Things are heating up in John 18. Jesus is arrested, a sword fight tries to break out, and the Jewish people turn their back on their own king. The cross is near and we can tangibly start to feel it as we head further into the Easter story. Jesus prophesies returning to His father and leaving behind the Spirit. He tells of His own death, the scattering of the disciples and boldly proclaims a statement we cling to often even as modern day believers. Like the disciples, we need comfort assurance. Listen and receive Jesus’ words both for them and us as He offers them peace and His presence as they get up from the table and step toward Calvary.
