Utah Warriors head coach Shawn Pittman on his interim season as manager and rugby's growth in Utah

Utah Warriors head coach Shawn Pittman on his interim season as manager and rugby's growth in Utah

Former Utah Warriors assistant coach Shawn Pittman was thrown into the deep end in January, tasked with taking over as interim manager of Utah's professional rugby franchise following the sudden resignation of Australian Wallabies legend Chris Latham. No experience, no training, no warning.

Sink or swim in his first full-time head coaching job in Major League Rugby.

Pittman -- and the Warriors -- chose to swim, surging into the Top 4 of the 12-team league and qualifying for Utah's first playoff berth since the league's inaugural season of 2018. Now the full-time manager rather than a caretaker, Pittman reflected on the past nine months in charge, and what he wants of the club moving forward in this exclusive conversation with KSL.com.

The East High grad talks through his mission experience, how he stayed in shape while tracting homes, and when he might return to the defensive backfield at BYU.
