your own conclusion based on your experience. KGS88 | Top 10 Personal Development Ideas To Retain Your Best Talents by Kingsley Grant
+++ FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH +++ Have you ever heard this phrase before? What does that mean anyway?  The little I've found in a quick Google search, suggests it originated within the horse-racing context. People would bet on a horse they were so sure of winning, they'd attach the phrase, "it came from the horse's mouth."  One thing I do know is that the phrase does carry the idea, that it's first-hand information. As leaders, we need to listen to those we lead as to how to best lead them. Remember, they are half of the equation. You are one half and they are the other.  Making a solo decision as to what they'd like, have not had good results. So, what can you do differently? KGS87 | Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 5 Undeniable Leadership Skills Of Donald Trump Historic Meeting With Kim Jong-un by Kingsley Grant
+++ THE GOOSE AND THE GANDER +++ Sometimes in life we have to decide whether or not we are going to allow our prejudices, biases, political or religious bent, etc keep us from being intellectually honest. What amazes me is how some people will use one set of rules for one person but make an exception, for another. It's like giving one a pass and not the other. This behavior to me is intellectually dishonest.  What's good for the goose must also be good for the gander. This is a saying I grew up hearing, which made sense to me, the older I became. KGS86 | Are You Making Any Of These 10 Emotional Intelligent Mistakes Some Leaders Do by Kingsley Grant
+++ MISS TAKES +++ Take one. Take Two. Take Three. We all make them - miss takes. It's something we attempted to do and failed at. Or DID we fail at it? What if we saw our attempts as Thomas Edison did: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." KGS85 | What Elon Musk Said To His Leaders At Tesla That Also Applies To You by Kingsley Grant
+++ ECCENTRIC ANYONE? +++ People who stand out in our world and are making a difference, tend to have an eccentric personality. This means they are at times tagged with labels such as strange, weird, bizarre, and more.  Do you know anyone like this? Have you ever tagged anyone with one or more of these labels? The late Steve Jobs was given the label of eccentric. Imagine. But look at the results. This is also true of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and of other businesses he has started. But again, look at the results. When I look at these people through the results lens, I am apt to listen to what they have to say. KGS84 | Secret Revealed: 600% ROI From Laser-Like EI Training That You Too Could Have by Kingsley Grant
+++ TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE +++ How often have you thought, said, or heard that? Oh, I've lost count. But I've also found out that some of what I thought was too good to be true, was actually true. Have that ever happened to you? The "kicker" is that some of what I found out to be true, I found out too late and I could truly kick myself. KGS83 | People Don't Leave Companies They Leave Bosses Is Somewhat Inaccurate by Kingsley Grant
+++ HE'S GONE SHE'S GONE +++ We don't know the value of something or someone until we lose it or them? Am I right? Have you ever lost something that was special to you? Can you recall how you felt? Or were you one of those who shrugged it off as "no big deal" or "it's their loss." Some leaders do that very thing until it starts to hurt the bottom line.  What they fail to realize that they are the common denominator to these losses.  However, it's not because they are bad bosses/leaders. It's just that they are ... let's just say something else. The "something else" is what you'll discover in this episode. Beware, you'll have to exercise patience. KGS82 | Why Smart Leaders Alternate Between Being A Thermostat and A Thermometer by Kingsley Grant
+++ HOT OR COLD +++ How do you like your coffee or tea? Cold or hot? What about having it lukewarm where it's neither cold or hot? Your tongue becomes the "thermometer" that gives you that feedback. You must either get the temperature adjusted so you can enjoy a hot brewed coffee or tea.  What you have done is acted in a dual role - the thermostat to get the temperature you want and the thermometer to measure the temperature making sure it's just right. If you're wondering where I'm going with this analogy, you have to listen to this episode to find out where I took it. You might be surprised. +++ IT'S BASIC AND HUMAN +++ There are some simple and basic actions, that when effectively done, can have a huge impact. Would you agree? How often have you heard this statement: "it's the thought that counts?" This follows on the heel of an action that someone took and even though it wasn't a huge act, the recipient made a big deal of it because they were more moved by the fact that they were thought of or remembered. KGS78 The 3 Es Successful Leaders Use With Their People Which One Are You Missing by Kingsley Grant
+++ E-I-E-I-O +++ Take a minute and sound out the letters. What song comes to your mind?  If you said, "Old MacDonald" - the nursery rhyme, you are correct. Even though it has very little to do with the 3 E's of Successful Leadership, it allowed a part of your memory to be jarred by the jingle. Right? I hope it even brought a smile to your face. Did it? I hope so. One of the 3 E's that are mentioned in this episode of the podcast, has to do with you loosening up and not be an old "fogey." KGS76 | Part 3: Leaders Who Master These Emotional Intelligence Skills Will Almost Always Get Celebrity Treatment by Kingsley Grant
+++ IT'S BESTOWED +++ Your initial reaction to this title may reflect a misunderstanding of the idea of receiving celebrity treatment. It may seem like that is the main reason for a leader to make an effort to master these emotional intelligence skills. Far from that. KGS75 | Part 2: Leaders Who Master These Emotional Intelligence Skills Will Almost Always Get Celebrity Treatment by Kingsley Grant
+++ PAY BACK TIME +++ Have you ever done something for someone as a way of paying them back for the way they treated you? I've seen this "dance" take place with both negative and positive outcomes. Prior to my mom's death, the payback she received from all her years of pouring into others was nothing short of celebrity treatment. This was from us her children as well as those whose life she had "touched" in a positive way. When you as a leader master these additional five skills and treat your people the way they want to be treated, you too will receive celebrity-type treatment. In this episode, you will learn of an additional five skills to work on that will lead to your celebrity treatment. +++ MORE SKILLS PLEASE ++++ Have you ever wished you had more of a certain skill set?  I have. This is more so when I'm working on something that required a certain skill set and I find myself lacking. It frustrates me when that happens. At other times, I feel a tinge of sadness that I didn't have the opportunity to go after those skills earlier on in my life. But when I decided to no longer feel sorry for myself, I was able to develop those skills. In this episode, you'll discover 7 of 19 skills that, when mastered, will almost always guarantee an elevation in your status. +++ MADE TO ASK +++ Do you know that the answers you get are based on the questions you ask? I know this seems like a no-brainer. Move to the head of the line. :-)  I've heard that a number  of times and I have even adhered to that mindset at times more so in the past. +++ BEHAVE YOURSELF +++ Have anyone ever said to you, "behave yourself?" When you hear these words now, what comes to your mind? For me, it's like someone reprimanding a child. It's a parent trying to "straighten" their child out. It's getting him or her to do what's right.  But, do you hear a condescending tone in those words? Why is it that some leaders speak to their team members as if they are a little child or in a condescending way? It may surprise you as to their reason. KGS64 Diversity Programs Will Almost Always Fail Without This One Acknowledgment by Kingsley Grant
+++ DIVERSITY CONUNDRUM +++ There is a buzz about diversity that is more prevalent now than ever before. Businesses, organizations, and other entities are offering sensitivity training for their team members, to make sure they become more understanding of other people groups. The problem I find is that when this training is offered or mentioned, it tend to elevate one particular group over another and use diversity as the covering for the advancement of that group. This is problematic on many fronts. Who decides which group gets more attention? Should anyone group get more attention than the other? These are some of the tough issues discussed in this episode. KGS63 Heather Vickery: When "I'm The Boss" No Longer Works And What To Do Instead with Kingsley Grant
+++ BOSS HOGG +++ You might not be old enough to remember the TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard" or just maybe you do. I'm going to assume you do because only you would be able to appreciate this analogy. Sorrell Booke was an American actor who played the role as corrupt politician Jefferson Davis aka "Boss" Hogg." He was a one-of-a-kind "boss." I found him to be hilarious.  He played his role very well. His style of leadership was the in-thing at the time. However, it would not and does not work today. KGS62 Leaders Who Skip This Step Is Doomed To Fail As A leader by Kingsley Grant
+++ LEADERS DOOMSDAY +++ Doomsday? That seems so extreme to put leaders and doomsday together. But is it possible that some leaders are creating their own doomsday? Dictionary dot com gives this definition of the word doomsday: a time or event of crisis or great danger. That is exactly what will happen to leaders who skip this most important leadership step of all. What is that you say? I could tell you what it is here, but you won't appreciate what I have to say, without having a context for it. So, I've made this audio, outlining what the step is and what to do about it. KGS53 Five Familiar Leadership Problems - Which Ones Do You Have by Kingsley Grant
+++ DON'T BE AN OSTRICH +++ Emotelligent leaders are self aware enough to know when they are getting a 100% buy-in from their people and when they are not. Unfortunately some leaders would rather keep their head in the sand and act as if all is well, when the numbers say otherwise. One thing I know and that is, numbers don't lie. KGS51 Do You Recognize The 7 Early Warning Signs Of Team Dysfunction by Kingsley Grant
+++ EARLY WARNING SIGNS +++ Don't you wish you knew what early warning signs to always look in different situation so that you could do something about it? I know that there are somethings outside our control that we are helpless in doing much to stop it, but we can prepare ourselves, if we know. One of the things I coach people to do is create two imaginary buckets and label one, controllable and the other, uncontrollable. I then ask them to separate what they are experiencing and put them in appropriate buckets. Once they do that, they only spend their time and energy on the controllable bucket. In this episode, I share about my heart surgery and early warning signs as it relates to leadership and team dysfunction. The book mentioned, The Emotelligent Leader, is now available on Amazon. KGS50 Emotelligent Leaders Give Helpful Feedback and Not Constructive Criticism by Kingsley Grant
+++ CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM +++ What is constructive about it? I cannot recall a time when someone said they were giving me constructive criticism where it ever felt constructive. Sometimes, in the end, it was helpful but it just didn't feel that way at the beginning. I would immediately brace myself for what was coming. What if we could find a better way of phrasing what we do instead of constructive criticism? In this episode, I share the alternative. KGS49 Simon Sinek Does Not Always Get It Right Like In This One by Kingsley Grant
+++ SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO +++ There are times when we must disagree with even the most articulate, knowledgeable, charismatic expert. Why? They are not God. They are not all-knowing and can make mistakes, which even includes the Pope. I personally don't want everyone to agree with me and neither should you. Simon Sinek is seen as an elite expert in the areas of leadership and social matters. He has a very large fan base, which he has earned and rightly so. I'm one of them. However, he recently made a statement on leadership that I had to take an issue with. You can hear it all in this episode. I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. KGS48 Emotelligent Leaders Erase The Word Subordinate From Their Vocabulary and Why You Should Too by Kingsley Grant
+++ TIME TO ERASE +++ Have you ever accepted something as normal because everyone had? And when you did, was there ever a time you had some questions or doubts but did nothing about it? Did you ever ask yourself why you didn't do or say something until someone else did? I have on quite a few occasions. And quite frankly, it was because I didn't know what else was there or what to do. Having evolved and grown in knowledge, confidence, and courage, I am doing something about it. In this episode, I challenged the accepted norm of leaders seeing their followers, as subordinates. Maybe you'll agree with me or maybe not, but I'm okay with that. Listen to find out more. KGS47 Emotelligent Leaders Are Better At Diversity Leadership by Kingsley Grant
+++ DIVERSITY - THE NEW NORM +++ Diversity leadership is a hot topic in the 21st Century and rightly so. Not all leaders are skilled at diversity leadership. The sad part is that some don't even know that diversity leadership requires certain skills that they may not have. Others are trying to "force" everyone to fit into the mold they've created. And there's a small group of leaders who don't even know they are in the 21st Century.  The need for diversity awareness has always been around. It's just that it wasn't mainstream. Now it is and we have to adjust our leadership style. But how do we do that? In this episode you will discover how to get started and what it is the one most important skill you need to have. KGS46 Fifth Secret of Successful Leadership is Salesmanship by Kingsley Grant
+++ THE FIFTH SECRET +++ When you hear the word salesman, what comes to your mind? Notice I didn't say who, but what. Is it the used car salesman?  It's funny how this is where most people I've asked this question, including myself, goes. Why? Is it because of the stories we hear of from our own experience and maybe, from both? I've had both. How did this all get started? Have you ever wondered?  Regardless, this impression seem to dominate the imagination of many people, which is so unfortunate, because selling is an art that we all are involved in and need to improve on. In this episode, you'll discover the reason I make a case for leadership and salesmanship. What do they have in common? Listen in. +++ MAKE IT SAFE +++ Imagine, you get to design what makes people more satisfied, happier, and confident. Yes, you the leader get to do that. KGS41 Lonely At The Top Is Failed Leadership by Kingsley Grant
+++ IT'S YOUR FAULT +++ When a leader says it is lonely at the top, what they are saying, without realizing it, is that they have failed to lead well.  I'm sure they're not thinking that. It is their way of wanting others to somewhat feel sorry for them and to exercise patience with them; give them some grace. Other leaders have heard the phrase parroted and may have simply adopted without giving it much thought as to what it possible means. In this episode, I dismantled this readily accepted mantra and provided an alternative way of looking at "at the top" leadership. The book, The Emotelligent Leader, is now available on Amazon. KGS40 Make The Boss Happy Is A Bad Strategy For Success by Kingsley Grant
The Boss?  This term sound so positional. It is a mentality that needs to be changed. It creates a picture of a "greater than and less than". This is exactly what the mission of Emotelligence: The Art of Succeeding Where Others Failed, is trying to undo. There are a number of terms associated with leadership that doesn't serve us, others, and/or the organization, well. It actually works against all that we are trying to accomplish. So, what should we do? In this episode, there are some suggestions offered but also how to identify this mindset within the culture of the organization. KGS39 Upgrade Your Emotional Intelligence and Make More Money by Kingsley Grant
How do you upgrade your emotional intelligence? What does it even mean upgrading one's emotional intelligence? I recently went to one of my favorite fast-food joint ... Chic-Fil-A. At the register, the attendant asked me if I wanted to upgrade my order to a large from a medium. I politely said no. A medium will suffice. I did that simply from a "watching my diet" standpoint. It was beneficial for me to say no. However, it isn't beneficial for me to say no to upgrading my EQ.  Why? This is one of the topics I cover in today's episode of the show. You'll discover why saying yes, is the smartest thing you could ever say. I also mentioned that the long-awaited Emotelligent Leader book is now available on Amazon. KGS38 Put Sexy Back In Leadership Without The Sex by Kingsley Grant
Who decides sexy? Have you ever wondered who decides on and on what criteria do they base their decision on "the sexiest woman or man in the world?" This show is NOT about that even though it is mentioned briefly and what my thoughts are on that. But is there such a thing as sexy leadership or was there such a thing as sexy leadership? We cannot put back something if what we are putting back wasn't there in the first place. Right?  O.K. Enough of that confusing talk. How do we put sexy back into leadership without the sex?  It's all included in today's episode. Listen and share your thoughts with me or with someone you invited to listen with you. KGS37 Happy Leader Happy Team by Kingsley Grant
+++ HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY +++ Have you heard this phrase: "Happy wife, happy life?" It's a sticky phrase because if rhymes, wife, and life. But is there more to it? My mind is funny when it comes to these things.  I guess I have somewhat of a rebellious streak in me of sorts, almost always want to look behind things to see where, who, why, how, when, etc. Maybe it's curious instead of rebellious. Anyway, my mind wonders who originated this phrase: was is a man or a woman? Secondly, why? I'll stop there because I talked more about that in this episode of the podcast. And in case you're thinking that's all you'll discover, I can assure you, there's a whole lot more as I make the case for Happy Leader, Happy Team. KGS36 Fourth Secret of Successful Leadership Is Mentorship Which Insecure Leaders Fail To Do by Kingsley Grant
Mentorship. Hmm. Is that something I do or is it something that I need to have someone do for me - mentor me? This concept has been around for a long time even before it was given this label. If we look back over our lives, we probably were being mentored and have mentored others and didn't realize that we were doing so. On the other hand, we've heard stories of or have had an experience where mentoring didn't end up having a positive outcome. In this episode, you'll hear both sides of mentoring especially when insecurity become part of the equation. KGS28 The Greatest Leader Ever and What We Can Learn with Kingsley Grant [Special Edition]
+++ UNDISPUTED +++ "I am the greatest!" says the late Muhammad Ali is formerly known as Cassius Clay. KGS26 Fake News Fake Leaders Have This In Common with Kingsley Grant
The term Fake News has become mainstream within the last few years. It's hard to know what or who to believe when it comes to the media. Unfortunately, everyone gets lumped together. KGS22 How To Be An Attractive Leader Without A Facelift with Kingsley Grant
The word attractive and leader may be misleading to some. It may suggest that I'm talking about physique. Quite the contrary. That would be beyond my paygrade.  However, the term is used in different ways. Many people, including myself, have a leader or leaders in mind, that we would want to be like. There's something about them that draws us to them. That is what is meant by the term attractive leader. In this episode, you'll discover what truly makes a leader attractive and how you can become one as well. Please remember to leave a review and ratings, and any other comment on the platform through which you listen. It helps with expansion. I need your help in that area. And remember, you are one skill away ...

KGS21 The Term Strong Leader Could Be Misleading with Kingsley Grant
What does it mean to say someone is a strong leader? Do people understand what is being meant? One person in one part of the world may have one definition while someone in another part of the world may have another. Who is right?  There is not a universal definition for the term. It is rather a relative term.  The unfortunate thing is that what is passed off as being a strong leader could be very misleading to say the least. Many atrocities are taking place under that very term and it gives place to reproducing after its kind, which could be harmful to many. In this episode, you'll be provoked to reconsider and find a better way to describe leadership. Please share this episode if you find it entertaining, educational, and informative and remember, you are one skill away ...

KGS19 Leaders Who Smile Are More Likely To Succeed with Kingsley Grant
Do you smile often? What do people say when you do?  Even though people might not say what they're thinking or feeling when they see you smile, research shows that it has an Effect on them.  A recent study  is published in the journal Psychological Bulletin showed that people who smile tend to be happier. When leaders adapt smile as one of their "tools of the trade," they will get more positive results from team members. In my new book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed, I point out this very idea even before reading this study. I make the case for leaders to smile more because it makes them more approachable and warm. These outcomes lead to more harmony, joy, and productivity. Happy people make people happy. Please share this episode and remember, you are ONE SKILL away ...

KGS18 Leadership Without Emotional Intelligence Is Like Diet Without Exercise with Kingsley Grant
Have you ever tried dieting without exercising or exercising without a modified diet? How did that work out for you? On the other hand, have you done both and did you notice a difference? I have.  When I combined a modified diet alongside exercising, I saw the difference. The results were noticeable by those who knew me. I basked in the compliments I received. I must confess that I've not been as disciplined as I was when I lost the weight and was better toned. I have slacked off and noticed the difference. Thankfully, I"m still ahead in the gain compartment. In this episode, you will discover why leadership without emotional intelligence is mediocre at best and how it relates very much to diet and exercise. Please share this episode with at least one other person and leave a review and a comment about your thoughts about the show. It would be very much appreciated.

KGS17 Key to Better Job Performance Relationship Management and Decision Making with Kingsley Grant
Most leaders have this one thing in common: they want results that lead to better job performance, better relationships, and better decision making across the board.  They want to see it happening among leaders and team-members and team-members and team-members. If they are able to get this trifecta to take place, they know this leads to higher productivity and the bottom-line, profitability. Many have tried to get this outcome through various media but have been unable to do so. In this episode, you'll discover the key to making this a reality. Please share this with at least one other person and remember, you are one SKILL away ....

KGS16: Leaders and Personal Development with Kingsley Grant
Personal Development, what is it? Is it really necessary for leaders to concern themselves with it? Does it make a difference whether they do or not? It all depends on who you ask. If you ask someone who is mediocre and simply average in their leadership position, you'll more than likely hear "it is not necessary. It's just one more way for someone trying to get you to spend money on some stupid program. I've been leading forever, and look at me." Yes, look at them. See the results they are having. What kind of people do they have around them ... the elites or those who are as average as them. Next, look at the overall productivity level of the organization. I could go on. Suffice it to say, I would suggest seeking out the opinion of another leader; one who is crushing it and whose people cannot say enough good things about them. Listen to them. In this episode, you'll hear the argument as to why every leader needs to develop him or herself in two main areas. Please share this episode with one other person and leave a review and or comment on this show. Much appreciated.

KGS15: Leadership Do Over Is Possible with Kingsley Grant
In life we are often told that there are things that do not give us a chance to have a do-over. That is true when it comes to certain things like parenting a child who is now an adult, there is no do-over as far as going back and fixing past parenting failures. Maybe a relationship failure is another. And still another could be a financial mistake. These are just some examples of things that do not give you a chance to have a do-over. However, when it comes to leadership, you have a chance for a do-over. In this episode, you'll discover how to do a leadership do-over. While you are at it, share this episode with others and REMEMBER, YOU ARE ONE SKILL AWAY ....

KGS13 #1 Sure-Fire Way To Succeed Where Others Failed
This idea that you can succeed where others failed, may sound preposterous. It might sound like a fairytale, unbelievable, unattainable, it's for others, but not for you. Probably upon hearing this idea, you immediately think of those who have failed in areas that you have aspirations towards and you begin to compare yourself with them. It doesn't add up. In this episode, you will discover the #1 sure-fire way to give yourself a fighting chance to experience success where others failed. Most of what I shared can be found in my newest book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed. Remember, you are one skill away from your best hope.

KGS12 Transformational Leadership Increases Productivity and Profitability with Kingsley Grant
Transformational leaders have an advantage over other types of leaders. They do so simply by their ability to educate, inform, and inspire. Not every leader is able to do this. Research bears this out. Researchers Ken W. Perry & Alan Bryman (2006) had this to say about transformational leaders: “The transforming leader raises the aspirations of his or her followers such that the leader’s and the follower’s aspirations are fused.”  Other researchers such as Dasborough and Ashkanasy (2002) also had this to say: Transformational leaders “feel strongly affiliated with the leader and have an unquestionable willingness to obey their leader’s instructions.” In this episode I shared how to become a transformational leader and thereby see an increase in productivity and profitability.  And remember, you are one skill away from becoming the leader everyone loves and wants to follow.

KG11 Emotelligent Leaders Show Emotions with Kingsley Grant
Some leaders think that the word emotions and leadership should not be written in the same sentence. It is distasteful to them. Many of these leaders associate weakness with emotions. It also makes them vulnerable and open to be taken advantage of. At least that is what they think. However, nothing could be farther from the truth.  Leaders show emotions everyday but many times in the wrong way or in a negative way. They'll get angry at their staff/team, berate people, "lose it" by throwing a temper tantrum, but not think that is showing emotions. In my new book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed, I took the time to elaborate on this topic. Make sure you get a copy once it is released, which should be within a couple of weeks or less. Be on the lookout for the announcement. I will make it here on the show as well. KG10 Show Vulnerability Without Losing Respect with Kingsley Grant
When you hear the word vulnerable, what comes to your mind? Here’s what most people think when they hear the word vulnerability (.See if any of this applies to you): * weak * risky * lose respect The one that is most often referenced, is the risk. Yes, it can be risky, but when you think of the benefits it’s worth it. Inspirational Poem: William Arthur Ward on “Risk” To laugh is to risk appearing a fool, To weep is to risk appearing sentimental To reach out to another is to risk involvement, To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss To love is to risk not being loved in return, To hope is to risk despair, To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom. Only a person who risks is free. The pessimist complains about the wind; The optimist expects it to change; And the realist adjusts the sails. ~William Arthur Ward Benefits: 1. You are seen as human with experiences that makes you relatable - fallible 2. Invites reciprocity in sharing which leads to deeper relationship 3. Allows for more of an empathetic culture  Caution: 1. Appropriate sharing 2. Not self-serving 3. Timing Remember, you are 1 Skill Away From .... It Is Your Mood Dude with Kingsley Grant
Many times leaders do not realize that their mood sets the stage for performance and that productivity is tied directly to the how they manage it.  In this episode I talk about what happens when leaders show up to lead their teams with a "foul" attitude or mood.  As a person from the rural area in Jamaica, I am used to seeing roaches scurrying to corners whenever the light disrupt the darkness. This is what team-members do when a leader shows up in a "foul" mood. In my new to be released book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed, I discuss how leaders can manage their emotions and those of the team members to get better results.

KG04 Influential Leaders Different Outcomes and Why with Kingsley Grant
How is that some leaders would earn the title of being influential but the outcomes of their leadership is one to be desired whereas the other leader, is everything one would want to emulate? In this episode I discuss the tales of two leaders: Martin Luther King Jr. and Jim Jones. The two leaders would be considered influential in their own ways, yet the outcome from their leadership, even though having profound impact in different ways, are outcomes that are looked upon in different ways. What is it about them?  That's what you'll discover as you listen to this episode. Please encourage others to listen and please share. Leave your comments on the show and show me some love here by "clapping" using the inbuilt mechanism to do so. Thanks in advance.

10 Required Pledges All Leaders Need To Make
Why do Sororities and Fraternities have their members sign pledges? Why do they have standardize pledges?   Having not much knowledge of either, I'm going to guess that it's to make things uniform and make sure everyone abide by the same principles. If you know otherwise, I'm open to learn. If my assumption is correct and even if it's not, why is it that there is not a standardized "pledge" that leaders sign prior to becoming "members" of the leadership league? My mission of this and other episodes, is to disrupt leadership as we know it. That is one of the reasons I've wrote my soon to be released new book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed. In this book, I discuss a number of these issues and at the end of the book, I recommend that leaders take a pledge to enter the league of Elite Leadership. In this episode, I go through all ten of them in a summarized way. Let me know your thoughts of agreement or disagreement and if you think I should have included another pledge. Also, if you want to get a FREE copy of my new book for FREE, simply let me know. Follow me on social media, anyone that you use a lot. My ID on all of them is kingsleygrant.

Are You Quantified To Lead with Kingsley Grant
Ask almost every leader whether or not they are qualified to lead and the answer will be "of course!" It will almost always be in a defensive manner. I get it why they would almost feel offended if asked. But what about quantified? This would immediately have them think, like you might be thinking, that there was a mistake made in using the word quantified, thinking it should be qualified. In this episode I made the case for quantified leadership rather than qualified leadership. I reference my soon to be released book: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed because I discuss a whole lot more there. Outdated Leadership is Malpractice Leadership
Practicing leadership in the 21st Century using 20th Century approaches is doomed to fail. Is it any wonder many leaders are failing at leading the people they were entrusted to lead or that those people, even very talented ones, are jumping ship? In this episode I share why this happens and what needs to change.  Most of what I share are ideas, concepts, and principles found in my soon to be released new book entitled: The Emotelligent Leader - Succeed Where Others Failed. You can get a FREE copy when it is released simply by letting me know.  Follow me on one of my social media channels at kingsleygrant and you'll be notified there when the book becomes available.
