Most recently, Michael founded and launched Kreatures of Habit, an in-your-face lifestyle and wellness brand, reimagining how you establish healthy habits in your life. He left The NoMad in 2017 to pursue his first solo project, an ambitious pair of restaurants in the landmark Art Deco building at 70 Pine Street in New York’s Financial District. James opened Crown Shy, the first of those restaurants, in March 2019. Just six months after opening, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. After 18 months of pandemic-related delays, the pair opened SAGA – a fine-dining restaurant in the tiered spire of the building–in August of 2021. In October 2022, SAGA was awarded two Michelin stars. James is an active supporter of a number of charities working to eradicate childhood hunger in New York City including No Kid Hungry and ReThink Food, for which he sits on the Chef’s Council. James has twice co-chaired the annual Chef’s Benefit dinner for Cookies for Kids Cancer, a nationally-recognized organization that provides funding for pediatric cancer research. And he’s a mentor for Ment’Or organization devoted to inspiring culinary excellence in young professionals and preserving the traditions and quality of cuisine in America. Sal Di Stefano: Steps For Sculpting Your Ideal Body
Sal Di Stefano: Steps For Sculpting Your Ideal Body
Sal Di Stefano is a personal trainer, co-founder of Mind Pump Media, and co-host of Mind Pump, an online radio show/podcast that is dedicated to providing truthful fitness and health information. Sal picked up his first weight at the age of 14. A painfully skinny teenager, he felt insecure about his physique and his lack of muscle and strength. Fitness was a way for him to apply hard work and effort towards changing and re-inventing himself. A natural intellect, Sal devoured every fitness, physiology and nutrition publication he could get his hands on. His appetite for knowledge is voracious and he used his passion for learning to maximize his own body’s potential. Four years later, Sal walked into his local 24 Hour Fitness gym and applied to be a personal trainer. He quickly became a top performer and, at the age of 19 was promoted to the position of general manager with as many as 40 employees working under him. During this period of time, Sal learned to master skills of sales, marketing and communication and his gyms broke records in sales and production. At the age of 22, Sal became an entrepreneur. He opened a wellness and personal trainer facility that offered one on one training, massage therapy, nutritional counseling, hormone testing and acupuncture. At the age of 28 Sals health took a bad turn. The years of training his own personal body with excessive amounts of intensity in the pursuit of more muscle combined with the abuse of supplements caused his body to rebel. He lost 15lbs of muscle and at one point believed he may have an autoimmune disorder. This forced Sal to change his personal approach to fitness. He made health a priority and he visited his insecurities that caused him to abuse his body. It took him a full year of study and learning to transform yet again. Sal learned about gut health, hormone health and how to prioritize health over appearance. He healed his body and changed how he communicates fitness and health and was re-invigorated with a new sense of purpose. Although this was a challenging time for him, it is literally what formed his view on health and how he communicates it to this day. At 33 years old Sal met Doug Egge who became his client. They formed a close friendship and together they created the first Muscular Adaptation Programming System (MAPS) program. Sal was the designer of the workout plan and Doug created the marketing material behind it. Their goal was to shatter the failed muscle building workout ideas that Sal had personally witnessed as entirely ineffective. They knew that MAPS programming would be vastly superior. Their challenge was how to bring this to the masses. 2 years later Sal met Adam and Justin and together with Doug they started Mind Pump. The goal with Mind Pump was simple...bring quality fitness and health information to the masses with integrity and honesty. Sal wanted to shift the direction of the fitness industry from an aesthetic insecurity based industry to a self love and self care health industry. He knew this could be accomplished with education through entertainment. In this episode, Michael and Sal discuss the percentage that nutrition matters in sculpting your ideal body, how to develop a faster metabolism, and why there’s no such thing as motivation (plus, the solution for that). Katie Kaps & Lauren Berlingeri: Feeling Tired All Day?
Katie and Lauren are the co-founders of HigherDOSE. Katie is a former investor and fitness enthusiast and her co-founder, Lauren, is a trained nutritionist and health coach. After meeting through a mutual friend, they instantly bonded over their shared passion for wellness and recognition of the untapped wellness properties of infrared that encompassed everything from detox and weight loss to workout recovery and relaxation. Together, they launched the first HigherDOSE spa in NYC in 2016 and they have experienced meteoric growth since day one — over the last 12 months the company has generated $15m in revenue, with minimal investment since launch and a pandemic to boot — a testament to their bootstrapping abilities. Embodying the definition of a lean startup, Katie and Lauren created all of HigherDOSE’s initial branding themselves (even acting as models in their first campaigns) and mastered how to quickly pivot their strategies, creating an 8-figure startup with only 4 full time employees. They began with physical infrared sauna locations that offered a never-before-seen infrared experience, creating a devoted customer base that paved the way for their at-home sauna systems to succeed. Now with 5 at-home SKUs, multiple sellouts of the blanket and mat, and upcoming expansion plans under their belt, the future of infrared — and HigherDOSE — is shining bright. In this episode, we chat about the benefits of an infrared sauna, how to meditate (even if you don’t like meditation), and the number one reason why you might feel tired all day. Patricia's journey to founding Volition started back in the late 2000s, where she was the only female investor at a big venture capital fund. She was able to meet and fund some amazing entrepreneurs but was faced with the sad reality that a lot of incredible female founders weren't getting funded. At Volition, these entrepreneurs don't pitch to board rooms full of male investors, but the actual customers. Patricia has a MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Harvard College.
