Females on the Mic - The Power of Giving Voice

To celebrate Black History Month, we are releasing an audio version of a Zoom video interview with Dr. Yanela G. McLeod conducted by Raymond Elman, Inspicio Arts, on November 1st, 2020.  

Dr. YANELA G. MCLEOD, Ph.D., is director of Communications and Alumni Relations for the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities—where she also teaches history as an adjunct professor.

Her research specialty is the history of the Black Press, particularly in Florida, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of history and journalism. Author of The Miami Times and the Fight for Equality: Race, Sport, and the Black Press, 1948- 1958, McLeod strives to elevate social consciousness and improve race relations by sharing important stories related to the African-American experience.

This second episode is filled with thought-provoking interviews held at eMerge Americas convention last April 2022 in Miami Beach. Fems in Tech, a group of female students led by the Assistant Director | Research Associate and the Program Coordinator for the Kopenhaver Center, set the intention to interview women and get their voices heard on topics such as technology, women as leaders, techquity, and pay equality. Join the conversation and listen to what powerhouse leaders such as Miami-Dade Mayor Daniela Lavine Cava and FIU Interim Provost Dr. Elizabeth Bejar have to say.

Our first workshop in this series featured two highly distinguished female leaders discussing the “Future of the Information Age.” Marsheila Hayes, VP of Diversity and Inclusion at FOX Corporation, and Amalie Nash, SVP Local News, and Audience Development at  USA TODAY Network.
