Episode 19: Brave Leaders: Finding Your Why

Episode 12: Live Big- A Legacy Worth Leaving

Episode 12: Live Big- A Legacy Worth Leaving

When you think of the word “Legacy” what do you think of? A quick Google search defines the word as a noun -- “an amount of money or property left to someone in a will.”  But that seems such a shallow view of something we want to leave behind. Is money or property all that defines us? Does it capture the true nature of our hearts, dreams, passions, and all that we were created to bring to this world? Today I would like to welcome my special guest,  lifestyle business coach, entrepreneur, and inspirer, Steven Norrell. Steven has established himself as a motivator, dreamer, inspirer, and works each day to push people to LIVE BIG through his work and find their own way to leave a legacy that truly exemplifies their heart and life’s work for the world.

Episode 13: A Mother's Devotion

Episode 13: A Mother's Devotion

From the beginning of life, our mothers are the foundation of connection for us. It starts long before we take our first breaths, or wail our first cry. We are connected for 9 long months in ways that scientists are still learning about in terms of the senses of babies in utero. And when we grow and mature that connection deepens and matures. Often times as mom’s our moms take on a new role of helpmate once their grandchildren are born. And when we have those moms who are there in a moment’s notice, it can be a cruel reality when they are gone. It can become unbearable and scary to think of mothering without our mothers.  I have known today's guest, Morgan, long before she was a mom. And I have had the opportunity to see her grow, mature, and navigate mothering. Her story today speaks to those listeners who are mothering in a state of grief and loss. For those listeners who have lost a parent this topic may be a sensitive one, but we hope that Morgan’s story will be one of hope and a mother’s steadfast love and devotion.

Episode 11: Parenting Highly Sensitive Kids

Episode 11: Parenting Highly Sensitive Kids

Before we become parents there is so much advice from so many different angles. We literally feel like we need ALL THE THINGS for when we bring this tiny human home. However, once home all bets are off as to how this human is going to navigate their environment. For many parents, things go smoothly and they feel like, yes, this is like everyone said it would be. There is Bliss.

However, for other parents ‘life at home’ is nothing like what other people said. The advice is not working. The baby or toddler is not reacting like other children their age. This can often lead to parents feeling like they are missing something or doing something wrong.

In this episode we are diving deep into an area of parenting that really tests the limits, grace, and energy of many parents who parent “Highly Sensitive Kids.”

Today, my dear friend Katty Sievers will be sharing about her journey with her children, the pitfalls she found herself navigating,  the resources that she found life changing for her family.

Episode 10: The Marriage that Works

Marriage is hard work! I truly believe that is why old ladies cry at weddings! They see the beauty, brilliance, and boundless love on wedding days but they also know how much work is going to be needed into keeping that 'garden' of marriage weed free, pest free, and producing a bountiful harvest. Is it doable? Absolutely! Is it hard work? You bet every ounce of those vows you said on Day 1.  In this episode, I am joined by my friend, Lucille Bolton Shannon, as she talks about her journey in marriage over the last 38 years and how a new season has begun with an upcoming Masterclass called "The Marriage That Works".  For those of us in the trenches it is always refreshing to hear of others who can help us navigate paths they have already tred. Lucille is a wonderful guide for just that!

Episode 9: Music as Medicine

Episode 9: Music as Medicine

Music is something that transcends all geographical borders, historical timelines, and socioeconomic classes. It can be the simplest of forms with the humming of notes by one person or so complex that it takes hundreds of instruments to bring it to life. We know that music is often the soundtrack of our lives. When we are happy we blast tunes that echo that feeling and when we are sad, the lyrics we are drawn to often resonate so deeply with our intimate thoughts we feel the writer must have some super power of being able to literally look into our souls. They capture on paper and in sound what our bodies can’t find the words or language to express. But what if music did even more than that? What if it was medicine for our physical bodies and our minds? What if it could help us deal with the stress and trauma we have been carrying in our Proverbial backpacks? Join me as I talk to Tim Ringgold, a professional music therapist, author, musician, and dynamic motivational speaker as he shares his story about how music helped him after tragic losses and how he is using this 'musical medicine' to help others today.

Episode 8: Forgive to Live

Episode 8: Forgive to Live

In life, we have two choices when we are confronted with challenging situations. We either remain in the current situations or we decide to separate ourselves from the situations and move forward. Some of these situations are simple like having a job we dislike or is unfulfilling. Or living in a town that doesn’t really fill our heart and inspire us. However, others find themselves in more drastic circumstances like marriages that are either emotionally or physically abusive. When individuals find themselves in these situations many remain in those situations because they don’t feel they have a choice, support to move forward, or the resources to rely on when familial support is lacking.

Others however, choose to remove themselves from those situations knowing that for their emotional health and physical safety it is not an option to remain. This step, although a positive one in the long run, is extremely frightening and takes an immense amount of bravery and grit.

Today’s topic will focus on the healing and moving forward after experiencing domestic violence and how we can all have a heart of compassion and empathy when we find ourselves supporting those we love or those who cross our paths who have found themselves dealing with the fall out of domestic violence.

Today, I welcome my friend Kim, as she shares her journey through healing and moving forward after finding herself in such a situation as well as how she has decided to live her life in the service of others who find themselves in situations that are similar to her own history.

Episode 7: The Hills and Valleys

Episode 7: The Hills and Valleys

We all have those hills and valleys in life. Those times that we can see clearly and far, and the sweeping vistas take our breath away with their beauty, Our souls are filled and we feel full. Then there are other times that we have found ourselves buried under boulders we didn’t see coming and the valleys are so deep and so dark that there doesn’t seem to be a way out. Today’s guest, Christi Sheroky, will share her journey that started right after her wedding day, to how she has navigated those difficult struggles, heartbreaking losses, and finding how to find joy again in the helping of others. For some this topic will rekindle emotions of loss and sadness. We hope that by having Christi share her journey today, you will find a sense of connection to others who have traveled similar roads. Healing comes for people in many different ways, however, authentic connection and feeling you are a part of a community who understands is critical. We hope that today we can be a small part of that healing for our listeners.

Episode 6: Life After Loss

Episode 6: Life After Loss

One truth that we all can agree on is that life is filled with both joy and loss. Regardless of where we live, who we are, or what we do our lives are a constant swirling of both joy and loss. When the seasons of our lives change, and sometimes abruptly, the support of friends, professionals, and loved ones is paramount to healing. However, often times friends and loved ones do not always know how to support someone in a healthy manner. In Episode 6: Life After Loss I am honored to share the space with my dear friend, Sarah, as she shares her heart about the loss of her sweet daughter, Ellie. In this episode Sarah shares openly how the loss affected her family and marriage, as well as honest talk about the pressures people feel in the season of grieving.  She also discusses what was helpful in the form of support from others, how to take steps to grieve in a healthy way, and most importantly the honoring of a loved one in a way that brings peace and meaning to your family.  Note: Due to the sensitive topic and adult language listener discretion is advised.

The Communication Barrier

The Communication Barrier

Being heard and understood is a foundational part of being human. However, oftentimes the way we communicate is vastly different from those people in our families and workplace. These differences in communication cause awkward tense situations and hurt feelings when those barriers fly up and our ability to communicate effectively shuts down.  In this episode of "All the Things with Kristen Schindler," we will analyze the four different communication styles of Analytical, Driver, Amiable, and Expressive. We will discuss both the positives aspects and pitfalls of these types of communication styles and how they can help us and how we can use those differences to effectively communicate with those we come in contact with each day.

The Validation Voice

The Validation Voice

Often times we have something placed on our hearts that seems to be in line with our desires and calling. However, before we know it our excitement can be crowded out by self-doubt and words of others. Sometimes the words from others are exactly what we need to help us persevere and push through the unknowns. They are supportive, life-giving, and fill us with hope. However, other times those voices cause us to stop, wonder, and sometimes question whether our plan is really the right one. In today's episode, I welcome my best friend, Elisa, as she shares with us about a big decision she and her family made that was filled with unknows and self-doubt. She is also going to share with us the path she took and how it helped her to navigate that time with grace and understanding for her family and the others involved in the change.

The Peer Pressure Trap

The Peer Pressure Trap

Remember those feelings as a child when you just wanted to do what your friends were doing? It wasn't because they were doing monumental things or even things that you would choose on your own. Honestly the mere fact they were simply doing something you weren't was enough to make it seem elusive and downright NEEDED! Without it, we might be missing out! Guess what? The fact of the matter is that even as adults we sometimes find ourselves back in our childlike shoes when it comes to living "our" best life versus the one that the media tries to feed us. Not to mention how the 'parental peer pressure trap' can ensnare us and affect our parenting because we don't want OUR kid to miss out. Join us as I welcome my dear friend, Julia, as we delve into The Peer Pressure Trap, how to navigate it, how to see it for what it really is, and how to get out on the other side with grace and honesty.
